Random GPS loss - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am running a rooted Xperia z2 international version with 5.1.1 and a locked bootloader (used the downgrade method and all the files I flashed were found in that thread). Virtually everything works fine, except that the GPS intermittently loses signal, which has been causing a lot of issues.
It started in maps, so I reinstalled maps. Still there. I also tried it in the Garmin navigation that was included, but it still lost signal. I then used fastergps to rewrite my GPS configuration file, but it still does it. At this point, I'm unsure how to fix this. I heard that I might have to reflash 5.1.1, but that would be a huge pain, so I thought to post here and see if anyone has any ideas.
Thank you.

Update: I have narrowed down the issue. It appears that when aGPS is not on, my phone can view the GPS satellites, but cannot lock on to them. I have read some rumblings that this is related to the firmware, so I am going to try and downgrade to 5.0.2 to fix these issues. I will keep this thread updated as things develop, so that this can exist in case anyone else has this issue.

2nd update: rather than downgrade, I tried loading the. 232 firmware (I had the. 546 firmware before), but it appears that does nothing. I'm in he very of uprooting and calling in the warranty. Before I do, does anyone have a suggestion on something that could fix this?

i've noticed that my phone randomly disconnects gps satellites too. After half an hour of using it with location on, the gps signal goes down, so i need to deactivate and reactivate the location to reconnect to satellites. pretty disturbing when tracking my routes. Hope Android 6 will not have this bug

So, as an update. Over a month goes by while I am sending my device back to the place I purchased it from. They supposedly fixed it and shipped it back, but when i got it today...still no GPS. I know I'm not the only one that has had these issues: (https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Problems-with-GPS-on-Z2/td-p/702261, https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...ter-lollipop-update-in-Z3-compact/td-p/967188), but those threads didn't lead to any answers that have worked. I have tried everything, so I am just seeing if anyone has had this issue, has had any success with fixing this GPS fix issue, or can do anything to help me. Thanks.

I rarely use gps but I've never experienced issues with it, however last time I had also some problems.
While traveling in Germany the phone lost it's gps signal every few minutes for couple of seconds. However after I've passed the border with poland the gps was working fine.
So maybe it really has to do sth with the carrier or even country ☺ (I had no agps turned on).

GPS suddenly stopped working

a month ago i bought a brand new Sprint TP. And i was amazed by its GPS, it's the fastest mobile phone GPS i ever met. it only need 5 second to lock satellite. but yesterday suddenly it stopped working. with identical rom and identical radio. it's so weird. i try it to flash back to factory default and yet it still didn't worked. try also to update the radio but no hope. Do anyone have a solution for these weird problem?
are you using the stock rom & radio? you say you tried flashing radios but to no avail, which part failed? you were able to flash a new radio but it didn't solve the problem or you weren't able to flash a new radio period? we need a lot more information to help you

If you have already reflashed the rom, it could be that you have a damaged unit in your hands. If I were you, I would relock it and run to a Sprint store asking for a replacement. Just my two cents...
Good luck!
[SOLVED] here are the solution:
hello friends, recently after i upgrade my Sprint TP ROM into several different type of ROM, my TP GPS can't lock and view the satellite anymore. i got frustrated and hopeless about it. i already tried almost every single method until i find these one:
http://www.smartphonejunkie.com/gps-still-cant-t183417.html?t=183417
so i matched the IP between QPST and the IP server and port number on HKLM/Software/HTC/SUPL AGPS. After i match both of it, suddenly it start working again and the result is superior. i can lock 8 satellite even indoor on my private room. when i got outdoor it only need around 3-5 seconds to lock. so it even faster than before that need around 20-30 second with QuickGPS. sorry for my bad english, i just want to share a GPS problem that actually very tricky and have various problem.
Note: i never changed any settings on my QPST and i set the SUPLAGPS to follow my QPST value.
it's interesting that each time i changed the ROM, it also changed the IP and Port inside that registry.
hope this tricks helps. thank you
I just had that happened too...
If the above suggestioon does not work, I had applied this fix which worked for me when my GPS suddenly stopped working for no reason. My stoped working just a day before yours did. This of course happed just as I REALLY needed my GPS to work.
Here is the Fix.
Using a registry editor .....
HKLM/Comm/ConnMgr/Providers/{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}/Connections/Phone as Modem
Change the value AlwaysOn=1 to AlwaysOn=0
Soft Reset..
Worked for me.
If I helped send a thanks.

Keep losing WiFi connection!

