Hi,
I uploaded this tutorial for you guys. And yes, it's supposed to work with iOS and Android! So, before I start I want to credit @moneytoo for his tutorial to Reset Wear Client and to the creator of Beelink. Let's start!
1) Install ADB on your computer
2) Enable USB Debugging on both, the watch and the phone
3) Download on your computer this APK: http://www.mediafire.com/download/dcurx2wvm60u4u4/com.trainday.androidapps.beelink.apk
4) Install the APK of BeeLink on your watch through ADB. It's done using the following tutorial: http://corbindavenport.com/?p=167
5) Now you should have the app on your phone. The following steps are easy:
Watch is connected with phone A so turn off Bluetooth on this phone.
Execute following command on terminal/cmd (with Wear connected and ADB enabled - doesn't require root).
Code:
adb shell "pm clear com.google.android.gms && reboot"
7) Power on Bluetooth on phone B.
Depending whatever devices were paired previously, confirm pairing code or initiate new pairing using following command (thanks @matejdro) or also use the wear app for that.
Code:
adb shell "am start -a android.bluetooth.adapter.action.REQUEST_DISCOVERABLE"
8) Once this has been done, just enter the BeeLink app and then you're supposed to be able to change the phone whenever you want.
And that's it!
And this should be it. I'm not a developer, therefore I don't know if this works. Thanks! It worked for me. If you have any doubt just ask me! If it worked or you found it useful, please thank me for the post ^^
Does this need to be done each time when switching phones ?
I have a private and business phone I would like to use both with my Gear 2 (running AW).
Nop!

No, once you've installed BeeLink you can switch phones through the app! That's the good point
this is awesome, any plans of releasing a video tutorial for us with not so much technical backgrounds?
thanks for the write up and for finding a solution!

awesome! While on this subject I notice you say to install Beelinks apk via ADB, i'm assuming this is for those who have their watched synced currently with the iPhone?
For those who have it currently synced with an android, wouldn't they be able to install it via the play store?
I have my Huawei watched synced to my Android that I use as the host and then I use arelink to link to my iPhone.
The Idea here for me as Im sure for all of those that are looking at this as a solution is to have it synced to my iPhone without loosing my andriod watch maker faces and also of course using several devices without having to reset and pair their watch.
Thanks again

So, you've got a point. But since Beelink was removed from the playstore there isn't another way rather than installing through ADB the APK I managed to save before it was removed. Therefore, you can only install it through ADB.
I'm pretty sure that Beelink stopped working after one of the Wear updates.
Maybe

Ok, the link should work now.
It does. Thanks so much!
I've got my watch purring along nicely on iOS with custom faces installed via adb. Setup took a long time, so I'm reticent to mess things up by trying this right now -- especially considering that the last method (Wear Reset Client) didn't work for switching between iOS and Android. But I will be anxiously awaiting reports from other iPhone users about whether Beelink actually does the trick.
i get the error below when trying to install the apk. After I download the apk do I need to prepare it somehow?
error: device '(null)' not found
- waiting for device
then it just stays there nothing happens.
any ideas?
Thanks
OK - two things.
1. In your tutorial, you mention installing the BeeLink app onto the watch, but none of your steps say how or when to use it.
2. After multiple tries, I could not get this to go from Android to iOS. I once got the watch paired with the iPhone, but not with Android Wear. I could get it to pair back to my Android phone, but was never able to have it show up on the iOS version of Android Wear. I tried with/without BeeLink, tried unpairing from the watch menu, etc. Nothing. Any ideas?

I get stuck when executing the last code:
adb shell "am start -a android.bluetooth.adapter.action.REQUEST_DISCOVERA BLE"
shows an error. I have beelink installed on both the watch and the Android phone but not sure if this is normal theres no actual beelink application that is visible - for me to select or open on either device?
any ideas?

I tried to make this work but its not working for me. I got all the way to installing beelink on the Android phone and the watch - (no physical app shows up) I reboot and set the watch to discoverable but i cant connect the watch using the wear app on the iphone..
Have you followed the guide?

So, the only thing I can tell you is to either factory reset it and start over or uninstall ADB on your computer and install it again following Corbin's guide

What watch do you have? And for the first question, you must use it after you've paired the watch with the second phone. There you'll have to turn off bluetooth on the phone that it was previously connected, and Beelink will show you a list of phones that can connect to your watch

Yea I had figured that piece out. Thanks
I don't believe the beelink app is compatible with the latest update that the huawei watch just released, android 5.1.1
I can see the beelink app installed by going through the advance setting app under the "app" option, it shows up. Besides the ADB showed as the install as a success without any errors. So I have no clue why I don't find the app for me to launch it on the watch, that's what seems to be missing, no? How do I launch the beelink app?
Silly question then, does the watch need to be rooted for the beelink app to work?
I'm at a lost here.. Not sure what to do next.
I have no idea. Sorry.

