SIM/Carrier unlock help needed! - HTC Desire 601

Ok so I'm trying to setup the HTC Desire 601 (Alltel) for my mother on Straight Talk. I was told that in order to get it on ST, I need to SIM unlock the phone. I tried inserting a T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, AND even a Sprint SIM card and I can never get the SIM unlock menu to come up. I already have the code, the phone is S-OFF thanks to Sunshine. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
I've already spent money on the unlock code, Sunshine, and the Straight Talk kit so if there is a free way to do this, that would be awesome! Thanks everyone for your help!

Is the phone running the stock rom or a custom one? The unlock screen will normally not show on a custom rom.
Otherwise with s-off you can probably sim-unlock using the SIEEMPI method:
https://www.sieempi.ro/blog/2011/09/22/universal-sim-unlock-for-s-offed-htc-devices-536
Btw rumrunner s-off works fine on the desire 601 and cost nothing (I know its to late)

It is running stock unrooted. Thank you so much for the SIEEMPI link! Wish I would have researched rumrunner lol. Oh well, jcase is a great Dev and deserves the donation. Thanks again for the link, and I'll post back with my results later.

Yep let me know, if its not working with the config.dat file on your sd card there is another method to do it using an Y-USB OTG cable with a external hard drive.

Well on the first try it said "sd init fail" so I put the file on an sdcard and tried again. It said everything was a success except for reading some other files, but then it said it passed. However, after rebooting it looks like I'm still network locked to Alltel. I ran an IMEI check to make sure the phone isn't reported as lost/stolen and it came back clean so I don't know what's going on. The only SIM card I have tried after trying to unlock though was the T-Mobile SIM card that came with the Straight Talk kit. I'm wondering if that would even work though since this is a CDMA device?
Code:
SD init OK
Reading config.dat files [37]Bytes
Read MCCMNC file success
Open CID file fail
Open IMEI file fail
Open atsdeb file fail
Open SF file fail
Open NAME file fail
Get device IMEI success
IMEI checking ...PASS!
Process done, reboot device?
^^ That's what it shows after I select "SIMLOCK" from the HBoot menu.
I wonder if the phone also has to be rooted?

Root doesn't matter, the OS is not even booted when in bootloader so how root would change something
So your phone is CDMA.... I'm not sure it will work on CDMA phones, I'm confident it should work on GSM devices (model ending with U or UL).
Everything you are seeing on your phone is normal btw. Should look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

You might want to try the other method using an external drive like described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53590360&postcount=606
But again looks like everything worked fine in your case. That might only be caused by your phone being a CDMA variant...

Just tested; works with a different SIM. Mine is UL though.

Yeah I think I'm just going to give up on it and cut my losses. I'll just buy her a different phone. I've bought enough for that phone and don't really want to buy an OTG cable.

Walmart had a pre-black friday sale where they had a Straight Talk LG Sunset for $24 (normally $100) so I just got her that. Thanks for all the help though guys!

Actually once you are s off, reboot bootloader and type the following.
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
---------- Post added at 03:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:59 AM ----------
This is called supercid, your phone now does not identify one particular network as home. In essence, your phone is simunlocked until you change this.

Straight from HTCDev.com , & NOTE : THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY
You are about to start the process of unlocking your device. Unlocking your device allows you to install custom Operating Systems (“OS”) onto your device. Custom OS’s are not tested as thoroughly as your original OS, and unlocking your device may void all or parts of your warranty. HTC disclaims any and all liability for proper functioning of your device after the bootloader has been unlocked and for data lost in the unlocking process. To prevent unauthorized access to your data, unlocking the bootloader will delete all personal data from your device including applications, text messages and personalized settings.

Why would HTC patch this? Isn't it their process? They even have a warning saying you are voiding your warranty.
Don't let that stop you from Dev'ing here though... I plan on having this phone.
HTC released this method on HTCDev.com/BootLoader , they give all right's to unlock your bootloader . It won't get patched bro & once we get root yaya !

I think you might be a compulsive liar after reading this as well as all the other crap you're posting around here. Just saying, no need to lie to people you don't even know.

I returned the phone to my local PD , what are you talking about i purchased it at a local chinese store , it had the box but they kept the box for $499 it's clean literally brand new . I was going to pay that price in a few week's . , & i have no eason to lie so just stop it now .

Unlocking the bootloader through HTC does not give you S=Off, I had the same issue when I unlocked my sensation using this method. You need S=Off to have write permissions to install a custom recovery image or ROM's.
Typical HTC BS, I far as I concerned, once you have acknowledged the warning about voiding warranty, you have accepted the risk and they phone should be fully unlocked and not the partial one they are giving you.
The whole HTC bootloader unlock method is NOT what you think it is and is very misleading as far as I am concerned.

FLASH AT OWN RISK, i take no responsibility if your device is not working afterwards, as I'm a n00b and not a developer.
How to flash:
1. download zip file
2. rename to PG09IMG.zip
3. put file on sdcard root folder
4. boot into recovery
5. when asked to update use the VOL + for YES and VOL - for NO
6. once complete device will reboot and device will be updated
- Feel free to use and abuse ROM as as you feel like it
Good Luck and Enjoy!

