Just rooted my wife's of1 and looking for a basic ROM to install so I can have the WiFi tether available.
Its been a while since I've been on here and not fimiliar with what to use and what not.
My phone has safestrap and 4.4 still.
From what I've read safestrap can't be used on of1....
Thanks

You need to install flashfire cant find with aptoide, then download the stanglitre rom for non mdk and use the instructions for flashed with flasfire, is the only rom i find for this firmware.

Stang5litre is a great ROM, as said by jesuskaoz. It is a debloated stock with better performance and battery life. I didn't check the wifi tether though.
If you want to have some more fun, Albe95's S6 port is pretty good, it's what I'm running now. It's performance is great, and its cool to have all of the S6 features, but battery life isn't as good as stang5litre. It has working wifi tether. But be careful when you install it; I had two bootloops trying to. To install it you must flash OC1 kernel and follow the OF1 Bootloader instructions. Hope I helped and have fun with a new ROM!

Well I went with the stock rooted ROM and flashed it per instructions while I was on of1 and I am soft bricked. It just sits at the s4 screen then after a few mins it reboots and does the same thing. Not sure what I did wrong but I'm trying to find a stable net connection to download the tar which is 2.4 gb

No... As long as he's on stock ROM you can flash OC1 kernel no problem. That's how OF1 people obtain root in the first place.

Well I flashed again and got a system not responding error and all I could do is pull down the notification bar. So I'm guessing that flashfire is the issue or I got a bad download of the ROM.
Downloading from a different mirror now and flashing tar again....

I literally had the same problem as you. Tried to flash of1 rooted and got boot loop.
If you have some time, the easiest solution to your problem is to flash stock, re root, and start all over again. Like I said, it takes some time, but it's an easy process.

This is what worked for me:
-Root
-STAY on OC1 kernel
-Flash Albe's s6 port
Should boot in 10-15 minutes
I don't remember what kernel I was on when I flashed stang's ROM
Good luck I'll check in again tomorrow.

I don't believe they have a website. I would go to the Flashfire thread, join the beta group, download the app Direct from the play store.
When I flashed muniz_ri's rooted OF1 DeOdexed rom, I was on OF1 with OF1 kernel, though I believe it flashes modem, non-hlos, and kernel anyways

I'm going to mess with it again tonight and see what I get and will report back.
Thanks for the help
So I just tried it again and as soon as I hit the bolt to start the screen goes all black and hasn't turned back on. Is it flashing? Do I leave it like that?
I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.
So I walked away from it and came back and it's on. How do I know if it flashed? All apps are still there and nothing has changed.
Edit...
I flashed the tether hack and it did the same thing rebooted and still no tether. So nothing is being flashed.
Edit again...
Forgot to install SuperSU so it actually flashed the ROM but wouldn't load. Got stuck on a black screen for about 10mins. Back to sq 1 again
Finally got the damn thing on her phone. I was flashing the wrong kernal after rooting. Left the oc1 kernal on the phone then flashed and it went through fine.
Thanks for all the help.

If you odin using the full wipe or no-wipe NC5 tars your will be back to complete stock. You could then downgrade, root and install safestrap, then if you wanted to you could upgrade to 4.4.2 with root and install custom roms.

Hmmm well if you look at a flashable kernal, it makes cahnges to /system/lib/modules/
Since this is under system you SHOULD be able to reflash surges NC5 rooted rom.
I answered this in the other thread where this was asked. (Which has a zip with the NC5 kernel modules.)
OP, there is no reason to post multiple threads about a question.

Well since the kernal is under /system and when you install a rom it usually formats system then installs everything. Those bad kernal files would get replaced after re-flashing without losing data.

This is a recovery flashable, stock boot.img, pulled from freeza's stock rooted rom, located here. It's completely unchanged from stock, I just made it flashable. After flashing, You may, or may not have to modify your build.prop to set secure storage to "false." See freeza's thread here, for more info on this.
Use this at your own risk, I assume no responsibility.

