OnePlus X or HTC M8 in camera ? - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, so im about to buy one of those devices, Oneplus X or M8, i live both phones, but i still dont know which is better in camera, so if someone own both phones, tell me which one is better ?

The M8 takes better rear camera images in terms of color and saturation and low light performance. The OnePlus X images have more detail and are sharper and it has a better front camera.

It's not AS good. It's about as good as the M8 Eye I'd say. If camera is a priority is go for the M8. But the X is not bad.

mostly i use camera for taking selfies (front camera ), i can get M8 refurbished for same price , but i think im going for opx
i had M7, front camera was good, but that 4 UP on back wasnt good, so i can expect prety much the same with M8

The OPX is a great phone and excellent if you want a new phone. The M8 however has better resale value, better speakers and better software optimisation. Also the camera takes good pictures IMO. So the real question would be whether you want a new phone or are OK with a refurbished phone IMO. Also, all of the Xs strong points like build, screen, etc. are matched by the M8. The X wins in bezels and size though. It's thinner. And smaller. And has a much better screen to body ratio. I think it looks better overall too.

im ok with refurbished phone, i used M7 like that, but i love opx design , and M8 is heavy and its big, however if i can expect almost the same pictures on my opx like m8 then its prety ok, ill go for OPX

Hey there, definitely the OnePlus X. Had an M8 and besides the specs, the pictures on the OnePlus X are way better. Color, light and crispness are not comparable, its just wayyy better.

Everyone must be only looking at pictures on their phones.
When you look at the pictures on a PC with good display (2560x1600, for example), it's obvious it's only 4MP. Zooming in just to 125% it looks like a 10 year old P&S. LOL
However for phone "snapshots" it's great. In lower light it's better than the S4. If you have very steady hands and use night mode on the S4 that cam does OK. But it has more lag and a hit with processing delay, etc.
Video looks better than the S4, much less shaky and the audio is devoid of all the pops and clicks that the S4 has. I've had more than one S4 (both 16 and 32GB) and they all have this problem. It's the mic because the voice recorder app also has these noises.
The audio on the HTC appears lower because it's not using any background compression. I have not tested its ability to record very loud (ie concerts) events. We did have thunderstorms this evening but (of course) by the time I stopped recording is when the lightning hit across the road!
Pictures on Phones - HTC ONE!
Pictures on Computer - S4
Mainly due to megapixels. But overall I feel like the One has the better camera experience.

Yes, the sounds are actually pleasant. Usually it's the first thing I turn off (shutter, focus sounds) but the ones HTC uses actually sound like a real camera, LOL.
I came to the HTC One from a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the One's camera - though I (obviously) wish it were at least 6mp or 8mp.
I got a chance to play a little with it last weekend, both indoors and outdoors. As others have said, when viewing photos on the phone the results are great. I think it may be my favorite camera out of all the phones I've had in the past. There are some drawbacks to it, though, caused by the 4mp camera - namely, as others have said, blowing up photos on the computer and extracting good detail.
Here's a link to a reference shot I used for a quick review of the camera on my Google+ profile, if you're interested:

of course htc one would be better than galaxy nexus..
has anyone noticed significant difference going from stock att 126 firmware to arhd 129 in camera quality?
It probably should be said.... If you only take photos to upload them to instagram or Facebook, you'll be more than happy with the HTC One.
By the by, if you print your photos or have an high resolution computer screen (for wallpapers you took with your phone), you might not be happy with the HTC One.

I've never met a phone camera that was a complete substitute for a dedicated camera, but (to me) the One seems to be great for a phone camera. If you want great quality photos, you really need a Digital SLR. But for everyday quick snapshots the One does as good as almost any other phone out there.
I've learned to take most pictures in HDR mode which is similar to what I did on my old iPhone.

Why OIS is so huge!

OIS on the G2 kills the competition check this out http://www.tinhte.vn/threads/so-sanh-camera-galaxy-s4-lg-g2-va-sky-a880.2160586/ only go for the low light shots!

I'd say they split the daytime shots. some better on the G2 and vis versa. But let's be honest. The camera is fantastic on the G2. That combined with everything else makes it a no-brainer. Just wish it was waterproof like the Z1
mhm. I'm def getting it. I'm hearing people say verizon stores don't know if they'll have it Thursday.. i'm pissed.

