How much unlocked bootloader affects on camera quality? - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Hi everyone. I really wan't to root but I can't help wondering how much losing the DRM keys will affect on camera. Could someone who has root post pictures how's the camera quality after unlocking the bootloader? Maybe before and after pics? Or should I wait until someone finds out root method without unlocking the bootloader?

I mean no affect to phone functions. I have unlocked bootloader more than month and all problems after unlocking bootloader what have Z series, here isnt. It only delete drm keys. Camera quality is normal, trackid app working, working everything.
Only i read myXperia app can hard brick phone when is activated and unlocked bootloader, im not tested it, and i dont want to test it in future.... I easily uninstalled myXperia

I'm in the process of going back to stock, I have lost camera quality and also my loud speaker is not the same as before root. I only hope going back to stock will restore normal functionality

Losing DRM keys will affect lowlight situations. I'm just wondering how much of an impact it'll have on the quality. That's why I'm asking if someone has comparison pictures.
Going back won't restore camera quality. Once you lose DRM keys, they're gone. We should have root method that doesn't require unlocking bootloader. This way you can do TA Backup and keep the keys.

I think you can do that with rootkitxperia, but u have to be with .128 firmware
Sent from my E2303 using Tapatalk

I'm with .147 currently. Is there way to downgrade without unlocking bootloader?
Btw my M4 is E2333, should it still work?

Yes you can easily install any firmware using flashtool. It has xperifirm integrated in it so you can download .128 firmware with it and flash it with flashtool.

I want install a rom on My XPERIA T, but will loss the quality of camera on my phone after the unlock?

Unlock Bootloader?

Hi I just bought an S and I'm thinking whether or not I should unlock the bootloader. It's not carrier branded so it's unlockable. I know I lose DRM keys and data. I have an Xperia Play and I unlocked the bootloader on that but I did it using a testpoint method so I kept DRM Keys. I know how to flash roms, kernels etc as well. My question it what exactly does losing DRM keys do I know some apps stop working but is it really that bad? - Thanks
I haven't seen anything. TrackID works after updates.
Thanks, I'm still considering whether I should do it or not? Shall I just go for it?

What happens when I unlock my bootloader?

So, as per title, I'm on stock Lollipop .690, and I'm very tempted to root/flash ROMs etc. But I realised it's a lot easier if my bootloader was unlocked.
Now I've done similar things to HTC/Samsung/LG phones so I know what unlocking bootloader means but I've always read reports that if you unlock an Xperia phone your camera doesn't work or something?
So if I unlock my bootloader, can I still use my camera? Basically, does anything bad happen?
1st off, this is a question so it belongs in the Q&A section.
Any how, when you unlock your bootloader the entirety of you INTERNAL memory gets wiped (any external SD cards do not get wiped). You also lose your DRM keys, these are stored in your TA files so make sure to back them up using the Backup-TA (you need root to do so however, this means you will have to downgrade to 4.4.2 to be able to back up your TA files) tool in the cross device development section. The DRM keys contain things liked noise cancelling algorithms, camera processing algorithms (the camera still works), X-Reality algorithms and other algorithms. What is actually lost when you unlock your bootloader is debated, as some people appear to lose them and some people don't. You also lose your warranty when you unlock your bootloader.

Root questions

Hello,
I am new to this forum and rooting procces, I've read some threads and didn't understand few things.
So, my questions are:
1. Is it possible to root phone without unlocking bootloader and losing DRM keys?
2. If it isn't,is there a way to backup DRM keys and restore them after rooting?
3. If I am able to root without unlocking bootloader will I still get OTA updates and if I do, will OTA update delete my root status?
Sorry if these questions were already asked in other thread, I was searching a bit and couldn't find any of those. Hope you can help me out.
Thank you in advance and have a nice day
1. Yes it is although you do need some time to do it. It's not difficult though.
2. As soon as you root, you can take a ta backup(which requires a few clicks and about 2 minutes of your time).
3. You won't be able to use Ota (even if you are which you most likely won't, it is recommended that you DO NOT use it).

1.-Yes, the method is called "Downgrading". I go back to 4.4.2 (Build number 314) and use the older XZDR (Xperia Z Dual Recovery). It will temporarily root to install the recovery. When the phone reboots you can install a custom ROM or whatever to get Lollipop with Root and Recovery
2.-After rooting on 4.4.2 you can do a backup of the DRM Keys
3.-Just because you have rooted your phone you will no longer be able to get OTA updates for the Android system itself. OTA will show a random error message and PC Companion will refuse because of the modified software.
Ok, thank you for answers
Is there any 6+ Android build that is pre-rooted or is it better to stick with 5.1.1 rooted?
Alo, I've heard that cam quality could drop after rooting or unlocking bootloader, is it true?

