"Custom binary blocked by FRP." - Help! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am somewhat a new Android user, (considering I received mine around July 2015). Anywho, about two weeks ago I decided to root my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime device using the, "KingRoot" app by, Kingxteam, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6674985). Upon today, I wanted to restart my phone since it was starting to lag a bit; but once the logo popped up upon restart, it said the following:
Custom binary blocked by FRP.
SECURE FAIL: KERNEL

At first, I thought I had nothing to worry about since I could reformat/reset my device; but that didn't work.. After that, I tried looking through a bunch of forums and YouTube videos; but none of them seem to work out for me..
Skimming through videos, there was one particular method that seemed close, and that was called, "Odin". During the process I've been trying to find the MetroPCS firmware for my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, (Model SM-G360T1). (MetroPCS is currently my cellular/mobile carrier for my phone). Unfortunately, the only firmware I could find was the T-Mobile U.S. firmware.. :crying: Anyone know where I can find the MetroPCS firmware? Please, let me know ASAP! :fingers-crossed:

FRP lock, also known as Factory Reset Protection lock, is a new security feature for devices running Android operating system 5.1 and higher. This new feature is designed to prevent unauthorized factory reset or software modification of a device without a user’s permission. This feature uses the registered Google account on the device as the verification measure to check if the software modification being done is authorized or not. That your device shows the “Custom Binary block by FRP lock” error means that there is a Google account logged in. FRP feature is only enabled if a Google account is present on the device. It also means that the phone you are working on have screen lock feature enabled. Your device should have prompted you to enter the correct lock screen as well as your Google account credentials to perform a factory reset or software modification in the first place. Did you do this? If the phone didn’t prompt you to enter your Google account credentials, try to call Samsung and ask them for more direct assistance regarding this new FRP lock feature. Or your can visit Samsung’s site to know more about it.
or try reflash with odin the original firmware http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G360T1/TMB/
or https://www.metropcs.com/contact-us.html

Alright, thank you! I'll report back once I've tried all the things you've given out. One question though. If I try and reflash with the original firmware, will I be able to change the mobile phone carrier/provider? I checked the firmware file, and it says, "T-Mobile". Will this affect my SIM Card that's on my device in any way? If not, am I able to change to my phone carrier? I originally had MetroPCS before this error happened..

Same problem; different device
I have a Samsung Tab E running Android 5.1.1 and today, after using it for a week or so, suddenly the same error message occurred. In my case, I also used a KingRoot app but the tablet appears to be rooted only after the app does its thing; after it is shut off and started, it is not rooted again. I turned on developer tools and set USB debugging to on. Other than that, all apps downloaded, installed and uninstalled where from Google Play Store. I don't think anything I did qualifies as illegal software. Even if that was true, I would expect the device to no longer qualifier for warranty but not locked out from it.
The tablet was being set up as an Christmas present for my 75 year old mother-in-law and I was trying to resolve one last issue to allow me to use my laptop and remotely control her tablet using TeamViewer (the "recent" icon would not work). I'll assume I set up a Google account for her when the setup wizard did it's thing. I had a security pin set up but removed it and set the device to have "no security". I planned on setting up the pin again after she received the device, started up TeamViewer and I had her WiFi connection working. I had considered doing a factory reset and went down the settings path up to the point to read what a factory reset would do but decided it probably wasn't going to do anything and exited. No factory reset was done.
So, reading above, the FRP lockout requires a "Google account logged in"; what exactly does that mean? I didn't sign into any account intentionally. The device never prompted be for any account credentials.
Any advice as to how to proceed would be appreciated. I guess the good news is that I at least registered the device with Samsung and, since it is only a week or so old, maybe return it to BestBuy and see if I can swap it out with a new one and start over(?).

My phone did somewhat a similar reaction too. Every time I would restart it up, my phone wouldn't be rooted anymore, and I had to root it again with the KingRoot app. Anyways, I think what it means by a "Google account logged in" is the Google account you used when you had to first set-up the Android device.

For fmkowens user, Instructions:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin3_v3.10.7.zip
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.10.7
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
Select your correct model

Wait, linus! By, "unlock" do you mean using the T-Mobile firmware that's provided for my device model?

