I cannot get my SD card to be read/write. I've...
1. Used Next app SDFix.
2. Used Fx Explorer with Root to reclassify as read/write.
Neither of those options worked. The weird thing is I've had no probs with the stock based rom I'm on until a couple days ago and I can't think if any thing I might have done for this to start.
When no go into TWRP it won't let me so anything from the ext sd card. I dont know what happend to cause this but I cannot figure out how to fix it.
I even wiped my rom and started with a fresh install and didn't restore anything yet I'm still having problems with the ext sdcard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I tried the LG g4 sd write fix 10n zip which worked but TWRP still cannot view any files on the ext sd card.

Use xposed HandleExternalStorageHandleExternalStorage. Only thing that worked for me
android 6.0 maybe fix it?? because SDfix is for root??
I'm not rooted, so that option won't work for me. It did help in some apps when I put the card in my PC, went into Properties, and named the card.

I'm currently running Synergy rom and I would like to format my SD card as its been filling up since I bought the phone in March and I don't have the time to pick and choose folders. I know that on previous phones i've owned, if you format the SD card and reboot, the rom will write the necessary files and folders to function properly. My question is, has anyone done this on their TB while running a rooted rom successfully? Any feedback would be appreciated...

I backed up what I wanted to keep and then booted into recovery and formatted my SD card that way. Rebooted my phone and copied back what I wanted. No problem at all.
If you do have any nandroid backups I would recommend keeping those just in case, or take one and copy it to your PC before you format the card.

Sweet.. Thanks for your feedback. I will hit the Thanks button for you.

My Rezound just started doing this in the past two days. Stock storage under settings can not see my external SD Card. No apps installed on the phone can see it either. Root explorer is the same. Funny thing is that stock Recovery can see it. I can flash RUUs. I can boot to AmonRa and its file explorer can see it and things flash fine. Anyone ever had this problem? I have factory reset in recovery...reflashed last ota RUU.....still have the same problem. The SD card works fine in my wife's phone.

Does it give you the option to format it from within your rom? Or does it just say unavailable? Do you have another sd card to test?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Does it with any SD card I put in.....says unavailable and is grayed out?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Have you tried doing right after doing an ruu like stock unrooted?
And did you s off? That can corrupt external sd cards but that doesn't explain other sd cards that weren't used during the process.
I hate to jump to conclusions but it sounds like a hardware malfunction. Maybe time for a warranty replacement

I've been S-off for quite some time. I have gotten it to read the card a couple of times today. I was able to restore some apps with titanium. When I plugged the phone in to charge ...I saw a quick popup....." SD Card unexpectedly removed". When it starts and the External Card is in Settings the phone works normally. But when the SD Card disappears all of the Apps that draw from or write to the External SD Card behave Strangely. It is very near stock now. It is frustrating that it works very well when set up excluding the external SD Card. I do have alot of things on the SD Card that I use a lot.....Guess I'll call support
Can you pull your SD Card and plug it into a computer? Copy over everything to a folder then reformat Card and put in phone, then if works copy everything back over. If still doesn't work I would suggest flashing the stock image since it will basically reset everything. Good luck.
I would keep working with people on here, those kinds of issues and support usually equal face palm or headache.
For reason unknown...when I restarted this morning the ext_SD mounted fine this morning and has been working fine since 5am. We'll see if everything makes it thru the day...lol

If it happens again, go into storage and select mount sd card. If it is mounted already, unmount then mount. Happens to me occasionally.

Well finally just started over....Wiped and reflashed phone. Then copied and reformatted SD Card, copied back to card ......everything is fine so far. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.
similar problem
I am having a similar problem. I just installed Neo's RAGE 1.9 rom, inverted Gapps, and flashed the boot.img since I am S-ON. Now I can't get to my ext SD once the phone boots up. Similar to manbat above, I can browse it in AmonRa, and even flash from it there, but after booting up the phone I get the "damaged SD card" message, and I can't access it. I've re-flashed the rom 3 times, and also the boot.img...even re-downloaded the rom, inverted gapps and tried all over again - but nothing changed :/ If anyone can help me out on this it'd be greatly appreciated!
You will have to copy your SD Card to computer. Since your phone is reading the SD Card as damaged you will have to reformat on your card on the computer and then copy your information back to your card. This is what worked for me.

I just installed TWRP on my N3, when it first booted up there were some problems that I've come acrossed. First it made some apps not work..then I went into Astro to move the backup I just did to my external SD, It froze on me while moving the file so I restarted the phone. Now I can't even access my external SD card anymore. It just shows up that I don't have a SD card mounted...Any fix for this?
What I have and what I've done to my N3:
8gb SD card from my old S3
Rooted N3 from Chainfire's post and that's it
Installed TWRP
I have the same problem. I have been searching for 3 days for a solution. I am coming from the g note 2 with 64 gig extreme SanDisk sd card. When i put the sd card back in my note 2 it works fine. This sucks, I hope a solution is posted soon.

I remember reading some where that someone suggested backing up your SD card to your PC, formatting the card in the N3, then moving everything back over to it. Hope it helps...
As far as the 64gb cards.
Remove everything from card.
Format as fat 32.
Replace your files.
Viola.

Use this method and flash a custom deodexed room and problems gone..
1st step
1. Download openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-hltespr.img.tar file.
Provide by here http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltespr/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.2-hltespr.img.tar
2. Now download an app from playstore call ZArchiver.apk
3. Whit ZArchiver extract the file above and copy the recovery.img
4. Next Save the recovery.img file in the SD ..
2nd step
Download flashify app
3rd step
Open the app call Flashify and Find the recovery.img in the SD and flash it
4 step
Nothing to do just reboot and you will see the magic.....

