Should I buy it? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I'm planning on buying a new phone (my 2013 Moto x is too old!) and I think the edge is the best phone in the market right now
I'm definitely not a fan of TouchWiz but the latest version is quite better and prettier!
I still have some doubt and I hope you guys can help with my decision (sadly it's still quite expensive..)
- is the battery so bad like all reviews are saying? It is enough to get through the day with a normal usage (wifi, browsing, some calls, some google map, slack, gmail)
- is there any real difference between the isocell and Sony rear camera?
- is there a way to moderate the fish eye effect of the front camera (like in the gopro where you can choose to rectify the photo)
Thanks a lot guys!!
- any issue I should be aware?

Well now that the prices have plummeted, you can buy it without regrets.
I bought it when it came out for the full price. Being an early adopter of Samsung/android hurts... it actually makes me angry...
-battery is ok on wifi, sucks on mobile.. you'll need a powerbank for sure depends how you use it

You could also consider the new nexus or Sony if you're looking for alternatives.
If you're not rooting, get package disabler to remove all the bloatware on the S6. Will give you a better battery
Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

thanks a lot for your tip, but the s6 is already a bit too big for me, the new nexus and sony are really too much
i'm more for 4.7' smartphone, but there are no valid option right now!

Hi all, Thanks in advance.,
I am a Xperia X10i user bought it when it released having android1.6 now got upgraded to 2.3 but its very slow and slaggy in many ways so thought of moving to a new model.
Is this phone good to be bought or can I wait for another few months?
some people say that SGS3 is not worth the money is that so? where as SGS2 is good.
Please guide me based on your experience.

The Galaxy S3 is worth every penny I paid for it. It is also the most powerful phone on the market. It is a purchase that you won't regret.
The screen is hard to read in direct sunlight. The other issue I'm having is that it's hard to stop touching it.
I had an x10 way back about 3 years ago. That phone is like a motor scooter compared to this Ferrari.
The s2 is still an excellent choice if you want an upgrade while keeping costs down but bear in mind the s3 will last you longer before you need another upgrade.

You might also look at the Galaxy Nexus which Google sell for $350. It's only dual core, but it gets latest updates directly from Google, so unlike that Sony, even two years from now you will most likely get latest Android version.
However, if you want more storage space and a high quality camera, then the S3 is a better choice. It's going cheap on ebay also. The current retail price is more than I'm willing to pay because I'm not confident of its build quality.

No problem
To be honest, i am finding the speaker perfectly capable. Not as good as the HTC One obviously but it is better than the normal Xperia Z.
However, i often use headphones so i do not disturb others around me when i am watching video or listening to music etc. The speaker does sound good though and i have not had any issues with it. It sounds quite smooth, also rather full and not tinny. The sound it produces feels like it has some body to it at least.
Where did you get it? I'm trying to get my hands on one in Norway, but it ain't easy. I guess i'll just have to wait until it gets released in Europe in september, but i'm just curious. Nice video btw! I'll take a look at the "BAD POINTS" video now

I ordered mine from a store in Hong Kong. Received it about 6 days after ordering. However I had to pay about 1500,- DKK in customs tax. Total cost was 6900 DKK. I was kinda desperate and had no intentions of waiting until September lol
But yeah, I love the phone. Really really amazing device.

I was the same as you but to be honest 2 things made up my mind.
1: the note 3 will have worse design and look uglier than the Z Ultra. Not as premium.
2: it won't be as big either. I want the biggest phone I can carry so yeah

Here in Denmark we get 3G speeds up to 25 mbits easily. LTE is not really needed by me. I just consider it a battery drain

It cost me £775 including customs vat. Expensive I know but yeah. Being a tech geek isn't cheap haha. Plus I really did not want to wait 2 months for the European release.
Honestly though, I paid about £500 for the HTC one on release and I felt disappointed and had buyers remorse fairly fast.
However, having spent almost £800 on the Z Ultra, I feel nothing but happiness because the device really is that good. I can't emphasise enough just how blazing quick the phone feels and how beautiful the screen is.

I was tempted to do it myself but for the sake of just over a month I think I'll wait. The UK retail is £612 at clove, and that is with a few accessories. I might be able to pick it up cheeper elsewhere.
Im on 3 and due for an upgrade. They have already said they will carry it, but unfortunately I think its going to be bootlocker unlockable version. I will just shop around and pick one up then go on a sim only contract.
Im also waiting to see if someone will bring out a powerjacket device like they did for the Xperia Z.
Looks like it will me my next device though. I like big phones, I have a note 2 and I just bought the mrs the 6.3" mega (she has basic needs). All in all really looking forward to it.