Thanks a lot linus2014! You really helped me out here in this type of situation! After it successfully booted up my phone, the center of it said, "MetroPCS" with the following slogan at the bottom saying, "Riding on the Nationwide Network T-Mobile".. This whole time I've been trying to find the so called, "MetroPCS" firmware. But after some research, MetroPCS integrated with T-Mobile.. :silly: Sorry for my ignorance.. I got up to the point to select the firmware file but in the list of countries there is no USA listed. There are numerous different files listed so I don't know which file to select.
The tablet screen says "do not turn off target"; I have the tablet hooked up to the laptop so I hope it is charging.

THIS WILL FIX YOUR ISSUE AS I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM YOU ARE EXPERIENCING.
WARNING IT WILL DELETE YOUR DATA. IF YOUR DATA IS IMPORTANT FIND ANOTHER MEANS...
You MUST have Kies full installed on the desktop/laptop and make sure you're updated to the latest version.
1) Boot your note into download mode(hold down volume button at the same time as the power button, let go of power button when you feel
your phone vibrate but keep holding down button until you see a prompt to push up volume button to continue or down volume button to
cancel, hit the up button your are now in download mode.)
2) Connect your Note to the laptop with factory USB cable
2) Launch Kies on your desktop (full version)
4) Choose Tools, Firmware upgrade & initialization
a) While in download mode, pull battery and enter the S/N & model name (ALL CAPS!!)
b) It will prompt to initialize to original settings. Click "YES"
c) It will prompt to initialize the latest version. Click "YES"
d) It will download the firmware upgrade components (DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DEVICE!!)
5) It will prompt for firmware upgrade and initialization.
a) Click check box for reading above information
b) Click your choice if you want your information saved on Samsung Kies corporate servers (I choose WITHOUT saving).
Just kick back, wait and the phone will update to the original out of box software with the latest updates already applied. No issue with anything, no tripping of the flash counter, and Samsung/AT&T knows now different (if you tripped the counter back before performing this, or performed the process of installing CWM recovery through ADB as to NOT trip the flash counter when changing recovery).
This is the EXACT process I did, and had an AT&T tech verify and it's not detectable I was rooted, and was running a custom ICS ROM. Now, I will qualify that I DID the Recovery installation with ADB so that I didn't trip the counter with the Recovery installation. So if they are able to check the binary information to detect modification even with flash counter reset, that's out of my hands and can't confirm or deny.
You may have to do this process multiple times for it to work.
It worked 1st time for me but another guy had to do it 10 times!

Yes more then likely. I had the same problem when rooting, I used the fix I provided then tried rooting and got the same issue.
So I fixed again and then used another rooting method. Sorry but I cannot remember what rooting methods I used. You gotta
do some homework and find another root method. Put in the time it will pay off! Good Luck
You don't root with Odin. You flash cwm with Odin then flash super user with cwm to gain root. Or just flash a ROM with cwm and you'll be rooted.
You don't need kies at all.
Download the proper Odin stock package for your phone. Then put your phone in download mode, flash that with Odin. Once that finishes you'll be stock and no root. Find the Odin flashable cwm package. Flash that with your phone in download mode. Then put a ROM on your internal storage, reboot into cwm, and flash the ROM. You'll have a better experience than stock, and it will be rooted.
And don't worry about the flash counter. No reason to. People have gotten warranty exchanges no problem with their counter tripped. As of right now neither ATT nor Samsung care that it's tried so long as you go back to stock before you exchange.
And please, read a bunch. As much as you can. It's not hard to learn the process I just described. And it will Dave you from future issues like you're experiencing.

Hey a little help here. I have this issue right now after trying to root. I am following the directions on this post to go back to the official firmware but i'm having a problem locating the S/N. This is a replacement phone i got out of warranty last week. I was able to root/unroot my old phone but that was still in GB b/c I didn't update it due to the bugs in ICS. Well this one already had ICS and now I'm having a ****load of problems.
The only numbers I see on the phone behind battery is the
IMEI
SKU
FCC ID
Where do I find the S/N to put into keis?

