I have some corrupt files on my internal memory,
first i tried to delete them from solid explorer but it cant
then i tried format usb storage and also format from cwm. it deleted all folders but except the corrupt files and the hidden folders so it is not a true full format.
I need to fully wipe the internal to get rid of these files, how do i do it?
You haven't mentioned whether you are rooted and/or running a cusROM or not. But to answer your question, flashing a firmware in Odin overwrites the phone partitions (afaik) and should format the affected partition.......
Edit....just seen you mentioned CWM....so I guess you are at least rooted....
So you have another option. In CWM go to mounts and storage....you'll find options to format various partitions....preload, cache, dalvic, data and eMMc if my memory serves me.....just remember to stay clear of any wiping if you are running ICS 4.0.4 and a basic (not included in a custom kernel) CWM. ....see eMMc brickbug....aka paperweight creator....

Hi, I have a similar problem with my phone : first a problem of dynamic langage with swiftkey, just after an error message about the database of root uninstaller, and then impossible to open the photo galery, with a message like "insuffisant memory space, etc..."
However there are 5Go of free space ....
So I run Avast and moved all important files from internal memory to the sdcard.
When I expected to move the backup files of MyBackup Root that the file manager looked like frozen. Impossible to move not to delete any file any more, and I can see plenty of corrupted files with very strange non alphabetic names inside the MyBackup Root directory.
I tried with no success :
- to delete all files in internal memory from a pc connected by usb, nor from terminal emulator, I get the message that it is read only (in su)
- to format from android parameter
- to reboot in recovery mode, then to format with CWM (v3.15)
- to perform a fsck_msdos
- to reboot in recovery mode, to run a e2feck
the fsck sees those corrupted files but cannot delete with error message like I/O Error
My Galaxy S2 works fine, except the internal memory that cannot be written.....
my questions is : How can a unfreeze my internal memory ?
Thanks.

Ok...sounds like you have a real problem there....
Now I'm not the most experienced Android user here, but to me, that sounds like a NAND read/write corruption (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)
My advice would be to read this thread thoroughly. ...

how to repair the corrupted internal memory after pit partition?
Dear senior members
i am using S2 Gt-9100g. Recently i tried to re-partition the internal memory by pit file of 6-8 gb via Odin and CWM recovery installed via PDA,simultaneously. i got 6 gb internal space for apps. then with the help of custom CWM recovery i successfully flashed the cm13 ROM and gaaps pico zip, then i reboot the system then i found out that my internal memory is corrupted so i hastily tried to format from my phone. This is where i made the mistake... now my phone runs smoothly but no internal memory . I tried to repair the internal memory by CWM recovery to format the internal memory but it won't detect any. I know it is wrongly formatted but it is there!
please senior members, help to regain the internal memory.
Thank you

Format your internal sd or sdcard0 in "exFAT" format and try again, recommend use recovery TWRP or Isorec
After some 2+ years of constantly changing ROMs, I've noticed that my i9100 shows more often than not the message of "your storage is getting full" or whatever it says. It does not work by clearing apps' data or even removing some of them because it ends up showing the warning soon. Also, factory reset has proved not to do much, since it just does a data wipe.
So I have decided to proceed with a format by entering Recovery > Mounts & storage > Format sdcard.
I just want to check first wether I will be able, after the format has finished, to flash CyanogenMod back from the same recovery (having placed it in the external SD card, which I understand is not formatted together with the internal storage) and have it working all ok, or the format will disable me from doing something else.
So my questions are:
That 'format sdcard' option in the Recovery means the internal storage, right?
The external SD card (the actual physical one) is not affected by the format, right?
Will I be able to flash CyanogenMod back again from the same Recovery after the format?
In case yes, any reboot in between the format and the flashing would brick my phone?
Help is much appreciated!