Ah OK, thanks. I think i'll just wait for it to hit the stores here One other thing, how are third party apps? Are they running in phone mode? Tablet mode? I'm going to kick it into tablet mode when the ZU gets rooted (if all apps are running in phone mode), since i personally think it's a waste of space to use phone mode on a screen this size.
First of all thanks for the vids. A bit worried on the battery front so waiting to see what note 3 has to say for itself. You did say battery is as good as note 2 which works well for me st the moment. What a beauty! Home run for Sony at long last.

Nice videos.
I have few questions.
1. Are you facing overheating issues, have you tried playing heavy HD games for long hours. If it does overheat how bearable is it??
2. Few Xperia Z users who have faced with overheating issue have found out that the glass panel has raised near the camera, which is the place of overheating. were you able to see any such issue if it's overheating??
3. Does the screen work if we put the device to a sweaty face ?? our sweat contains a little amount of salt, so if i put the device near to my sweaty ear, will it affect the device and make it unusable ??
Thanks

[Q] Getting the Xperia Z Ultra since no HTC One Max anytime soon

much to my chagrin, the HTC One Max will not be released anytime soon (prior to October). i desperately want a new device and i've decided to get the XZU.
i'm currently on StraightTalk/AT&T and from what i've read, there is no current version of the XZU that will provide 4G, but HSPA+ is attainable.
i stream a great deal of music to my phone, surf the net a lot, a few movies here and there and talk on the phone for less that 200 minutes a month.
- for those of you here in the US, and particularly those on StraightTalk, is there a problem when trying to stream content to your device?
- which model are you using?
- where should i purchase this device from to avoid the dreaded blank screen problem.
- and do you recommend I wait for the 4g variant, instead?
any additional feedback would be most appreciated, as well.

Was really charmed to hear HTC was making a "phablet", but unfortunately a 5..9" can't replace a tablet, I would still need to play around with my N7 and bring both of them. I hope one day I can have a HTC phone again, but seems that since the Sensation XE they never developed something that was matching my needs :crying:
Build quality, design and HTC UI are top notch and devs are at its level. Between a NG3 and One Max no hesitation go Max, but XZU and Max are really different in size.
The extra half an inch on the ZU is great, ask my wife!!
To be very honest I have the Xperia Z , the S4 The Htc one , optimus G pro ( NO I DONT own a mobile shot )
I have not been so pleased with any of the above than the ZU , the best smartphone out there , yes you will miss the IR blaster and flash on this but considering the general daily usage this phone just is the best , 0 viewing angles , its far better than the S4 and the G pro with color reproduction I am so happy sony finally sorted this out... with the Z1 the videos I saw looks like it lacks still the calibration as it still uses the same screen as ZU but has some viewing angles problem must be because of calibration though. but withe slimness of the phone and the amazing battery life and performance multitasking becomes an easy task.
This is defntely recomended above Note 3 simple reason the Note 3 has tooooooo many software gimicks which in the end you wont use at the same time no one to sit and teach you all those and you would nt have time either or all those features hog battery and to save battery you will end up turning them off...
That's good to hear. Is it safe to assume that waiting until the 13th for the LTE varient is a better idea? Or is getting the 6802 with only HSPA+ not really a noticeable difference?

Hi Don't make the mistake my Mother made, when she and bought the Xperia Z Ultra instead of waiting for the Note 3 like I told her. It turns to be a big mistake, she can not swap out battery, the battery life is so short, there is not stylus built in, she constant have to remember to carry some pencil, there is no wacom technology, she can not sketch nature like she can with the Note 3, she can not put the Ultra in her pants and walk or sit down with it, it is so impractical. There is no flashlight like, so she can not use the phone as a torch, which is vital for at night time, she fell yesterday because of the lack of flashlight and nearly killed herself. Also the camera is only 8M. Also there is no IR blaster, so she can't not use the phone as a remote control for her TV, she have to use the original TV controller, which is inconvenient because she have to turn no the light to see the keys on the TV remote controller, which means she have to get up and turn on the light, which is bad for her because she's got backache. Also she like to watch horror movies, the LCD on the Ultra can not display true black like the Amoled.

