[Question] Are there any upcoming ROMs that will run Marshmallow? - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, since the recent announcement from OnePlus we will have to wait a bit until Marshmallow update finally hits our OnePlus X devices.
The subforum for Android development for X seems to be very quiet and I'm simply just wondering if there is any new ROM in the making.

Yes.

Don't take this the wrong way but why?
I am trialing the Sony Z3 Compact with its official Marshmallow concept. I have a Nexus 9 running MM.
The only real advantage of MM is the battery saving features.
Other than that after a few months with the OP2 and now a week with OPx I find Oxygen a rather pleasing operating system with many distinct advantages over Lollipop.
Add to that the fact that I use Nova, and hey presto, I have a phone that with careful camera use, is a delight to use.

Why? Because I want the latest Android version on my brand new phone. I would buy a nexus phone but they are ugly as hell and the OnePlus X is no doubt the sexiest Android phone to date!
I want a phone with M but chose a phone that wouldn't get it for a couple of months, so thats where this thread came to life.

Doze is basically the biggest reason I want M. OnePlus X's battery haven't been bad or anything yet, though.

Fair comment, I guess that for the fist time in a while, I am rather content with a device.

Same here. The phone overall is very nice. Everyone who have seen/held it have said something like 'Woah, thats a nice phone!'.
Imagine if you could turn any phone into vanilla Android without anything "extra" needed..

Porting Lollipop to the G2?

I know LG has confirmed Lollipop next year for the G2 but is it possible for Lollipop to be ported from another device? (Like the Nexus 5)
Or do we have to wait for LG to release some sort of source/kernal?
Just wondering
The G3 will get it by the end of this year, most likely we'll get a port from that

You sure about that? I mean I'm no code builder but I figured that would take a while, thatd be great if your right tho.
I'd definitely consider going AOSP Lollipop as its aesthetically pleasing. Never really liked AOSP Kitkat

My Shield Tablet is getting the Lollipop update this month, so it would be cool to keep the UI standardized between my G2 and that. A CM12 version of Lollipop would be nice, but I want a straight up AOSP version so bad! Nvidia's barely touched version of Android is way nicer after I rooted it and installed xposed compared to CM11. Perfection on the G2 would be if LG releases Lollipop for the G2 and someone did something like the de-Sensed ROM's on the HTC phones. Strip off the LG UI and keep the it pure Android, but with all the LG stuff under the hood so we still have good camera performance and less issues.

I've used Lollipop on my Nexus 5 since the first dev preview was released. ART results in a long first boot because it is compiling the runtime cache for each app. Every boot after that should be the same or better as Dalvik used to be. It is the same as it was on KitKat, with LRX21M the N5 boots in about 3-5 seconds. 5.0 gives crazy performance improvements, especially on older devices like the Nexus 10 (KitKat performance was okay at best). It will definitely be worth it.
Question is, how possible is it? I sold the G2 in April because of all the kernel issues and loki patches LG made. How unlocked is this device at this point? For me, AOSP ROMs had issues galore(GPS, freezing, etc.) because of the lack of source, and certain radios had loki patches in them(ZVA,ZVC etc.). Even ROMs were dropping support for the G2 due to kernel issues. Remember that the stock Google kernel CANNOT obtain root on Lollipop, a custom kernel is required, preferably with SELinux set to permissive. On Nexus that has been achieved because of the unlocked bootloader allowing for the flashing of .imgs. If the kernel needs to be in-line with LG source + bootloader, I highly doubt that root would be easy to obtain...
Basically, what is the status of the G2 at this point?

Nicely said. I don't have an option, though. Meh.
I think we should see how the G3 goes with rooting when Lollipop hits.
Yeah, that's been my experience while looking for stable custom Roms. It appears, g2 is best used as stock or sold (although I have the highest regard for all the devs who worked countless hours to bring us all the custom goodness on g2). But it appears most devs are moving to other platforms starting 5.0. I hate stock OS so much that selling the device looks to be my next best option, but there's just no clear winner\awesome device to push me over the edge (thanks google for ur 6 inch monster - now even the nexus is out).

I havent seen a single developer depart recently for 5.0 besides madhi i believe, though i wouldn't be surprised if he was working on some kind of port!

We have some core developers like @dorimanx and all the other cool cats who maintain huge multiplatform roms. I'm going to attempt porting lolli to the g2 right now. The repository is syncing, i have lg kitkat source and @dr87 has sources for porting roms within kitkat.
I can extrapolate and figure out how to rebase it on 5.0, but many developers will do so before me. Things arent that bad really for the G2, id say they are WAY better than they were 6 months ago.

