Problems with an unlocked bootloader Z4 - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I purchased a Z4 SGP771 to use as both a laptop and phone replacement. Works wonderfully for me; although the KB is a bit small for continuous use, it's fine for my purposes.
However, I got overeager and went through the steps to unlock the bootloader in anticipation of rooting the device (which I haven't yet done) and now I've got some issues I'm hoping the good people here can help with.
1. I'm still running the original stock rom it shipped with: 5.0.2
2. I can't get screen mirroring with miracast to work with my bravia tv - specifically I get an error saying that the TV doesn't support HDCP. On the sony support forums, they specifically mention unlocking the bootloader being an issue here. And yes, the TV in question is Wi-Di capable. The tablet can see it, and the TV even has a built in mirroring input setting - the tablet just fails to make the connection.
3. I was able to get remote play to work with my PS4 briefly - it displayed on my Z4's screen very nicely. Now however, I can't get it to do anything but display a grey screen with on-screen controls (like the tablet is being used as a large and clumsy dual-shock controller). To be honest, I cannot remember if the remote play feature was working after I unlocked or not. RL work became very busy and I was unable to take advantage of the remote play option for several days. When I got back to it, it just wasn't working.
Generally speaking, everything else is still running fine. I believe I can fix #1 on my own, but I'm baffled on #2 and #3 without sending it back to Sony for a true repair/relock.
So anybody got any suggestions?

So a bit of an update is in order. After checking in with Sony directly - just a query on their "if you return it for service you may be charged a significant fee, since you've modified the tablet" quote - and they informed me that "yeah, you can't return it at all, sorry no dice, thanks for playing." I went ahead and at least did a full system backup and reboot.
Surprise, surprise, Remote Play works again. I've got significant lag over my router, but I think that's a function of the router, not anything to do with the tablet. So #3 just up and fixed itself. Yay for that.
Screen mirroring is still fubar however. This ultimately isn't a major issue since it isn't something we were aiming to do very often anyway. We only attempted it during a recent soccer game broadcast that wasn't being carried on any of the stations I subscribe to through my cable provider, but was available streaming. So #2 isn't fixed yet, and that does seem to be a direct result of unlocking. I can live with it, but finding a solution would be preferable.

Yes miracast will fail if you unlock.
At least for test devices it is possible to enable it again afterwards but I don't know about retail ones. In any case I'm pretty sure you can't do it via EMMA so I don't think simple Sony service points can do that.
I'll try to find out.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/help/fix-hdcp-error-miracast-ezcast-screen-t3123560
... helped me with the miracast problem! Addedt the Values in /system/etc/wfdconfig.xml and build.prop, ran terminal command as in post #6 and voila .... screen mirroring is working on my samsung f6500
Hope it helps ....
Cheers

How does it work on test device?
If it is differ from above link's fix, it's really interesting.

If I remember correctly it changed something in the TA partition with an internal tool SONY Mobile has.
But that was quite some time ago - a couple of years.

[Q] What can I throw to?

Just got my Xperia tablet Z yesterday. Loving it so far.
I was wondering what I can throw my videos to (their DLNA sharing feature).
I have my computer, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 hooked up to my TV.
I would think that the PS3 would be the most likely device, since it can stream videos from a computer. How do you set that up?
Thanks
*bump*
Just to follow up, this feature works but isn't that great, in my experience.
You can turn on 'media server' in the Xperia settings. The device showed up on my ps3 and computer, but in both cases I got an error when actually trying to play a video. I'm sure I could fiddle with it to get the files to play, but I don't think I'd use it anyway.
What I was hoping for is, I could watch a video on the bus on the way home, and if I don't finish it, I wanted to effortlessly finish off the video on the bigger screen. I don't think it really works that way though.
I throw to my WD TV Live. Works perfectly with music, doesn't at all with video (but I don't mind, I mean, it's a WD TV Live so I don't need a smartphone for that )
I just picked up my XTZ today finally. Was trying to throw from my Xperia Z to the tablet but can't get either to see the other device is available :-\
Sent from my Xperia Tablet Z
The trow feature in my opinion is fantastic, but extremely temperamental.
I throw video to my Xbox 360 constantly, bearing in mind that my videos have to be coded a certain way with handbrake in order for them to show.
That's even before it recognizes the device. Every time, it takes me 10minutes just to get the tablet to see the Xbox is switched on. It requires multiple reboots of both the Xbox and the Tablet, It seems it must be done a 'certain' way in order for the tablet to recognize the Xbox.
Let's the feature down big style.
The most important thing to bear in mind when using DLNA is that the DLNA-server decode the video.
The DLNA-client shows it.
If your device can't play MKV with DTS, then it won't work.
The best thing you can do is to install PS3 Media Server on your computer with MPlayer.
Then use your computer as file-server which can make all your devices play all file-types.
I use it on my KDL-46V5500, PS3 and XTZ.