I got my phone back on Wednesday from the repair people that my insurers use after dropping it last month and shattering the screen inside (fortunately the phone itself still worked properly)
At the time the phone had been dropped, I was having problems with it in that the phone couldn't get a phone signal at all and I was going to fix the problem myself. The repair people knew that it had been jailbroken and I explained that I would fix the problem with the lack of signal myself.
Now, I have a new problem in that every time I get a WiFi signal, it keeps getting disconnected within seconds and I've noticed that the repair people seem to have reactivated the infamous "Flight Mode" problem which seems to have somehow affected the inbuilt WiFi system in that every time the phone manages to detect a signal, whether it's at home or elsewhere, such as university, it loses the signal.
In any case, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem (I installed the latest VillainROM yesterday which is 3.0) including what modem to use and how to install it?
I would try some different modems and see if you find one that solves your problem. In the first few posts of the VillainRom thread is a link to the thread attachments. Included in there should be a few modems in zip format which you can flash through CWM. Also some of the posters (I think one is geko95gek??) have them in their signatures.
Hope this helps

Hey there, not sure whether this is an ongoing issue, but the problem seems to be related to the embedded kernel from VR 3.0 (Nimphetamine 2.0.5) I was facing exactly the same problem. The only way to fix it was to flash a different kernel (siyah 2.2 in my case) .
I tried all available radios but nothing fixed it, maybe pulser has to take care of it in the next release, so flash another kernel and the problem will be solved, good luck!
Yep, as in above post. WiFi drivers are found in the kernel. Try Siyah, Speedmod etc.

[Q] Wifi issues since ATT 4.5.141 update

I can't be the only one whose wifi has been acting up since the OTA update. I don't have an unlocked, flashed, etc. phone, just the official updates since I bought my Atrix last March. My wifi now periodically disconnects for a few seconds even if it was just fully connected. Very annoying while using apps, loading web pages, etc. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have had the same issue with wifi disconnecting at random times for a few seconds and then reconnecting. Mine is unlocked but I have not rooted since updating to 4.5.141.
I also had the issue since upgrading the OTA 4.5.141 update except after dropping a few times the wifi refused to pick up any networks at all and the bluetooth stopped working PERIOD!! It just so happens that I ended up having to replace one of the flex cables this morning since I couldn't hear any calls after my son got to the phone. I happened to have a water damaged atrix so i took the cable from that only expecting the call hearing issue to go away but immediately on boot to my surprise it said wireless networks available. I went on to check and sure enough it was now detecting networks and the bluetooth now turns on. Here's what happened initially maybe it will help any one else.
I constantly got the annoying OTA update available so after about 5 hours of being bothered by it I allowed it to download. I was running rooted with unlocked boot loader so I moved the boot patches found in the update file and did the update from CWM recovery (no info was available on xda at the time to guide me). Thought the update failed since it said something about the update~script seeing as I removed some entries from it. I rebooted to find it was on 4.5.141, wifi worked and so did bluetooth but then.....random restart. So upon reboot I noticed my WiFi didn't connect automatically so I checked only to find "Error" however bluetooth still worked....random restart again only to find none now worked. Tried different Roms, kernels, radios.....nothing worked. I contacted Motorola support who then referred me to Level 2 support which I never bothered calling. Though I read in other places about other android phones that it's a possibly hardware issue it never occurred to me seeing that my issue started happening AFTER the update. So I guess don't rule out the possibility of the update screwing up hardware (I guess...I know nothing of phones but that's what happened with me).
Update: I turned the bluetooth and WiFi on simultaneously and now the problem of WiFi dropping has re-occurred . I put in my MicroSD card and now it's no longer detecting networks or turning on bluetooth once again. Maybe a dev could shed some light on this.
I think there are issues with the 37P radio which was flashed along with the update. If you are unlocked you can of course flash back to the 36P radio to verify.
I am currently back on .30P radio but I have already tried .36P and .37P with no luck. Maybe something from OTA update messed with something that doesn't get flashed?
WiFi dropping out
Same problem. Wifi drops out very 10-30 minutes just for a few seconds then reconnects. Before the update Wifi would stay connected for days without any issues. I am rooted only. I have the 37p radio. If anyone tried to go back to the 36p and it works could you please post instructions?
thanks.
PS i havent tried the bluetooth function yet.

I'd love to know where.
No progress yet. I did post on the motorola forum but no suggestions yet. Wifi still dropping.

Motorola's response to me is to send the phone in for repair and be without my phone for 5-7days..
I think not...

Thanks I'll be adding my complaints. Really surprised more people aren't seeing this issue on here. My wifi worked perfectly before the update and started this mess literally within minutes of downloading it. It makes me doubt that I'll be able to wait until ice cream sandwich before biting the bullet and getting a new phone.
My wifi keeps dropping when im at home, but i havent noticed it do it at work, which is really odd. Worked fine before the update.
The last reply in that thread on the motorola forums suggested changing the DHCP lease time on my router from forever to 24 hours and so far (15 minutes) I haven't had one disconnect. Longest I've gone since the update so hopefully this will solve the issue. *fingers crossed*
could be your wireless router's DHCP lease time setting of forever (change to something less)...worth a try.
edit: double post of what Tre3180 ...some more info in the xda link
Perhaps the issue was going on from before the update but just became MUCH more pronounced after. I also have a Belkin router, for what it's worth.

Not likely. Most likely a bug introduced in the 2.3.6 build that we have. A lease time of forever = 0xffffffff = -1. Likely some new code treats this as "hey lease time has run out, go reconnect!!" instead of keep the connection.

