Hi guys,
I would like to access some shared files with my SGS2 in my home network through wifi. So i first looked up for some information. I installed the ES File Explorer and configured a folder on my harddisk to be shared.
Once i opened ES File Explorer, i thried to add a new server. So i filled in my ip-address and my username and password from the computer. But ESFE wasn't able to connect to it.
So i went looking on the internet for some information, and what i learned from it was that it worked through a smb connection, but i don't have any clue how to let it work.
Could anyone explain me how to set up such an smb connection and what are the different steps so that i can access the shared files on my computer with my SGS2.
Thx for the help.
Hi, depends on what operating system you use on the computer.
If your running windows make sure you have file and print sharing enabled in networking, and a shared folder. Appart from that smb is running.
Make sure when you connect your connecting to the shared folder as some file managers wont connect to just the pc.
If your runnin mac os or linux itl take some config so youl have to look that up.
Hope that helps!

I'm running on Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64 bit. File and print sharing is enabled.
I turned Windows Firewall off and instead i'm using the AVG firewall. Do I have to configure something in the firewall options?
I installed Astro File Manager and the SMB file module.
I had no problem accessing the windows shares on my local network - just entered IP address, share name, user name and password and it connected straight away.
Ok i found the (provisional) solution for my problem.
It worked to connect when i turned of the AVG firewall, so probably i have to configure something into AVG.
Yeah firewalls tend to like blocking smb. Somewhere you should be able to allow either port 445 or smb or file sharing in AVG not used it so i dont know where but it will be there! Glad you found a solution.

I have also been facing same problem.could not solve as above,my pc is running win 7 and i'm on checkrom3.1.1 with siyah kernal. How to share files on LAN apart from Kies Air( i have not installed it in my ROM.Pls help
Posted this on another forum so if you've already seen this over there, my apologies and your help was appreciated.
I'm trying to connect to my work email using the Exchange ActiveSync account on my Thunderbolt. To access my exchange remotely (via pc) i go to:
https://webmail.<company name>.com
my username is : <my domain>\<username used to log onto my machine>
my password is : the password i use to log onto my machine
moving to my TB I tried to let the settings auto detect first byjust putting in my email address and password but got an error message that it is unable to connect to the exchange server. So on the screen where you manually put in information i tried the following:
email address: my work email address
server address: webmailx.<company name>.com
domain: left this blank and tried w/ my domain that precedes my username
username: <domain name>\username (same as what is used on the pc) - tried both with and without the domain
password: the password i use to log onto my machine
before i used the above server address i would get an error stating that the exchange server could not be found and to check the settings. Once i put in the above i get an error stating that authentication failed and to verify my username and password. I've tried every combination possible that i can think of between my domain, email address, username etc.
Any and all help and suggestions here are greatly appreciated!
edit: i've tried using Touchdown with no luck on the above settings either.
Hello,
I'm using Windows 8.1 Professional on my PC. I don't have any password, I just turn on my PC and it goes on desktop. I shared a folder on my PC with "Everyone" and "ANONYMOUS LOGON" profiles having full control on the share. When I go on ES File Explorer, go on LAN section and select "scan" my PC shows up. (192.168.2.2) But when I try to connect with anonymous login, it says:
Login Failure
This may be caused by:
-WiFi is off, (No, my WiFi is on.)
-SMB server is out of network scope, (?)
-The IP is invalid, (IP is not invalid, that's my PC's LAN IP)
-Blocked by the firewall, (I have no firewall on the PC)
-SMB service is off. (SMB service is not off)
I also have a Raspberry Pi, and I'm able to mount this shared folder on my RPi, without any problem. (by using sudo mount -t cifs -o guest //192.168.2.2 /mnt/192.168.2.2/folder) If my RPi can mount this folder without any problem, my Xperia Z2 should mount this without a problem aswell, is that right?
So what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

You need to have a password for you account on your PC otherwise Windows does not let you share anything at all even if you set up a share as part of a security measure, this is default Windows behaviour.
If you want to have your computer login automatically when you turn your PC on and have a password setup, go to run and ype in "control userpasswords2" uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this cumputer" apply and ok, it'll ask you for your password when you click apply.

That's interesting. So how am I accessing the share via my RPi then? I don't think I must have a password installed on my PC.

It shouldn't be accessing it but Windows is known to have really dumb shares anyway. Try it with a password and see what happens.

Here is the solution
Hello ...
If you still need help. What you have to do is the following:
"ON WINDOWS"
1) You have to activate the smb1 protocol, which windows 10 by default has disabled (also works for windows 7 or windows 8). To activate the smb1 protocol, download this regedit file; which you will execute as administrator: [h t t p : / / v i w r i g h t . c o m / 1 8 2 7 6 8 9 9 / a c t i v a t e s m b 1 m e g a]
2) Make sure you have shared resources correctly, so you can navigate from your android device.
3) Restart the computer so that the changes are effective.
"ANDROID DEVICE"
1) Download the apk es file explorer pro Dark Version totally free for you: [ h t t p : / / v i w r i g h t . c o m / 7 0 D x ]
2) Go to the configuration section lan, then press scan. Then choose your equipment when it is presented in the scan ... it will ask for username and password. In user place the username with which you login in windows and in the password, you put the key of your username to log in windows. And ready!! That's it, you'll have access to all the resources shared on that computer. You can copy, paste, move, create, etc ... within any resource.
The key to unzip the zips is: contraseña
I'm trying to access a share on a Mac from Android. The share is on a FAT32 external drive, and I can browse/access it from another Mac and from a PC. But when I try to connect from Android, I get an error on the username/password (same user/pass as I'm using from other Mac and from PC). This happens with both ES File Explorer and AndSMB. I've tried both checking and unchecking the "Windows File Sharing" checkbox on the Mac, using anonymous, and two different userids (one a login user, the other a "sharing-only" user). The Android tablet (Galaxy Note 12.2 running CyanogenMod 12.1/Android 5.1.1) can access Windows shares but I need to get to some stuff on the Mac. My phone (stock GS6) is the same--can access Windows and my router's USB share but not the Mac.
I'd like to use SMB instead of something like file transfer because I want to stream video from my Mac to my kids' android tablets on a long airplane flight.
Searching didn't turn up anything useful so I'd appreciate pointers to threads where this has been discussed.
TIA.
Bill
Like the title says. I tried MyCloudPlayer but i can't log in. It says username or password is incorrect but same username and password work on my pc
