Removing locked bookmarks in Samsung browser - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know how to remove these? I have a couple pointing to African websites that I'd like to get rid of. I found a thread on how to delete them on a Note3, but the file to edit doesn't exist on the S6. I am rooted, but can't find a thing.

I finally figured out how to remove them. You must be rooted. The file you need to edit is "customer.xml". On my phone (G925F), it is located in: System > CSC > customer.xml. The file can be edited with a text editor. In the file, locate the bookmark name(s) and URL(s) you want to unlock. Here is one example on my phone:
<Editable>no</Editable>
<Index>1</Index>
<BookmarkName>Samsung Apps</BookmarkName>
<URL>http://m.za.samsungapps.com</URL>
All you have to do is change the <Editable>no</Editable> to <Editable>yes</Editable>. When finished, save the file.
To reload the newly edited file, you must clear data and force stop in the Internet app. You'll find it in Settings > Applications > Application Manager > All > Internet.
When you restart the browser, you will now be able to edit and delete the previously locked bookmarks. Hope this helps someone....

thank you very much!!

[Q] How to remove preloaded bookmarks in rooted Optimus 1?

Hi,
I've successfully rooted my branded Optimus 1, and removed some pre-installed apps. However, I cannot remove or delete any pre-loaded bookmarks in browser. Anyone knows how this can be done? Thanks.
I had the same problem and solved it using these things:
- a rooted Optimus One
- Root Explorer
- SQLite Editor
1. Using Root Explorer browse to /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/
2. Open browser.db and then the database table "bookmarks"
3. Change the values in the column "readonly" from "1" to "0" as you please
4. Now you'll be able to delete the bookmarks the normal way
Good luck
The solution works, though it seems to be a long way and a bit of effort I can now delete all the preloaded bookmarks. Thank you.
Procedure isn't that bad. SQLite Editor gives access without Root Explorer (assuming device is rooted). I ran the Editor, chose "Browser" as the application, then "browser.db", then "bookmarks", selected the cell under "readonly" (waayy to the right), pressed menu key for "Edit Field".
...one less trait of branding, without flashing a new ROM.
Thanks for this thread.
hi,
I don't want to start a new thread with the same topic.
After I modify the /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/ browser.db file the browser won't start, I get an error "the application browser has stopped unexpectedly"
If I delete the browser.db file the browser makes a new one with the preinstalled bookmarks, so I think there is a second place where the bookmarks and settings are.
So please, can someone help me get rid of the preinstalled bookamarks, because there are a lot of them and set as favorite .
EDIT: I tried to uninstall the browser and reinstall using this LINK but still same thing. there is something that verifies the browsers bookmarks or something like that...

[Q] .nomedia file

Alright, so I've read just about every article and I can't figure out how to remove certain images from the android gallery. I've attempted to add a .nomedia file to the folder in which the unwanted pictures are located but they still appear in the gallery. I believe the issue lies within the fact that the art is rooted deep within the directories.
Example:
3OH!3 > *Album Name* > *Artwork*
I would like to simply add a file on the higher level to prevent all folders from appearing in gallery. I don't want to go into each individual folder and create a .nomedia file, that's absurd.
Can anyone help me before I pull out more of my hair?
You need to create a .nomedia file and then force a rescan (.nomedia does apply to all sub-folders). Worst case, you'll need to clear the application data and then reboot (which actualy isn't that bad).
After you create the .nomedia file, there's an app called SDrescan that I use to trigger a rescan, but that only applies to Internal Storage. On the other hand, if it's the microSD, you should just be able to pop it out and pop it back in to force a rescan.
If none of that works, go to Settings → Applications → Manage applications → All, Media Storage, I think it was?, then Clear Data. Reboot. You should now be good.
I can't offer any help in this but I just had to comment....great band choice

How to delete files in your "Downloads" section?

This may be a super trivial question, but I cannot seem to find how to delete files in the "downloads" folder/app.
I had downloaded some PDF files, and it shows in the Internet & Downloads page. I've tried clearing the cache/cookies/history in my Internet settings, but the files still appear in my Downloads section. I thought there was a way to delete them in the Downloads menu, but it does not appear to be. When I press the "Menu" button, it just gives me the option to Sort By Size.
Any suggestions?
In stock browser, when you look at your downloads history, you should see tick boxes next to each download. When you tick the box the option to delete should appear.
also, as a general idea, you could open the file explorer, navigate to the folder Downloads/ and delete the files you want to delete. a good thing about android is that you actually don't have to take care of file locations but it can still help to use file explorer to move, copy or delete files.

[Q] How to Hide Folder Or Files in Android Without any Software Or App

In this thread you will read about simple and easiest way using which you can hide any folder or file in Android phone without using any software or app. So why don’t you check the steps below:
Guide to Hide Folder/Files in Android Without Software
1. First of all Open file manager of your device. I’m using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for this tutorial. (but procedure is same in all the device)
2. In File Manager, Tap on Device Storage or SD Memory Card to head over to the next step.
3. Now in My Files you need to Create New Folder with any name. But make sure to add . before the name of the folder. For Example, If you name the folder “lavish” add . and it will look like “.lavish”
4. Once folder is created you need to copy and paste all the private content in this folder an check your gallery whether its showing your photos/videos or not. Once you confirm it to be visible follow the next step
5. In option you will see Setting option, just tap on it.
6. When you click on Settings, another window will open. In this window you will notice two option Show Hidden Files and Show Hidden Extension. You need to uncheck show hidden files option which is checked by default.
Note: If you want to hide file uncheck show hidden files, and if you want to hide particular extension uncheck show hidden extension
7. Now after doing above step you will notice that the folder you created is not visible in the Windows. Now this means you have successfully hidden your private content. To confirm this, again head over to gallery and I’m sure that you will notice all the photos and videos which was visible to till 3 steps are not visible any more.
8. Whenever you want to access these files. You just need to check Show Hidden Files or Show Hidden Extension and all Folders and File become visible to you.
Note: In case, if you’re seeing the hidden files in gallery after following the above method. You just need to move the folder to another location and move it back to same location.
