Huawei u8110 specific question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody!
I need assisstance from you all. I have an old mobile phone, Huawei U8110, and it is my only phone that I can use for now (long story short - lack of resources left me with this phone only, and I need to fix it, but I have some issues with the software).
I've updated the phone software from eclaire to cyanogen mod 7, android version 2.3.5., the mod version is CyanogenMod 7.1.0.-2.3.5.-U8110-COCO, build number COCO CM7.
But now it cant start in safe mode (the startup sceen that you can usually activate with button combination, where you can select boot options is always unavailable).
Phone is working somewhat ok (i cant use any radio, and my camera is dead), but the basic functions are running ok.
The thing is that I cant revert to any old system, and I cant update to a new one.
Is there any new system that is worth upgrading to, and is there a solution for the problem of accesing the startup sceen (that was available before, but now it isnt).
Thank you in advance for your answers, and I am sorry if I posted in a bad place in this forum.
My neighbor allowed me to use his Internet connection in order to post whis question, so I didnt had the time to search all the forums (sorry if I am not following the rules about that )

people? anybody? Some help, please?

Huawei Sonic U8650 - (root, custom rom, integrate flash, general topic)

First of all I would like to apologize for not so perfect English
I have U8650 and i would like to make this topic general topic for it. I know there are few topics but there is no much info in them.
I have made same topic on croatian forum for phones so i think it will be better if its on xda because there are much more people that are good in cooking cracking etc.
So lets begin
Detailed specifications can be seen on the LINK, however, the battery is 1400mAh[/ B] and not 1250 (i have sent email to gsmarena to change it but nothing hapend...)
ROOT and the original ROM
After playing with the phone I wanted too root it, after a good deal of trouble, and around 40 readed topics (without overdoing it) I came up with some knowledge, of course the problem is that the phone is currently on only few markets. (spain, croatia, turkey, australia and china i think)
To root U8650 you should flash it with original Rom, Spanish devices dont need original rom to root dont know why it is but it is
ROM
It is necessary to download an official ROM
LINK
After you download it unrar it and dload folder copy to memory card
Path should look like \ dload \ update
to flash device you need to
turn it off
remove the battery for 5 seconds
put the battery back in
press the buttons "VOL +" + "VOL-" + "ON" (all three keys at once)
and will start automatic firmware upgrade
for 3-4 minutes cell is debranded
If you get error not found firmware that means that you did not put the firmware on the SD card like you should (I got it a few times) just off the device and repeat the procedure.
root
After flashing unbranded firmware we can throw at root
software needed for the root LINK
This is similar to debranding.
download root file
Put it on SD card
turn off the phone
remove the battery for 3 seconds
Press "VOL +" + "ON" (without the vol-)
When you open the "bios like" menu use the volume keys up/down to select the update from memory card called root
after this procedure just reboot the phone and you have rooted phone
UNLOCK
My wife is on vip network so I had need to unlock cell

contact the man, he tells you to pay € 13 at [email protected] [/ email]
Send him mail with the payment for approximately 12 hours with you (he said 2-3 days al always come to 24h)
if this is forbiden on xda i will remove it
If you have any questions please ask, this all is wrote on xda and some other forums i just put all together
Do not think i am responsible if anything goes wrong I have done in exactly those steps and everything works normally. Everything you do yo do at your own risk.
So: D after a slightly longer introduction with u8650 came the day to put Custom rom.
Of course, for custom rom you will need root thus described above tutorial.
After puting custom rom phone is like 20% faster

So here is tutorial
What you will not learn from linked topic (and I found out by sheer luck) is that you need to install drivers and custom "bios" to be able to put custom rom
So first things first
You will need to do procedure in this topic LINK
First download the driver for Windows 7 LINK
So these are the drivers that you install and run you will have a screen with two options press instal drivers
If you have XP and these drivers dont work download this LINK
I have W7 so I leave to you if this is working for xp (it should work because no one has yet complained )
The second step is to download this file LINK unzip it and run Instalador.bat
You have fine hacker green screen and bunch of Spanish. luckily it doesn't interest us. Go to the next step and that is putting the phone in Fastboot mode.
The third step unplug the battery cell out/in pressing VOLUME - (or the volume down) and the power button and hold for 10 seconds.
it will show you only the Huawei logo and it should only show you that.
Step Four Connect the mobile phone with the USB cable, wait until computer detects it and after a few seconds go ti fine spanish green screen and press any key
It will flash "bios" of the phone it should be ready in a minute or two there is no hurry.
then reset the cell and you should have a fine new "bios".
Check this by turning off cell battery out / in and press the Volume + (volume up) and the power button for 10 seconds.
It should appear with orange letters like from the picture