[Q] 2.3.5 Factory reset, RSD hangs - and is this even necessary?

I am so, so exhausted from searching thread after thread and on Google, so I beg no one to bark at me if I missed finding my answer. I've read the Compendium several times and thanked Lokifish Marz - actually thanked him back during the summer when I first rooted my MoPho. And I have thanked several people for the support my moto campaign, which I've followed closely.
So, what I've done and what it's doing:
- Rooted it successfully this summer using photon torpedo and Lokifish Marz's help (first time rooting at all). I didn't fool with trying to unlock / flash / mod anything because I knew I wasn't ready yet. Shortly thereafter....
- Updated to 2.3.5 before we knew what a death sentence that was. Afterward, decided once again to just wait it out and see what happened with development, and keep learning what I could (and I'm a 38 year old woman with a Bachelor's in English, so we're talking slow learning curve here).
- Used it normally until my contract with Spint expired in November, dropped them and got a Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile prepaid. Decided "I'll just turn my Photon into a fancy little tablet for my boys to game on.."..
- So I pulled the Sprint sim, and did a soft, then hard, factory reset via Android Recovery.
- Boots up fine and I skip the google setup, I get to "Connection Failed..in order to complete setup you need a data connection." No problem, I hit "Setup a Wi-Fi connection" and select my network. Click in the password field...no keyboard pops up. Hold down in the field and "select Input method pops up", click it...it says "No keyboard" . So I clicked "skip for now" and get
Sorry! The application Accounts (process com.motorola.setup) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Have to click Force close.
...the it goes back to the "setup a wi-fi connection dialog".
- Retried above several times, pulling battery and whatnot, tried another hard reset, still...."no keyboard." So after MUCH searching, I installed Moto drivers on my new laptop, installed RSD Lite, downloaded SBF: 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-154_5-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US and unpacked it. In RSD Lite I browse to the file, select it - okay, file properties are there.
- Using instructions from here, I do it all right and get stuck at
RSDStarting RSD Protocol Support
I plug in the usb and...nothing happens. And man I waited a loooooong time. But the phone never does anything else and RSD Lite never shows any device properties and nothing ever happens when I click Start. Again, I tried this step several more times, pulling battery, with and without the Sprint sim, etc...and nothing. So I'm stuck here.
Last important note:
While booted up and stuck at the "no keyboard" roadblock, I can connect the usb, select "usb mass storage" and my laptop DOES find the Photon and open up the drive. I see all these folders/files:

I ALSO tried copying the sbf file onto the mnt/sdcard folder, then rebooting to Android Recovery and "install update from sdcard"..but the directory looks empty on the phone.
So I can't reflash the stock sbf file....and I'm wondering if that's even necessary considering I can get as far as I do during setup. Seems the simplest thing would be to sideload a keyboard apk so I could proceed through setup...but I see no way to do that within my current restraints.
What to do, what to do? I thank you most kindly in advance if you can assist me. I apologize for the long-winded post but I wanted to provide as much info as may be necessary for an assist.

Idea A) Take a look under the hybrid/cm7 rom thread, there is a zip file for the stock keyboard in there, if it is signed you can simply flash that(or if you have cwm by chance, which i dont know if you do with a locked bootloader, then just flash it normally) and i believe that would fix the keyboard issue.
Idea B)Assuming you are at least rooted, get yourself a file manager with root/system file exploration capabilities, simply paste the apk(and possibly .odex file) into the system/app directory, and set permissions accordingly.
Idea C) sideloading uses adb, which i think can still be used with a locked bootloader, if so, download yourself the adb/quickboot zip package, extract it to say your desktop, and open command prompt in the directory you extracted to. From there, simpley type in adb-fastboot.exe or whatever and it should show a list of commands, there should be a command to sideload an app, otherwise, just google it, or maybe download the apkmultitool (has a gui, very easy to use) and sideload from that. Should do the trick
If none of these help, or i just read your question completely wrong, forgive me, its been a long day, and ive been fixing my truck only to have to sell it for a saturn (RIP Bettie Lou, my beautiful bucket of crap, 85 chevy c20 6.2 liter diesel truck)
PM me if needed, i will respond sooner that way, or respond here and i will see it eventually. Best of luck