Yeah, uh. It appears the second half of my post was cut out.
I'll just retype it here:
It's very possible. People can do what Cyanogen did with CM11. It's not very unlocked, really. Nothing has really changed since Loki was released. AOSP ROMs have been better recently, but the camera is pretty bad.
Everything is exploitable. Perhaps they'll figure out how to get out of the sandbox. Just look at iOS, for example.
Now, since since Lollipop kernel sources will likely be open, people can probably create a flashable zip of a Lollipop OTA and remove that part of the kernel that prevents rooting. People can always use the flash tool tip restore to an older version and then use AutoRec.

I second that request. The LG V10 is a brilliant, flagship device...marred only by lousy battery life (ez to swap the battery out, though). I was expecting that since LG is porting Nougat to the V10, there would be dev work going on. There was a rooted version of the stock H90120e upgrade (which I have on my h901); but, it seems all development stopped after that. The fact that there were enough V10 owners to force LG into doing the Nougat upgrade should prove that there is a sizable market for a new, unlocked Nougat ROM. If anyone does it, I will be glad to act as a tester.

Battery life..yea...in my experience, it fluctuated allot. For a while, my V10 was getting very good battery life, but the last couple months, battery life is terrible, especially just standby time. Its drops to the mid 60's after just 4 hrs of sitting with screen off and nothing happening. I haven't change anything on it.
I recently switched to my Moto X Pure that is stock 6.0 but rooted and lightly modded with exposed....battery life is freaking amazing. Downgrade in camera(but stereo front facing speakers sound amazing), but I think my taste in Android had changed. Moto is closest to pure Google Android as u can get without getting a Nexus or Pixel, only a little bit of Moto apps and services added on...no UI or heavy customization. The experience is much smoother.
I recently had the chance to actually use a Pixel XL for a few days...and WOW...never used Android device that was so buttery smooth and fast. Makes sense cause with the Pixel, Google controls both hardware and software (like Apple and iphone). Only things that is holding me back is that the Pixel doesn't support AptX, which is important to me (but i read that Android O will soon fix that), and also the hefty price...have to get 128gb version since 32 is too small for me and no micro sd slot. Would cost $1,048 for the Pixel 128Gb with Google 2yr ADH warranty. Also, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL (6in lcd) may come out end of this year (November?) so looking forward to seeing how they improved upon the already nice product...at the very lest, price on 1st gen Pixel should come down at that point. Rather wait and dump the money on newer model in a few months...
As far as my V10....plan to wipe and re-flash rom...see if that helps restore the things battery life....but rather do that with an updated custom stock rom...but nothing newer than what i already have....so it its waiting for the 7.0 update.

Hi
I have a V10 H901 running Eliminator74's custom debloated V20L Rom and have no problems with battery in standby (overnight it only looses 2 to 3%)
and under normal use during the day I admit battery life is not outstanding but I do manage to get through the day.

yea....like i said....mine used to be like that...but recently...the phone hates me. Moto X pure is more than 2x the battery life. Been off charger since yesterday evening...still says 1 day 1hr left. Same normal apps installed and active.
YEAH! We want custom roms, Mods, tweaks, etc! This phone is extremely great!
I cannot promise anything due to work taking up time, life, etc...
But I really want to get xposed working on Nougat, and it doesn't seem terribly difficult with what I saw put up on github recently. That's going to be my first pet project. I haven't messed with this stuff in a few years though, so will have to shake off some rust. If I get it done... it will go up here! lol It's way more for me (I love xposed) then anyone else, but if I get it working why not share with the class!

I got the same problem, Battery life used to be good and all of a sudden it dropped drastically, Hate to see no updates from LG Tmobile, I think the problem is with the android system itself sucking the battery. New battery didn't help. I tried go launcher and it seems to be better ,, so I doubt the launcher is eating up every bit of battery. you could try different launchers and check if that is the issue. ( screen consuming all the battery )
But cant wait to update to nougat. so finally here at xda forums. Awesome folks here!!!
Any idea on how to root h901 running Nougat 7
yes to this thread, please build a stable lineage version for the h901 v10.

Will the Mate 10 have a True and active Dev and Mod support from developers?