After you have fine new "bios" you want to put fine new rom
The first step with this rom download LINK
The second step is to put the zip in the root of your memory card.
The third step going into the BIOS mod So turn off the cell battery out / in the volume + power button for 10 seconds.
You get orange letter menu now navigate with the volume + and - and with the power Buton you confirm it.
The fourth step choose the factory data wipe, then wipe the cache and then advanced wipe devil cache (not the exact name but you will seen it)
Each time when you choose wipe you need to confirm it, always navigate to yes i want to wipe.
Fifth step Return to start of the BIOS and select the custom recovery and navigate to the zip file called zadkin and select it.
When you choose it will start to flash for me lasted about 4minute when it's finished, reboot the system and if everything went well (and there is no reason why not) you will get the boot menu with zad logo.
For first time cell loaded few minutes so patience.
After that you have a nice Costum rom that is faster and more economical with better battery life stronger processor and better camera
If you have questions feel free to shoot.
The same as in the first part of post you do all on yours risk and I am not responsible for any problems and errors. I did everything according to these instructions and I got what i wanted.
CODES
codes for the service menu
*#*# 2846579 #*#*
code for the info on your phone
*#*# 4636 #*#*
All of this is wroted on few forums and i just wanted to put all in one place on the most visited forum for android (xda)
Also i would very like if someone with more expirience can read this tutorial and suggest something.
one more thing that i left out is RAM limitation and i hope to get some answers about that.
also if this helps someone feel free to thank me
Best regards
just flashed your custom rom without problems. its amazing what people can do..!! it seems based on the yoigo firmware and you have english and spanish as languages. everything you need is included filemanager app2sd etc. i like it very much.. thanks.
edit: could you kindly tell what the flashing of the bios (with pc) exactly is for?! thanks
If you dont flash that bios you cant wiPe devilk cache and you cant instal modified rom so basicly puting new bio is must for moded roms
It will be great if someone else can try this
As for wiping the data, there was only one thing possible to wipe. everything else was just a line of "NO" without option to change it.
I now have like 3 programs running in background thats cool... and of course its cool that many programs are removed that cant be removed otherwise (like documents2go trial)
But thE stock yoigo firmware is good too... It already comes with the possibility to install apps to SD u dont need extra program for that
EDIT :and i just come back to phone.. i left it on charger over night.. and its in the orange BIOS MODE !!!! so it crashed i guess ??? bad
EDIT2: Couldnt access 3g internet even tho i had the right profile .... will test some more
Unofrtunately the custom ROM has still a lot of bugs, be careful :-(
yeah its BS... i am going back to original yoigo at least there i can make it install all aps to SD automatically .... this hacked firmware cant even transfer most new aps to SD..
i hope i will have no problems cos of flashed bios...
thanks anyways both of you
edit: 2 more bugs.. adblock dont work (some java error crash) and the 11mb adobe flash cant be copied to sd or removed at all
out of 27 apps (a few downloaded by me) 7 can be copied to SD and 20 cant
is there anyone who tested cyan mode for this phone ?
this guy
http://translate.google.de/translat...ania.com/showthread.php?p=2880783#post2880783

I don't understand, if you root your phone yo unlock it from its carrier? I mean, free to use with whatever sim card from any mobile company?
Didnot work on U8652
12/14/11: I tried the rom upgrade on U8652 ATT fusion and received "install error' after unpacking.
Any suggestions?
12/15/11: I successfully installed the 'recoveryclockmod' after finding the proper android usb driver for winXp - 'pulse drivers'
then installed the custom rom. But the phone details on the installed custom rom says its a U8650 model not U8652.
Thanks OP
Thanks OP
I followed your instructions and installed recoveryclockmod and cyanogen_u8650-benru on my U8652. Now I finally have root and a nice ROM to play around with. Thanks OP
Does the root part work on a Huawei U8650 Sonic that came with android 2.3.5 and newer ROM ( U8650V100R001C343B851 ) ?
I need to root it to be able to use reverse USB tethering

unlockroot doesn't work, i tried the latest version (2.2) and i get the same error "Failed to get shell root !"
I have fried my U8650
I attempted a firmware update (official)... stage one completed... phone restarted and got stuck with a grey screen (no logo nothing just blank grey screen) all the soft buttons are turned on. constantly.
It wont go in to recovery, a simple touch to the power button turns it on and then it wont turn off unless I take the battery out.
I tried flashing with DC unlocker but my system wont detect it, I have installed the drivers provided at huawei site.
the phone was just a week old and am real pissed.
worst part, i did all that after reading this post
Anyone has any idea, how i can get it to work once again.