I'm not sure 100% but I think that I have read that since last june update Throw doesn't work on XZ, must be verified as I don't use this feature for now.
Yeah, this feature isn't really useful unless it's dead simple (for video anyway).
If it takes 5 minutes to get it going, you might as well just copy the video over with a USB stick.

Yeah no worries. Wish throw worked to a PS3. Have to use the media server feature of the tablet/phone instead. Would have thought I could throw media to the tablet too but guess not.

Throw works pretty well for me actually. I can throw to my TV directly. (Samsung 55ES8000), as well as a Sony Google TV device. It's actually kind of convenient, and always begins working within just a moment for video, and audio. So I guess as goes with everything; Your mileage may vary.
I'm new and I don't mean to be a bother.

Hi. The reason I'm replying to your comment it's because I have a question that it's related to what you were expecting from the throw feat, but I don't know if this is the right place to ask or where to start this thread. But anyway... here it goes.
I just got an Xperia z1 and its the first time I heard about the throw feature and it got me thinking... I know this is still a little far fetched but hey, great products have to start somewhere. So, what would be needed to make something like throw but more powerful? almost like the software that Tony stark uses in the Iron man movies where you could actually "throw" an image with a gesture on your smartphone to your TV or xbox without the need of syncing or asking for permissions. Now, I know this just causes a lot of trouble because of the matter of privacy and security (you know, you wouldn't want strangers sending porn to your tv while your kids watch cartoons), not to mention that there's the matter of choosing the actual device that you want to send the file to among all the other devices, and this means that there would be need of a lot of new protocols and a lot of work but you have to start somewhere, right? I'm sorry if I'm being naive, I know developing something like this would take years and a team of experts but I'm willing to work hard and do a lot of research. I just need someone to pint me in the right direction
I apologize in advance if I'm just wasting everybody's time. I'm just a begginer developer that just started an engineering career in computer systems. Also I've been playing a lot of Watch dogs lately and the idea of accesing everything from your smartphone is just so fricking mesmerizing

Bluetooth Devices

EDIT: Never mind, tested it on other phones and it works fine. Apparently my phone's hardware has broken Bluetooth. Great. Might just switch phones because of that.
Okay. So, I took the plunge and bought the Sony Smartwatch 2. It's a nifty device, and I've had my eyes on it for a while. But here's my problem - It'll stay connected via Bluetooth, but it won't sync information. I've already asked around on those forums - Those guys aren't much help. The thing is, I think my phone's Bluetooth is faulty or malfunctional. It doesn't work with my MOGA controller either.
I am sincerely asking, is there any way to fix this?
And yes, I know this isn't the right forum - But I'd be drowned out by everyone over there asking about Security Errors because they didn't read.
Thanks in advance. I'm flashing Kuma's ROM again (Currently on V21D from Wind) and factory resetting, going to see if that'll fix it.

Cast screen to appradio3?

Hi guys if your reading this maybe you can help me. I have an appradio3 that I to be able to cast my screen onto. Now brief background, I used to be on Verizon limited data with a rooted note2 that I direct connected via HDMI. I now have mistakingly switched to att and now i have a new note7 that doesn't have anyway to connect directly to the deck since Samsung has taken it out. Now I've since read about using a Chromecast and casting that way. That's all well and good if and only if you have a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone which I don't and i dont want to pay for the very limited hotspot plan for my phone to do that. Now I'm not opposed to rooting my note7 which I've looked into that but I've got an sm-n930a. And using the Sprint method doesn't work well for my model. Seen a video were a guy did get his tmoblie phone to root but the process was very lengthy. Or I'm not opposed to rooting if possible the Chromecast. I've got both the newer and the older version of that. I've looking briefly through the Chromecast threads and didn't see if once rooted that you could Wi-Fi direct to the CC. Like once your setting it up it Wi-Fi directs to your phone then switches to normal Wi-Fi. Is this possible??? Or if there's any other device that could get this to work with an appradio3 I'll totally try that.