Can anyone help me get my TABLET S (non-XPERIA) back to the pre-Revision 5 release of 4.0.3?
I HATE, HATE, HATE R5. Took away so many things that I was using, and I want to go back.
I already called SONY and was told I can't go back. I told the guy...I will find a way - and hung up.
I am sure it can be done....just need to find the software and the steps to do it.

Simple as. Change vendor/vendor.prop incremental to a lower number and flash an older update.zip
Or use AIO and install rescue back door, boot loop protection.
Manually flash either 120803002 or 120410004.zip
Done

While I appreciate the reply, which gives you credit for a post (yes - I know how these forums work), I asked for the steps and software. I know it can be done, as I did it to my DroidX phone and had someone give me step by step instructions (rather directed me to a post he had done a year before with had everything I needed in one place).
I am talking real steps 1)...2)...3)... and links to the files. Not just some partial filenname which sends me on a goose chase.
Someone in another forum directed me to download signed-nbx03_001-ota-120410004.zip but then gave me nothing more - like do I put it on an SD CARD and do something with it. How do I get into BootLoader mode so that I can apply it, etc. I have already paid for a couple of apps that I used when I did my phone - I am sure that they might work for my tablet as well.
I am no idiot, do not need Crayola drawings, but at least 6th grade steps and locations on how to do this.
I cannot believe that for $350.00 that I just paid for the table SONY would tell me you can't do it - nor do they offer a manner to go back to the previous level (1 step) if you do not like the ROM that got installed.
4.0.3 (r5) is for the birds....takes away some of the best features of the reason I bought the SONY Tablet S over something else.
While I do appreciate, and do thank/reward those that help me - I think I need a little more than a simple 3 line response.

If you KNEW these forums you would know that we do not take kindly to those who do not use the SEARCH function. It is there so we don't have to repeat ourselves over and over again.
None the less.
If you can't manage this then take it in to Sony saying that you are having issues with the camera (they will restore it to original 3.2 software)
Step One
Root your device.
See my FAQ LINKS IS ALSO IN MY SIGNATURE!!
Step Two
Use AIO to 'Install "rescue-backdoor" [anti-bootloop protection].'
First you want to download, then extract to a folder, then double-click on S.onyTablet.S.bat, this will open a menu, enter '4' then press enter then enter '1' and press enter again. MAGIC, you have now decreased your incremental, well done.
Step 3

Step 4
Copy signed-nbx03_001-ota-120803002.zip to your SD card. Google how to if you don't know
Step 5

P.S this is not hard stuff
Stifilz,
Thank you so very much for the long post. I was going cross-eyed looking for something like that...surprised that no-one has STICKY'd that one.
So I checked out #1 - followed the directions in FAQ to put the ADB path into the my DOS PATH statement (ahhhhh. the good old days - DOS). I can go to the DOS prompt and type 'adb' from any directory and it will bring up the ADB menu - hence it is working.
So I went to the task manager and verified that ADB.EXE was not listed. I typed ADB DEVICES (lower case) and it gave me the following:
C:\Windows\system32>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
C:\Windows\system32>:
I made sure that the SONY TABLET is seen - I unplugged from the computer and re-plugged, Windows bonks and wants to know if I want to browse the device. I have made sure the USB DEBUGGING is enabled on the device (before I connect it - had that problem with my DROIDX). Still the ADB 0.29 is not seeing the SONY TABLET S.
Any Ideas why?
When I try running the RUNME.BAT file I get the following:
D:\ROOT_W_RESTORE>runme
======================================================================
= This script will root your Android phone with adb restore function =
= Script by Bin4ry (thanks to Goroh_kun and tkymgr for the idea) =
= Idea for Tablet S from Fi01_IS01 =

Device type:

2) Special (for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab)
x) Unroot
Make a choice: 2
Special mode:
1) Root
2) Rollback
Make a choice: 1
Tablet S mode enabled!
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
and it just sits there...left it for 20 minutes while I was making dinner. Should I have the power plugged in at the same time? Do I need to enable the STAY AWAKE setting?
Your guidance is again requested.
Please ignore my previous response. I really am not an ass - I was getting frustrated during my 2+ hours search not finding a message such as yours with the steps laid out like that - without making you bounce from one post to another - to another, it was like a scavenger hunt.
Again accept my thanks and my apologies.