I didn't try this method and I'm only suggesting it because it sound like you almost bricked your phone.
You could try installing ClockworkMod recovery using fastboot (here is a guide for that androidforums.com/sonic-all-things-root/476263-root-guide.html just follow 1-9 ) and then flash the original rom for your phone (I found a list of stock roms here android.modaco.com/topic/350367-huawei-u8650 )
Dont forget to wipe data/cache before flashing the new rom ( this might be the cause for the state your phone is in now )
Update:
Got the drivers by installing hi space and letting it search for appropriate drivers. Worked real smooth.
Now Computer detects phone. But the instalador.bat keeps on searching for device :S
Stuck and stumped once again.
I want to believe but all I see is darkness... or a mildly lit lcd with greyness to be precise. thoughts, ideas anyone.
Thanks man. A ray of hope finally.
Only one problem.
My system won't detect the phone. When i plug it in via usb, it turns on. I mean all the buttons turn on, screen turns dark grey from dead black. But that is it. Computer wont detect it. I am running on windows 7.
Another system detected it which was running on XP but it wouldn't accept the drivers.

[Q] how to test touchscreen with adb

Hello, all ROM makers, developers, hackers and advanced users.
I have a problem and hope you can give me some good advice.
Here is my sad story
You can read the full description if you want. Or you can skip it - the main question in the end of this post..
I have bought a new Sony ericsson Live! with walkman (wt19i) phone during my newyear holydays in Prague. It seemd to be working fine.
It is from rev.3, manufacture date 11/49 (mounth/week)
When I came back home and started using it, I saw that after some inactivity period (about couple hours or maybe more) the touch screen, back and menu snsor buttons stops any responsing. Hardware buttons (home, volume, camera, walkman and power) are still working. The system also continues to work as usual, so I can turn it on (but can not slide to unlock), I can hear if somebody calls me (but can not answer). Alarms, notifications and all another functions are still working.
Once or twise it started to work again (by itself, without any actions by me) but after few time the problem repeated. I was very unhappy and sure it was a hardware problem (and of course the Czech warranty does not work in Russia), but now i'm not so sure.
The phone had 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware (android 2.3.4) from the box. First of all I tried to install SE PC Companion software, connect phone with usb and make factory reset... touchscreen started to work! But soon I saw this problem again.
The next day a new update was released and installed it (firmware .62). My phone was working again, but with the same result after some time.
You shoud know, that simple softreset (or ejecting and inserting battery) has absolutesy no effect on problem. After system starts I can not even unlock it. But flashing a new (or even the same) firmware (with flash tool or SE PCC) makes touchscreen and buttons working for some time. Have no idea why, but installing ROM with CWM (even with full wipe) does not make touch working.
Then I tried to use another custom kernels and ROMs. I unlocked the bootloader with fastboot tool, flashed one of custom ROMs from this forum (pre-rooted and with CWM). Then tried to use CM7.2 ROM... then another kernel and another ROM. Official, official-based, totally unofficial. The problem was with me each time after couple hours
I thought it is because some troubles in lock screen. Tried to install "no lock" app, so my phone did not use lock... but after some time touch freezes in home screen.
I disabled screen off while charging in settings and tried to leave the phone "wired" for some time... actually it worked fine all the time, and when I dicsonnected it it was still working... for couple hours.
I tried to install "no sleep" applications that does not allow CPU and screen to suspend. But it have no influense.
I even flashed CM9.0 ICS (very) beta ROM with the same result.
If it is just hardware problem - why it solves (for some time, but solves) with flashing? If it is a software problem - why it doesnt solve with new kernels and ROMs? My brain is ready to explode.
Now I have only one last idea and ask you to help me.
The question is:
How can I use adb or adb shell comands to get more information about the problem with touch?
I saw there is some log (logcat, stderr) tools, debug tools. I saw working lsmod, dmesg and mount commands in shell.
I think I shoud get all this information when all is ok. And then get it again when touch stops working and then compare, is it a good idea?
Where exactly shoud I see? How to test or get some touch input device info with adb? Is there any item in /dev that i can explore? Or something in dmesg? Where are touch driver located and how can I check if it is working?
I have some basic linux and andriond skills, but have not enought expierence.
I very (VERY) hope somebody can give me any useful advice to continue solving the problem. Where to see, what to do?
Thank you
P.S.: and sorry for mistakes, of course. English is not my native language.
P.P.S.: i am not sure where is the best place for this question: here or in xperia subforums. But I decided that this question is not xperia-specific and can be useful for other people in future.
Anybody? I have Lenovo Yoga B6000 with touchscreen problem and will be good if anyone know how can i test TS through ADB or shell.