Numerous, for example, it will allow you to return to the stock kernel, for troubleshooting purposes, if you expect an incompatibility, or issue with a custom kernel, without having to flash an entire stock rooted rom, or downloading an entire rom, just for the boot image.
By the way I want to thank you for this its a blessing we have ppl who do this for us with that said im a noob should I flash this I have the nh7 modem I flashed the nh7 stockish rom then I restored my backup for sacs moar rom

Can you provide more info. If you were in a bootloop, how did you set the file to false? Did you flash the fix, in freeza's OP? If so, that's likely the problem. That build.prop is for a previous version.
I did flash the fix. How else can I get the new modem flashed without bootlooping? My modem/baseband is NH7. Just can get the NH7 stock kernel on without looping

That's the problem. That fix is fo MJ4. Also, what rom are you on? I'm not sure if the NH7 kernel, is compatible with NC5 roms. I know for a fact, NC5 kernels, are incompatible with NH7 roms (no display).
Your best bet is to Odin the NC7 tar, if you want all NC7, or Odin NC7, and restore your TWRP backup, of your previous rom. Your baseband, will be NH7, but your kernel will be whatever was included in your previous/preferred rom.
I'm on sacs rom. My baseband/modem is currently NH7 and have no problems

Well I would love to but there is this little thing called a locked bootloader that prevents that
Ive been using this for about a week due to bluetooth being flaky on CM11. Bluetooth works awesome, but my battery life has greatly suffered. I would sleep would 30% battery and wake up with battery dead. where as with CM11 I would wake up around 10-20%. any ideas?

Since your on MDK try flashing Adam v2.3 kernel or AEL v4.6. Just remember to flash Loki zip after installing kernel. I've had really good battery life with both kernels. Haven't tried this build yet but its still 4.4.2 based.

That is odd. Did you check wakelocks to see if you have a particular app or process that is eating up your battery?
Just noticed you said you've been using this a week. It's only released two days ago. Are you talking about another ROM?
Super stable, fast and perfect. Sometimes a bone stock rom with root access really is the best thing.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Where can I find the instructions on how to install it? I'm currently on I545VRUFNC5 with root and safestrap 3.72. Can I upgrade to NK1 directly without wiping my data? I upgraded from NC2 to NC5 root this way and had great experience. I hope I can do it again on upgrading to NK1. Xda-developers rocks!
Just curious - what's the benefit to using this? I mean, I am genuinely curious what the draw is. If you are lucky enough to have one of the MDK S4 phones, then why use a stock/Verizon rom?
I might flash it, just want to know what the advantages are. One person said "it's nice to get back to a Verizon ROM" but all the Verizon ROMs I've had have been awful.
Thanks for the ROM jrkruse.....
I wanted to know if there was a preferred modem to use with this ROM. I am on MDK and currently using the MJ7 modem.

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to flash my Verizon S4 i545 for the first time. I have the NK1 Build on it. So far, I've rooted it with towel root and have safestrap 3.75 installed.
From doing my research it seems that having the NK1 build prevents me from flashing some roms such as CM11. All I really want from my s4 (had it since launch) is to have the best performance and battery life possible. I'm not looking to do anything fancy beyond that. From some online reading, it seems Hyperdrive might be the best rom for my needs.
How can I go about installing the Hyperdrive rom? (which version should I look out for considering I have NK1)
What precautions should I take before attempting to install?
What other custom roms can I install onto my S4 NK1 build?
Thank you in advance!
I hace the same thing, and muy SE is enforcing. I dont know if that is important.

Honestly, you should downgrade back to nc5 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 You won't be able to install any CM or AOSP rom since you're not on mdk. Hyperdrive is a good rom. Echoerom and Eclipse are solid as well. They're also based on nc5 and you'll likely not have too many problems if you downgrade back.

So would it be an accurate statement that at this point in time, unless someone just wants a stock rooted nk1, there's really no point in rooting an nk1 because you just need to downgrade to nc5 anyway, and then re-root again, in order to flash any custom roms; And you do not need root to downgrade via Odin, correct?