Hey...THANKS. not sure why I did not catch that the tablet did not show as adb device, as I had to do the same thing when I rooted my DroidX...I guess I assumed that it would do it from that install.

SO FAR SO GOOD. Weird that the SD card does not show from the tablet with it in the SD slot on the tablet like it does on my DROIDX. You can copy files to and from the SD Card in the phone without taking it out.
See...you can teach an old bear new tricks.

stifilz,
Well I was successful...but it killed my ROOT. I got to playing with the new load, and it looks to have kept a bunch of my apps and some settings, but some of the apps do not work well.
I take it that if I go though the process again and choose to NOT RESTORE, it will put it back to OUT OF BOX configuration?
I do not have a lot of customizations that I will have a problem re-doing to get it back to O-O-B configuration. All of my apps can be pulled back off GOOGLE PLAY. Learning that is advantageous to have a GOOGLE PLAY account for each device (he he).
There are a lot of apps that I have noticed on GOOGLE PLAY that say not compatible with my device. Any known reason why? I figured that open source was open source.
I saw in the AIO that you can change the device type of your tablet to something else. Have you ever tried that? Does it seem to work?
I have also read that the UK models have a slot for a SIM card. Do you know if the US models have it to - just maybe inside and inaccessible?
I am loving the tablet....but find that now that I am back on the 4.0.3 my media files on my HTPC will not play. I find this wierd. The 4.0.3 update - according to the SONY site, says it improves the H.264 file playing...and nothing is mentioned about any changes in the R5 update.
Also one thing I noticed about the R5 load was it would sometimes just turn OFF the tablet. No reason or rhyme to it. Ever hear of that?
I may wind up going back up - if I cannot get them to play...have yet to try copying one to the SD card and playing it. But all of them used to play before I went back down.
Been looking into codecs too - but most of the processing of streamed DLNA stuff is done on the host machine [ putting on the Sherlock Holmes outfit again ]
Thank again for all your insight.

bearhntr, I have been struggling trying to get my tablet to show up when I type in adb devices. I was having the same problem you had before you wrote this post. I followed the directions in Bluechips post for the ADB installer (very huge thanks for all those who develop these things to make it easier) and even did step by step with the video. I have also tried other methods to get ADB to work.
Long story short, did you do anything different than listed in Bluechips post to achieve success in getting your computer to see your tablet as an ADB device?
Thanks!

Esonnen,
I followed the steps from BLUECHIPS direction step by step. Are you seeing the tablet at all in the Windows Device manager? Mine was showing up in the device manager - but not correctly until I installed the drivers.
I right mouse button clicked on the SONY TABLET S entry in the device manager in Windows and chose UPDATE DRIVER...then pointed it to the extracted AdbWinUsbApi.dll file. Followed the prompts and after that the SONY TABLET was listed in an new CATEGORY called ANDROID PHONE, as ANDROID COMPOSITE ADB INTERFACE.
I found that if I did not get it to show as this in the DEVICE MANAGER, nothing I tried with ADB or other tools that used that software would work. This was the same problem I had when I was working with my DROIDX. I had thought that by getting the DROIDX to work properly in the rooting process - that the tablet would as well. It was the simple act of changing the driver to the AdbWinUsbApi.dll that fixed it.

I had already tried that player and it also downloaded the ARMv7 CODEC set to the tablet.
This player may work fine...but it wants the files to be LOCAL to the device or streamed from a WEBPAGE type arena.
I want something that will stream DLNA (the tablet sees all three of my Windows DLNA device and my Sony STR-DN1020 receiver) using the DLNA services that are in 4.0.3. It even shows me the folders on my HTPC. I can also list the movies on it. Where the 4.0.3(r5) showed an actual thumbnail of the first frame of the .M4V files - the 4.0.3 shows what appears to be a set of hotair balloons.
Touching one of the files yields the following error: "INVALID MEDIA - PLAYBACK NOT SUPPORTED" These files play fine on the HTPC and my D-LINK DSM-750 Media Center Extender (and in 5.1 audio). Generally with DLNA the decoding is handled at the source PC, not the playback device. I find this weird too.
Maybe I will try copying one of these files to the device and try playing it from there....try and narrow it down.
GORDO79,
Not sure what has happened, but my Tablet S is now playing the videos from my HTPC. The details of all the videos hows VIDEO CODEC: UNKNOWN and AUDIO CODEC: UNKNOWN, but all of them seem to be playing.
I searched the GOOGLE PLAY STORE, but do not find any codecs listed there other than the ones for various players.
I am so happy now that I can play my videos and I think I will be able to THROW them to my DSM-750 (Media Center Extended) until I can get a BRAVIA TV (hint hint Santa).
Much thanks for everyone's help.

