Android Backup and restore through recovery mode - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. New here. So few day ago i bought a Micromax canvas doodle phone with a Android lollipop 5.0 and rooted it. And well, Micromax phones have a lot of bloatware and during the process kicking blotware's ass off of my phone i deleted an app called keep and it messed up my system sending it into bootloop.
I made a backup of all my my data n system to the sd card through recovery mode and flashed thr stock rome again. And here comes my question.
If u restore the backup from the sd card through recovery mode wouldn't it result in the same problem as the sysyem wont have the keep app i Uninstalled?

Yes it will have the problem if the backup is taken after uninstalling the keep app

Just restore "system" from your nandroid backup.
You did a nandroid backup, right?
The quickest and best thing to do would be to do a factory reset if you can and then flash another rom with odin, or just flash another rom.
Can I ask why you wanted to remove or move that file?

I mount the \ system, but nothing happens. i assumed that allowed me to view the system folder on my computer?? Since when i mount USB storage i can see my USB storage!

the rom zip file is still on my sd card....could i just flash the rom back on the same way i did it the first time ? (through CWM install zip from sd card)
hehe
nandroid backup = cwm backup
restore your backup and try screwing up with your ROM again : )
ended up re-flashing the same rom.
phone started up perfect with all the settings intact.
thanks for help guys

[Q] Troubles booting after installing BusyBox

I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Titanium Backup installed on the phone and I'm fairly sure it was backing up regularly. But how would I use that when I can't even boot the phone? I tried booting into custom recovery and recovering but no files were present.

Lol accidentally given a thanks but eh, doesn't matter.
You'll need to reinstall, since you have no backup to work with and we don't have a flashable zip of the WIND system files for ya, sorry.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?
Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.

Chinese Android Back Up the ROM help please

Hi All,
I have just received my new chinese dual sim mobile phone and I wont to back the entire system, ROM and everthing else as new. (before I tourn it in to an expensive brick).
My question is what software (for the PC running win7 64bit) and or app(s) do I need to be able to do this.
Do I need to root the phone before I can do this?
Yes you have to root it for complete backup...
Because without rooting you can't backup system files..
So first root it
Than install clockwork recovery
Than you can backup a nandroid backup(complete backup of system/Rom, data cache and android secure)...
Without rooting you will only able to backup sd card contents and installed apps..no system data
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

Hi AJ88, thank you for replying to my post.
I have been to the android playstore and found ROM manager and premium as well, when I typed in clockwork recovery in the popup, as I was typing in, I saw two apps one was called clockwork recovery and the other was called clockwork recovery mod, both of which sent me to the ROM manager. I take it that this is not what you are saying that I should download, if that is the case where can I get clockwork recovery from?
Thanks chunky...
P.S. ROM Manger does not recognise chinese mobils as they are not in the ROMs list.

[Q] File transfer to internal and sd fail.

s4 verizon
i have searched up and down for some one with a similar issue. i have recently rooted and flashed a rom, i had a few failed attempts with twerp flashing a rom so gave up and flashed back to stock and file transferring is still messed up. only way to get data on my phone is to download it directly to my phone using my phone (roms through xda app)
i am currently running synergy rom fully rooted.
any help or ideas would help.
i have re re re re re installed samsung drivers a ton. i even went as far to install kies..
i have even restored the dell computer i have.. and made sure everything is up to date.
i have posted a screen of the
"Cannot copy item..." notification i get.
UPDATE-
so i tried putting the file in a folder and transferring it and it worked,,, wtf.
still my question is out there,,, is this a hidden android thing that will be on new devices??? or is this the computers fault? should i do a compleate restore to stock on this computer
?
I was having a similar issue and found that apps like titanium backup may restore a system app from another rom that would make my phone act like your phone. Do you use titanium backup?

[Q] I8552 Samsung Grand Quattro goes straight in CWM Recovery, after a fail backup

Hey, this is the first time I'm posting a problem here. I have a Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro (I8552). I rooted my phone yesterday via cwm recovery, and then made a backup using ROM Manager. It rebooted my phone directly into a backup page where it started backing it up, but my internal memory wasn't big enough so it failed and since then I haven't been able to boot my phone up... When I try to turn it on it goes straight into CWM Recovery page, and when I click "reboot system now" it turns off the screen and then reboots it again into CWM Recovery...
Then, since I couldn't access the apps (as the phone won't start), I made another backup through CWM Recovery, but this time in my external SD Card which had about 6 gb free space. So it made and completed the backup without any problems. But when I restore it from my ext SD Card it restores the system and stuff but then when it comes to data it shows the message
Error while restoring /data!
Click to collapse
. Every time.
And so I tried
wipe data/factory reset
Click to collapse
it does it, and completes the process, but still it won't boot up, neither by
reboot system now
Click to collapse
nor by removing battery and trying to restart.
Mind you, I didn't flash any new ROMs, it was still running my stock ROM when this happened...
So to sum up the things I've tried
1. Reboot system now
2. Backup in extSD Card (which worked) and restore from the same (which didn't work)
3. Wipe data/factory reset
Also one more thing, before any of this mess was made, right after I rooted my phone, I made a backup of all apps through the app called
Titanium Backup root
Click to collapse
.
Is there any way I can get out of this mess? And maybe make my phone accessible again.
And if somehow by sheer stroke of luck and your expertise, if I do get out of this mess, is there any way to root my phone again and recover the apps or appdata from the already made CWM backup? or the Titanium Backup I made (or is it gonna be gone because of the factory reset?).
Thank you in advance for any help or try you might

Yeah, but then will I be able to restore from the same backup (cwm) that's causing problems now, or will it not work even then?
And what about the backup I made with the Titanium Backup app, will I be able to retrieve app data from there?
Because the very reason I was backing it all up was to protect the app data, and it's pretty important. So is it possible to save it after stock flashing?
The stock recovery flasher will help u get out of that loop. Check the link posted above.

Thank you so much... the link worked like a charm. I flashed it through extSD card and it loaded and on clicking reboot it booted the phone right up. I had to go through the factory reset setting as I clicked it before. But almost no important data was lost. All photos videos and documents remained. And for better or for worse the whole thing actually made my phone a lot faster...
Thank you so much.
