Hey everyone, first time posting here. I'm having some troubles with updating my s4 to the newest update. I'm currently rooted and have TWRP for custom recovery. When I go to update to the newest software, it just fails and puts me into twrp. Do I have to go back to stock using Odin? How do I go about this so I can update and reroot. Noob to Sammy's, was team moto before
Think many times before proceeding. The update will make it impossible to use custom recoveries or ROMs. You may be better served to install Darkslider ROM instead.
That warning and advice aside, if you REALLY want to install the OTA you'll need to ODIN back to stock and proceed from there. But please read the warning above 3 more times and do your research first.

Well, I think I downloaded the wrong rom and flashed the wrong file. Here is what I downloaded and flashed:

For whatever reason, I thought it would work. In my brilliance, I didn't perform a backup. I still have access to TWRP, so what do I do? Also, does 4.3 exist for the Verizon flavor that is Google Play edition?
Thats for the i9505 international version. Theres some 4.3 ports in the dev section. Since you didnt make a backup of stock youll have to odin back to stock and start over. All the odin images are in the dev section as well.

Did you think it would work because of the "guide" on how to run other carrier's ROMs?
And no one else I know is working on Google Edition 4.3. Mine's not done yet and I've been to focused on 4.2.2's build recently. I'll get back to it eventually.
As far as a fix:
Install another ROM. If you are desperate for SOMETHING 4.3, then install cyanogenmod 10.2(either of the 2 unofficial builds)

He said he still has recovery. All he needs to do is install a correct ROM

Thanks gents. The only reason I'm itching for 4.3 is access to Bluetooth LE for my Fitbit. I used Cyanogenmod for a minute on 4.2 and it was amazing, but BT LE brought me back to stock. It lately started doing that Google Services using 70%+ of the battery, so I started hunting for a 4.3 rom.. in the wrong forum. WOOPS.
I'll probably go back stock until I can get 4.3 rom that has everything working.

Easiest way is flash via odin. You will lose root that way. But if you want stock 4.1.2 and keep root then PTMR3 has a rooted stock rom in development thread
If It Aint Fresh Then It Aint Me
Thanks I'll check it out.

Here's a great guide for you to flash back to stock. It's from June of this year and includes the links to the software you will need. Be sure and thank BlownFuze if you use it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42806745&postcount=360

I've been rooting and flashing roms since 2011. I just purchased and rooted my sprint note 3. I then flashed both AOSb and then PAC rom with no problems whatsoever. My rom finger got itchy, and I wanted to flash a new rom so I tried freeza's custom rom. I have the latest twrp recovery installed. I wiped and formatted the phone. Flashed the rom and gapps and got stuck in a boot loop. I then tried kitkatkiller, sacs, and team blazed roms and got stuck in a boot loop with each of those. However I can still flash both AOSB and PACroms and they work fine. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Am i going to have to restore it to stock?

If you want to flash these roms you have to have the 4.4.2 bootloader for them to boot. .. Once you go to 4.4.2 you can't go back to 4.3 ... easiest way is to download the nab tar and use Odin to go to 4.4.2

Uhm, not so sure. I believe that those roms employ the 4.3 MJ4 build.
Once you're on TouchWiz KitKat for our device, there is no going back.

You're showing your n00bness if you're infering micmars is a troll. He's probably the most active on these forums with helping others. Anyway...I digress...Not sure if the AOSP builds will serve as a base to flash TW based ROMS from. I'd HIGHLY encourage you to use one of the NAB tars that are posted...flash it in Odin. Reboot...let it settle, go through setup...verify everything is working. Back into download mode, and Odin the latest TWRP for KitKat. Reboot..verify it's installed correctly...nandroid next as a fallback position. Copy over the 4.4 TW ROM you want to flash, then do so from TWRP. Profit!
Good luck

Tried flashing to stock mj4 thru Odin and what I get at the end is...
Secure check fail modem...
So does this mean I'm already running on the nabd bootloader?

It means your status is custom, and may be that your on the NAB bootloader.
If you never flashed the NAB tar or one-click, then you most likely are not.
Try factory reset of your device, and flash again. But be careful. Only you know what was on your device prior to installing your AOSP rom.
Look in the Q&A forum. There is a post thread by @SantinoInc whom started with AOSP, and was able to get to where you are headed.
As noted, my knowledge of AOSP roms is thin at best. I only know that they began with MJ4.

As I thought I was able to reset my phone using stock 4.4.2 firmware and was able to flash roms from that part. Thanks for the help.
Well, for one, none of the Touchwiz based ROMs need gapps. That's probably your issue.
Hey guys. I just got my hands on a Verizon Note 2 this weekend and have managed to screw it up already. I am coming from the world of unlocked bootloaders with some background in Samsungs shenanigans. Anyway, I think I was on 4.4.2 which is ND7 (I honestly can't remember at this point). I I was able to root and install safestrap eventually. Then comes my stupidity, I forgot that I had to flash a touchwiz rom and flashed another rom and to add injury to insult, I flashed it in the stock slot and not the rom slot. Then I tried to restore my backup and it failed. Now what happens is I can occasionally get into the safestrap recovery and I try to flash Alliance rom and it still doesn't work. I try to boot the stock slot and it gets stuck on the verizon screen. Any help would be appreciated.
Any help? Please?
Can you bring in back to stock with Odin?
I never tried to install a new rom on any Note 2 that was over 4.1.2
