Verizon killed FoxFi today

It wasn't an update. It's something they did outside of the phone. I have system updates disabled
I use the pdanet USB to connect to laptop and then use virtual router manager to turn the laptop in to a WiFi tether and I'm able to connect my tablets and ps4

Yep foxfi is officially dead for wifi tether, not the first time this has happened and I'm sure the foxfi devs are working on it.
Don't know if they will work on it. My wife's htc m8 FoxiFi worked fine till it went to lollipop and that was months ago and till this day it doesn't work. I have a work around but ps4 nat goes to 3. Now kinda wish I got the nexus 6 lol

Man I'm shocked I thought for sure this was the end of FoxiFi. Well at least I have a backup plan if happens again
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
I find restarting the phone then trying again usually gets it to work. I am not sure the reason but after checking "Activate WiFi Hotspot" in FoxFi the prompt to enable hotspot in settings states you have 30 seconds to do which leads me to believe any subsequent attempt to enable hotspot will fail until the phone is restarted. Hope it work for you also!

Trying to help a buddy on his thunderbolt apply this zip file leak to fix the hotspot drop problem
It downloaded as 2.11.605.19.zip
It's supposed to be the fix for the hotspot
But I don't use htc at the moment
I tried to rename it as update.zip and apply as update in recovery but no luck
What's the process I'd anyOne knows about thIs new leak fix
I'm having the same problem with my thunderbolt I put the eternity rom beats edition on and i even downloaded a wifi tether app. it connects but doesn't send or receive packets
I'm just now getting around to looking at tethering my TBolt. Just wondering, does this app/update require Verizon tethering subscription?
If you download and use the wireless tether app it has to be setup properly to work. Under device profile select thunderbolt. Scroll down and select router fix.

Posting just in case someone else searching for a solution runs across this thread:
Seems like solutions for getting wifi tethering to work is all over the place. For me, wifi tethering for root seemed to start, and other devices could see it, but the devices could never connect to the Internet. In my case, switching to open garden solved the issue.
I haven't had any issues with any form of tethering with this phone. I was even able to share my internet from the phone, to a net book, and then to my ps3 via a wifi router. I know a lot of others have been having problems with it though and Im wonder if its possibly a hardware difference between the phones.

Sometimes they use parts manufactured by different people. If someone can make a part cheaper then chances are they'll use it. Especially, when a device has been out for a while or out of production. This happened when I had an Eris. They changed the touchscreen manufacturer and some people started to find in some roms the touchscreen wouldnt work.

If your having problems with the youtube app or having trouble streaming music from a 3rd party app, go to post 14 below. Motcher41 found a post that migh help.
So what does this change? From what I saw online it's to check for OTA updates?
I tried watching some youtube videos on 3G from my house and it actually played after typing it in... I'll have to see if it works in the other places where it usually chokes.

It's driving me nuts ..must be a YouTube problem bc its not a network problem for me
Talked to HTC again about youtube and flash.
Ok after a total of 9 phonecalls to HTC and Sprint trying to get a straight answer about why the youtube app and orb app stopped working, someone at HTC said that abobe has pulled support for flash lite from mobile devices. If you took the last ota update, any app that uses flash will not work now over sprints network.
Still works in the browser over sprints network but not near as good as using the app and for what ever reason, the apps work fine over wi-fi.
Question. Isn't the app still using Flash Lite even over wi-fi? Why does it work over wi-fi and not sprint?

I entered it into the dialer and this time it did not work. It did work while I was on the phone with HTC the first time I used it. I could not use youtube before I entered it and then tried youtube after I entered it and was able to use the youtube app.
I just tried the youtube app over wi-fi and it worked, turned off wi-fi got back on sprint and connection to server failed shows up in the screen when I try youtube.
Guess I should have waited to post what I thought was a fix but it did work when I first tried it so I shared it.
I'm getting a "Connection to sever lost Touch to retry" error.

Finally, after a month of this nonsense my youtube will work over 3g. What a ****ing joke that Sprint goofed this up and isnt even aware of what they've done.
For some reason today my Whatapp messenger has stopped working on 3G, it wont send or receive messages. (It was working fine before)
It is still working fine over Wi-Fi though.
I haven't changed anything today, or received any update.
Has anyone else experienced this problem today? I'm in the UK on the 3 network.
Any ideas what could be causing it?
Everything else still works fine.

That's called block by your provider.
You can easily test it by using a vpn and checking if it works then.

Has anyone done this or is it even possible? I've tried using the Wifi tether app, Foxfi and Open Garden but no luck at all. I have a Trendnet gaming adapter N wireless. The wifi device does not connect to my phone no matter what I try to do, it shows on the PC setup showing my phone but no luck. Only Open Garden was able to detect it but no data was pass to the adapter. Im rooted running the Adreneline CM9 rom. I have no trouble connecting other devices to my phone as a Wifi Hotspot. Reasons for the adapter, have some devices that have slow wifi cards (PS3 is my main reason) so this should speed things up gradually.
Any help would be appreciate it. Had no luck in Googling unless I did something wrong.

Did all that and no go. The WiFi tether app is not showing the adapter at all. Dont understand why not.

I've just confirmed this work. I rooted my phone about an hour ago but im pretty sure that wont make a difference. I love how it actually turns on the Verizon hotspot too lol now i wonder how long it will take for them to notice this? Hummm
I was using the sqlite edit with my bionic and tethering for over a year, no problems. But then again I only use about 8gb a month which isn't much compared to some people on here.
The best app that I've ever used was PDANet. It has a Bluetooth net access recently added (using it right now) the license is worth it for a laptop and tablet. I had it on my original Motorola DROID and I would use it with my laptop all the time in places without wifi and I would drive people nuts! Best part is, NO ROOT REQUIRED! Verizon doesn't block it (or can't) so no worries there and I think with wifi hotspot enabled you can have up to 10 devices using it. The directions are simple to follow, however, I did have some trouble locating PDATablet for use on my tablet, but found it on another android forum. Now they have it on the play store.
I'd post a link but, I've been a longtime listener but a first time caller!

Guys there is no reason to use a third party app. Just create a widget to start tethering, or download "portable wifi hotspot", all it does is activate the stock hotspot without the subscription check.
I really like the settings that wifitether had, especially subnet. If you know of a way to modify the subnet on the built in hotspot, then I am one step closer to replacing wifitether

hi - I get you can tether right off the phone- however Windows 7 sees the tether natively as a local IP connection :good: but it's frozen as in I can not access the properties it pulls a 92 address with a gateway but I can not ping it and it does not connect to internet- do i need a tether program still on the PC side?
