Hello,
i'm using the latest surnia official build. When i create a new alarm and select "Music" as alarm sound the file browser opens and shows me my albums. But all mp3 files are greyed out and i cant select them. I can play them with the music player. What am i doing wrong?
@Editor: could you please correct the typo in the headline (clocl -> clock). Thanks!
I just found out that i can see and use .ogg files as ringtones. Also the ringtones are not played. Neither when selecting it in the dialog nor when the alarm is supposed to go off.

Hi, I am new to this and I got my Telus HTC Hero on April 6th, 2010 and I rooted and I am using MoDaCo Custom Rom 3.2 Core (this is from my phone info so I know it worked) and I was trying to make a song in .mp3 format into a ringtone and it wont do it. I asked my friend using a Dream unrooted and he said all you have to do is press on hold on the song til a menu pops up and select set as ringtone. This doesnt work so I was wondering if there is another way or if it is possible at all.
Thanks for any assistance.
Download an app called Tone Picker.
best app for making custom ringtones has gotta be ringdroid from the market. its groovy and free. u can cut any audio file u have that plays on ur phone. or vreate ur own ringtone (record one)

custom ringtone and alarm
Sure you can.
* Connect the phone to your computer via the USB cable
* Open the Notifications screen on your phone (pull down a finger from the top of the screen to the bottom) and select the USB Storage notification
* Choose “Mount”
* Browse to the SD Card on your PC
* Look for a folder called media, if it’s not there, create it by right clicking and choosing New Folder, then rename the folder to be media
* Inside the media folder, you need a folder called audio, again, if it’s not there create it as above
* Inside the audio folder, you can create a subfolder for the sound category you want to change-
o ringtones – for sound files you want to use as ringtones
o alarms – for sound files you want to use for any alarms
o notifications – for incoming notifications such as SMS alerts, emails, etc
* Copy the sound or music file which you’d like to use as your ringtone in to the relevant folder
* You should now see your sound or music file listed in the menu for selection in the relevant sound settings menu (to access the ringtone/notification settings, press the hard Menu key from one of your home screens, then press Settings then Sounds and Display)
I am having ringtone problem in alarm in Liquid Metal S120. There is only default ringtones available. I want to use my favorite ringtone in alarm. Please anyone suggest how to choose my favorite ringtone.
Can you use File Explorer (ex. Astro) to select your favorite sound file? If you can, go to your file then press and hold till the menu displayed. Select “set as” then “ringtone”.
I try to help, but I don’t use that model. Hope this help.
Thaks
Thanks for you reply. I am grateful to you, but it seems not working for alarm rings.
You need to either create an alarms folder and put your ringtone into it or copy your ringtone into the existing alarms folder.
Connected to the computer, create a Media \ Audio \ alarms, alarm clock can be set in their favorite ringtones
Its a stupid question! But, how I can change the ringtone in MINICM9?
1. settings
2. sound
3. phone ringtone
Sorry! Double Post.
Ans how can I use my own MP3's?
download a ringtonepicker from the market, standard android doesn't let you choose own mp3's, but with a third-party ringtonepicker it will work.
go to music and long press song or mp3 and set as ringtone. depends on how you access those mp but usually does the trick
Create the folder
sdcard/ringtones for your call ring tones,
sdcard/notifications for your message notifications,
sdcard/alarms for the alarm tones.
Any mp3 you put in these folders will show up in the list for selecting the tones
Ok thanks!
Hello, I have some questions about the ringtones and alarms on ICS.
1. How could I set a mp3 for the alarm tone? I copy a mp3 file to the alarms folder but I can not set it.
2. I want to set a ringtone to a contact when calling, but not for notifications, is this possible?
Thanks and best regards.
1. In the alarm clock you can use the previously added music "on call". How? Read below.
2. Set, you can use any player, which is a function: "set as ringtone" or "use as a phone call."
I think alarm tone is in .ogg format ... !!

Am I missing something here? On my nexus 5, all I had to do was add the tones to the alarms folder on the internal SD card. I've tried that with the moto X and they don't appear in the tones list. I've even tried putting them in the ringtones and notifications folders, no dice, even after reboots.
I've even tried Zedge, and while downloaded tones show up in the ringtones list for the phone app, they're not there in the clock app.
I'm not rooted so I can't add them to the media folder under system. Any thoughts, ideas? And I did search the moto X forums for anything with the word "alarm" in it and didn't see anything.
You can use a media player like Apollo. Long press on the track you want to use as the alarm and make it a ringtone. It'll then appear in the alarm tones list in the clock app.
Just a workaround I've been using ever since my days of running 4.4.4 on my rooted Galaxy S2.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