I'm really interested in getting this phone, I have skipped the Note 8 until I see what this phone brings, and from what I saw at the presentation I looks like an AWESOME phone, but when I look at past Huawei flagships (mate 9, P9, etc) almost non-existing major updates, custom roms support and mods I start thinking if paying a premium price for a phone like this its really worth for a person like me who likes to play around with rooting, modding and installing custom roms in my devices or should I play safe and get a Samsung or Pixel device.
No. Do not buy Huawei if modding is important.
Non existent with previous mate 9 and barely with mate 8.
Across the board, it's not getting easier

To be honest you are better off not getting any flagship if you like modding. The pixel is a pain to dev for to the point that many devs are not getting the new pixel or even supporting it. Samsung well we all know that dev support for that is a joke.

If modding is your thing then I would look at something like one plus. Things to avoid are devices with dual partition setup. The pixel showed how much devs dont want to deal with that.
Things to look out for are things like kernel source being up to date which I hate to say knocks 90% of the China based OEM out of it. Maybe the Euro version of samsung devices might be OK but even they get little to no real devs support. I would look around the site. See what devices have real support. No I am not talking about tons of los based roms. That is not development. I mean real development with system mods and hardware tweaks.

This I agree with but many of the OEM are opting out of sdcards ever since google removed all the code fore native sdcard support from android years ago. But to be hones 64gb is more then enough for a mobile device. Mix that with some common sense (backing up stuff. No I dont mean cloud backup lol)

Why not? You can get systemless root (Exynos) or TWRP installed classic root (Snapdragon) for Note8.
Sure Knox and/or SafetyNet gets tripped, but that's the price to pay for rooting.
But you can root current flagship phones and there's plenty of modding community for Note8.

Samsung based roms are not development. Samsung devices have sucked for development for years. This is why main stream developers don't get that device.
Ok, thanks for the info. I haven't followed the scene. Just installed a good LO fork on my Note3 and it is working wonders (sans NFC and GPS/camera performance is generic).

Yes. The 6p (minus the battery issues) is good for rom development. It will get support from 3rd parties for at least another 2 years.
I would say the one plus 3 or 3t

Problem with OP (I switched from OP5 to IP7+ just recently because I kept hearing rumors that OP5T/OP6 might come out and I was afraid the value might drop to a point where re-sale value is no longer profitable..IP7+ is awesome in many ways, but my initial goal was getting LG V30 but now it seems Mate 10 is much wiser choice because of its awesome screen to body ratio + 16:9 aspect ratio which currently IMO is way better than 18:9/18:9.5 considering full app support, including youtube and so on) is that it does not have its own identity - its basically an iphone clone design wise and with it you look like a wannabe iphone user . Its awesome in performance but that identity thing sucks + they recent actions where they discontinue a model even before 6 month span is just plain ridiculous (OP3 to OP3T and then OP3T to OP5 all done within 1 year)..

Tell that to the fact that they offer how to build aosp for their devices, have worked with developers on it as well as pretty much made the theme engine that susbstratum works off of.
Will there be loses. Sure but that is the difference between aosp and using code made for the device. You don't always get all the features of the device with aosp. But that is not the point of using aosp. It's to learn.

Tell that to the fact that they offer how to build aosp for their devices, have worked with developers on it as well as pretty much made the theme engine that susbstratum works off of.

Yes, but with sony aosp you get 13% quality of camera comparing it to stock, so they are stupid.

Needing advice - best stock firmware for battery/performance/stability

Hi there all - I've been digging through these forums, and all over the web, and have not found a definitive answer for this one.
I'd love to know what the best setup is for a stock ROM - I'm running 7.11 (latest 32.4.A.1.54) and I'm not too impressed with the battery life, even with a brand new battery. That version is stable for me, but I'm wondering who's tinkered with their phone enough to have a good baseline?
I'm wanting to root, and then run a debloated stock ROM. I'll happily apply some tweaks, but the ones I've seen on here appear to be no longer stable, or unrelated to my needs.
Who's settled on a really good setup for their Z5C? I want to get a final config and just use the thing until I upgrade - no more testing updates etc. I doubt we'll be getting many more official updates...

I'd be totally willing to give it a go - it just seems that all the ROMs I've found have one or two decent 'not working' issues. I'll look into it - thanks for the recommendation.
Last Android 5, 32.2.A.0.305_R5C gave me, yes I am a light user, 10 (ten) days!
Then 6 came and it almost halved.
Fingerprint unlocking was better on 6, so I didn't go back to 5.
Phone battery was fresher then of course.

That's amazing! What do you get on 6? 7 has not been good battery-wise for me.