This is just a new version of the ROM from ROGERS so that means it still has bloat ware on it not from AT&T but from ROGERS so IMHO i wouldn't bother.
i put it up here so maybe some dev can take it apart and make some thing useful out of it.
PS< this ROM can be flashed on a NON-ROOTED jetstream as it is a official ROM, just not sure you'd want to if you're not with ROGERS.
Good Luck!

First i put the downloaded file on a external sd card, renamed it to PG09IMG.zip, booted into recovery, on the screen i saw a column moving, checking the file.
after a while when it was done, i selected the recovery menu, i got i icon with a phone and a exclamation mark, and after a while it rebooted.
Then i tried to flash it throu fastboot,
in fastboot mode, i typed:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip PG09IMG.zip
after some checking i got FAILED (remote: 42 custom id check fail)
so i assume that there is some check if i have a jetstream from at&t or rogers.

not 100% sure but do you have S-OFF?
also another thing i noticed different is how it reacted to your jetstream, on mine, i copied the ROM to the ext sd card in the root folder and then i booted into recovery it did a whole bunch of checks and then it asked me if i wanted to upgrade or not. So not sure why you had to go into the recovery menu. maybe try having your jetstream on fastboot and try it again.
Hope it works! Good Luck!

i don't have s-off
when i had the rom on my ext sd card it did the checks like it did on your's but i didn't get the update prompt, i even tried to use a gold card.
so i don't think at&t wants us to update the rom, i think i'll have to wait till we get unlocked bootloader or when we get root.
Your jetstream is at&t so you can't flash rogers rom
I have done all the above mention methods and by using goldcard.

Worked for me as far as I can tell. My device says S-ON but above that says 'UNLOCKED' and I was able to flash the CWR 5 recovery image and use that as posted earlier in this thread.
The worst nightmare was getting my computer to recognize the phone. I had recently put a new hard drive in my computer, and HTC Sync etc would NOT work. I tried TWO other computers and still would not work. Finally had to dig up the old hard drive, put it back in my first computer (since I had used that successfully to update my Slide in the first place to Froyo 2.2) and do all the steps.
Still can't explain what the problem was, since the new hard drive is the same base OS (Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit) but at least it worked. And now this phone has some life again (despite a failure to replace a cracked digitizer)
Recovery problem
i installed clockwork recovery image thought it was work when i tried to install superuser i noticed clockwork recovery was not working when i pick any thing from the menu like install for sd it doesn't do anything. please help.

Worked for me as far as I can tell. My device says S-ON but above that says 'UNLOCKED' and I was able to flash the CWR 5 recovery image and use that as posted earlier in this thread.

Uninstall HTC sync, download pdanet, install it, plug your phone in , let it load all the drivers, uninstall pdanet. Go about your business. This worked for me, as far as drivers.

I still cannot s-off I am netting error code 155 through the ruu wizard?
You can't S-OFF with the new bootloaders. But at least with your bootloader unlocked, you can do some of the things an S-OFF'd phone can (like flashing CWM Recovery and r/w in /system/), so it's still fairly useful.

[Q] Stuck in bootloader. Need Help

Update 2: My phone is now S-Off and running ICS. It's awesome! Thanks everybody.
Update 1: So I unlocked the bootloader using the all-in-one tool and suddenly the phone boots up fine.
My phone was S-On, bootloader unlocked and running Bulletproof 2.5 and 4EXT recovery.
I used the All-in-One tool to flash stock recovery and relocked the bootloader. Afterward my phone is stuck in the fastboot/hboot screen no matter what I try. I tried flashing the Wind Mobile RUU (GB) after renaming it to PH85IMG.zip yet that doesn't solve the problem. Any advice?
This is what appears in the screen:

Unplug your device from desktop and let the ph85img flash.
Make sure ".zip" is a file extension, and not in the actual name also

Should I flash stock kernal with the all in one tool?
No. Kernel didoesn't have anything to do with this. Which ROM are you using?
Stuck in Bootloader = phone goes to bootlader automatically? Or what?

I was coming from Xborder's Bulletproof 2.5.0. The phone goes straight to Fastboot (picture 1). I wasn't flashing the ICS RUU, just the GB RUU.
I'm gonna go ahead and bet you have this on the INTERNAL sd card(/sdcard) not on the external sdcard(/sdcard/extsd)
It looks on the microsd card you have in the phone, not the built in storage.. move the file to extsd and boot into bootloader and it will work.

The file is on the external sd card. I dl the RUU to my desktop then transferred it to the external sd card with a card reader.