Your Fix
Ya

What worked for me to fix: The frp lock Soft-brick (using Samsung Smart Switch)

This will save you 8-12 hours of your time if you are lucky. This means that it also includes the meaningful links of 8-12 hours of searching. Sentences in italic are important. 1 link is for the Odin official website, the rest are re-links back into XDA.
The device in question is a SM-925T Tmobile S6 Edge.
The problem was this. I rooted my phone and messed around with Greenify and the Play store. To prepare for rooting, I allowed unknown downloads, unlocked the bootloader, and turned my security lock off (I had set it to a finger print lock). After I was done rooting, I immediately locked the bootloader again(<--A mistake that caused my bootloop/ soft-brick). After I was finished messing with the above apps (Greenify, etc), I wanted my phone to restart. So I held the Power button and selected restart, while I was on the lock screen (may not be important). I noticed that it took a long time to restart, and upon closer examination, I noticed another error under the "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" (which appears to be natural for rooted phones). The error was "Custom Binary blocked by FRP Lock". It was a new error. I investigated this new problem using the internet , and this dude was panicking like hell, but he didn't appear to fix his problem. He did hint that returning to the bootloader to its locked state was a mistake. Looked a bit more and this guy pointed to another thread, which introduced me to flashing and more importantly his fix, which was to flash the stock 5.1.1 image through odin. He used this link, which contains all the stock firmware for the majority of the new Samsung S6 and S6 edge versions. To make a long story short, most of these fixes involved flashing your firmware to the stock version. So I went to the Odin Website, and downloaded every version, as a couple threads have said that different versions worked for them. Here is a thread with everything you need for Odin. Now, after sorting through and finding micro USB cables that are detectable by Odin, an important step because Odin might develop a pattern of detecting then failing to detect your device through that cable, and testing all the usb 2.0 ports, I was ready, and had Odin with my stock firmware. Odin kept saying "NAND Write", then in the next line "FAIL". This was annoying as Odin wouldn't detect my device again unless I unplugged it, restarted it to download mode, then restarted Odin before plugging it back in. I got confused and found links for somehow fixing the .tar files, stock roms, .pit files (DO NOT MESS AROUND WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THOSE THINGS DO), and other threads/websites that say to boot into recovery mode , factory reset, then wipe your cache. I could only do that once. After me messing around with all of the above file variants and supposed fixes to help with my issue, I couldn't boot into recovery mode, it got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge" logo. It did not fix the NAND write failing. There however, are a lot of websites allowing you to download stock software for your phones, and I don't think I can link them as it might break a rule. Surprisingly, some have claimed that using a stock file for another device worked to fix their problem. This thread, which convinced me to use Smart Switch when it failed for everyone else, was very useful, although I recommend downloading Smart Switch from the official website of Samsung. None of the Odin flashing had worked so far, including the Roms and .pit files so I tried Smart Switch. I opened it, and upon selecting the "more" tab on the upper right corner, a bunch of tabs drop down. One should be "Emergency Software recovery and initialization". I had to find my S / N (Serial) number, and I was very confused on how to obtain that number as I was locked out. But to obtain it, do the same process to boot into download (hold volume down, home key, and power key), but stay on the prompt and don't go to the screen that has the word download in the middle. Don't do anything other then reaching the prompt confirming if you want to install a custom ROM. Then, press the home key and it should show your S / N number along with your IMEI number. Once I imputed the code I saw on my phone into Smart Switch, it told me to connect the device. Now, by this time, I realized that Odin only detects my device if it is actually in the download screen. Why shouldn't my computer? I booted into Download on my phone and followed the steps on my computer, making sure that the computer can recognize my phone while it is using a valid USB port and Cable. And after some waiting, for me, my problem was fixed and I could use my phone again, it reverted to it's out-of-box state. I hope this drawn out but very specific explanation helps you guys. It's my first post And also, this thread confirms that you can use a USB hub for flashing(at least for ROMS), Smart Switch, and for rooting.
Thank you for this detailed account, however nothing of the above has worked for me. Odin won't flash the firmware of 5.0.2 (and I tried 5.1.1) and Smart switch does not recognize the device to do anything. BTW phone has been rooted for months and last night decided to turn on its FRP lock randomly and now I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Explain throughly what you have tried. Especially different ports, cables, and computers. Did you have the right device drivers? Did you do anything else?
I followed your footsteps and and the step where it has to show me the S/No and IMEI, it only shows IMEI number. I am unable to find the S/NO any suggestions?