Using Cyanogenmod and lost access to mobile data (3g)? Read here and reply.

Fixing mobile data (3g) after installing Cyanogenmod 7 (nightly)
Hello all. I'm writing this as a long-time lurker and custom ROM / kernel user, who has been helped along greatly by this forum.
I had a long-standing issue that I couldn't find any clarity on: my mobile data access didn't work after switching to custom Roms/Kernels from LG's original Froyo Rom.
After months of thinking it was just an odd bug, and something to live with (since I rarely use data), I decided to look a little deeper into the problem. I found it difficult to even find information on the problem - there's a lot of bad information, and a lot of hard-to-read information from friendly, but not perfectly fluent English speakers.
In short, I'm hoping that others who are struggling with this issue will find this post with some Googling, and won't have to be as confused as I was.
After doing the following, I have everything working perfectly and here's how I did it:
1) I knew that the right baseband (under About Phone, in Settings) had something to do with mobile connections, including 3g data authentication and transfer. I found that v10 (and older) basebands are considered the 'old' baseband, while v20 basebands are considered 'new' basebands.
2) Cyanogenmod often reports the baseband incorrectly, so finding out what baseband you're on is unreliable through the About Phone menu, if you're already on CM7.
3) There are some scary sounding techniques to update your baseband (one involves using a poorly documented program called 'LGMDP-v1.5.exe'). These techniques can apparently brick your phone, so I avoided them. I might be wrong on some of the details here, so let me know!
4) I instead obtained the latest baseband by simply letting the LG update software (in my case from LG.ca) update my phone to Android 2.3. I noticed that I now had baseband v20. My mobile data worked!
5) I then re-rooted the phone, using SuperOneClick.
6) Installed the latest CM7 nightly. Mobile data no longer worked
6.5) I should mention, I tried other ROM/Kernel combinations and ended up having crashes and hangs on boot - thankfully I could use 'adb reboot recovery' to get back to Clockwork Recovery, when even holding various keys on reboot to do this didn't work).
7) Installed the wonderful ta-gb 1.1 kernel (thanks to all of the devs who worked on this and others like it).
8) And lastly (and possibly most importantly) I came across this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...gingerbread/prebuilt/common/etc/apns-conf.xml
It's a list of APN information, which corresponds to different carriers, and appears to be necessary for mobile data connections. My carrier (Koodo) was not listed here, and therefore appears to not be included in even the latest Cyanogenmod 7 (as of Feb 2012).
9) This led me to find this: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist
Which happened to include the APN information for my carrier that I needed to put in, under Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Inputting that information made my 3g connection start up instantly. I was able to check that things looked good by typing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer, and looking under Phone Information.
Maybe you're a veteran CM7 user, and think this is obvious newb stuff, but I want to leave this thread here for any other users who were stuck as long as I was.
If you fixed this issue with a different method, please share what you did here. If you're a ROM/Kernel dev with more insight on anything that I covered, please comment.
Cheers.
Are you doing this on v20 baseband?
I also have trouble with data on nightly's. I know DJ posted on the cyanogen forum today, saying Adam got a new Sim (128k, the ones causing problems) for testing. There should be a fix soon, fixing this problem.

Yes. Is your carrier's APN information available to try all that I wrote above?

