Root Sony Z4 tab, fastboot command not allowed - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm trying now for hours to root my Z4 tab.
I've never had problems like this with any other vendors, stupid sony...
1. Started tab for the first time, activated myxperia
2. Rebooted into fastboot and tried to unlock bootloader => fastboot returend command not allowed
3. Found out this was happening since myxperia was activated => diabled it, successfully unlocked bootloader
4. flushed androkernel v10 using fastboot
5. rebooted and run android wizard, activated myxperia again *stupid*, becauce after that the device never booted again (@see thread t3265984)
6. Installed stock using flashtool and disabled myxperia during the android wizard.
7. Tried to flush the androplus kern again, but I get alway the "command is not allowed" response. Even if I try to unlock the bootloader again, I get the same response from fastboot (I'm not sure if my device is still unlocked after gone back to stock).
Don't know what to do, stupid sony device, grml
Has anybody some helpful idea? Same Problems? Thanks!

From what I can find on XDA you've nuked your tablet.

wtf, f*** sony. I will never buy sony products again. I'm going to trash my ps4 too ^^ .
In a nutshell, I will not be able to root my device anymore?
(I don't have to trash it, it's working fine (just without root))
Maybe there will be a way without the need using fastboot to root the Z4?
I'm not an expert in rooting android's, but since flashtool in flashmode is or was working, can't I
hack it that way? (I'm not sure if it will work again since the bootloader is probably locked, at least "Emma" sees that this way.)

You simply have to be patient now until some new vulnerability in android is found that can be exploited to gain root access.
Sadly Sony is very fast to patch those. Ping Pong root and Kingroot doesn't work on stock 5.0 Lolipop that comes with Z4 ;/

I'm in the same boat, I had figured myxperia from the description of it was just another Android Device manager app. Can't disable it now.

[Q] Root XPS - mission impossible

Hi all
I've spent the last couple of days trying to root my XPS (CH ICS upgraded), following the instructions found on this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1723610 and I simply can't do it. I've tried the easy way using the Fashtool with no result. I've tried the fasboot easy way and it does nothing. It hangs 'waiting on the device'.
I have installed flashtool 0.8.0, the update 0.8.6, the drivers and all. It simply doesn't work. I also tried on another PC, same thing.
Any ideas?
Thanks
are your (fastboot) drivers proper installed?
take a look into http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159 this posting from Bin4ry and make shure that your Fastbootdrivers work
if they are... try reboot the computer
Thank you for your reply.
I'm sure it's a drivers problem, anyway I tried that and it didn't ask for no driver, installed them itself. I also tried on a XP notebook and yet the same..
When it says waiting for device while pressing down the volume up key plug in the device
Thank you. Tried that too, light goes green but fastboot keeps waiting. Windows 7 x64.
Read somewhere, do I have to unlock it first? I mean, it is not locked to any carrier.

For fastboot you need to press vol up + plug the usb( blue led).

Do you have telephone from operator? Same operators bloked bootloader and you don't unlocket them. If you have in service menu bootloader unlock allowed: no, you can't conect phone with fasboot mode ( wolume +).
You must first unbloked bootloader, but I don't now how. I have got the same problem.
Why you want to root it ?! what's the real added value ?

I finally could do it, this is the part that I was missing: unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com, by thinking unlocking was meant only for operator locked phones. I bought mine free so I wasn't unlocking it.