I have to take example pics like those with a grain of salt. Most of my pics are indoors and I always take more than one shot because the settings seem to change a bit with almost every shot. There is always one that looks better than another. But overall it does seem like the G2 (by way of image stabilization) can take better low light pics when used as a point and click.
My S4 has a Auto Detect Night Mode that works pretty good and I would probably use it for some of those shots. I wonder how the comparison would have looked if it was used.
I must get one.I'll sell my phone for it.Great battery life, great camera, great one hand use(at least for me),great display. What else does someone want in a phone?
The OIS on Android phones are pathetic (HTC One, LG G2, Note 3) because they try to do the bare minimum and keep the size small. Sony is even worse. They don't have OIS at all, to keep that 8.5mm body flat with no camera bulge. OIS is only as good as the size. The bigger the springs and ball bearings, the better the OIS. That's why the Lumia 920/925/1020 have such smooth OIS and great night shots. The HTC One also has great night shots because of its gigantic pixels, but the resolution and OIS sucks. If only there was an 8MP version of the HTC Ultrapixel camera with Nokia's OIS. That would be the best low-light shooter around.

Nothing. Considering my last 2 devices have been the orginal Incredible and the Gnex, I'm beyond due for some friggen battery life. Cam, display and SD800 are just a bonus. This will be my first ever LG, looking forward to trying something different.

[FIX] Remove the lag and low FPS in the camera...

I think i might have found a fix for the slow FPS and lag in the camera in low light condition.
Try installing the new google camera app, from android 4.4 kitkat, and use your camera at night with both apps, you will see a difference.
But there's a little compatibility issue with the app, it doesnt scale with the phone resolution.
hxxp:// w w w.mediafire.com/?g3i3i9skdh8s6xl
I find the LG's one too over exposed. I think the app is trying to increase the exposure too much in night shot, thus the lag slower fps. What do you guys think??
Good ol' HDB flats! Hola fellow Singaporean!
Yea the Google cam works fine but the resolution is capped at 8mp unfortunately.
Singapore +1 Haha

Is this just a standard apk or do you need to be rooted?
yea but look how much brighter the LG one is. although the colors seem to be a little off, i don't mind it. especially in low light situations where i want to take a pic and not use flash. i don't mind that its slower because it has to compensate for the low light. and it does low light pics amazingly btw. if it was slow in bright light conditions, then thats an issue. now to work on the focusing and overall blurriness of pics...
I mean, that's not a fix lol its just using another app. every other app works in low light with higher fps, it's just lgs camera that doesn't. this title is misleading.

Google's camera is still a little laggy... Plus, I've noticed that the navigation bar is not hiding, I don't know if is just with me.
I also noticed that the G2 is not fast to focus when we are at low light conditions.... Very poor. I wish LG could make this better, because even the front camera is laggy.

I used to have a SIII.
So, I'm comparing with my SG SIII camera.
With low light.... it is very laggy, even the Google camera apk, it is not as good as I would expect.
I bought this phone because of the quality of the camera; sure it is amazing with bright conditions, but, it is very poor with low lights...
Even the flash is laggy.
I compared mine in low light next to my evo. There was slightly more lag (less then a second more), but the image quality was thousands times better. Could barely make out anything with the evo, other then the fact there were things in the room. With the g2, you could actually see what was in the room. And with the mod's from this site, got a clear picture that looked almost the same as actually being in the room.
The image quality is good. OK, I accepted that. But, in my case, for example, I have a 5 months old child, I Love taking pictures of her. With low light it got so laggy that is really hard to take one without blurring, 'cause she is moving all the time, so, I was expecting a little bit of improvement on the camera's speed.

OK let's just all spazzzzzzz about meeting Singaporeans on XDA. Heyo fella, happy CNY in advance
Anyway, coming from a Lumia 920 with crazy lowlight shots, I've given up on using the G2 camera in the night time totally. Tried LG-based camera apps on different ROMs and AOSP ones, they all suck. Takes super long to focus and picture turns out blur. OIS is just but a gimmick (or maybe I have extra-shaky hands, idk?).

