External speaker sounds muffled - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, just picked up a tmobile v10 today. The first thing i noticed is that the speaker is, well, pretty bad, it some things sound pretty good, but its like, if theres any bass at all, it gets distorted and muffled, like if you try to talk with your hand over your mouth. Thats the only way i know to explain it. So, is it just mine? Or are they all like this?
Thanks for any feedback.

Was this a dumb question or.....

The stock speaker is very port relative to the last three devices I have owned. Its a pretty common complaint in the various user reviews. Some don't mind it...
Non rooted help...turn OFF noise reduction in call settings, and enable voice clarity.
Rooted solutionflash dolby atmos v6.5, choose the voice option, , enable dialogue enhancer and volume leveler.
Viper4android also works with more tweaks..but dolby atmos is the fastest, easier volume boost. Viper4android is better for Bluetooth and headphone control.
If you use dolby for your speaker, make sure to turn it OFF, when using your headphones and the HIFi DAC or it will sound pretty bad...of course my taste, others may disagree.
Your miles may vary. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Its not really that it doesnt get loud enough, it just sounds like crap sometimes

Why such a bad phone speaker?

Okay, I'm on Liberated 2.2.2 because I can only hear phone calls after school with that ROM! (Using the hearing option default)
And I can never hear anybody on CM7....anybody know any apps or mods to modify that? DSP Manager only works for the outside speaker, and the 3.5mm jack.
i have noticed that even though the speaker is not all that loud, it is clear, so if you listen close enough i have found that even n a loud room you can hear what they are saying.
NOW that being said i wish there was a way to make it louder too. :/

make xperia s louder???

hi guys i find the xperia s volume low even at max when i listen to music on the headphones. i have installed many different apps such as volume+ to make it louder and have the dre beats file also installed but it still isnt loud enough for me. i have also flashed the AC!D files but i am still not satisfied. i love volume to be extremely loud on headphones to the point where your ears hurt a bit. so if there are any files you guys can recommend that i can flash or whatever to make the headphone volume super loud that would be awesome! thanks in advance
Loudspeaker on this particular device is apparently low than any other. Me myself faced the problem after i purchased it. U really cant do much with it coz apps/mods can only tweak the hardware to it's highest potential. If so, u might need to open it up and change the speaker. Now will u do that? .. Guess not. Btw, try using stock apps before u try any mod like AC!D or so and if can, do buy the sony smart headset. I bought one and its extremely loud with clear bass and sound. Music turns awesome in this pair of headset =)

You realize you only get one pair of ears and you'll have to spend the rest of your life with them? How about turning the volume a little less high but being able to enjoy it longer. I understand where you're coming from, I used to be 16 as well. But if you ever get permanent tinnitus, you'll curse yourself thinking about stuff like this.
But being the helpful guy I am: are you using proper headphones? With my headphones I can easily hurt my ears with the volume on maximum. Either you're using headphones with a low output or you've already damaged your ears. Don't use the stock headphones because those always are rubbish. I use Philips earplugs but in-ear earplugs might go louder. Good sound quality costs a bit. You can also use the stock equalizer to bump the audio volume a bit, just put all the sliders on top.
AC!D will work the opposite of what you want, it'll make the sound less loud but with higher quality. At least that's what I've read about it. Personally I think the Xperia S has the best sound of any smartphone/mp3 player/discman I've ever used without messing with mods, just the equalizer. The call volume on the ear speaker is too low though, not usable in loud environments. Putting the phone in just the right way above your ear helps, but I often have to move to a quieter spot.
Answer
open with root explorer system/build.prop and find phase not sure exactly but like this "ULP low power audio ........." and just after that down you will see that this option is set to =1 it means its enabled so set it for =0 and you will have some better/louder sound and even with AC!D and all when this stay ON it just block all other i find it on my Xperia U on ICS and i think that you have this in build too, heheh HIT THANKS IF I HELP YOU

The sound is absolutely fine for me with a pair of Trinity Delta V II earphones.
You're not going to get a great sound with just the phone speaker but that's simply because it is a phone speaker... even on high end devices like my old HTC M9 I thought the sound out of the speakers was tinny.

With the phone speaker, have a try ! I have a very nice sound with my old NOTES3. So i don't know what to do with that phone. Because i use a lot the phone speaker (GPS, Ringtones...).
Thanks for your response.

Earphone sound is fine for me, much better than Nexus 5 in fact. The internal speaker isn't that good but use app's equalizer to improve it.