Being able to mod it at taste, for example changing the battery from green to blue :good:
Thank you all for your help.
why not! it's maybe useful to change the color of the battery
I've also an xperia x10 pro, I root it, and tried all the existing ROMs, root apps ...etc. just for curiosity, but I get bored quickly! that's why I don't want to root my Xperia S, and now with ICS it's perfect for me ...
I was using Iphone's model since many years, I changed to Android around two months ago, I love this OS, I prefer it to iphon's one, but I found that the possibilities after the root are very poor compare to Iphone, if you jailbreak your Iphone, with Cydia you can have thousand apps, themes, customizations …. But for android, I don’t found many possibilities, or maybe I’m still a noob !?!
Well, enjoy your root …
I will be rooting and installing CM9 the moment it is up and running. While the Sony ROM works fine, I prefer the pure approach of CM. To me this ICS Sony gave us looks no different on the outside to GB, they even kept the same statusbar icons, just changed the font.
I agree with you, I was expecting more from ICS ROM, the only benefit that I get from is that I can configure the proxy directly on the specific WIFI without using any apps, but nothing for the appearance, always the same themes!
but do you really think that the CM9 is better than the official ROM?

[Q] Cannot root my Sola. Please help :((

Hi Guys,
I've been reading how to unlock my ICS Sola but so far I have not been able to do it. I tried to post my question in the development forum but I am new here so I could not post there. I am following this thread by B4nary: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&page=73
I've already unlocked the bootloader without trouble.
But I can not root the phone
This is what I do. I enable USB debugging, I start the script and then I select Normal. (i tried the special setting without success either)
It tells me to connect my phone via USB, so I do it. It displays that the daemon is not running. Then it displays that the deamon in starting on port 5037.And then it displays that the daemon has started successfully.
And that's it. It never displays anything else. The cursos just keeps blinking no matter how long the shell runs for. Why is that ?
I use Windows 7 , I turn off AVG completely.
If it makes any difference I do not have PC companion installed on my computer.

Hi,
I am not sure if the cell has to have an unlocked bootloader for the rooting tool to work. Mine was unlocked prior to that.
I have not had the chance to do any updates via SUS yet. I can not answer that question either. Sorry. PC Companion says only that I have the latest software updates and that's it. However I was able to use all PC companion apps with my rooted Sola (back up and restore, file manager, etc).

I also try to root my sola. The complete Sunday i try without any success. I have downloaded the tool of Bin4ary in Version 15 and 9 and tried both of them. I am using Windows 8 in 64bit and pc companion is running on my machine. Some People told me to move the files on Desktop but this wasn´t successful, too. I have no idea what to do. When i am running the BAT as Admin and press 1 the tool told me there was no path found. Because i thougth maybe Windows 8 ist the Problem is also tried Windows 7 on another Computer. Of course i activate developer mode on my sola. And i tried both ways in mtp and msc mode.
I realy dont know what i can do to root my phone. Maybe someone has a hint for me...
Root help!
I've tried to root my Xperia Sola, with official ICS, original ROM,nothing changed. I just want to root it, without any other effects. I've tried Binary roots, v9 and v15, but didn't worked any of them. It looks like everything is okay, i have got backup&restore, i see what needed to backed up, i back up, and than the phone reboots. I think everything is okay, there are superuser, and if i want to use for example Lucky patcher, superuser asks me for permission, but after that Lucky Patcher says there are no root access. And any other root-needed program says that. I don't know what"s the problem, should i do anything else to get the root working? THX for help!

Z5 Compact stuck at boot - procedure/advice

Hello,
I just jumped on a good deal for Xperia Z5 (E5823) with software issue. Device boots up to the Xperia logo screen and hags there. I am preparing myself for flashing but hoping a simple hard reset might solve the problem. What should my steps be? I already downloaded Flashtool and did some reading on the forum to get myself familiar with the process. Looks like I will need to download FTF file (I am in US, prefer to have unbranded with minimal carrier bloat) and can use your advice on which version/file to start with. Ideally I would want to root as well, but for now more concerned about restoring back to stock. I did read that Lollipop has a better performance, but open to suggestions for whatever is easier/stable. Any guidance/advice is appreciated (with links to tools or downloads if avail). Is there a way to tell what version # along with region/customization I have installed now?! Should I try the Sony Companion software?
For the record, I have successfully flashed custom ROMS on various Samsung/LG devices, as well as Nexus 4/5. Therefore, feel pretty confident this should not be impossible or any harder. Thanks A LOT.
An update after spending few hours yesterday. PC Companion doesn't recognize the phone when attempting to repair (Vol down + insert USB). It did install few drivers when connected to PC, and it looks like the phone does go into flashmode (as indicated by LED staying green). Then tried the Flashtool, created FTF file (based on tutorial at XperiaBlog) and again the same thing, can't get the phone to be recognized in flashmode. It does respond in fastboot mode and able to get some identifying information. I couldn't find any information on how to flash system, kernel, etc through fastboot (was hoping to use the Flashtool FastBoot mode option, but picking corresponding SIN files resulted is fail errors). I am afraid that flashmode might not work for me as the phone might not have USB debugging enabled (not sure what was done to it and who had it prior).
Are the other alternatives/methods I should try? I wish there was a way to send flash commands from ADB command prompt (like with Nexus phones) and from fastboot mode. Any ideas? Really love the phone, though and want to get it repaired to replace my huge LG! Thanks everyone.