I'm guessing after the note 7 recall this issue has "solved" its self... I am curious what you did wind up doing. I have the same App radio 3. I used to mirror my S5 to the thing with a samsung hdmi adapter and had full bluetooth touch controlls. Ever since android started setting selinuix to enforced it has become an issue to emulate touch control from the app radio to the phone. Screen mirriroing alone didnt really make me all that happy since I couldnt make it do much without touching the phone. Do you by chance have any advise on this?
What phone did you go to after the Note 7?
Well unfortunately I've gone to an iPhone 7 plus. Which I'm a droid person at heart and it's been a hard switch. Mainly cause I like the ability to mod the droid over iPhone. That said though the iPhone can still hook up to the AppRadio once you've got the appropriate adapters. So right now I can mirror the phone and can watch YouTube videos on the deck. If watching a YouTube it'll allow the phone to go dark or browse for your next video. Still looking into loading videos on the iPhone than watching them on deck but haven't put to much effort into as of yet. The real bummer is that there isn't no support to mod the iPhone to use full touch screen like if you had a droid with the hdmi. I've actually posted on several iPhone forums with just the question and after 2 months have not gotten a response. I still have my note2 and could hook that stuff back up but I have no internet on it so I couldn't watch YouTube from it. And I know this is droid forum but if anybody can help with modding the AppRadio app for iPhone like they did for the droid I'd throw some funds your way, but I can't throw to much since winter time is slow work months for me.

Logitech Revue, Stuck in setup

Hey everyone, Picked up a Logitech Revue (with google TV)
This supposedly cost the company an arm and a leg and flopped, it was discontinued I think in 2012 or 2013..
Anyway ran across one at the junk store for $1 so I picked it up.
I tested it out everything seemed fine, I was running it offline.. tested some music, movies.. no problem.
Side loaded some apps but pretty much everything crashes.. My collection of APK's are drawn from ARM/MIPS
This device runs a Intel Atom so no surprise there.. anyway It had the original owners info on it so after testing I decided to start fresh.. BIG MISTAKE.
I factory reset but when it came back up it demanded to go thru setup.. no way to avoid that I can see.
First it wants net.. well ok, then it wants google login.. errr.. well ok.. then we get to step 7.. acceptance of Logitech license.
We get a error.. I know it's got net access so im assuming logitech has shuffled some things on their end and the device can no longer get a valid response.. since you can't skip setup there is no way to continue and im left with a brick
I searched google but found very little about the device.
Any information, advice, help would be appreciated.
I really just wanted to be able to surf the web, stream music/movies from local network, and maybe find some compatible emulators for games, I think this would have worked just fine for that.
Well no responses yet, but im not surprised, given the obscurity of the device and issue.
I did recieve a response back from Logitech support, Basicly, they admit it's a problem, there is no fix, since support ended for the device you're just S.O.L
So as a warning if you have a Logitech revue and it's working.. DO NOT EVER RESET IT.
"Please note that we can no longer complete the setup for this product once it is reset. No further update is in place for Logitech Revue as this product has been discontinued already. Admittedly, there's no fix available to get around this."
Hopefully someone where can come up with some idea's.. otherwise Im stumped.. can't find much on the net about it.. no modiffied firmwares or anything
I am stuck on step #7 too...
What I can tell you is that it is failing on a call to discovery.logitech.com... That appears to be an IIS / .NET webservices server, it's up and running which makes me think that the endpoint that the logitech server uses has been nuked or some backend db has been shutdown which sends back an error. Can't really tell what the exact URL is as the request is HTTPS, so it doesn't show up on the http proxy.
A port scan shows the following open ports:
Open TCP Port: 5222 jabber-client
Open TCP Port: 5223
Open TCP Port: 9551
Open TCP Port: 9552
Open TCP Port: 45399
None of the ports respond to adb, however 45399 does respond with a http 400 (bad request).
Maybe if we had someone with root who could dump the firmware we could figure out something else to try... :\
Bump?
I really wish I saw this before resetting my revue. It worked great for what I needed. Now it's a paperweight.