As I said, its a phone speaker with a tiny, not well tuned driver... what do you expect? Even in high end devices the phone speakers are rubbish and have absolutely no bottom end because they're trying to run all frequencies off of 1 tiny driver. The volume aspect on the P9000 is plenty loud enough for me.
Are you using the GPS in a car? If so just hook it up to your car speaker system, either by Bluetooth or auxiliary cable.
one of the first negatives i had of this phone was the very thin audio, its almost forced beyond its speaker.
coming from a Huawei media pad x2 which is superior with all the bell and whistles i should of known better.
i suppose its only a 200 euro phone and you get what you pay for sadly.

I wouldnt say that, my Umi Zero is way cheaper but the sound of it is genious.
I guess it is the fault of "bad" drivers, like mentioned before. Wait for a costum Rom i guess ))

not just the sound , it needs a lot of issues ironed out.
hopefully they are mostly software related .

Sorry, when I said drivers I meant the speaker cone, I'm a sound and lighting engineer for nightclubs and we refer to the speaker cones as drivers.
One hint: in sound options there is the possibility to disable loudness. This helps a little bit, but sound is still not good. But its a phone speaker..
Flat sound no Level
Sound is still really flat, like the beginning of the stereo in 1980 !!!
Well I find the sound ok through the speaker (only one not two like it is made to look like!) but of course I listen to music through headphones and mine sounded fine with with ear buds or over ear Bluetooth ones. Also ran it through my Bluetooth speaker fine as well as my bluetooth connection to the HiFI.
If anything it is a little loud and bright but as people say it is a very small speaker
I had the same problem... Bad sound out of the speakerds... A lot of distortion... I found the solution... The phone comes with an audio booster activated out of the box... Just turn it off .. Got a booster for earphones too... Just deactivate it... Go to setting then sound and then at the bottom select the last option... Audio improvements or something like that. Regards.

Headphone jack Loudness

every galaxy s model is always an excellent phone, but every year i have the same complaint with the headphone loudness. The headphones that come with it are great and i know they could handle more power. Anyone tried any non root way to increase the sound?
you need it louder? I have mine down one to two clicks from the bottom and it's almost too loud for me sometimes. I am around loud cars and trucks all day (I own both) but I guess my hearing is better than I thought lol.
unless you want a stronger sound and more power to the headphones for a cleaner richer sound, you'll need an external dac for that. I've never seen a phone capable of coming close to an external DAC (just look at their size, they wouldn't fit in a phone and be realistic.)

Xiaomi Type C Noise Cancellation Headset

Will this headset works with our device?
40$ for ANC headset seems cheap
https://www.gearbest.com/earbud-headphones/pp_636900.html
Any info..!
It works with RR ROM (I haven't tested with other ROMs), but it isn't recognized as a headset, so you can listen to music, but you can't use it for phone calls.
If anybody knows a workaround to get it to work, it would be great.
What about noice cancellation? Is it working? Thats what make this headset different..!
ANC is a functionality that is provided by the headset, not the phone. To answer your question, yes it works. I have no comparable headphones, but it works quite great when I use the bus or train.
I see some reviews saying ANC is working only from mi music app thats why I asked whether its working in our phone or not.
How are you turning on ANC from headset? Is there a key for that?
There is a little switch placed on the remote. When it's activated, a tiny blue led lights up.
ANC isn't restricted to an application. You can plug in the earphone, activate ANC and it works, without opening an app, or play music.
Good..Thank you..!

I'm thinking of buying one. Did it work out for you? I'm using Lineage OS also, have you tried on a custom ROM as well? Thanks!!!
I am thinking of getting one too but I want an assurance that it would work when I get it. Also, I read reviews online about the sound quality but am still quite sceptical about the sound. So if anyone has tested it out and tried few eq's on them such as Viper4Android, please your opinion would be very useful. Thank u.
I finally got one for my leeco le max 2!!!!! It's good but my equalizer (Viper4Android) doesn't work for it and that's a little disappointing. But with apps such as Poweramp you can get better sound quality. I can say the headphones sounds better than the stock cdla headphones and yes the anc(active noise cancellation) works!!!. Drains a little more battery but I guess it functions like cdla(I mean similar power consumption)... In my own review it's quite good.
Same problem here with viperfx, I think it's because the earphones aren't recognized as usb input. Randomly DolbyAtmos workes for me as an equalizer, but not all the time and I don't know what affects this.

Well audio clarity is most definitely obvious on the Xiaomi noise cancelling earbuds also durability in terms of the cable is quite good ANC(active noise cancellation is not as great as I hoped especially when compared to a different pair of ANC earbud i used to have in about the same price range) however the sound in general that is, the bass especially the bass, the mid and highs are ok on the cdla earphones, but durability is terrible. MY cdla earphones cord ripped to shreds that's how bad the cables are.
BAD NEWS: My Xiaomi earbuds fell on the floor and the left ear just died(only very faint sound could be heard) but the right ears were okay, so am not so sure of its durability. And I just recently got the earbuds