It just your mom don't like it. That's all.
I was going to wait and get the LTE version but then I did speed tests of my HSPA+ model and still got 15-20mbps frequently
I was getting 19 mbps yesterday which is quite good, sure it is not LTE speeds I was getting around 50 mbps on my galaxy s4 when I had it but I can live with the slower speeds I ended picking up a used c6802 for a very good price less then half of what I can order the LTE model for and I am very happy with it especially after updating to the 510 firmware the battery life is much much better

Galaxy Gear vs Sony Smartwatch 2

Hey All,
I will be receiving my free Sony SW 2 in a few days, which was on backorder from when I bought my Xperia Z Ultra which I've since sold to move over to the Note 3. My question is which do you guys think is the better accessory to the Note 3 - the Galaxy Gear or Sony SW 2 and why? I personally am thinking of selling the SW 2 to purchase the Gear, but before I do, i'd like to know the pros and cons.
Thanks - and sorry if this has been posted prior. I searched and did not see much on this.
Cheers
The gear hasn't been brought to its full potential. I'd wait for the Google watch or the qualcomm smart watch
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
very good question !
I am looking for answer myself : )
I v got curently SW2 ,
smartwatch 2
pros:
better looking as galaxy gear
much better battery life (SW2 live for about really 3-4days!)
when you recive email you see what and who wrote to you (on G gear you only see notification and need to get phone and check)
microUSB charger (on gera you have to back to home and use special charger)
much quicker MENU on SW2 than galaxy gear
all the time you see what time is it right now (dimmer screen is on)
galaxy gear compare to SW2
pros:
better display
you can answer the phone and speak
BT4.0 on board better coverage than BT3.0
video camera
THATS ALL
probably I will try galaxy gear but I think it is no good enough than SW2 !

Received my Sony SW 2 yesterday. Haven't unboxed it but from what I can see it looks like a very nice watch. Reading the Galaxy Gear threads, it seems like there are a ton of issues with the GG, so I may hold on to my new SW 2 for a while longer and see what developes!
Thanks to all who've inputted their opinions!!
I own galaxy gear....special charger means a little box with micro usb connector. The size is.a little bit more than a zippo.lighter. The menu is a lot faster.in.the.real product and the platform for gear is getting a lot of dev attention. We have.Root. And we can.install any app from Google play. And I am sure that Samsung will.bring updates to the firmware soon. As for.mail...if you use your Samsung email.acount for Gmail you can see the.content.of. Your mail, for example. There is an app.on the Samsung store for Facebook which works great. It's a well start and.will be.better. With future software updates. P.S. 1.You can really use the.gear as a handsfree, I use that while driving and.my hand.is.on.the.weel. 2. I miss IP67. 3. Battery last at least 24 h with heavy usage and the.charging time is minimum, aprox 1 hour.

I bought galaxy gear
cons:
looks much worse on wrist than SW2
I tought coverage signal will be much betterthat SW2 (BT3.0) but I think is a little worse than SW2 - serious !
SW2 has capacative under screen button wich is a lot qiucker to navigate
ooh I forgot .. much more SW2 comfortyble to wear on it , gear is not to flexible on wrist as SW2 wich fit perfect
I dont see by now much more better feeling using galaxy gear as :
better screen AMOLED and density
I am selling galaxy gear by now !
maybe next time , v2 ?

I heard only bad opinion about GG
but I need to check it on my own
now I know - we have to wait for v2 - cheaper , better build, better looking ..
of course , I see much potential on XDA , olny wait and software will be much better
but the oters is no good as SW2 or even pebble watch

You get a notification for gmail but it tells you to look at your phone. It doesn't show you the content of the gmail itself. If you use the stock email client and just use that you get to read the content.
Scribbled From My Note 3
I have the GG and I love it. Depending on what you need of course.
Here are some good things that I like
-I love checking my notification when I am in class. I don't care about emails. I get quite a lot text message and checking from watch is really useful to me.
-I also use it as headset when I don't have my bluetooth headset. Just a quick call/answer and found it to be quite good. Not for long conversation though.
-Battery life is more than decent. I can use a lot and still have about 30-40% left at the end of the night. I have no doubt it can get 24 hours battery.
-Pedometer is not so good. I don't use it since it's not accurate.
-Camera is not bad for quick pics. I take some pics of lecture, signs and it works great.
-Music control is awesome. Just wish my note 3 speaker is louder.
-Ability to install regular app through ADB is genius. I can actually install some useful app such as calculator.
Now bad things and wish they will improve
-More apps
-Water proof/Sweat Proof
-Longer battery life is always a welcome
-Notifications from all apps that I use(I don't like using every apps from samsung just to get notifications) This is a huge huge drawback IMO.
Those are my use of GG and I love it for my needs. Your mileage may vary. I hope the god of all devs from XDA find a way to hack the GG and make all the notifications pushed to GG of what user specify. This will make GG a truely fantastic device.