Stick with android 5.1.1 for now.
And yes, cam quality WILL DROP, but only after UNLOCKING YOUR BOOTLOADER. Rooting alone won't hurt your cam quality.

Ok, so I was thinking a lot if I should root or not. I decided to root. So just to clarify some things. If I use comunity root with downgrading, will it keep my DRM keys? If yes, I backup TA partition when rooted and then I can proceed with BL unlocking. Can I restore DRM keys to a custom ROM? Do you have any good custom ROM suggestion for me and is it better to use odexed or deodexed ROM?
I saw also saw this thread, hope it works so I won't be losing any camera quality.
That should be all.
Thank you in advance.
Have a nice day .
If you do NOT UNLOCK your bootloader, you wont lose your drm keys. (this is why after rooting using this method you can actually backup your drm keys, which you MUST DO no matter what).
When you restore your drm keys, you actually RELOCK your bootloader, so you must be on a stock based custom rom, and not using a custom kernel, otherwise you will simply brick your device.
Odexed or deodexed rom is purely personal preference, the difference being that deodexed ROMs allow for more customization (which is not necessary though). Regarding this, it doesn't really matter whether it is deodexed or not, so keep this in mind.
I cannot suggest a rom and I would advise against asking which rom is the best, because it is against the forum's rules.

Thank you for answer. If i use this method will it keep my bootloader locked (Will DRM keys stay on phone?).
Look.
Your bootloader cannot be "accidentally" unlocked. You have to get the bootloader unlock code by YOURSELF. A program wont do it on its own.
So don't worry, even if the method you chose to root the device requires an unlocked bootloader, it will be stated since you have to do it manually.
Plus, rooting a device with an unlocked bootloader simply requires installing a custom kernel(which has a recovery too) and then flashing a zip file that will root the phone.

Xperia Z5C Camera Problem / Enable Software Update For Rooted Users

How To Fix Camera Problem Of Z5C?
How To Enable Software Update For Rooted Users?
Hi Friends,
After unlocking bootloader/rooting some of you might be experiencing problems with z5c camera such as Green lines on camera interface, Video freezing, Error in focus etc.... This is a problem with DRM keys associated with z5c bootloader.
According to me this problem happens for those who unlocked their bootloader and re-locked the same for software updates.
The only way that i found to fix this issue is to unlock the re-locked bootloader. As soon as you unlock the bootloader your camera will start working perfectly. By doing the same you will not be able to have official software updates (OTA) from Sony. In order to get software update you no longer need to Re-Lock the bootloader. Install a custom recovery and flash SuperSu. After flashing SuperSu go to its settings and scroll down until you find an option called "Enable Pro" Activate the option (If you want to support the developer of SuperSu please do not hesitate to purchase its pro/donation package from playstore) . This will spoof Sony Update Server and you will start receiving updates. Note: A reboot may be required .
Done
Hope this will resolve your problems.
Feel free to write me if you experience any trouble.
Thank You!

Does this mean they wont be able to receive the latest updates though? How do I get it so I reset it and the camera is fine and they can receive OTA updates?

The only way that i know to fix this issue is by rooting and installing SuperSu Pro. Let the reciever do the same and they might be able to use Camera and Software update without any problem.

Dammit. I need it to be normal so I can sell it haha.
I'll just update it to the latest version, unlock the bootloader and sell it so they have a functioning camera.

I haven't made a backup of ta keys.

Well technically you did come up with a way to fix the camera and OTA updates, just not when you reset the device.

I'm not tracking the flow of this very well.
You're unlocking the bootloader loosing ta partition, not applying DRM fix, then re locking the bootloader and able to use x reality and 23mp features? How? What shows up in the *#*#7378423#*#* menu?

You may have missed a few steps in the root and unlock bootloader process then. You need to apply the DRM fix to obtain features lost in the unlock bootloader process.

Nougat, locked bootloader and DRM hack?

Hi.
Last year I unlocked bootloader and rooted my Z5C before it was possible to backup the TA and now I'm a bit lost in what to do. Yesterday I used Flashtool to install 32.3.A.0.378 but the problem is the DRM is gone. I have a locked bootloader so apps that check for this finally work. Therefore, if possible, I want to stay on locked bootloader a bit if it's possible to put in a DRM hack so camera pictures are nice again.
Is it possible to keep bootloader locked and install AndroPlus kernel? Or is there another way of getting DRM back without unlocking?
Device is not rooted and there's no recovery on it. But it's smooth like hell!
Any suggestions?
No, not possible.
If you want a kernel with drm fix, you have to unlock bootloader