Again many thanks for your help with this. Not sure why the ROOT broke when I did the deed (and I was successful), but I tried to get my root back following your steps again (other than flashing with the .ZIP from the SD card), and I cannot seem to get my ROOT back. Neither the AIO or the ROOT W/RESTORE works.
I wanted to use the AIO to turn off the OTA prompt and run a few of the tweaks, but each time I run it - the screen goes red and tells me I have to ROOT.
Any ideas where I am going wrong?

Hello, i found a gear fit2 while out jogging, advertised to try find the owner and no one replied, so now i have this unit ....i did a factory reset and of course now the activation lock is on by the original owner. Is there a way of resetting this so i can use it? Is it a firmware installation process i need to do to solve this? or do i just throw it in the rubbish bin?
Thanks in advance for any help.
same issue when bought a Gear S2 on ebay. Returned the watch, can not do anything to remove activation lock easily.
For Gear S2 there is a guy wich can unlock with remote PC connection and it ask $45 (search youtube for Gear S2 activation lock).
I BOUGHT THE FILES. once i have done the process and check it works i will post the links here for free. if someone can help me creating the tutorial that will be nice (im lazzy) will hit with news soon as i have them

Hi did you ever finish? I would be happy to pay you some$ for the files. I'd rather pay you than one of these jerks trying to extort money from people on youtube.
So it's not hard to put the thing into download mode wireless, and connect to it over wifi with my computer. the rest of the process and the files though, I don't have.
Thanks
I paid
I paid 30usd and he unlocked it for me. It works great. 1hr.
What ADB Commands are Needed?
Getting the files is not a big deal, it's what you do once you have them that matters. The part that's missing that all the Shady greedy unlock service providers try to hide from you when they do the removal process, are the ADB Commands they use to remove the activation lock.
Basically they use net Odin and recovery wireless download mode (AP) to flash firmware revision that lets you enter developer mode and enable ADB, and then ADB into the Gear Fit 2 and remove the lock via ADB command, while they have Echo off to hide what they're doing in the command window.
after it's done and you reboot, you net Odin flash to regular retail firmware. And you're done
Does anyone know the ADB Commands are once the Fit 2 is connected, to remove activation lock?
Could be common to what is done for Samsung's other Tizen smart watches.

Do you still have the steps? Other than the files what are the ADB Commands once connected? Thanks
Steps for everyone else since the OP seems to have disappeared. Here is the basics, what we're missing are the ADB commands to remove the actual protection. Someone can fill in the blank please since I saw everything but those commands (they were hidden)
1. Download Net Odin and install. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1...WhHTzFLNHhTbUk - Also have ADB installed on your computer. Minimal ADB and Fastboot is one package you can use for this.
2. Also youll need to download a gear fit 2 factory diagnostic? firmware here ver U1DQH1 works - http://www.gsm-file.com/files/factorysw-combination-file-6378 . And a set of normal firmware. Such as from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1...Wp6MnNsWHpLelE
3. Hold power down on gear fit 2 until you see rebooting in blue, while it says that hit power button 2-3 times to get to bootloader menu. use power to move to Download (wireless) and hold power down to select. as soon as it enters Download wireless mode, hit power twice quickly to change to AP mode.
4. Run Net Odin and leave it running. Then go to your wireless settings and connect to the now-visible Gear Fit 2. After a few minutes, Net Odin should show an IP address in the box on the left.
5. Click the AP button in Net Odin and load the unzipped combination FTMA file you downloaded above. Hit Start and flash it. Once done, Fit 2 will reboot to a screen with yellow diagnostic info. Hit Power, settings, connection, wifi, turn it on, then connect to your wireless internet connection.
6. Once connected, then touch that network connection in the Fit 2 connection list to open up details, and note the ip address (example: 192.168.201.12).
7. Hit back button to go back into settings, then Gear Info, then enable developer mode (this enables ADB), then hit back to back out of settings menu
8. Open up a command prompt window in the directory where you have adb.exe, and type adb connect IPADDRESS:26101
- note IPADDRESS is your Ip address you noted above, and the :26101 is a port number. So using above example, I would type:
adb connect 192.168.201.12:26101
9. Once connected, type adb devices and you should see it listed.
10. THIS IS THE MISSING STEP - here are the ADB commands to remove the activation lock settings/flags. SOMEONE PLEASE FILL THIS IN
11. Once step 10 is done, hold power to reboot your Fit 2 (it's ready to be flashed with retail firmware), and just like before, but it into Download wireless mode, and AP mode.
-to check if the lock is removed, you can instead first select download mode (USB) instead of wireless, and see if it says ACTIVATION LOCKFF to confirm/doublecheck
12. In Net Odin take your unzipped retail firmware files and place each file as named in filenames, in the appropriate slots for AP, CSC, and BL. Hit Start to flash.
13. Once done and rebooted, should be clean and good to go.
These steps should pretty much encapsulate the process of what these guys are doing via Teamviewer, it's the ADB steps we are missing. Hopefully there's someone out there not trying to profit off of everyone whos nice enough to help us fill that part in. Thanks.
Thanks PaulieP for the tutorial... I need this but your files on drive are 404, can you add shared link please
I just found a gear fit2 on my bike ride this morning. I'd be pretty upset if I lost this myself so I wanted to see what my options are for returning it to its owner. With technology today, I'd assume that there's gotta be some way to find the owner of a device...
Does anyone have any ideas

