i've been having a weird problem with my sms messages. when i look at the details for a certain message, the sent and received timestamps are off by an hour. the received timestamp is correct. the sent timestamp is in the future. it's like this with google hangouts and the stock messaging app. attached is a screenshot of the message details in google hangouts.
has anyone else seen something like this before? any ideas what's causing it and how to fix it? it's not a big deal. just something weird that i'd like to figure out.
i have twrp 2.8.7.0 and am running jasmine 4.0 with the skydragon v0.3.0.2 kernel.
I'm using Verizon Message+, and apparently it doesn't show sent time anywhere. Without me having to change what my default messaging app is, I was thinking that the "Sent date" is only displayed as part of a tweak in G3TweaksBox. Is that correct and is that what you're using to enable that? I don't know if that could cause this issue. Also, does the sender happen to be in a different timezone than you?
Just speculating...

i'm not using G3TweaksBox. i didn't do anything special to enable seeing the sent timestamp. i've always been able to see the message details, which include the sent and received timestamps, by long pressing a message and selecting the details option. most of the people i text with are in the same time zone as me, but i'm still seeing the different times.
anyway, it's not a big deal. i'm curious to see if anyone else has encountered this and knows of a reason or fix.

Every time I receive a picture in an MMS I get another message from "Anonymous" no subject. I open it and it say "message not found" I receive the message multiple times until I delete the original message. This happens in the stock messaging app and in Chomp. Uninstalled Chomp and it still happens on stock.
Rooted running UnNamed v1.0.1
Bump for some help. This is really annoying

Does this happen when you try to send a message to certain people, or just one person in particular? I wonder if maybe it's a read receipt notifying you that it was delivered? I'm on a custom ROM so I can't check. Try going into messaging, hit menu, then select settings.
Otherwise, maybe it's a carrier issue.
No Trojan this happens when I receive picture messages. From anybody on multiple carriers. May be an at&t issue. I think this happened on my Infuse too but don't remember if I ever resolved it

It happened to me on my Atrix. I found if I ignored it and didn't open it, it actually deleted itself. As far as I can tell, it's related to read receipts. Unnamed Rom doesn't offer the ability to request them and I don't think Stock did either but I also don't use a 3rd party messaging Application. Try turning off Read/Delivery Receipts on your device and see what happens.

From what I have been able to tell, it is a Carrier Issue AND read receipt issue.
Anyone found a fix for it yet?
Happened to me today, we both use GoSMS but I think she has enabled delivery receipt.
did you happened to fix it?
I love how people are complaining that this was brought up again in another thread, which in fact led it to being locked even though there is no answer on this board. It is really annoying getting those messages. I have searched "blank anonymous", "blank message", and just "anonymous". Only two threads come up that are related to this issue. This one, and the one that was just locked. So if anyone truly has an answer to this issue and doesn't worry about trying to look cool by insulting users, please provide the answer, or at least point us in the right direction.
Thanks
I found a way that worked for my phone. I'm using ChompSMS and I would always get those and they would keep popping up.
All I had to do was open Chomp settings > SMS & MMS Network > MMS Network Settings > set "auto retrieve" to UNCHECKED.
I cant confirm that this will work (especially if you dont use Chomp as default), but it did work well for me. Good Luck

I've tried that. It doesn't do anything. Once I download the mms I'll get the anonymous message.
I've had this issue when I was on my Captivate. I tried flashed a few different ROMs and even went back to stock and the issue was still there. It was one of the reasons why I upgraded to the GS2 before my contract expired. However, the issue appeared on the new phone. The real problem was that my SIM card was messed up. Once they replaced my SIM card, everything was working fine again.

I have a huge and annoying messaging problem on stock. Here's my problem. I text somone and the conversation is formed. When they text me back their message pops up on top of mine and says I've received it at a completely different time! When I text back, the message appears directly below my other message I sent... and so on.. So the messages get all jumbled up! This is REALLYannoying.. HELP?
ANYONE????!!!!
Which ROM are you using and which messaging app?
I'm using stock ROM (2.1 Update 1 with sense).. with the default messaging app.