Mine stopped booting so I thought a reset would correct the issue. It boots up now, but I'm also stuck. Boo for planned obsolescence!
Yes, I too having the same issue, my google account got locked, so i was getting error like retry.... then i thought to change the email account after reset, but unfortunately it is not able to change even the email account and not able to pass through step 7 of 11. as you said this box is just like a paper weight, so, I bought a Raspberry PI 4 with 2GB device and installed LineAge 16 OS (Android 9) on it and now I am enjoying LIVE TV as well all internet TV like Hotstar / Netflix and YouTube...

Reverse Tethering on T-820 (Option not available)

I want to be able to plug my new Galaxy Tab S3 (T-820) into my desktop computer or laptop via the USB C cable and not just move files back and forth, (which works fine), but ALSO have access to my desktop's internet connection through USB. I don't want to use WiFi.
I have an Ethernet to USB C dongle, which works fine, but it doesn't allow me to share files or charge my tablet. I'd like to be able to do all three at the same time.
In many of the "How To" articles out there where "Reverse Tethering" is described, they helpfully list the various buttons and widgets to click in order to enable this feature. However the authors always refer to menu items and buttons which don't appear under my tablet's settings. They're not just greyed out. They're simply absent. So that doesn't work.
Neither do any of the various apps on the Google Play Store and elsewhere which promise to provide reverse tethering. They just don't work.
SO...
Being new to the Android (and the smartphone) universe, I did a ton of homework and have so far figured out how to...
Root my tablet. (Done!)
Wade through the swamp of TWRP, ODIN, etc., while tripping spectacularly over the various speed bumps and permission walls provided by the likes of Samsung and Google's paranoid anti-theft (and it would seem from my use case, their anti-happiness) feature set.
Successfully install different flavors of Android.
Install both Magisk and Xposed and try their tethering unlockers with negative results.
After a week of little sleep, I've managed to get through all of this torturous nonsense and amaze myself by not having bricked or totally spoiled my tablet. It still functions! After all the warranty-voiding BS I've crammed through it, I'm feeling quite lucky.
However... I still don't have the ability to tether/reverse tether!
I've learned a lot, but I still feel mostly like a dazed and confused script kiddie (remember when 'script kiddie' was a term? Well for me, it still applies nicely.) I'm trying my level best, but various elements of this whole exercise remain opaque. This is my first post in any forum asking for advice because I finally hit the outer bounds of my DIY energies and pride.
So, if you will indulge my humble request, what I want to know is...
1. Is my tablet even capable on a hardware level of performing a reverse tether, or has the manufacturer locked that feature out so that even a ROM which promises to turn it on will fail to do so?
AND...
2. If it IS possible for a ROM to turn on the tether/reverse tether feature, which one is it and where can I find it?
2a. If there is another solution.., what is it?
I'm currently on...
Android Version 8.0.0
Samsung Experience version 9.0
Kernel Version 3.18.71-13482624
Build Number R16NW.T820XXU1BRE2
I bought this unit off Amazon; it was a refurb and I didn't get it through some cellular provider nor do I have a phone plan. I don't know where this tablet originally came from, but it was all new, sealed and shiny in the box when I got it.
Thanks!
I can appreciate losing a week of sleep. But I don't understand why you need to reverse tether. Enable WiFi and there you go. I think the last time I needed to tether a device through my laptop's internet connection would have been the 1990s.
FWIW the USB-C connector on the TAB S3 is different because if you want to drive an HDMI monitor you need a DisplayLink chip enabled dongle and DisplayLink Presenter app running on the Tab S3. Whereas on my TAB S4 I can just plug any regular old USB-C -> HDMI dongle and display on the monitor. So odds are trying to get reverse tethering working on the Tab S3 is going to be an exercise in futility.

What...? It worked?! Thank-you!
It's hard to believe how much effort and research I'd put into this, how many promising fixes I tried and which failed. In truth I'd given up weeks ago and found myself scornfully looking at the expensive tablet by my desk, wondering if I should hang on to it for its limited uses or sell it on eBay.
Thanks for posting! I can now do what I wanted with this machine.
For others, just follow the directions on the github link provided in the previous post.
I just scrolling around to find fixes for wifi issue - it connect & reconnect every times when on my office connection. Since me unable to use wifi, i try to find the work around using LAN connection. Then i found that.
Happy i can help others. Cheers mate.
