I installed Fire OS 5 developer preview on my Kindle fire hd 7 4th gen
can anyone tell me how to downgrade it back to 4.5.5 ?
First unsubscribe from the developer updates in the amazon dev center, then in the root guides, when you do the ADB sodeload you are re-flashing 4.X.X

Noticed the following post in the 2015 Kindle Fire forum. If confirmed serves as good news for Saturn owners once upgraded to FireOS 5:
Installing Google Framework/Playstore without Root 5th Gen Amazon Fire 7in 2015 ONLY
"Works flawlessly on HDX 8.9 4th gen saturn on FireOS 5.1.1. Ran the bat, restart device and voila all is well"
Hopefully can leverage knowledge from the 2015 Fire to obtain root on HDX build of FireOS 5.x and open the potential for custom roms. That said, rootless Playstore access is a nice start.

I am a newbie and if it’s possible, I would like to change my kindle to android so I can use Google Play Store. I can follow instructions, hence my asking these questions before I make a start.
1. Do I need to root my kindle first. If yes would that be using kingroot and how?
2. Do I install Safestrap V4?
3. What Rom would I need? Also what does flashing mean?
4. I’ve also read about bootloader…is this something else I need to do.
I know there are no guarantees when doing something like this, which is why I am asking the above.. If I could be guided with some bullet points as to what order things need to be done that would be a great help. I will obviously read up about what I am doing for each procedure, to limit any errors, and to give me a better understanding as to what I am doing.
many thanks
Alexandra

- don't register device when first started
- do not enable WiFi (maintain network isolation)
- find version number under settings
- if 5.3.2.1 or above device can not be rooted

Hi,
you can do by looking up your serial number. Or you open adb and issue the command "devices" it will bring you up the serial number. Or you install DroidInfo then it shows the Kindle codename in the app

Check the Serial Number
You can find this sixteen digit code in the box your Kindle came in or when you click on Settings and go to Device Info. Find your specific generation or type based on the first four characters.

Hello,
I have HDX 8.9 4gen with lastest versions of fire os (5.6.1).
It's so laggy and i want revert to previous version of fire os.
Is there any solution? I can't find here.

Nope. HDX devices do not support rollbacks w/o root. As you likely know root is not an option given your current FireOS build. Best option is to perform a factory reset (removes ALL personal content) which may or may not improve responsiveness. HDX has plenty of muscle to handle FireOS 5.6 and the various pre-installed apps that come with it. Likely a config or content interaction issue.