Guess they pulled the files but it doesn't matter, there are a lot of places to download Net Odin. For the factory firmware you can also get it from the other site (gsm-files).
I want to reiterate though that those files are useless in removing activation lock unless we have the ADB commands the unlockers use - as mentioned in the missing step 10 of the tutorial.

They do it exactly the way I outlined in the tutorial / step-by-step, that is the only way any of them that offer paid services do it.
Again, the only way we are able to do it ourselves, is if someone fills in the missing ADB commands for us that these unlockers keep hidden when they are connected via Teamviewer.
The files will not help you without this information above, there is no bypass without those ADB commands to remove the reactivation lock from a Samsung Tizen device.

I understand but dis you download a factory diagnostic firmware ? I want to try
so I might be doing the youtube activation removal process for the gear fit 2 that I found on my bike ride. so far I've read prices ranging form $30-$45. Does anyone know what's the lowest price paid for this "service"?
second. I'm not totally clear on how the process works but I assume that someone remotely connects to my machine, with the watch connected, and runs some unknown adb commands on my system. This leads me to my second question. If I pay for this service, is there any way to capture the keystrokes by using some sort of key logger?
If anyone can help me out with finding this information, I'll gladly post the adb commands for anyone to use

The process works exactly how I outlined in my step by step a few posts back.
The missing part are the ADB commands which are hidden valley the use of Echo Off in the command window .
You will need some sort of keylogger or capture that will record even keystrokes in a command prompt window with Echo Off.

I found a few options. I'm not sure how to test to see if any of these will work: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/free-and-simple-keylogger-to-monitor-keystrokes-in-windows/
...and not WearOS because this is from an Android 5.1.1 build from 2015
I talked about the Wear framework in this thread, and how it can be partially installed onto the Pace and Stratos
THIS DOES NOT MEAN A FULLY WORKING ANDROID WEAR BUILD!
It doesn't connect to the Wear app, even after installing all the APKs required and following the correct setup procedure (some bluetooth error, even after patching it with the supposed workaround for normal apps, it doesn't work - maybe the Bluetooth stack on these watches doesn't work for Wear)
What it does allow is for standalone wear apps with really simple functions to work. Good examples of this are Wear Bottle Spinner (eliseo.wearbottlespinner.wear) and Interval timer for Android Wear (wearablesoftware.wearintervaltimer), which on this list are "not working" due to lack of wear framework, but work after these files have been copied.
Please do not attempt this if you want a fully stable device, or don't feel comfortable debugging. It may not work for you, and you may end up having to post crash logs or have a not-working device. This is a development thread, it's not fully ready for use yet
Installation
- Download this zip
- Extract it and run the following commands from the folder
Code:
adb root
adb remount
adb push com.google.android.wearable.jar /system/framework
adb push clockwork-system.jar /system/framework
adb push com.google.android.wearable.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb push clockwork-system.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb push ClockworkAmbient.apk /system/priv-app/ClockworkAmbient/ClockworkAmbient.apk
adb reboot
I think this is all that's needed for it to work. My test device has more Wear framework APKs on it than are needed, so I'm not totally sure. If it crashes after doing this, please post a logcat and I'll see if anything else is needed - that's why this is a DEV thread!
These files were taken from the last Android 5.1.1 Wear build for the Gear 2 (itself a port): https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-2/development/please-help-kernel-compiling-android-t2992953
From having followed the AW porting thread for the Samsung Gear S back in the days I can say the following things:
The Bluetooth stack is indeed different between normal Android and Android Wear but IIRC it should be at least theoretically possible to make it work unless Xiaomi/Huami modified it.
To connect to the AW app it will also require to have all the AW GAPPS properly setup AND the fingerprint of a watch it will recognize with said AW version, even an AW port just won't connect with the app unless there is a proper fingerprint setup in build.prop
On another note great job on doing this and I will be testing it out later today when I will have some free time and an easy way of getting said AW apps.
Hello Quinny, I think you're doing a great job, and it's appreciated. What is the scope of this? I am clear that we will not see Android Wear on our devices, but can Google services and applications be installed? Or would it only be used to install certain applications?
Thanks for your contributions.