I gladly would, except that I am not very comfortable using it due to lack of experience and available zips for my Z5 compact. Can you point me to that info and how to make zips to flash and what to start with? I am willing to try it.
Also, how can I check if my boot loader is unlocked? Can't seemed to find a command to use. Thanks again.
Any pointers for zips or how to flash a rom through fastboot? Thanks.

We have a couple aosp Roms available to flash, I'd try cm13. I don't know if you've tried to unlock your bootloader yet or not but you should try that. You could also try flashing zombie kernal and see if that'd boot up.

Thanks for the reply and guidance. I would prefer to stick with Stock Xperia software and launcher. From my experience, CM tends to be buggy and I need full stable functionality with max battery (hoping to give Stamina a test). I am not sure if the bootloader is unlocked and don't want to mess with it unless I absolutely have to (does unlocking BL still messes with DRM keys for camera processing?) Wish I could see if it is unlocked somehow, maybe someone tried to flash/root it and messed up the bootloader somehow.
I will look at zombie kernel (does it need unlocked bootloader or recovery to flash, will it work with stock ROM?) Thanks again for your help.

I'm only trying to suggest things that could get the phone working again not permanent solutions lol I don't run cm13 yet as it's definitely not refined. Flashing a stock ftf should be able to bring you to complete original specs without unlocking bootloader or anything.

Lol, I understand now. It looks like the bootloader might still be locked as I am unable to flash zombie kernel (command: "fastboot flash boot boot.img" results in sending OK, but Failed: remote command not allowed). Looks like I am stuck to trying to unlock a bootloader to keep trying to revive the phone. Just bothers me that I can't get into Flashmode (even after installing drivers that come with Flashtool). Could this be because the phone might not have USB debugging enabled? Is there a way to try to flash the stock through fastboot (as zip) instead of ftf?
My big concern is loosing TA partition and associated DRM keys (any way to back it up from fastboot or toolkit?). Or is that not a factor with the hack available now? Sorry for all these questions, just getting more and more frustrated with this.

Come to think of it without getting into the phone to enable unlocking the bootloader I don't think you would even be able to do that. Even if the drivers weren't installed the phone should go into flash mode. I had a hard time with my first attempt with flash tool at getting into flash mode. If you hold power and volume up you should be able to power down the phone completely then hold volume up while plugging in. The problem I had was my PC has a few different USB ports and I was using one that was meant for charging and it wouldn't go into flash mode, tried a different port and it went well after that.
Failed: remote command not allowed ???
This error is because you have not enabled OEM Unlocking from the Developer Option.
If you have enabled it but still receiving the error then you have not unlocked bootloader properly.
There is no need to unlock bootloader for flashing official sony firmwares. It is pretty simple. If you are facing any problems then please feel free to message me.

