Hey Ricky,
first off all thx for your noobs image of Mate. Is it may possible to upload the newest version of mate. There are some fixes out now.
Or is it possible to update your image via console. I have read that this is not possible with the raspberry mate image. Or maybe you can include mate in your noobs portable.
Have tested it and it worked very well for me. Great job!
Regards

On windows it does not work?
You can't build cyanogenmod on windows...has to be linux...
You can get a logcat on windows though by installing the android SDK, once that's installed just type adb logcat on the cmd prompt
You don't have to replace windows withinux btw...you can dual boot it...give linux about 100gb or more and the rest will be for windows

Exactly, here I leave some links of various Linux distributions...
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer

Here are some that I use, but I recommend ubuntu, because it is the easiest to use for a newbie

That's a good place to start indeed.
One thing: it does NOT have an option to add new devices.
when you add a device directory, you will get LOTS of errors you need to fix.
With your experience, I think you can fix the first one.
You'll need to ask the community for the rest.
Everyone here posting in the Chef Central area is willing to guide you,
but some of the actions you should really think of yourself..

Just follow the guide, if there is any error during the build process it will list it and stop building, just copy and paste the error to pastebin.com and share the link here or even better in that tutorial thread, someone will hopefully tell you what's wrong and how to fix it
Once its built flash it, if the flash fails then while.in recovery go to advanced, then report error...upload that log here
Once it boots up, if something's not working start a logcat then send us the logcat

so how did you make the nexus rom for it?
The issue is that I do not own the phone, but I am looking at porting CM to MTK6589.
MIUI porting is a bit different, it would not involve kernel compiling per se I believe (CM either, but I would like to).
To give it a go, I would need info from here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
So your ROM version, partition info etc.
When I manage to port to a device I own, I can give it a go.

i compiled my first recovery based on cm 10.1 for Thl W8.
I have no easy way to push the image to the phone to test.
If it works, I can start to create a recovery for this phone based on sources.
I would need that info I requested.
Are you able to post the build.prop file and the partition dump?
Look at the page with instructions I posted earlier.
Meantime I look for an easy way to flash that recovery, somehow sp flashtool does not read the scatter file created by mtkdroidtools .
cheers
managed to flash it, but it does not work , just a black screen .
Harder than it looks.
Can't promise anything, but I'll post if I get further.
Compiling on an old C2D now, so it takes time .

Especially the partition info is important.

So, like I requested before, please :
- post your build.prop file
- post identification stuff of the device, like screen resolution, memory and recovery.fstab (or the recovery image)
- in general take a look at the link I posted before and read it, so you know what info is needed :
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro
The reason I ask is because there are at leat 2 different versions, 1 had 960x480 screen and 1/4gb ram/rom, the other 1280x720 and 2/8.
They obviously at least have different partitions and displays and perhaps even other different hardware.
You can also post a full working ROM on dropbox or something.
thanks
P.S. for the needed tools, see here:

This is a CWM 6.0.3.3 which works on my device.
Use SP Flash Tools 3.13 something to flash.
My scatter file is attached, please compare it with yours.
Needless to say perhaps, but still: this is on your own risk.
You may damage your device if you do not know what you are doing.
Bricking it is not my fault!
So think before you act.
If you try: please give feedback if it works.
If does it is the same device: N9389 5.3", 960x480 (qHD) , 1 gb ram, 4 gb rom.
Device identifier: v89_gq2002s
Baseband v: MOLY.WR8.W1248.MD.WG.MP.V6.P2, 2013/03/26 12:42

Hi,
Well I am partly motivated by your offer, but I enjoy Android and Linux hacking.
Let's hope those attempts will lead to something.
How about LewaOS? There are good porting guides for that.
I will try to look for MIUI or CM in the weekend.
Initial CM would miss dual sim support.
Maybe MIUI is easier, because some work has been done.
Well, I'll see.
Don't overestimate the complexity, if you have CM 6 and made it yourself, porting a rom is doable I suppose ?
cheers

Hello.
I'm new to this forum (well as a user) and also to developing. I would like to know how I can build or patch the ROM (kernel) of my unlisted mtk6572 device to support 5.0 or even 6, basically porting to a different api such as 5/.0.1/.1.1 . I would just like some links to guides if not a guide.
Merci in advance.

As shocking as it is since my last reply, I've tried searching way to extract the kernel source, from the device, but I can't find any, I gave up, due to slow net, but my dad upgraded about 6 months ago, and now I've began trying to add upgrade support to MTK phones, since Mediatek wont share the "TRADE SECRETS" they acquired from linux and are illegally selling. So I'd actually like to help people who bought an MTK phone/tab without knowing this. I just want to know if it's possible to decompile/extract the source from the device, and if so, how?
Thanks in advance!

nope, you can't get sources from the device,it will be released by the manufacturer.send them a mail asking for it.
btw you came to the wrong section.questions should go here.
Thanks, will they give the sources to me for free? Or I'll probably have to pay for the Linux source. And Google should really deal with them...

It's not that simple. You'll need to learn a lot about coding in order to be anywhere close to doing it. It's not copy pasting stuff here and there or installing from a backup.

Since you're a noob, I can't think of anything easier than this for you
Go through the ports which are already available (like Mi A2) (must be xiaomi)
See what files the dev used to get the camera working on non-miui roms
To give you rough idea there will be xiaomi framework , some xmls, libs etc.
Try replicating those exact files from your stock firmware and create a flashable zip or directly paste em into root
Also try contacting the dev of that camera and see if he agrees to help you out !
Ask him if you face any trouble throughout.
Ignore people who are discouraging,
Today a noob, tomorrow a pro
Thanks a lot. I trialed and error-ed and came to same method you mentioned below.
