Google released a new messenger app, if anyone wants to try it out.
It supports Group MMS.

but does it work w/ wifi calling for group mms?
I hope it works with Wi-Fi calling, but I highly doubt it. I guess I am going to stick with the stock app, I just wished it the stock one was more full featured on the Android Wear similar to hangouts.
It doesn't work with WiFi calling on T-Mobile. No third party apps do as this is a carrier policy. It looks good, but for some reason I was getting double texts from group MMS messages.
Yea I can confirm that as well, unfortunate.
If TMO had full Google Voice integration like Sprint it would be nice that way not only MMS, but you can makw calls and send SMS/MMS from your computer as well. I really miss that.
I'd love to be able to send texts from within hangouts on the PC.
I know there are other apps available, but they're annoying, and most cost money for the 'good' features...

As a former Sprint user this is a big let down, I barely had my phone next to me, all SMS/MMS & calls were via my laptop (using my phone number). Then again Sprint's coverage was so bad lol.
unfortunately
Thank you for the post, I installed it on my Z3 all works fine but I just get my received messages not my sent messages, where it should be my received and sent messages.
Please help if there's a way, see screenshots attached
I get both, did you set it as default messaging app?
Third party applications do not work with T-Mobile's WiFi calling protocol. It's a bit ridiculous at this point, but I had to just return my Z3 before the 14-day period ended. They saw that the stock messaging app didn't support group MMS, and that I also reached out to the developers @ Sony.
They let me return the phone without paying the restocking fee. What a shame. Hopefully Sony comes out with a fix for their stock messaging application...or maybe one day T-Mobile will allow access to the WiFi Calling protocol for third party apps.

Yes, I have made it my default, I don't get the old ones, I just get them both from the time I have installed it upwards,
no GIF support
Hello, I am looking for an app that can actually remove me from a group message so that I do not receive tons of useless texts that end up using my data. Currently I use Google's Messenger as my main texting app, as we all know the stock one is terrible. This app works great and I love it, however when I get flooded with MMS it does not seem to know how to react and then refuses to send any SMS. Now I am also up to download another texting app if someone knows one that handles MMS better, I have tried Textra in the past however I kept recieving a notification that said something about my MMS APN but I never touched anything in Textra's settings to break that because it did work for a while. I am open to other options if someone has any ideas. Thanks
Handcent it's pretty reliable but has ads. I like hoverchat as well.
Need help with finding a messaging app that works the way I want it to. I just recently updated my note 2 to 5.1. My old messenger App allowed me to send a text to multiple recipients without it being a group text. I find group texts to be highly annoying. I have tried about 20 apps on 5.1 and I have found that all of them but the verizon app make it so whenever you send a picture it automatically converts it into a group MMS messenger. On verizon you have to manually change it every time. So my question is if there is a way to send picture messages as solo texts to multiple recepients. Is their an app that will allow me to do that by default.
I have turned off settings such as send as MMS etc. The issue is picture messages are already MMS and therefore that setting does not affect it and it still sends as group.
Please help.
i typically want mine to send out as a group so never checked this on my current sms app.. but right now i'm using Textra. Has all the features I want and is very stable and reliable.
I have been using Go SMS pro to block sms spam using number prefixes (i.e. block anything that starts with +1386), and also to use its private folder functionality. Lately, this app has become very slow in my Samsung S6 with Android 7. I have tested few other apps like Handcent, EvolveSMS, ChompSMS, and Textra; however, I have found that none of them have the said functionality like GO SMS Pro does.
Any suggestions to replace GO SMS Pro is greatly appreciated, which would allow me to filter spam based on number prefixes and also use private folder functionality.
many thanks in advance

found the solution: Zero SMS
I tried almost every single sms app out there and interesting thing is this: zero sms by Go Team does deliver on what I liked about GO SMS, but without the bloatware.
hope this helps....
I've been attempting to use Signal as my default SMS app for the convenience of not switching between two different apps for messages. It mostly works fine, but as the title says, if I send a long SMS that needs to be split into multiple messages, it always fails to send. I'm on US Cellular, if that matters. It doesn't have an issue with this functionality in the default app (Google's Messages) or the other third party SMS app I tend to use, Pulse SMS from Luke Klinker. It also doesn't have any options to convert long SMS to MMS, as some apps do.
Googling for the issue, I was able to find some similar problems for specific model of phones from a few years ago, but that had all appeared to have been reported on and patched at that time.
Is anyone else using Signal on their V30? If so, can you successfully send a long text message?
If anyone has any suggestions or anything, let me know. Otherwise I'll try to report it to the Signal team soon.