Wifi Periodically Dropping out

Ive searched the forums, googled, factory reset, messed about with *#0011# power save, rebooted/forgot router and I'm STILL having issues with the wifi dropping and reconnecting periodically (maybe once every 10/20 mins?) . Im on BLG8 which is as far as i can tell the latest firmware (im not rooted) for the UK.
Has anyone got a solution to this? The main reason is I use Skype a lot and the call will just drop (obviously) with the wifi drop outs.
No other device has issues with my wifi router.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers
Does it make any difference how far you are from the router? Does it always connect fine initially?
I'm having the same issue and i've tried every fix that has been suggested. I dont understand after spending the amount of money i did on this phone that i have to run through the dialer to get it to work properly sometimes. Then other times it still drops out and wont come back on for 5 to 10 minutes. I've changed roms, kernels, and wiped completely i dont know how many times and went back to stock. Still works sometimes and hangs up others. There doesn't seem to be a permanent fix for people lucky enough to have this issue still. My 30 day return is way up and gone so i cant send it back. Samsung cant seem to give me an answer. I'm at a loss for words.

My 30 days was up, it's still been replaced under warranty. I took it to CPW who sent it away, it came back 'fixed' so I asked them to log into their WiFi... of course, they couldn't and the guy said he would order me a new phone but it would need to come from Samsung. My new one has blazing fast WiFi!
i have the same problem. i was hoping a new rom would fix it, but FWIR its busted. i get 2 bars MAX no matter how far i am from teh router. its fast enough, but it drops out constantly.
also my screen is sometimes slow to turn on from sleep.
im on vodaphone if that makes any difference.
Guys... I had a very similar problem with my phone.
First of all WiFi became very unreliable.. like yours. I changed ROM and it still persisted. I even went completely back to stock.. and it still persisted. Dropping out.. no reliable connection etc etc.
Then it started being really weird.. the touchscreen started responding intermittently. Sometimes I couldn't get it to unlock. And this was all on stock.. no root etc.
I was ready to send it back to be repaired.. and I came to the conclusion that there must be something staying the same.. even after a wipe / reflash. Maybe one of the other partitions was corrupt???
Now I'm not clever enough to investigate.. but I did come to the conclusion that a repartition may wipe everything and make it a real fresh install next time.
So I found an appropriate .pit file and stock ROM and used Odin to flash the ROM and partition the phone.
And it is now all fully functioning again.. no WiFi issues at all.
RTFM THO FFS! Potential for complete brick if you get it wrong

just..want..to..delete this post.........and I can't...so there is now filler here....GG k thx bai
It seems to have improved with the latest JB leak, still every now and then but certainly better - i did a full factory reset + cache wipe in stock recovery (im unrooted etc). Still, would a modified kernel/modem fix this very common issue?
This problem is everywhere it seems.
OK so really weird update: my screen unlock is still a bit slow, but my wifi hasnt dropped for a few hours. i went through all the vodafone crap and updated/ran/configured it all, and now it seems fine. seemed vodafone wanted to verify my phone+sim details but couldnt over the wifi so kept trying to do it over the 3g, but couldnt do it quickly enough so the wifi cut it back out again. I have a headphone amplifier that is very sensitive to mobile phone signals. it beeps 4 seconds before i get a message or phonecall, and "ticked" at me whenever my wifi dropped out. its not ticked in hours.
TL;DR anyone on vodafone, run your "my vodafone" application and configure it all. might fix it.
Mine drops wireless a lot when connected to wireless A networks. It seems stable on wireless N networks. Anyone else notice A networks to be worse?

GPS issue after upgrading to Nougat

Hello folks. I'm doing a bit of crossposting because I'm not entirely convinced this issue is being caused by my device.
A little context; A little while back a friend sold me a Pixel running 7.1, he wiped it and I set up my google account on it, move sims, etc. He sold it because he was having issues with the GPS (ill detail more in a bit) and had already moved to another phone for work. I figured factory resetting the phone would fix it. After not needing GPS for a while, I found out the problem was still occurring. I decided to take the time while my old phone wasn't using the sim to try and put 7.1 on it without being without a phone if I buggered it up. Everything worked fine, but heres the kicker; the exact same issue is now happening on my original phone, which had never experienced any GPS issues before this.
Device Specifics:
HTC ONE M8 (device model m8whl)
Running LineageOS 14.1-20170330-NIGHTLY-m8
Carrier SPRINT
I have TWMS as my recovery.
Problem Specifics:
I did some searching on the forum but couldn't find a topic with this problem. It seems common for people to have problems with getting no GPS signal but mine is different. I found other people with Pixels with this issue but the support always blamed hardware. I'm not convinced that's the case. When I am just using GPS for getting my location it works as well as you would expect. Basic GPS works fine, when I hit the button on Google Maps it can pinpoint me to my room in my house, the compass has my correct heading, and my weather apps can pull my location when I move around town. But when I try to navigate is when GPS breaks completely. While the dot representing my location starts out accurate, once I start driving and the GPS updates itself it is always a block or more away from where I actually am. Then it will never update my position from this initial incorrect spot.
I'm not really sure where to start troubleshooting this, any ideas?