It's to make apps that rely on the Wear framework classes work, but only those that are standalone

You have to boot (not flash) an boot image with root support and run the commands directly then.
Do a search for root Amazfit, there are some guides.

Yes.
I have an issue with my M20P. I got the phone 12 days ago and everything was fine with notifications up until yesterday. As of right now, I am NOT receiving notifications for whatsapp, gmail,* FB, messanger on time. They're constantly late and usually show up only when I actually go into one of the apps, then the content shows up and syncs, I guess.
I decided to manually launch important apps such as gmail, messanger, whatsapp and I checked all 3 boxes (primary, secondary and background launch). And this morning, after some 9 hours of not touching the phone, I woke up and there were some notifications (quite a few actually) and I was happy thinking the issue's gone but I was curious why there were no messanger and gmail notifications (two of my most active apps) and* I was right... as soon as I entered gmail, the mail that I did NOT receive notification for came on top of queue and messanger literally blew with how many notifications came at once. Other apps, less important, followed with some notification.
I'm worried because I actually decided to manually launch apps I use the most and still, the issue persists, even though most of users had this sorted with manual launching...
So yes, manual launching did not fix it for me
Is there anything else I should do and what?
And also, I have found out that this has only happened thus far on WiFi, my home WiFi. Mobile data doesn't seem to be affected. Will have to confirm though. I don't know if that's an important information...
Please help. I don't wanna sell the phone because other than this bs I like it very much

That's the only fix available. You could unpack and decompile PowerGenie and see what's inside. A bunch of routines that try to identify apps that require being online, plus a bunch of hardcoded apps that are allowed to run in the background. That's Facebook and a bunch of Chinese apps. But everything else is being sent to sleep aggressively.
I tried every other setting available and still, the PowerGenie rendered any background app unusable.
You don't need to debug anything. Just turn on debugging, so you can disable PowerGenie. If you want to use your phone the way it is supposed to work, you have to get rid of PowerGenie. Using the ADB method is the only possible way I am afraid.

I appreciate the thorough report. Before I do that, I'll run some over night tests to see if this perhaps is just due to my WiFi. For example, I'll leave the phone over night with WiFi disabled and mobile data on. If I receive all the notifications at the time they should have been received - I'll know the issue is with my WiFi and I'll update it to static and use the pre-set DNSs I found online.
I'm guessing you had the same issue... did it only work for you when you disabled powergenie? Have you tried perhaps what I will - to see if it was a WiFi issue? Or did it happen to you on mobile data too?
And what I find EXTREMELY weird - I had P20 Pro like until 15 days ago, updated to EMUI 9 and it received all the notifications on time. Is this solely M20P issue?
My issue was the Blackberry mobile device management suite, my company uses. Those apps use Android for work, so a separate encrypted partition (and a different user id), open a VPN tunnel and fetch emails in the background.
I have tried every possible solution, like turning off startup control, enabling those apps to run in the background, even checked special permissions, tried different hacks, reset my device multiple times, ... . Nothing helped. The VPN tunnel was capped after a few minutes and even if I opened it manually (by starting the app), the email app was sent to sleep hence not receiving anything.
I started digging around and found a way to disable system-apps even when you cannot disable them from the Android menus. I pulled a copy and decompiled it. This PowerGenie app has routines to identify apps that have widgets, pull a lot of power, have notifications, ... . And it has a list of package names (Android apps) that are never sent to sleep. Stuff like Facebook and Chinese apps. As I started digging around I found this to be a commonly reported issue with Huawei smartphones of all flavours. I think they built that in to mask the fact that Kirin has a higher standby drain than Qualcomm and Samsung. I am just assuming that..
For me this definitely wasn't an issue with my WLAN, DNS or the likes. Now without the PowerGenie, when I turn off the flight mode in the morning, the VPN app is connecting automatically and my Blackberry Hub is pulling all emails. WhatsApp, Gmail, even third party calendar apps now show their notifications in time. So I am happy.
Did it have any influence on my battery life? no, not at all.
I did the same for a couple of colleagues having the same phone and issues and they all are very happy now.
My company even stopped supporting Huawei phones because of these issues.
I can't comment on the P20 unfortunately as this was my first Huawei. But maybe the fact that you were upgrading from Oreo to Pie was the difference here.