press vol down home keys and power key once you get to the first blue screen release vol and power keep holdind home but I already tried smart swich didn't help
5.1.1 has FRP lock auto turned on whenever you have a google account on the device... This is probably going to cause a lot of problems with all newer devices that get rooted. I even tried removing all google accounts, flashed recovery and flashed boot img back to stock after rooting and still FRP was bricking the device. I got supersu onto the device, all working fine for a 3rd time, as soon as I added a google account onto my device and restarted, it was FRP lock blocked and soft bricked again.... I used kies to restore to factory again, re-rooted it for the 4th time when I finally discovered an option in developer options called OEM unlock, Turning OEM unlock on turns off the FRP lock security feature.
My conclusion, If your going to root 5.1.1 make sure you remove all accounts from the device first, do not change google passwords for 72 hours prior to rooting, once rooted, YOU MUST TURN OEM Unlock ON in settings>developer options before adding any google accounts to the device.
Hi everyone!
I also got a Samsung S6 Edge + from a friend with custom binary blocked by FRP. I don't know what he was planning to do but I guess it was rooting.
He said he want me to backup any files before I try anything. Don't know how to proceed. But as suggestion, I want to ask if using "fastboot oem unlock" command would fix that.

I'm pretty sure fastboot isn't for Samsung devices. Hard to back up any files u less you can get into TWRP or the phone. If you flash stock firmware is highly likely the files will be wiped

There is no TWRP recovery on the phone. Yeah you're right about backing up files. I don't even know how to proceed and I can tell you I have huge experience on that stuff, rooting flashing custom recoveries and roms, etc... but in this case, I can't say if files can be backed up.

The only way is to 're flash the exact same firmware he is currently using now using the 5 files firmware package. But yo ensure csc_home is used so the data will not be wiped.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! This is exactly what I was looking for I had just rooted my note 4 running 6.0.1 and had no idea what the oem option was as no rooting method talked about it at all so naturally as soon as i added my Google account phone restarted and locked up.
Kies was the answer I needed as frp lock was active in download mode and my factory reset in recovery failed everytime but running Kies firmware upgrade and entering my model and serial number it installed perfectly in download mode with frp lock still active saved me alot of hassle ?

I have some questions to help me understand your problem.
You can boot into download (Odin) mode?
When you tried to flash the stock firmware what version of Odin did you use and what were the errors you got when you tried to flash it.
I haven't used the stock recovery for awhile on the tab so could you remind me what happens when you try to get into recovery? Does it look like a dead Android?
@jd1639
Hi.
Yes, I can boot into download mode.
I used Odin3_v3.13.3.
When I tried to flash the stock firmware (T820XXU3BSD1_T820DBT3BSD1_Germany_8.0.0_4)
I got an error massage. Fail massage on Odin and block massage by FRP on my Tablet.
When I try to get into recovery mode, I don't see a dead Android. I just see on the top left corner of the tablet
with blue color a "RECOVERY BOOTING...." massage.

This is what I would do:
Download the firmware again, sometimes you get a bad download.
Try different USB cables, and if your using a PC use the ports on the back, not the ones on the front. Odin can be sensitive to cables and ports.
In Odin flash the BL, AP, and CSC. Don't use the CSC Home. Also, don't have re-partition checked.
Did you ever enable developer mode and enable OEM unlock in it? You'd do this through settings, about tablet, system software and tapping on the build number 7 times.