well as i had flashed a lot of Roms too, maybe i can help you...i'll try!
after formatting sdcard, u wont lose ROM. u will just format your sdcard(12 gb i think).
1) i think the "format sdcard" option is supposed to mean the internal storage. but in some roms that i flashed, sometimes the sdcard mean the external sdcard and EMMC means the internal sdcard...so first take a look. go to install zip and select install from internal sdcard or external sdcard and look up in the screen, if it shows that u are in /sdcard or in /emmc, so u can know what sdcard are u really going to format
2) if u select to format the internal sdcard, it will only format the internal sdcard. nothing else.
3)well, as i said in the beginning, you won't lose rom in the format...u just formated sdcard, the rom and its stuff are still there, in the device storage(not sdcard or external sdcard, but in a card that is only for system/phone stuff(its like the phone has 2 cards. one u can use and send stuff(12gb) and the other one is for system files(2gb))
4) i think it would not brick it, since u just formated the sdcard, the rom is still on your phone but in the device storage, like i said above.
the ROM files arent stored in internal sdcard or external sdcard(those u can send files by usb), they are stored in the storage of the device that is only for system files. so if u do a format it wont affect Rom or Recovery.
hope it helped a little...cheers
Short notice from my side: I doubt formatting your sdcard will help to solve your original problem (low memory). This message appears if the /data space (those 2GB where all the system settings and application data are stored) is almost used completely. The easiest way to clean up this data is a system reset (which will make you loose all your data) or you need to look whether there are applications occupying much data there and remove these apps / tell them to store their data on /sdcard (if this is possible) or to selectively remove some log files / temp data. But in this you should be very careful, because removing the wrong data might cause strange system behaviour.

I think that is not quite the problem I am faceing now. I explain myself: when I get that "storage almost full" message, if I check on Settings > Storage, the Internal Storage section (1,97 GB in total) shows an availability of only 205 MB and the bar is half full (see attached). First incoherence. I try to update any small app such as, for example, Bitcoin Wallet (1.3 MB) and it says it can't be updated because there is not enough space. Incoherent with the bar shown. Also, if I navigate to /data, it shows there is an amount of 2.31 GB inside that directory (incoherent with the amount shown by the Storage Manager. Other data folders, such as the one in /sdcard/data or the one in /data/data, are always smaller (3 MB and 425 MB respectively, also don't match any of the figures shown by the Storage Manager).
Some ROM installs ago, I remember I was able to install around 190 apps and no problem at all, and now I'm 160 and have to keep removing apps when I want to install more.
That's why I think my problem is not related to data, or fixed by a data wipe or factory reset. I understand there are too many files inside that are just lost from ROM to ROM, and not even the system know where do they belong to. It is running everything but fluent. I don't even remember what Project Butter is :silly:

Thanks for your help, dude! Much appreciated.
Anyway, I feel that, if formatting sdcard does not wipe everything, maybe then what I need is to go Recovery > Mounts and storage > format /system, format /data, etc. All of them except for the actual physical sdcard (wether it is /emmc or /sdcard) and the directory in which the recovery "lives".
So I have new questions now:
If I formatted /system, would the phone be bricked or the Recovery would still allow me to install a CM ROM stored in the sd card?
Is there any of the directories shown in Recovery > Mounts and Storage that represents the actual Recovery partition/space?
There's no recovery partition you can format.
You can format system, preload, and data partition.
But flash a ROM right after.
There are flashable scripts (ROM wipe or ROM nuke) you can use. It does all the formats and wipes, and even back up some of your folders.

It's a known bug, that Android's performance is decreasing very much as soon as there is less than 10% free on /data. Additionally I wouldn't trust the graphics you see, because especially if you have man small files, the space occupied on "disk" is much higher than the file size. If they are only adding the file size of the files stored there this will be misleading. As far as I know the block size is 4kb, so each file takes at least 4kb of the memory. You can try to move some apps to /sdcard, but this works only to an external one, so you can free some space. Otherwise have a look on /data/system/dropbox or /data/system/usagestats if you can find some files which can be removed.

well, as Sergeileduc said, u can't format Recovery. so answering your questions:
1) yes, you would still be able to flash any other Rom, since formatting /system does not affect recovery. Wiping this partition will remove Android from the device without rendering it unbootable, and you will still be able to put the phone into recovery or bootloader mode to install a new ROM.
2) i dont think so...u can't format recovery...
hope it helped you...cheers!
well the 4rth question is no it wouldent brick your phone it will just hang at the galaxy s logo p.s thanks for helpin me on the other fourm
Just to add my own experience.....
Some months ago, my phone was suffering from poor performance (I was running CM10.1 at the time)
I decided to do a full format to totally "pristine" wipe my phone and start fresh. I copied a fresh version of the rom and gapps to my removable micro SD card and rebooted into CWM. I formatted cache, dalvic, preload, emmc and sd.....then just to be certain, I factory reset too.....
After that and while still in CWM, I flashed the rom and gapps and rebooted without issue......I believe this is what you want to do, so to answer your question. ...yes it is safe and possible to do this.....my phone is proof of that.....