On 6: it was a 4-6 days. Now on 7.1.1 (32.4.A.1.54_R3E) 3 days, but nowadays a use the device more intense (GPS always on). I have ForceDoze installed. Don't expect wonders from ForceDoze.
I am not monitoring it very close anymore, just accepted that it isn't over week anymore!
On 5 I had not ForceDoze installed, bus disabled some things (usually GPS off)
You guys, more than 2days means you are not REALLY using your phone!!! Or you are using it as a phone and not much more!!! Add Bluetooth connections, sometimes bad signal, location services, multiple messaging apps and mails to get the usual battery time of 1-2 days?
I'm intrested in this question too... Which is the best ROM for Z5c for STABILITY and STABILITY and features?
I installed eXistenZ on a Z3c and I really loved it. Everything working without a single bug and a lot of extra customizations thanks to eXistenZ app. Is there something similar for Z5c? Or an AOSP ROM without any single bug and perfectly stable?
Thank you

But is it better than stock ROM?
Im looking for the same thing as OP. Clean, stable and good battery life. But since messing with Sony roms and root is far more complicated than it is on a Samsung, LG and pretty much anything else, just havnt taken the time to try out everything. Hope anyone who has tried different roms can give their suggestions, thanks
Latest .11 MM stock rom is also very good.
I'm still using it daily on my Z5c, as I never updated it to Nougat (mainly because xposed was not supported months ago). It's stable and battery friendly. You should try it.
Doze and long-life battery features are there.
I cannot say if camera is better on Nougat, this is one of the most Important questions imo.

Question Suggest me best custom ROM?

Pixel OS vs Pixel Experience+ vs Pixel Plus Ui or more. Which ROM has better performance and battery backup??

AFAIK, pixel plus ui for mojito is dead. LineageOS is besto rn
I didnt try recent updates of Lineage but it seems very good when i try it a couple months ago. Pixel Os very good but have Safety Net issues as Pixel Experience, already fixed in Feb update but not available yet. Arrow Os is clean af, not having the safety net issue and only bug that i could think of is PUBG force closing but nobody knows anything about Feb update yet. YAAP and Statix Os are good too, Statix already with Feb update and safety net working fine. All of them except Pixel Experience share the same group of devs, so are very good roms indeed and use Neternels kernel which in my opinion is the best. Im on Pixel Experience with Neternels kernel right now waiting for the Feb update on any of those roms to switch and stay hopefully.

miui is best rom for people who can't try roms and create their own opinion about them
now , of course... the correct question may be... Which ROM do you people recommend? and users can reply with their favorite ROM...

and is extremely tiring finding this question everywhere every 10 minutes
and also making VS like this is a fight to dead... Just use whatever you want dude

Yeah thats right. The only thing that is bugging me about miui is the ram management, i didnt have any serious bug while using it. Trying to find best rom is tiring too, sooo, is you dont have any bugs and want every app working without problems stock is king. If not custom roms are always a better choice than miui.

apart from ram ... miui is soooo damn laggy
it's imposible to use! the most long i stayed on miui was 10 minutes!
and yeah you're totally true... finding a perfect rom is tiring... a lot of clean flash and time spent on testing
so at the end i choose lineage... (not only self promotion) just i want something simple to use rather than thousand of customizations.
Custom ROMs are a must on a Xiaomi Device

Yeah the performance is kinda random, some days is fine and the others day lagging af. I found that the miui version worth using is the factory one, works like a charm compared to updates but is outdated as hell. The thing i miss the most is the speakers sound quality, always trying to come back but i cannot stay there for more than a day now haha. Your rom is very good, i havent tried the recent updates but was the first i installed for mojito where Summoners Wars worked without any problems

There is NO BEST ROM.
It depends on what "you" want.
If you mean the most stable, then stock, as @alonsoj636 said.

I actually said it as a joke.
MIUI is the worst ROM ever
unstable , buggy and laggy AF
but can be good for people who can't make their own opinion about roms and keep asking for the best hehe

Thats right. If he wants to use MIUI i recommend the first rom for his model. In global is 12.0.2, fast (compared with other versions, gaming is stable. Ram management the same sadly. Cons is android 11 and outdated security patch, idk how much troublesome could that be from a normal user security perspective.

people which do not know much about technology do not care too much as i saw phones of family and friends with 1-5 years outdated security patch and with sensitive information but they do not care too much.
me as a cyber-security maniac i'm always looking the latest security patch and best security tips so using old miui is a hell no for me (miui is a spyware/adware by itself)