1) from your laptop
2) Follow the link, perform the steps in the tutorial below "How to Setup the Android Debug Bridge (ADB)".
Then scroll down to the part titled "Microsoft Windows ADB Setup". Download the file from the link and unpack to c:\adb (you will have to create the folder).
Then you connect your phone to your laptop and will see a prompt for authenticating your laptop. This is all well documented, just follow the link

Thank you for bearing with me and explaining. Just one more thing. On the second code, what do you mean by "maybe"?

2) Follow the link, perform the steps in the tutorial below "How to Setup the Android Debug Bridge (ADB)".
Then scroll down to the part titled "Microsoft Windows ADB Setup". Download the file from the link and unpack to c:\adb (you will have to create the folder).
Then you connect your phone to your laptop and will see a prompt for authenticating your laptop. This is all well documented, just follow the link

Hey, I finally gave in and tried to do this but I am having so much trouble doing this mate. Could you please explain like you're talking to a child? My computer skills are abysmal. I downloaded these 2 links you said on my laptop. But I am stuck at step 2. Here are the screenshot to see where I got held up lol
gyazo.com/6541fa024b72309323ab6ed889e19420
gyazo.com/727b043a651185da8761ca8c72d8917a
gyazo.com/d510eef1ce22dde74362a670051b1d7d
When I right click on "platform tools" it gives me several options such as "extract to a specified folder" and I clicked on that (I dont know if thats right) and what do I do now? I am confused with the steps provided in the link. "Extract the contents of this ZIP file into an easily accessible folder (such ad C:\adb)" I dont know where and how to do that
Then it says "Open Windows explorer and browse to where you extracted the contents of this ZIP File" what does this mean?
And 3rd step dont even get me started.
Could you by any chance upload a video of going through all that and doing everything needed up until running the command to.disable power genie? Im lost man
@klaus27
As much as I would like to help you, I think it would make more sense if you ask someone physically around you for help. I don't think I can make it more simple than that and explaining that in such a detail without knowing what system you have is quite complicated.... But I am sure that if you show the instructions to someone with a little bit more experience, it would be a lot simpler...
Sorry I cannot help you further...

Hello,
I have acquired an Acer tablet that we used for my grandparents called GrandPad by Consumer Cellular. There is a really stripped down software/OS on it that is more "elderly friendly". I know the user interface is built on top of Android (maybe 6.0-6.1). My question is how to I find a custom ROM and installation instructions on this so I can make this thing a decent functioning tablet? I'm having a hard time finding anything about this. Not sure if Acer took another variant of their tablet and made it exclusive to Consumer Cellular.
Here's all the info I have on it. Not sure how to access the Android info on top of the current software.
Model: A6201
SNID: 81790091576
S/N: FFHZ8AA008817DBF337602
Hi there , I would try to look if theres any rom for it , can you upload screenshots of the ui? Also , please remove the IMEI part as it is not necessary and it is a potential security risk for you if someone uses it .