Should I buy i9100 now?

A friend is saling his Samsung S2 i9100 coming with a new mpj extended battery. He bought it two years ago, but still runs good. Is it still wise to buy? My phone just dead totally and I need a replacement asap. Please helped me with a decision, thanks!
Yes buy it..
It still a good midrange phone.
A dual core wid 1gigs of ram and 8mp camera wid 16gb inbuilt space
Thumbs up
it's a good phone
honnestly, i have mine from about 2 years, and i,m very pleased with it, and i dont plan to change it until there is something on tha market that really make a difference...
No, not 2nd hand. Not at any price. The number of phones we see develop faults on here after the 2yr mark means you're going to have to spend money on it sooner or later. You're better off getting an S3 cheap if the most recent devices (S4/others) are too expensive for you.
But if you were to get it for free, then yeah, why not.

Hahahaha....
U just confused him again ..lol
Btw i do agree wid ur point.. Worst being affected is the battery life of s2 after being used for 2yrs....
Got money? Buy. And with "buy" I mean "buy everything you can think of".
Help your country's economy by spreading around your money, don't be selfish!

Country's economy is completely irrelevant, who goes in the market to buy a phone just for some country's economy.
Anyways, I own S2, and I do like it very much. However, if you can find a better phone for your bdget (like note, S3), go for it.
Why not man?? Go ahead and buy it lol. But i really recommend a new phone than second hand.

I agree with @MistahBungle, you shouldn't buy it. Even tho most people say its a good phone, i see no reason to buy it right now when there are phones like Moto G out there, and you definitely shouldn't if its 2 years old because a month after you buy it you will come back here.
@Dakura - moto g is not superior in all aspects...
S2 is still beneficial in terms of
Screen hardware quality (not ppi)
Camera (moto g camera is pathetic i have used my friend's ..its no were near to s2...no touch to focus also..lol)
No expandable memory...
Wifi direct doesnt works wid a sammy wifi direct ready device..
Almost same screen size...coz 0.2" screen size is used by ugly on screen buttons...
S2 still has more developer support (in terms of kernel development..all exynos 4 family is treated equally)
And its pure aosp... Even to swtich of data... U need to pull down notification bar... Settings...mobile network and then get to data...
To get cm on moto g..say bye to much needed warranty ...:victory:.. S2 is a legend...
ya you should have. Its a great phone.
It's a good value for the $. Flash latest CM or SlimRom and it's as good as it gets.
make sure its not clone...and check whether he/she drop/disassemble it...
and i agree with @MistahBungle, if you have the option to buy 1st-hand phone, drop the offer...2nd-hand is 50-50 even if it is in good condition
I would go for the S2 HD or S3.
480x800 isn't a nice resolution for 4.3 inch.
NO , Don't buy any phone that has no warranty at all as it will costs you to replace any faulty part in future if problem persists and they don't come for cheap..
There are now much better option available..
You can opt for Xperia SP , that's a good phone.. Moto G- The bestselling phone right now or any other Good phone phone in your budget..
Don't make decisions on the basis of what people said here... Just mak a list And decide on your own what features or requirements you need and then go for that phone..
BTW Moto G is really good , if you don't click many pics , that will suit your requirement , However Outdoor are stil pretty good..
If root & custom ROMS are not your choice and just want to use pure android and its smoothness .. Go for Moto G..
Well i would go for moto g because newer plus not exynos(more developer support) and kitkat official or get s3 if you can these are good alternatives but if you want an s2 so bad get it if better price.
I would buy a second hand 2 year old no warranty S2 for maybe 50$ or lesser, but that pricing itself will get me suspicious enough to not get it at all, don't get me wrong, I love my old faithful and sturdy S2 to still not upgrade and probably will hang on to it till the day it dies, but as a new and cheap investment I would go for the Moto G as many other's recommend here.
