Hi guys,
I've got an XDAII and I want to be able to see / edit the extended rom...
I've found the cab files I need (elsewhere in this forum) but I have no idea whatsoever how to use them?!?!
I can't run them, so there must be either an app I need or somewhere I need to put them, right?
Please help
Thx
Have you transfeered the cab file to your phone and executed from there?
It's a cab file. You put it on the XDA II in a folder of your choice, then run it, after reboot you will find a new icon in Programs. The rest is simple.
When I try to run it I get:
The is no application associated with "00unhide". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application.

Click to collapse
Please post the link to the exact file so I can download and test it.
I just got it working...
After I downloaded the .cab, as I have WinRar I thought that it was something that needed extracting and it didn't!

that's the link anyway, but it works perfectly!
Sorry for being such a idiot
No problem, hope its all sorted for you now.
OK, i really did look n im just more confused so feel free to tell me how too inexperienced i am to be trying "all things root" as long as u follow that w/ the answer.
So i want to install "setCPU" zip file from this site cuz i dont currantly have a bank account (long story-cash,fine-debit/credit,no) so i assumed i could treat it just like an upgrade (thru CWM) but apparently not so... i checked but posts all seemed to be 4 non-root? Or for GAPPS? SDK? apk files-android package...?(is that the same as zip...or similar? ...GAPPS?...google apps maybe? im so lost i'd have to do a weeks worth of researsh b4 i get results...
Orrr, i could ask u guys n get results n knowledge simultaneously...this suits me better as ive allways learned by asking exhaustive questions coupled w/ research, So... how can i achieve this?
Oh i did see 1 post where it said to un-zip n place on sd n open w a file mgr. but i had already tried this. i tried to open w/ appInstaller, but it couldn't be found. Why cant i treat as upgrade? is there any particular place on sd card to put it? Is the "read me" me file necessary? should i place both files in folder?
[also do i really need to subscribe to my ow threads to be saved? why arent my posts auto-saved as in other sites or are they?where? ....u guys must hate me]
You are over-complicating things. You just have to first unzip the file to access the APK, then install it as you would any other application. No updating/flashing/whatever required. I used Astro file explorer to unzip it and then again to install it after downloading it to my TBolt. I'm sure other file explorers have the same capabilities.
You do know SetCPU is free for xda members right?

CRAAAAP! im sorry all i had to do was read!!!! in my defence other "read me" files have seemed to say absolutely nothing. please dont ban me yet... i'll get btr
yeah thanks really i tried all of that but this is how dumb i am: 1st all i had to do was open and read 2nd when i figured out wat to do the hard way cuz i wouldnt read, i had my phone plugged in to PC so app intaller couldnt read it duh.. thnks 4 responding tho
k so i installed then uninstalled so i could try something new. Does anyone know how to do this maually as im trying to be more knowledgeable n resourceful. i got to the part where i have to "navigate to the directory where the setcpu.apk is found" and type in command line to install... and im lost.
how do i navigate anywhere? all i can do is type. after i type "adb devices" a bunch of script pops up w/ my device info but no "setcpu.apk." above.
I read the 1st post but your kinda getting me lost. I have a couple questions.
1. What are you trying to do?
2. Why is there a zip?
3. Are you trying to install setcpu?
If you're trying to install setcpu click on the link I gave you a couple post up. The link will direct you to a post where SetCPU is free and in an apk format. Download the apk onto your phone and install it using whatever file explorer you want to use. Open the file explorer and find the SetCPU apk and install it. FYI If you are not rooted SetCPU will not work. You must hit menu, setting, applications, and allow (check) unknown sources.
no i figured it out. it was a zip file w/ apk n directions i didnt bother to read cuz i thought it was just credits or watever. i was do'n everything right but my file manager wasnt reading anything at the time (i was so frustated that i prob. had phone plugged in to PC n just didnt realize) cuz it worked later...
NOW i want to do it the hard way... i KNOW- stupid but i gotta start somewhere. i cant find the directory where setcpu is located in ADB but i'll figure it out. Suggestions welcome but its certainly not pressing im just OCD thanks 4 all the help
anyway your way wouldve been much easier. i guess i missed the link earlier
You've gotta put the apk in the platform-tools folder. Mine would be C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. To navigate adb to that folder I type cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools in command prompt. Hey you know there's a "ADB for dummies" thread, right? LOL I used it when I first learned. Here's another adb tutorial

Ok.to install "setCPU" I did Wut was suggested above. After I type the 1st command it repeats the "sdk" directory (i think its called) bak to me n on that line I typed:
"adb install setcpu.apk"
Then it says:
"can't find 'setcpu.apk' to install.
I have the .apk (unzipped) file in the "platform-tools" folder. Wut am I do n wrong?

I am in the process of building my own rom, but have a few questions for some devs that have built theirs.
1. When I use dsixdas kitchen, when it unpacks system.img with ext2explore, the program crashes after it finishes. I do not know if it is fully unpacking the img file as it is 800+mb and the system dir is only 600+mb (dont know exact numbers off top of my head). Does anyone else have this issue? Can I get a directory listing of all files from someone the program did not crash on?
2. Can the weather*.mp4 files be removed from system media? What about the image files in customize/resource? wtf is the sound in the mms folder of system/media? What about removing languages from tts?
Sorry for asking so many questions, just figured they needed to be asked. I will try figuring this all out for myself, but am going to backup my wimax keys first, dont want to lose those, though I guess TEP would fix it for me. Anyways, thanks for any help
Hi everyone!
Sorry for the inconvience but I'm pretty much a noob -_-"
I'm trying to make a simple installation apk for a font so that I can get something fancy-fancy on my Samsung
but my computer denies being my friend and now I have no more tries left in me, since I'm not that tehnical...
so the problem is as following
as I have set up the APK multitool i copy the apk file in to the place-apk-here-for-modding folder
I select the project
and when I try decompiling it it says "An error accured, please tjeck the Log"
when I then tjeck the log the message is: (roughly translated since it comes up in danish -sorry-)
'java' was not reconized as a internal or external command,
a program or batch file

I tried three different downloads of the program and it is the same all the way through and im so fustrated by now -_-" please please help me!
sorry for any spelling errors!
Hope that the problem has been explained properly - since my english has become quite rusty :S
Thanks in advance!
Hi! First of all i hope this is the right place to post. Otherwise point me in the right direction.
Now to my case.
Since the original kitchen thread is closed i hope i will have mercy to post my question here.
When I go through the different steps in terminal on my mac i get this messages:
Issue 1:
"Warning: No cache.img.ext4 found. You can unpack this file separatelyby running the plugin script in the kitchen's Advanced menu options. If your device doesn't use a CSC, then just ignore this message."
When i extract the zip file the kitchen makes, it says i should put its systems file in the system folder. But in there, there is already a folder named app, should i replace it or just add the csc zip contents to it? A little confused here.
Issue 2:
"1 issue(s) found. *Please review the update-script to ensure it is correct.Number of symlink conflicts resolved: 1NOTE: This device (m3) requires an updater-script"
"This script will convert your update-script into an updater-scriptand will also add the update-binary file. This option will also be given when you build your ROM, so it isnot necessary to convert your update-script now. *The kitchen is NOTcompatible with updater-scripts, so only a few options can be used*afterwards if you have an updater-script.Ensure you have an update-script under META-INF/com/google/androidof your working folder."
Just so i don't get it wrong. My Galaxy S3 I9305 requires me to change this to updateR? What about the update-binary? Stay as it is?
Thank you very much for any help. Really want to learn this. And i have googled this a lot so you guys are my last option on this matter.