Hi, today i flashed CM11 to my S3, I wiped everything, but in settings it says that user available space is just 3.59GB (installed few apps), but all space is 11.35 GB. When I connect phone to PC via USB, PC says that phone memory is 11.3GB , but used space is 7.85GB. There aren't any files, just few, which are about 1.5 MB. Any solutions to have more than 4GB user available space?
P.S. I flashed CM11 from stock 4.1.2

When you say wiped have you done a mega wipe this is not the normal wipe ie you need to format system, data, cache, preload, internel sd card etc.You need to be careful when you do this because it wipes system so make sure you backup everything and have a rom ready on your ext sd card to flash straight after the wipe.

This process will wipe all of your data off your phone. This includes all of your apps, system storage and internal sd card. It doesn't wipe your external sd card. Make sure to backup all of your apps and data to the cloud, micro sd card or onto a computer
Make a backup!! Why am I saying this again? Because there is always a few careless people who do this process and complain how they lost all of their data.
If you try to use the modified system partition with stock rom, your rom will not boot! You must revert to stock system partition sizes first then install stock rom!
What you need:
- A Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 16GB International variant. You must have this model otherwise you will brick your device! Other models can use the lanchon repit tool.
- A kernel in .tar format. I highly recommend gustavo kernel as it doesn't suffer the formatting problem that dorimanx (using default recovery) or apolo kernel (TWRP) does. Pre-made files Update: DorimanX kernel supports isorec recoveries in the newest builds. Flashing a isorec recovery will remove this formatting limit and will be usable in all partition sizes.
- System pit files (Provided in the attachments)
- A PC (preferably Windows, if using OS X or linux, use JOdin instead!)
- A archiving/compression utility such as 7-zip or winrar. I recommend 7-zip because it is for free and it is open source.
- ODIN (to flash the kernel of course, again use JOdin for linux and OS X). Also, I have made ODIN installation easier with fewer options!
Benefits
Why do people increase the partition sizes? Here are some reasons why:
- Can allocate more storage space for more apps (removes the need for moving apps to sd card)
- Allows people to upgrade to android lollipop or marshmallow easier (if you don't want to go through any messages saying that there isn't enough space)
- Since it will delete everything, this will restore all lost space taken up by apps and other programs
- Gapps (Google Apps) will be much easier to install (you can choose larger gapps file if you want, only if you increase system partition). For CM12.1 and CM13, re-partitioning has become a necessity before flashing current gapps packages.
- Can fix soft bricks. However hard bricks can not be solved this way!
- Can fix problems with partition errors
Please note that this guide requires a PC and a working USB jack. If you don't meet these requirements, use lanchon's tool instead!
CM13 Nightlies have been released. Please note that the link to the premade .tar kernels are compatible up to Android Lollipop. You will still be able to repartition your device using Lollipop kernel! Since you will be reflashing or restoring CM13 during the process, marshmallow kernels are not required!
Instructions
Make a recovery backup (CWM or TWRP) onto your external sd card or PC (VERY IMPORTANT!!! All backups in internal sd card will be deleted so move them!)
Download the system pit files (attached in OP)
Extract the pit zip file
Open ODIN (Attached in the OP, JOdin for linux and OS X)
Connect your phone to your PC via USB while in download mode (make sure your phone is detected on ODIN, it should say COM:{number})
Click on the PIT button and locate and select your desired pit file
Click on PDA or AP and select your kernel .tar file (look at this post if you don't have one: Pre-made kernel tar Link)
Make sure that re-partition has been ticked then click start. If your phone successfully flashes, move onto the next step. If not, try changing usb ports, changing ODIN version, changing pit files or seeing if your device has a corrupt nand (or broken). If your memory chip is corrupt or broken, you won't be able to flash with ODIN (and you will need to buy a new motherboard). If you are still unsure what to do, look at the screenshot in the attachments.
Disconnect the USB cable. Take out your phone battery, then re-insert it.
Press and hold button combinations (home button + power button + volume up) to boot into recovery. You only need to hold for about 5 seconds.
If you have CWM recovery, go to mounts and storage then select format /sd card0 or /internal sd card. Select default and your internal sd card should successfully format. If not, try ext4 format. If you have TWRP recovery, you will need to go to wipe>advanced and select format emmc or /sd card0, then swipe to confirm . If you can successfully format your phone here, skip steps 11, 12, 13, 14. Note: DorimanX kernel doesn't support ext4 formatted sd cards. You will need to format your sd cards to vfat or fat32 for DorimanX kernel to detect.
----IF FORMATTING FAILS IN RECOVERY----
Connect your phone back to your PC.
If formatting sd card in recovery fails, connect your phone to your PC. While still in recovery (CWM), go to mounts and storage and select mount mass storage. If you have TWRP recovery, go to mount and select mount sd card. It should prompt you that the storage isn't ready yet and you need to format. If your PC still doesn't detect your phone, check if the proper drivers are installed (in attachments). Also, if your phone doesn't get detected and you've done everything in this step, try changing usb ports, computers and even usb cables.
Click format
You can leave all of the settings to default, I personally like to change the allocation size to 4KB (4KB is good if you want to make the most out of your phone's storage while having enough speed)
Click format.
----AFTER SUCCESSFULLY FORMATTING----
Go back to your phone. You can choose to restore from your backup or install a new rom. If you choose to restore from a backup, skip all of the remaining steps. (Note: DorimanX kernel recoveries can not format /data partition more than 2gb, use an alternative first when restoring a backup then flash back if needed)
In mounts and storage, choose format /data, /cache and /system (Note: DorimanX kernel recoveries can not format /data partition more than 2gb, use an alternative first then flash back if needed)
Now you can flash a ROM as you normally would
Huge thanks to ElGamal for providing the modified pit files and metalgearhathaway for providing the stock pit file and the.gangster for providing the 1.5GB system pit files.
I have included pit files that will resize your system partition to 1GB or 1.5GB (depending on your choice).
Data partition sizes range from 3GB up to 6GB. The rest is for your internal data storage.
Everything has been nicely labeled so please pay attention to which pit file you select!
I don't recommend using the 32MB Preload pits because they can cause problems with some ROMs.
If you get bootloops, flash a pit with a smaller data partition size!