Looks like this phone got the dreaded sleep of death bug (won't turn on at all, no matter which combination of buttons I press). Had it on the charger for last 3 days (no led indicators at all and no vibrations), so I got a brick now. Any ideas? This phone should still be under warranty (manufactored week 9 of 2016), but Sony USA refuses to service International phones in their facility. Learned that based on IMEI, this is a Hong Kong version and they want an invoice from authorized dealer for warranty work. Are there are other countries that honor warranty without checking invoice (go by date of manufactoring?) I had Moto and LG repaired before just based on age of phone, no invoice needed. This is my last resort option (to attempt sending in for service).

Thanks, not very encouraging given the fact that Sony USA supposedly doesn't currently have a service center to repair international phones (closed their TX center). Are there other countries (Canada or UK) which have less stringent policies of needing invoice (for proof of purchase) and can simply go off of manufacture date from the IMEI or device info? Thanks again.

Screen not broken but also not responding to touch because of flashed twrp-recovery, now what?? And especially where to begin with troubleshooting??

Hello everybody,
I have a big problem because my Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6802 doesn't work anymore and doesn't respond to touch anymore since i flashed a certain twrp-recovery to the recovery-partition with fastboot.
So that's why i'm forced to connect my wired mouse to it to be able to control it as far as that's possible. I tried to flash another twrp-recovery to it but fastboot doesn't work anymore and is broken, or so it seems. In any case it's impossible to use fastboot or adb for that matter because the phone wont boot into the bootloader-mode. So could someone please help me with this issue??!! Before i started to hack my phone it worked perfectly and the display responded normally to touch input. The only thing i can do with it at the moment is boot into twrp and the rom which is Lineage-os 18.1. But even when i'm booted into the rom the display still doesn't respond to touch anymore and i still have to use my connected wired mouse to use it.
I hope to hear from you soon about this!
Kind regards,
Laurens

It seems your Z ultra is soft bricked. All you have to do is download "Xperia Companion" software
and press "Software Repair", then check the option "My device cannot be detected or started...", then follow the steps provided.
As a result you will have your zultra with a fresh stock rom (Lollipop) from Sony.
Then, you can custom mod your phone again.
EDIT: don't forget to lock your bootloader before running xperia companion!

I only have one more question: since i can't get access to the bootloader (fastboot), how do i bypass the problem of having to re-lock the bootloader again with (needed) access to the bootloader and fastboot before continuing with Xperia Companion??
Try This:
- Download FlashTool (I'm using version 0.9.30 and it works on my Zultra)
- Extract it to a folder (eg c:\flashtool)
- Go to C:\Flashtool\drivers and install the drivers (FASTBOOT, FLASHMODE and everything with Zultra... )
- Run C:\Flashtool\FlashTool64.exe, and let it update througth github
- Press the BLU botton, follow the instructions on how to connect your phone, then select the model and press Relock
EDIT: The following approach is the flashmode, so you may not have a problem. Please report here if you finally succeed unbricking your phone...
Good luck

Could you please upload Flashtool 0.9.30 somewhere and post the downloadlink here in this thread? Because version 0.9.30 is nowhere to be found when i search for it with Google. Only version 0.9.34 is available from the official Flashtool-website, or can i use that one also?
Edit: well first i tried to run Xperia Companion while my phone was unlocked (just to confirm if it works or not) and it didn't gave me any errors, but now it does give me an error saying it can't continu because my phone is locked and i first have to unlock it again before continuing. Do you have any ideas on how to proceed now?
Ps: also my phone is now dead since i locked it again and doesn't respond to anything except it vibrates shortly after pushing the on-button but nothing appears on screen!
Ps1: It appears so that Xperia Companion probably means with "that my phone is locked" that i have a screenlock which i need to unlock first before proceeding.
And yet another thing happened namely: the program complaints about me not having a working internet-connection which doesn't make any sense since every other device in my house has a good working internet connection! I have included a picture of the error below so you can see what i mean.
Eventually it worked!! after successfully relocking the bootloader my phone was completely dead and only vibrated shortly after pressing the power-button and that was it. But since Flashtool reported that the relocking-procedure was successfully fullfilled, i then carried on with Xperia Companion but this time on my Macbook Air (because of the error i got on Windows, see screenshot).
Finally i managed to let it install the original sofware and this time it completely reanimated my phone again, and even my display returned back to normal again!!
So now i can finally begin all over with installing the latest Lineage version onto the phone, thanks to you!!
Ps: before i forget: i found eventually a Flashtool website which has the version you got (0.9.30) so i downloaded that and used it in the process!!
So i can't express enough how much i appreciate your help and can't thank you enough for all of this!!
Glad you could make it!
This is the standard procedure when things go wrong with custom flashing with any xperia device that becomes completely unresponsive.
Two things:
- version 0.9.30 is what I'm currently using. Most likely the newer versions are working as well.
- To unlock your bootloader again, you only have to press the BLU button in Flash Tool and then UNLOCK.