I have both in hand right now and I'm torn I did some adjustements in the G2 so I think it will suffice I dont use the front camera as much also , it just erked me that it sucked in comparison to the G2 if you end up getting one you will see what I'm talking about exactly in regards to the front camera, it's just more vibrant and sharp on the Nexus 5 ( front) the back I think G2 does a tad better but sometimes I feel like it's overexposed
I do like the G2 Display and battery life I hated the Stock UI so I flashed PA 4.4.2 so it's pretty much a carbon copy of what a nexus 5 would look like, flashed G2 on 4.4.2 is a better battery/display Nexus 5, factoring in the fact that it costs more than the Nexus 5 , Nexus 5 comes out a solid solid phone I'm really confused ........

I'm getting the g2 for same price as nexus 5 since I'm doing a complicated trade on craigslist. I'll be selling my phone to one guy and buying from another for same price. Now the issue with this is if one doesnt show up it ruins it for the other two. So hopefully it goes well. I'm sure it would be easy to sell the g2 and get a nexus 5 again if I don't like it but I feel like I'll like the g2 better just for the battery alone

That's the only reason i bought the G2 I found it for a steal price , I could sell it and make a few extra bucks and just keep my N5 because it's essentially the same - Display and Battery I could live with that for the right price I'm going to keep using it for a few days and decide now I'm leaning towards the G2 lol

A new camera app isn't going to change the results because the problem is partially hardware-related and partially firmware related:
engadget.com said:
The OnePlus X's camera may have the same megapixel count as its more expensive brethren, but the similarities end there. Yes, it's got a 13-megapixel sensor, but it's a smaller sensor than the OnePlus 2's, and so lets in less light. It's also placed behind an f/2.2 lens, which is a third-stop slower than the lens on the 2. The result of these concessions is a much poorer experience.
In good lighting conditions, the X can capture a decent amount of detail, but it's difficult to predict whether you'll get a good photo. There's just no consistency here; in a typical five-minute shooting period, I saw underexposed and overexposed photos, vibrant colors, subdued colors and totally inaccurate colors. The X is quick to focus, though, and shutter lag is minimal.
In low light, things get worse. I took the phone along to an industry event featuring live music, and happily snapped away. During the show the images seemed fine, but I came home to find they were universally bad. There's an over-aggressive anti-noise algorithm that sucks all the detail out of photos, and the daylight exposure and color issues carry over as well.
I'm not sure that all of the OnePlus X's problems are due to the sensor; it's more likely the software. That's not to say that OnePlus can fix everything -- this will never be a great camera -- but white balance and exposure settings seem like something OnePlus could improve through updates. And it really needs updates.

Software updates won't change the fact that it's a small-ish sensor behind mediocre glass. A so-so camera is all this phone has.

Agree - updates won't radically change the quality, but they can improve it.
Also, if camera is that important to people, you'll have to spend at least double than what you are spending for the X.

Oneplus x camera / Moto g 2015

So both of these phones got 13mp rear sensors. Though moto g got its from nexus 6 with f/2.0 aperture which was pretty good and opx got Samsung isocell with f/2.2 aperture which is capable of capturing great images in low light as well.
Is moto g with $200 price tag a better camera phone than opx with $250 ?
Clearly opx pisses on moto g in performance aspect.
So what do u guys think ?
PS. I own both the devices and front camera seems better in opx.

What I found is that in low light conditions my OPX takes forever to take a photo. I tap to focus and then the shutter but I takes a lot of time to focus again before actually take the photo. Is that the same on the moto g and on your OPX? I run Mokee ROK btw but it was same on Oxygen OS I think.

Moto g3 is quite snappy in taking pic in low light that's why I was unhappy with the camera experience after spending more bucks.
Pics taken with opx are grainy as hell and videos (oml!!) , they are soo laggy at 10 or 15fps!
In low light: moto g 2015 >>> opx
Hope they will solve this issue in the January ota update.

Daylight pictures are indeed very great and bright with an amazing detail. It's just the low light images I'm concerned about. Despite having the isocell sensor renowned for it's low light imaging, I can't see much difference between opx and my moto e?