You should be able to get all your apn information from your carrier provider even if cyanogenmod doesnt have it.
Apn is nothing to do with being a veteran cm user or that, you used to always have to enter that kind of stuff in the old phones when you used g and 3g, in my case my carrier would sms me the settigs automatically, such as it still does for my nokia e63

I have installed the nightlyfoure v3.8 and I am not getting 3g.I am getting edge connection. When I activate 3g it shows I have only gprs. I live in a place where 3g is available and I have v20g baseband.
Can you also tell us the procedure to edit/overwrite the original apns-config.xml if you did so? Thank you dude

Is your carrier listed in either of the links I posted about in step 8 or 9?

I didn't edit 'apns-conf.xml', but I did find my carrier information in the link I posted in step 9) and typed it in manually into Access Point Names.
I suppose you could edit the apns-conf.xml file either in the source code, and compile CM7 yourself (time consuming). Or you could use the adb program that comes with the Android developer kit, and shell into the rooted phone (to see it, do: adb shell; cd /etc; ls). You could then probably edit it in place (might be risky), or pull the file, edit it, and then push it back with various adb commands that you can google
The code.google.com link I posted above might be the best way to request your APN details get added to the file in the next CM7 release.

Perfect, thanks but wait wait wait! You also faced the "not able to save APNs" problem? Also, I've just found out that my carrier (Vodafone IT) is listed among other carriers in APNlist you've linked... what's the deal?
(please be patient with me dude, I might seem really dumb but... I'm learning as I go )
My provider's APN is already added.
But sometimes, it fails to connect to DATA let it be 2G/3G.
Reboot solves it....

I did not encounter this problem. Does anyone else have any input on this issue?
Thank you bambu85 I was stuck in the same situation for the longest time. I am using oxygen mod and your post helped me greatly. Data is now working! Sure the information might already be there but for us koodoers it's not so easy to decipher. Thanks

[Q] Please help me out: is in my situation good to flash?

Hi
I have the Samsung Galaxy S I9100 and a few problems. Please proceed and read carefully.
Summery of my problems:
(1) The famous clipboard bug: when copy text for about 16 times, the phone restarts. Samsung won't update the SII so the problem will not be recovered.
(2) Home button doesn't work: I read somewhere that this can be recoverd trough deleting a special map with root acess. Is that true?
(3) Front cam don't work correct: this is a software problem because when the battery is unloaded (phone go off) and charged for about 20% the front cam works again. Is this a bug?
All the problems don't solve, even after: clean cache per app, clean cache in recovery mode (via the reboot recovery app because home button doesn't work), multiple full factory reset. I have these problems for about 4 months now, and I'm getting CRAZY!
Now comes the part with flasing, for example CM. My 5 questions:
- The one-click installer is compatible with my phone (thank God!). Is it safe without a working home button? Are there other things I need to take care off?
- Will flashing CyanogenMod solve the above 3 problems?
- My phone is rooted, will this cause problems during installation?
- I want the stable version. I there a danger that functions like the alarm won't work? I read somewhere that CM is not reponsible for eventually a loose of job because the alarm won't work...
- Will my network provider keep on working after flashing? Can I keep on talking and using 3G?
3 more questions about CM vs other mods:
- I have now official 4.1.2> if I don't like CM , is there also a one-click backup and reload installer available?
- Will flashing to a new official stock android version solve the above three problems?
- What other things I could try to solve the problems, before trying to flash?
I hope someone can provide me with answers and can help me to get a better phone!
(Please explain in child language because first I'm Dutch and my English is not THAT good and second I am a noob in flashing, roms, CM.......rooting succeed because of another one-click installer. I love them!)

Getting rid of Managed Device / Enterprise control

Hi guys,
I've got a Nokia 7.1 with the latest Android (10). The device is under full control by my company. This means that It says that it is under control everywhere (text on lockscreen, statusbar etc), that certain things are blocked (entering developer mode, installing apk's outside of Play Store etc) and that I have a personal and work profile on the phone. If I delete the last one, the phone automatically resets (!). For me this is a reason to get rid of it asap.
First things first: the IT guys said this is okay (there are people that only have a personal phone and are allowed to use this too within the company), but they just won't help me with it So here I am for your help!
Do you guys know how I can disable/remove the corporate stuff? I tried a normal reset, but the company stuff is allready there on first boot and forces you to load and install it all before you can properly enter the Android environment. I tried installing the most recent 'stock' firmware from this forum by ADB sideload, but it aborts because it's an older version (downgrade).
Do you have any idea how to get rid of it all? Where is the company stuff incorporated/embedded? Is that in firmware or on a deeper level? And is it possible without unlocking bootloader?
Thank you in advance!