Question Bootloop (soft bricked) Sony Xperia Pro-i | FIX NEEDED

Hello I have a big problem. My Sony Xperia Pro-i is stuck in bootloop (soft bricked). USB debugging is not turned on and obviously I can not turn it on. The problem occurred due to a software update that failed due to low battery. I have already tried Xperia Companion and the software repair succeeded (at least that's what the software says). Unfortunately, after flashing with Xperia Companion, you only see the logo again instead of "your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted". The warning comes after about 5 times restart. I have also looked around with "Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde" to do the whole thing. I noticed that my device do not exist under devices in the programm. Now I am running out of ideas. I also don't understand why it still doesn't work after a successful reflash. Would be very grateful for suggestions!

Did you try flashing using EMMA instead of that? Is the bootloader unlocked??
Get the it here...
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/flash-tool/download-flash-tool/
And here's the official guide to use it...
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/flash-tool/how-to-flash/
They are official resources so it's basically doing the Xperia Companion repair, but in full manual (hopefully to correct this)

Hi!
Thanks for the response. EMMA didnt worked i get the error "Device is locked...". I Tryed flashing with "newflasher" what did work (But still in bootloop again with "your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted"). I heard that this can caused by the bootloader if its activated. Unfortunately im not very skilled at Software repairing. So im not sure how to check if the bootloader is activated and how i can enter it.

Sweet hell...
If the bootloader is unlocked, it won't generally relock unless prompted to - that's the good news
Bad news is that if it is in fact locked, it only reacts to officially signed firmware, and you should never never lock it while running anything modified (ROM) or rooted, since when it self contains, it will detect it's not 'officially signed' and **** the bed - AKA hard bricks itself
The boot message not showing the unlocked bootloader warning (The device cannot be checked for corruption blah blah blah) is rather concerning.
I'm curious if what caused this is running the Xperia companion app since that's the one that's generally used as the final step after you relock the bootloader - not sure if it reattempts locking it down once more before completing. This would be bad..
At the expense of losing all your data, have you tried a fastboot wipe? Maybe corrupted files could be causing this as well
I would nuke it then try reflashing again
Careful with those .ta files as well - they can ruin your day

Well it's complicated....
So i cant do a fastboot wipe because "FAILED (remote: 'Erase is not allowed in Lock State')" im not sure about this error but i thought it means that the bootloader ist not unlocked and that is the case. But even if sony companion should still play a verified software on it or not? Or is it already a problem if unverified software has only been installed once on the device? Xperia companion app caused the error ("The device cannot be checked ...") before there was just the logo without warning.

The fact you've flashed non standard/pure OEM software means nothing really - the issue comes upon relocking bootloader. When it relocks, it checks for integrity of the files, and it's got anything BUT the pure non modified as is software as per Sony's official releases, when it self checks for the signatures it won't succeed and will declare it as nom trustworthy/corrupted, and stop the boot. Basically what you've got. But again, unless the Xperia Companion app locked it, this should not be the case unless you manually did it
If the bootloader is locked tho, you cant reflash anything to address it, so it becomes a catch 22. Locking your door with the keys inside the house if you may.