Followed this guide to step 10 (formatting with Apolo's kernel) but I was not prompted to format the SD... Windows does not recognize the phone anymore even though the phone boots to TeamWin's recovery just fine. Any ideas?
UPDATE: I flashed Gustavo's kernel as well and have the same problem: Windows does not recognize the device. It does make the beep-beep indicating a connection is being established and it does suggest that it's installing drivers (though they're already installed), and then tells me that it can't find the drivers for a GT-I9100 . I tried the same process on a completely separate machine with no joy. All help very, very welcome.

Have you tried formatting via recovery? Can you mount the sd cards manually? Try cwm recovery instead of twrp.

You know you can format sd card in recovery. Try that first. If your PC doesn't detect drivers for your phone, you will have to install them manually with the samsung USB drivers (in attachments). I've also updated the guide.
Thanks for the help! A couple of quick things:
- I installed the samsung drivers above before I started the process, I tried uninstalling them and re-installing and still no joy. At the moment, when I plug in the phone via USB cable I get three quick successive beeps (previously, running Lysergic's LP 5.0.2 this process was working fine and windows recognized the storage folder)
- what type should /sdcard0 be formatted to (ext2/ext4/ntfs...?)
- how does one mount the sdcard manually? I have looked around and there dosen't seem to be a 'guide' per se...
UPDATE: I formatted /data, /cache, /system, /sd card (using 'default' for formatting type) and couldn't find /datadata or /emmc... Windows still gives me three quicks successive beeps and does not recognize the device...
UPDATE2: After mounting both /sdcard and /usb connection in CWM recovery using Gustavo's kernel, Windows recognized the device and I was able to copy rom and gapps and then flash. I didn't realize there was an option to mount /usb connection (!).
i become the message: "E:Unable to mount '/emmc'

- At first, Odin would show Fail!, but after I connected the phone in a different USB port, it worked.
- The first kernel I used was Apollo 8.3 TWRP but I couldn't either format or mount the internal storage in that recovery.
- So I repeated the procedure but this time using this Gustavo's CWM kernel for ODIN created by the OP, and in recovery I was able to format internal storage without issues (by the way, I selected default from the formatting options).
Thanks for the guide.

I don't include pit files with modified preload partition as it can cause some phones to bootloop.