You know my problem? or not?
Ok. One thing to try. Go to 'manage applications ' then delete data from messages app. This shouldn't delete your messages but you may want to back them up first. Then restart your phone. That is all I can suggest, unless you have thousands of messages, in which case I' d suggest to delete quite a few. Other than that I don't know unless its a carrier problem.
Just thought of one more obvious answer. Go to date and time settings and see if 'network provided values' is checked

Tried it, I'm texting someone now and once I get the response back I should be able to tell if ticking this option changed anything

Aw man. It didn't work Too bad. Thanks for the help anyway. I'll continue my searches.
The time stamps for the incoming text messages seem to arrive at completely different times (FYI)
Anyways if you could offer any further help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I solved it.. I installed SMS Time Fix by Matthew Precious (from the android market) and it fixed my problem.. Thanks for all the help though
It's absolutely ridiculous that it shows the received time of text messages with no way of seeing the sent time. I can manually fix it for a message if I edit the /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db database by using Root Explorer and SQLite Editor. I do this by copying the value from the "date_sent" column to the "date" column in the "sms" table. But having to do this for each message received is inconvenient. Is it possible to make the phone display the sent time for received messages?
Anyone?
i believer there's a mod for that over at the Themes&Apps section, not quite sure though. you should check it out there
I have searched but can't find a mod that works. Using ICS. Can you give me a link to a mod that works?
i use gosms which does this for me. the cm9/10 sms app also has this feature i think
I have tried GO SMS but still only get the received time. How do I get it to display the sent time?
I'm not sure actually! I always put on delivery reports and change one or two settings. There used to be an option to turn that on but it seems to have been removed. However, I still get sent time on mine. Sorry it's not more help than that.
I have now found that GO SMS shows the sent time on new messages but not the ones that were received before it was installed. I don't understand why.
Has anyone else noticed that on the stock messaging app, the timestamp on messages is wrong? I just realized what it is showing, it is showing the date/time of the last MMS message, not the last message of any type. If I change the view (at the bottom) from "All Messages" to "SMS/MMS", it updates and shows the correct timestamp, but if I go back to "All Messages" (which it defaults to every time i leave and re-enter the app) it shows the wrong timestamp again.
Is this something everyone with the DNA is experiencing or just me? Is there a fix? If not is there some way to make HTC aware of this (or is this an android problem)?
Thanks!
this has plagues sense phones since they originated. there are a few fixes I think but ive grown so used to it I dont pay it any attention anymore
yeah, hit the "SMS/MMS" tab and its the correct time. All Messages it where the problem lies.

Correct, I was aware of that (I mentioned it in my first post), but thank you anyways for your help. I was hoping there was a way to make all messages correct also (or to default the messages app to start up on sms/mms tab).
Not a huge deal, but an annoyance that doesn't make any sense. Is there any way to make sure HTC is aware of this issue? Maybe get it fixed in a future update?

no worries, i appreciate you taking the time to respond. I will live with it and hopefully someday HTC realizes there is no good reason to display MMS only timestamps in this case haha.

Its not that the text messages have the wrong time embedded in them. It'd that the messaging app is displaying the time of the most recent mms, not message on general, in the thread view.

Im running liquid smooth kit kat version Build Feb 15 with Polluti0n's Rom Patch. Some incoming text messages seems to disappear into oblivion. I've seen instances where text messages wont show until a reboot of the phone but nnever where the messages simply never show up. Has anyone else experienced this?

You had to know this was coming.........
If a text doesnt show up, how do you kniw its missing?
On my phone, but my guess is, you are new and post count is too low to post in development.
Have you searched the thread for similar issue?
I would say if it has not been documented before, you will be asked if this was a clean install?
Next would be to you format system?
I would flash again as I always flash twice anyway.

Ive only been running this rom for a couple of weeks but there have been maybe 4 to 5 instances where friends or coworkers have sent me a text that never made it to my phone. They did not get a "failed message" response either. None of these messages have ever shown up on my phone. I haven't seen any one else talking about it in the main thread for this rom so I thought I would post here and see if any one else has had this happen on any rom. In the past when a Rom had problems with receiving text messages I would reboot my phone and then they would all come piling in. I haven't reinstalled the rom yet so I suppose that is the next step to try.
Did some more digging and I think it may have to do with Google hangouts. It seems there have been quite a few people who have had problems with Hangouts being the default SMS app.