That's the problem, I can't enable developer mode and enable OEM so because of that I always get an error on my Tablet.
I'll try your method tomorrow, Hope it'll work :good:

OK.
I tried to flash two different firmware.
1) T820XXU3BSD1_T820DBT3BSD1_Germany_8.0.0_4File
2) T820XXU1ARA1_T820OXA1ARA1_BTU
When I flashed to first one, I got a pass installation on Odin and my Tablet did a reboot but it still stuck on bootloop and it shows a blue massage on the top left corner.
But, the second one gave me a fail massage on Odin and on my Tablet I got also something like that.

Got? I have the same mistake
Had a similar problem with my T820, sorry I haven't found a solution as yet. One day the tablet went to a black screen, frozen. After a full charge was able to soft-reset and it booted fine, but decryption took ages, and then on PIN security screen the tablet was locked.
Booted into recovery, and tried to do a factory reset - but there are messages about missing partitions, so the delete starts, but never finishes.
Finally, downloaded official roms for v9 and v8 - but the odd thing, in Odin (re-partition unchecked) if I use default CSC (not CSC Home) it fails when trying to remove userdata. If I use CSC Home, then it passes but on reboot it goes into recovery and a blue "erasing screen" appears, and just endlessly tries to erase until the battery is flat.
Other similarity... region is Germany, so could there have been an update which has bricked devices here? Any advice appreciated... should I try using re-partition in Odin as well, as there could be some partitioning based on the error messages?
Get the tablet into recovery mode (power+vol UP+home), then select the option to wipe data/cache.
Then boot the tablet into download mode (power+vol DOWN+home)
In ODIN, only load the AP and BL files. Nothing else. Then start the process. DO NOT load the CSC or HOME CSC files.
I was having the same issue for almost a year. I gave up for 6+ months. Then I spent the last couple days trying to get the unit out of the boot loop it was stuck in (Samsung S3 start screen shows, then it attempts to go to the recover mode screen, then turns off, then turns back on and repeats the process until the battery died). I tried to reload the firmware through ODIN (either 3 or all 4 files) but the tablet would fail to install the "update" once it restarted. It would fail at 32%. I read someone else in this forum only loaded the AP and BL files and ended up working. Make sure your tablet is fully charged.

Thanks for the reply, having spent many more hours on this I'm pretty sure it's a fault in the actual memory. It comes down to the userdata.img...
I've tried with Odin 3.13 the following
- re-partition: same issue, it fails when flashing userdata.img
- re-partition + nand erase... here it gets interesting, as it fails just as it starts, and on the tablet it displays "erasing userdata", so it seems even with nand erase set, the tablet refuses the clear this data. It also would explain why after a flash with HOME_CSC (which succeeds because it doesn't have a userdata.img) the boatloader goes into an erase loop, as it's probably trying to clear userdata.
I've got no idea what could cause this, corrupt memory chips? or just buggy buggy software - but I'm guessing Samsung really don't care too much and don't need to since all devices are out of warranty. Shame really!

A couple of weeks ago, i found a video titled: <<34C3 - eMMC hacking, or: how I fixed long-dead Galaxy S3 phones>>
This guy made an SD Card with a code inside, and basically "revived" a dead Galaxy S3. He also explains that eMMC is the one at fault if your phone is stuck in bootloop. Now i don't know anything about how this works, I whish i could just knew how to alter his code, I'll try to text him and tell him if it's possible to try it on my Tab S3, since i have literally tried everything to revive it.
If any1 here knows how to do it, pls pls pls help us out!!!!
I might be late for the party but i got the same issue out of no where, sent it to Samsung and they called me saying they need to replace the PCB (Main Board) guess what, in the last 2 years they replaced it twice coz i had a wifi not turning on at all. Now they wanna charge me 250$ , guess i am happy now coz i am getting rid of this garbage tab never seen a laggy piece of **** like it and nothing came out of but headaches.
My 5 years old ipad air 2 running like a champ since day one until today, not showing any sign of aging and still getting updates.
Tbh, i think the worst devices samsung ever had gets the number 3. Tab S3 and the Galaxy S3.
My advice to anyone who read this, save your time and money, never buy android tabs especially Samsung, spend a few more bucks and get the ipad which will last forever. PS: Without mentioning the huge gab of performance as IpadOS beats the **** out of any android tab

No Play Store, no Factory Reset, can't unlock OEM. What is this thing?