Hello ThatLatinGuy,
I have tried endlessly searching for a ROM. I just can't find much info at all on ACER Android tablets in general, and much less on this specific model they made for a cellular company.
As far as the stock UI, you can do a web search for GrandPad Consumer Cellular. Apparently I can't give the link because I don't have 10 post yet.
After posting this, I did hold down the (power and +- volume) button and got to the Android recovery screen to do a factory reset thinking it would reset back to Android 6.0.1. I did work....sort of. The "grandpad" UI is no longer there, but it does boot up to some application called "GrandPad Eagle". I assume this is some kind of software they ran on top of Android when developing the tablet's interface??? There is an option on that screen to do a hardware test. When I touch on that it opens some Android app called Alpaca. From there I can swipe down from the top screen and access the Android settings menu. There's no launcher and I've even tried to sideload .apk apps (with unknown sources turned on) but gives me an error about it can't read file. It let me turn on developer options in the settings.
I can try to upload some images, but every time I go to insert image it wants a link and not a location on this site. Tried Google photos link and that didn't work apparently. Anyway, any settings specifically might help just let me know and I'll try to get it on here somehow...maybe.
Well this sounds really familiar , I was in the same boat a few years ago with a 2012 kindle fire HD so I will try to apply the same principle here . I have also tried to look for information about this tablet and only got the specs , wich are actually pretty good , but anyway does the tablet have an internet browser? if so type fdroid an download the app install it and open it , search for a launcher so you can atleast use the tablet .
If not , how are you sideloading it? with adb ? or does this tablet support mtp?
You can try to upload the pictures to google photos and upload the link with some characters in between (something like : www----photoservice_x2323-com)
Havent found anything about the Granpad Eagle app, although Im pretty sure that your assumptionis correct , and the Alpaca app is equally obscure , so please try to upload the picture of those .
Cheers

The tablet has no browser. Very very limited apps in general. I tried to download the apk apps for chrome and nova launcher. I can push them from my computer to the tablet . But when I touch to install it, I get an error saying it can't read the APK file. Don't know why it would say that. I do have trust unknown sources checked.
I'll see what I can do about the pics.

Update...
I managed to install new apps via ADB. I was able to remove the grandpad eagle from ADB as well. I rebooted the tablet and the Nova Launcher (app I installed) settings came up.
Main problem now is that there is no navigation buttons on the bottom. There's no way I can go back or home. Not sure yet how to enable them. It's a bit annoying when you can't go back to the home screen or switch apps.

Gotcha , download this apk and push it , its like that floating button in the iphone it is not a perfect solution but it works .
https://home-button.uptodown.com/android
For a cleaner solution , try this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5qcD8t0o2M
its gesture based , but it looks better .
Thanks,
Even though the OEM stuff is off...the Android OS is still a little quirky. For example, there is no way to put it to sleep with the hardware buttons. And I have to hit the power and volume up button to power it off. Just random stuff like that.
Oh well, it's better than it was. Just wish I could do a fresh restore without the OEM stuff. Or better yet, a custom ROM. Which seems like is impossible since this tablet is so unique.

hI , did you resolve this problem ?
Hey y'all,
I've been lurking here for quite some time, so it's nice to finally register and become a part of the forums here! At any rate, here goes my first post...
I have this exact tablet and I thought maybe it would be a good starting point for me to try working with ADB and all that. The Acer A6201 I was given appears to have no OS on it, as when booting it I am met with a screen displaying the 'GrandPad Eagle' logo with the Identifier, Serial #, Telephony, and SIM # with barcodes. Also displayed are the buttons: Install, Shutdown, Pick WiFi, About, and Hardware Test. LTE is on (I put my Cricket SIM in it), as well as WiFi. It reads Eagle vc21618-b356. Upon connecting to LTE, it reads:
SyncManager: Sync Device...
RegisterManager: Registering...
EagleAPI: Starting Register...
RegisterManager: Register Success
EagleAPI: Starting Sync...
AutoWIFIManager: doGiraffeWIFISearch >> no matches
That's pretty much it. If I click Hardware Test, it goes to something called Alpaca, which runs through all hardware tests with no issues. From Alpaca I can also pull down the drop down menu which allows me into settings and all that. From there, I've enabled developer mode and USB debugging, as well as install from unknown sources.
As the OP originally stated, there is no web browser and I've had zero luck installing any APKs or anything; I can't even get Chrome on there via ADB.
Any thoughts or advice?
Just wanted to update this thread and see if anyone else has made any progress. I have the Acer A8202 model.
Grandpad apps removed. (until factory reset) use a usb keyboard and hit escape to get access to the system menu then enable developer and adb. Nav bar is under Display. I installed a browser, Aptoide and a launcher via adb. I am still working on the status bar(working in settings but not in all other apps) I believe there is a full screen mode system wide setting on in the build.prop file. temp solution is "Material Status bar" and "Mi control center" for a status bar. Google play services install but constantly crash. I was also able to unlock the bootloader. but to edit the system files will need root and a Twrp img file that doesn't give black screen.

I am looking for it too. There's got to be somebody out there who can provide an OTA package to upload via ADB.

Hrprada, there isn't a Stock package/rom that we can use. In order to side load apps you will need to make sure developer and adb are enabled. Google is your friend to get those. All i did was use a usb keyboard to show the menu. then swipe down.