For me it's just preference. Most roms are nc5 based. There are modules and fixes out for those on nk1, but for me, I have always had issues with it. Downgrading to nc5 eliminated the problems. You still need to flash modules and wifi fixes, but I find it to be far more stable. No, you don't need to be rooted to use Odin. If you do plan on downgrading, I would suggest the full wipe. Some have experienced issues with the non wipe. Hope all this helps.

Do the full wipe nc5, it should take care of it. The non wipe is hit or miss when it comes to problems.

We can't flash cm or any aosp roms. Our phones are locked down. There might be 1 or 2 GPE roms that will work with some tweaking. Other than that, we are stuck with TW based roms

Yeah i noticed that lol, at least i've been learning a lot of things about how to flash, odin, the bootloaer, the roms, firmware etc. I managed to install hyperrom's last version and it's pretty decent. Fcuk Verizon btw
You can use SuperNexus ROM. It works with safestrap. You can also use Kitpop ROM.

Stock and lagging as heck. I have always rooted and am almost done with rooting the TMO S5. I am looking for a rom that is complete and does not lag. I have always used the Stock roms on my other samsung verizon phones and felt the most comfortable with them.
Which is the Fastest lag free rom for the TMO s5 and closest to stock minus bloatware etc.
Thanks in advance.
Do you need wifi calling if not then
Use my maverick rom v4 on international thread it had s6 features because it is a port

I travel a lot internationally for work. so wifi calling is important to me. I will try the area 51.
Thanks, I want to support the guy that made the hispasian kernel how do i do that.?
i am on f0j4 to use your area51 rom do i need to be on og6? is flashing back as simple as using the bootloader and stock modem tar's in odin and flash back? Then can I flash the v9.6 of your rom onto my phone through odin as well using the pds button? or do i need to find a 0g6 version of the rom and flash that first?

area51 is oj4. if you want to support hispasian kernel you can flash it over the kernel used in 51. You might need to install the correct supersu but i would think it would work fine.

I got rooted I am just getting ready to flash the new rom. I used the hispasian kernel and sent him some love.
I don't need to stay with it if there is something better to run with the area 51 rom.
My question now is as follows? I already am running f0j4 do i need to flash the stock modem and bootloader? Can I just skip those steps and go straight to the odin and flash the rom?

I guess it would depend on the method that was used for getting the phone to OJ4.
If it was a full install then your bootloader is OJ4 which the area51 is based off of.
My modem and bootloader is OJ4 however others have said OG6 works as well too.
If your OG6 or OJ4 then you dont need to flash a modem or bootloader.
Also Area51 and 9.6 are flashed in custom recovery not odin.

I got to Oj4 by OTA I assume. When I bought the phone off of Craigslist it came this way.
I maybe confused in regards to V9.6 and Area 51. I though that Area 51 was the rom and it was currently in Version 9.6.
I have downloaded it from the download tab on this forum link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/maverick-5-1-1-improved-edition-v2-t3159387
It says it is version 1 when I download it. Area 51 v1.zip to be precise.
I was also planning on following the instructions on this page #3 forum post to flash the rom. Is this wrong? Am I going in the wrong direction?

Post 3 is not needed if you are on OJ4 already. Area51 and 9.6 are different roms. you do need to flash in twrp and install the rom from within twrp.
so step 4 and 5.
malbert16442 said:
Step 4
Close and then reopen Odin, pull the battery for 30 seconds, pop back in and boot into download mode all with your phone disconnected from your computer. Now grab the TWRP recovery image from here https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ (I use 2.8.7.0) and place into the PDA button inside odin, uncheck F Reset Time and Repartition then flash or click start.
Step 5
When step 4 completes, now you can do the 3 finger boot into TWRP recovery to flash V9.4 of this ROM.

Just for future reference. This section is only for developing. There is a Q&A section where you can post for questions like this. No offense but people always go crazy when others post in the wrong section.