My boss recently acquired an S9+ and wanted to factory reset it maker sure it was clean before usage. Being 'the tech guy' it's been handed over to me to sort out. However there's something very weird with this phone. There's no Play Store, for a start. It's not disabled in the App settings, it's just not there at all. I tried installing an APK of the latest version, it installs and acts like it's updating an existing app, but when I try and launch the program is says there isn't an app installed to perform that operation.
I decided to just wipe the thing and start from scratch, but there's no option anywhere to perform a factory reset. NOTHING. No options in the settings and nothing in recovery (photo added for proof).
So I've decided to adopt a scorched earth policy and root the thing and install a fresh vanilla ROM. Except I CAN'T because I can't enable OEM unlocking. I've gotten into Developer option no problem, and OEM unlocking is there. I toggle the switch, press enable, press the blue Delete All button and... nothing. Well, not quite. Very briefly a box will pop up that bottom saying Reset but will disappear immediately. I'm utterly stumped!
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks again for the reply. I've just reflashed the latest Android version for this model (currently on 10) which passed successfully according to ODIN, however it's still exactly the same with the phone. No Play Store, no factory reset, unable to enable OEM unlock.
I'm going to attempt to install Android 9 instead and see if that works.

Download mode ( on your phone ) is the screen where you can flashed with odin.
No rush, but it can tell a bit more information.
Download Mode does not seem give a great deal of information. Is this the right screen?

It's the right screen
Did you use recovery to boot into download mode or did you use the power/vol down/bixby buttons when booting phone.
Also when you flashed the phone with stock firmware did you do a clean install. ie: used the csc file.
and did you boss say if it's a new or second hand phone.

It's very much second hand. And I think I've partially solved the problem.
I did a full reinstall using Odin and did a Nand wipe in the process. This finally made an actually full reset of the phone as it took me through the setup process. However, it automatically install a Knox profile that locks it into Retail Mode, so I guess this is an ex-display unit.
My new issue is getting out of Retail Mode. If I open the app for that it makes me choose which store the phone came from, then it downloads a 9GB file that sets up the display demo. I've found the passcode (5444) to get into the Retail Mode app, however once it begins working it completely disables the keyboard, so I can't go back into the app to disable it again. Its all very annoying.
*EDIT* Well, I got around that and disabled Retailed Mode.... and the original problems are still there. No Play Store, no Factory Reset options, can't unlock OEM.
I have now actually found that the Play Store is installed on the device, but it's disabled and pressing Enable does nothing. I'm totally stumped.
Here's the shot of the download mode screen you asked for. No idea if it will help now, but I'm willing to try anything.

I have now actually found that the Play Store is installed on the device, but it's disabled and pressing Enable does nothing. I'm totally stumped.
Here's the shot of the download mode screen you asked for. No idea if it will help now, but I'm willing to try anything.
Spoiler: Downloading mode

I don' know to much about the retail mode except for the option in developer menu. I have never tried to turn it on/off.
Amonst other things from your download screen your OEM ( bootloader ) is on. Miight be because of the retail mode.
In regards to trying to enable play store maybe try using adb to enable it.
While l could be wrong i was iniatally thinking about some sort of MDM lock which will prevent you from doing stuff to your phone.

Hm, I didn't know you could enable things like that through ABD. I'll look into that, thank you.
*EDIT* Holy crap that actually did it! I uninstalled then reinstalled Play Store through ADB and it's now enabled! Thank you, dude. I really appreciate your help!
So can you download, use apps from playstore.

Yep. Still can't factory reset, but the Play Store is working as expected. Installed a few things and reloaded several times. Everything is still there.

@Trism you literally saved my life, I had the same issue and resolved throug adb. Still disapperared the reset functions.
I bought this motherboard in china as used but it's from UK, a the first start enrolled with knox.
I think it was a display unit, not a live demo unit but a real demo unit with special enrollment.
Thank you very much