Since only stock ROM is using preload partition, i quess it's safe... could you direct me to PIT file of (1GB system, 3 GB DATA, 45MB or less preload)?
thanks
nevermind...
when should I flash this mod? at stock ROM or at Lollipop
hey guys
because of the problems that my phone has at the moment I have to install the stock ROM and work my way up to Lollipop. When is it better to use this mod. Right after I go to stock or can I wait untill after I Have installed Lollipop?

Best before installing LP as it will wipe data and SD 0
Please help, can't enter recovery
Edit: All seems to be ok. Maybe I was to stupid to press the buttons the right way... :silly: Maybe the Odin screenshot helps somebody, so I only hide my post instead of erasin it.
Hi folks,
I have read the tutorial more then once and I was sure that i can do all steps the right way. But now, after I clicked "Go" in Odin, I can't get my S2 to work. My phone booted up and I wanted to enter the recovery with Vol up, Home and Power, but it doesn't work.
I entered the download mode again an started the procedere for another time, but again, I can't enter the recovery.
Here is a Screenshot from my Odin
Thx in advance!
I've updated the guide a bit so it is easier to understand and so the formatting isn't as confusing as it was before.
Thnx
it was as easy as pie
any chance that the OP can provide or will do
a 1 or 2GB /system partition in addition to a 8GB /data partition?

I honestly think there is no rom or gapps that will completely use the 1gb system partition. If you want 8gb data, you will need to flash the 8gb pit. I could make a pit like that but the chances are it may screw up people's phones.
no problem at all, much appreciated..
I have just over 300 apps installed and not enough space left on the 6GB /data partition..
if you can make me a 1 or 2GB /system partition with a 8GB /data partition, i will test/use it on my phone..
i am not worried about not having much internal /sdcard0 storage as i have a 32GB external /sdcard1 for pics, movies etc.
the more, the merrier for me..
just let me know when..
A little help please
I just followed the steps to increase my partition size and I flashed the 1gb_6gb pit file. All went good, I even managed to format all in CWM, I flashed my rom (which was stored in my external SD) and now, when I try to see my internal storage (with any file manager) I cannot see it. I checked under settings->storage and I have only 6 GB total storage..but I can't see it with any file explorer and even in Windows. And now, my camera doesn't work (on lollipop) saying that no SD has been found. It may be other things that do not work, but I didn't test more. Is it normal to be like this? Thank you for your great work

Not normal at all. What did you format sdcard0 as in CWM?

Yes, I did formatted sdcard0 in cwm as default. And I flashed again a new pit file 1gb_4gb and I followed again the steps, I also mounted usb and I formatted sdcard0 in windows and now it works. My internal storage is visible. Thanks!
After installing cyanogenmod 12.1 on galaxy s2 and repartitioning (6Gb system) , I can't access internal memory from my pc.
All my apps work OK, but I can't find their folders either with the file manager on the phone or with my pc.
Please help !

Try to wipe internal storage via recovery. This helps often.
Wiping didn't work

I tried wiping via the cyanogenmod recovery.
The situation is still the same.
What is also odd, that I cannot use my camera or gallery and I get a "no storage" message or "insert SD card".
However, if I install an app, it works....
I'm kinda lost here.
Should I revert to the 2GB system before the repartitioning ? Maybe this is the problem ?
Maybe I should try to mount the USB storage ? (If so, how do I do it ? I can't find my clockwork mod recovery screen)
Thank again

With TWRP, you can change the filesystem type from the wipe menu for your internal storage. After repartitioning you should format your internal storage or else you will have this no storage error. Format your internal storage to ext4 or fat. Do not use exfat as I had some problems accessing it from my pc.
As far as I know, apps are installed to your system partition so you wont have problems with that but if you try to download or take photo (something that writes to the internal storage) you will have no storage error.
EDIT: Use fat because you might have problems with ext4 on windows.
I formatted my internal storage...

I did format my internal storage after repatitioning to the default format...
If I understand correctly, you suggest that I redo the process:
1. wipe data/cahe/delvik
2. install TWRP
3. Repartition
4. Fromat internal storage to ext4 or fat
5. Re-install cyanogenmod
6. Everything will work fine...
Right ?

Don't wipe anything. You dont have to repartition again.
Go into TWRP (if you dont have it, flash a ROM with TWRP recovery.)
Wipe>Advanced Wipe> Choose Internal Storage from the list >Repair or Change File System>Change FIle System>Choose FAT