Best bet would be like others suggested, backup the SD to PC, reformat card and try again. [Have you tried other directory explorers ? I use Root Explorer with no issues]
I am using my 64GB card from my E4GT [S2] with no reformatting required and no problems what so ever [so far -- knock on wood]

If nothing can read [detect] the card then it is dead, kill it with fire to make sure the data is 10000000% destroyed :[
The issue is as on now TWRP cannot read exfat. Most SD cards are formatted in exfat by default. You will not be able to reformat the card on windows 7/8 machines in fat32 with out a third party program. Easiest way to reformat your card to fat32 is go to TWRP recovery and choose wipe. It will auto format your card to fat32. "be sure you backed up anything on your card prior to wipe". After you see the card has been wiped go back to install in TWRP and you will be able to choose your sd card.
I think I have seen this addressed somewhere before but I can not find it.
I have just updated to KitKat and am using Freeza's Stockish rom. When I try to run a restore in Mybackup, I am getting an error that says, Unable to write to sd card. Make sure the sd card is inserted properly, is not connected to your pc, and is not full.
When I go into Es file explorer, it shows all the files there.
How do I fix this?
I also see in Titanium backup that is says sd card not writable.
I GOT IT!!!

This seems to be a common problem on the deodex rom. I will post what I did to fix it. Just know when you go into a file explorer it is going to show 2 external sd cards. They are both the same, it just shows 2 now. You have to do a simple build prop edit with a program like root explorer. Just navigate to system/etc/permissions/platform.xml. long press on platform.xml and select open in text editor. Under WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE...Add this entry... <group gid="media_rw" />

Yea, I tried @micmars xml edit, it worked to create folders on the SD card but I still couldn't save twrp files to my SD card in recovery.

The fix that I found allows me to do anything with the sd card.
I get the error when initially trying to copy the files.. seems like the error rests with the internal storage and not the sd card.

Here's an interesting read.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/0...ote-3-android-4-4-problem-hits-micro-sd-card/
The "Problem" is not actually a problem apparently. Google actually designed KitKat this way. They are trying to keep as much as possible on internal storage.
I'm also on Freza's Stockish ROM and had the same problem. I can confirm that the platform.xml edit appears to fix the problem of not being able to write to the external SD.
But strangely, Titanium Backup still reports that the backup folder is not-writeable, but then when I run a backup it finishes successfully.

Same thing happened to me. I went into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik, and rebooted. Everything showed up properly then.
TWRP issue fixed by flashing the file located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471564&page=47 Post number 462.
I already have apps on my SD card that I had moved over in the past but any other apps I move now become corrupted and useless. I'm hoping that formating the card will fix this issue. Can I just copy all contents from the card over to my pc then copy them back on after the format? Should everything work correctly? I have 6gigs of spotify music and other big data files. Hope someone answers Thanks!

I'm on lollipop with klte root. Man I messed up. I transfered all the contents from my sd over to my pc to format it and when I switched everything back over the folders came up as all empty. And I can't seem to recreate a folder called .android_secure. My storage info shows that about 9gigs of space are being used on the sd but the folders show nothing. 6gigs were of pure spotify offline music. This is not a good day. Tons of pics were there too.

I have done the same. In MM was concerned that my SD data would be gone. Made the transfer to the PC of everything. After seeing what MM did to my SD, I formatted the SD again and transferred from the PC to the SD and all was fine. If you want that info back and it is still on the PC, then just do the same. In my case after the format, all was as before.
I lost everything on the card. Dammit. I want to just do a complete hard reset of my phone. If I do a backup with kies will I be able to add all my apps and settings back on my phone afterwards with a recovery of the backup?

I recommend using Kies and Another Backup Solution as I've had problems with Kies backups in the past, causing me to lose saved texts, contacts, memos, settings, etc.
I personally recommend using Helium backup from ClockworkMod, a quick search through google play should get it for ya.
Happy resetting! :3
EDIT: Just realized this thread is old... you've probably already reset the phone. Sorry I didn't pay attention to the date stamp..
It's almost scary that you would have responded to this thread right now. I am going through the exact same mess again. I tried applying a fix to make the external card detectable by other apps which were not detecting it. Well after doing that none of my apps or data on the card show up or work. The files are there if I explore root folder though. How do I regain the pathway to the card? Through my USB on pc it does not show the external but it does if I use sd card reader with the sd card by itself. Last time I copied everything from the card to my pc then formatted. It all became a senseless mess when I tried returning everything to the card. Lost everything. I tried backing up with kies before but it did not give option to backup sd card. Please help is an understatement. I just checked the sd card for errors using Windows tools but no errors popped up.

The reason for this occurrence (as well as how to fix it) depend on how the fix was applied.
Please describe the nature of the fix as specifically as you can. Things like where you found it, what it does, how you installed it, as well as if this is the same SD card, will help the most.
Edit: if you could also include the file system that's on the card that would be great too.
Thank you for responding. I'm not sure what the file system on the card would be but I've attached a screenshot of what I did. The name of the app is there.

Well I found the app in question in the play store, and was unable to track down exactly what it does, so we can't get anything out of that.
To get the file system that's on the card all you have to do is put it in a Windows PC and look at the drive properties.
At this point the best thing to do would be to back up everything on the card to a computer.