It is a zip file, open it with a program like 7zip and see what is inside of it, it should have files like radio.img, rcdata.img, boot_signed.img, system.img, etc.
If for some reason it doesn't upzip with an unzip program(i verified it works with 7zip), or those files aren't there, that may be your issue(redownload the file again, rename, move to extsd, try again).
Double check that the file is both named right (ph85img.zip I believe, and follow the instructions exactly, it IS case sensitive) and on the external card - it saying there is no image means either the file is named wrong, or in the wrong place, or the files it is looking for inside the zip aren't there.. either you got a bad download or just some step is a little off.
AND MAKE SURE U DOWNLOADED THE RUU FROM A CREDIBLE SOURCE.
I used Hasoon2000's mirror in football's newer release thread, because a dropbox mirror gave me a corrupt file that wouldn't flash right.
Redownload ruu and try again?

I'd thank you, but apparently I hit my limit.. this happens fairly often, files corrupt on upload or download.. I usually only download things with a md5 to check against, but many of these files we use here don't have one

Thanks for the info. I'm S-ON so I can't flash Hasoon's T Mobile ICS RUU. Both of his files http://d-h.st/users/hasoon2000 are T-Mo ICS RUU. I'm looking for Wind GB RUU.

So I unlocked the bootloader again and suddenly the phone boots up fine. I will try to get S-off so I wont have to relock the bootloader again.... Thanks everyone for your help.
I had the same issue too after I went back to stock recovery and relocked the bootloader. I tried to unlock the bootloader again to see if that woudl work but it ended up wiping my phone back to factory... there goes my root...

Whether or not I plug the USB and follow the HTC's Instruction, I can never get to unlock the bootloader and I so really need to root my phone
It's really simple if you follow HTCs instructions.
Make sure when u copy unlock token, you are copying only necessary characters.

Even If I follow that, when I reach the CMD prompt part, my it will show the " Waiting for device" dialog, and my phone's USB debugging is active and my phone is on, the hasoon2000's pattern of doing this always restart my phone and boot into the HBOOT section which is locked and I can never get to unlock it.

How Do I Relock After Failed Root Attempt Using RegawMOD

1st let me say I hope this is the right form to ask this program nor I am not complaining about the developers work my issue is I ran the program (RegawMOD) 3 times with no success, fortunately i haven't bricked my phone yet, but when i re-ran it it shows my phone is unlocked but i haven't acheieved root. What are the steps to relocking the regawMOD until an updated has been released. It was my fault for not reading the entire thread before attempting a root that was not designed for my update. Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.
:highfive:
BTW posted this note within the thread i downloaded the quick root from but i figured it better to come here just also, thanks again.
Your unlocked, Regawmod did what it should have.
Fastboot flash a recovery and you're golden.
Since you rook the OTA Regaw couldn't do it all for you

Thanks, just for clarification for me since i am kinda slow
I thought i needed to see the SU app notification to be rooted. Since I didn't see it after i got the "pushing error" i thought it wasn't fully rooted just unlocked. But if all i have to do is download a recovery without SU and it gives me ability to flash i will do that. Thanks again
PSS; I just attempt to run titanium backup and it tells me i don't have root... ???

Since you took ota, regaws method did not give you root. The previous post mentioned getting a recovery so you can then in turn push SU or flash a rom with SU built in.

I wasn't on the ota and had the same problem. All I had to do from that point was download supersu. The binary was already on my phone as well as Twrp. Then installed busybox.

The previous poster has got it...install SuperSU and Busybox from the market. Open SuperSU app and update binaries. If that still doesn't work, try rootchecker to see if you really have root access. Check this thread:

I did all that was suggested and it seems as though I don't have root access just an unlocked phone. Next question how can i relock regawmod and use a different rooting method, or restore to orginal lock status? I know this is a bit much to ask, but i lost here. My orginal Evo root and flashed like crazy with no issues now i am in no mans land it seems with rooting status on 4g lte

If your bootloader is already unlocked, no reason to re lock it...you're halfway there. What software version are you on? Have you checked out zedomax's method for gaining root access?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577
Do you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP)? If so, you should be able to flash a stock ROM that already has root.

Regaw was going to work on his unlocker today to update it for the new OTA.
Now that you are unlocked there is absolutely no reason to re-lock it. I will tell you how to do it though:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yS7yy4XVA4
The smart way to go from here:
All you need to do is setup fastboot on your computer, reboot your phone into fast boot, and push the recovery.img manually.
For step by step instructions check here

Ok I did a little picture tutorial. Sorry they are so small I can re-upload
Here is an example of my "android" folder. Note its named platform tools here because I was meddling in development for a while. The title of the folder doesnt matter. You just need fastboot.exe and your recovery.img in the same folder.
Note, I do not have the recovery in my folder. You will need it. I also have a lot of crap in there you probably wont have
Shift+right click somewhere near the bottom where there's white space and select open command line.

After that all you need to do is enter the correct command to flash. Note: You can copy and paste the correct code.
Keep in mine my "android" folder is named differently, so the words in my command prompt may look different. As long as you use the Shift+right click method to open the command prompt you will be in the correct folder

That mini-sdk will be everything you need to run fastboot. Really all you need to do is download TWRP, extract the recovery.img, place it in the folder with the rest of the tools, shift right click , open command window there, and then enter the command above
