Interested in developing for the V10, need advice - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm just now getting the inspiration to do some developing for our device, but I need pointing in the right direction where to begin. I'm interested in creating ROMS, kernels, CM13 porting, etc, and I have the time to dedicate to it, which I'm willing to do for this device, since I think it's rad and that it's Verizon community could use some love. Thanks for any advice you can throw my way, I promise to soak it right up.

Oh..oh my your serious...our full time devs can't even get root for the Verizon variant..or unlock the bootloader..without a unlocked bl you can't flash anything even close to cm

bootloader questions

Can anyone tells me about the advantages and disadvantages of unlocking bootloader? because i saw some people said that they regret unlocking it. So whats the point of unlocking it? thanks for anyone who willing to explain.
I'm just an user but from what information i got so far (pardon me if anything is innacurate):
Unlocking the bootloader may open up a series of improvements that were not possible before without workarounds, like having a proper custom kernel, a proper Cyanogenmod version etc. Maybe even real multitouch or 16 million colors are possible, but this is a bit harder since someone will need to write new drivers, and it's highly unlikely this will happen but... who knows?
But to take advantage of unlocked bootloader you need to DEVELOP for it first, for now it's like having root enabled without any root app available for it. Also, bricking the x10 was impossible, you could always go to flashtools and reflash your firmware and fix it if you screw up, but with unlocked bootloader there's a chance of actually brick it for real, so you must be extra careful.
Some people are so eager to have the latest novelty that they'll do it first and think about it later. But it's a positive advancement for sure, i'll be lurking the dev threads to keep up with the news.

Need some help porting GPE ROM to our device.

Hello community!
I can't wait while someone porting a GPE Rom, so I want to get involved.
As far as I understood in order to build a rom I need:
The System Dump of GPE ROM
Build a new kernel from GPE kernel sources.
Write an Installation Script
Correct me if I am wrong.
Now, Dear Community I need your help.
Tell me what knowledge are required to get this work done.
There too many different tutorials for cooking roms, so I kinda messed up.
If it's not hard for you, can you give the links for some good information that I will need.:cyclops:
Get to my thread here and do it to the end. I feel like my XZU accidentally died for some days :crying:

[Q] Using Android 4.4 kernel source/boot.img to port Android Lollipop?

Hey guys,
I'm a soon to be developer for the ZTE ZMAX(we've been putting up a fight to get the thing rooted and whatnot) and I was just wondering how to use an Android 4.4 Kernel to boot Lollipop. I'm just asking because I definitely want to get Android Lollipop on the ZMAX ported if possible, I just don't know how to make old kernels boot new roms. The most I remember is something about people saying edit he ramdisk or something, but that was literally years ago, I might be out of touch lol. I don't expect a full tutorial or anything because I know that's super time consuming, but if you could point me in the right direction, maybe someone else's tutorial or the way you learned to do it, that would be great.
P.S. - Don't worry, I spent a day googling this with no success before I posted this!

In order to install any custom roms (CM12.1 included), you not only must have root, but you'll also need an unlocked bootloader (or a solution such as bump for the G3 to even allow the custom rom to boot), and a custom recovery as well. I don't want to be rude, but I've seen a lot of people screw up devices by trying to do far more than they understand - which based on you asking this question you're pretty clearly in that group. So, if you're wanting to install CM12.1 you can easily do so, but you need to do some reading in the general, android development, and original android development sections on the subjects of rooting, unlocking, installing TWRP (or another custom recovery if you prefer), etc. Make sure you also understand what build you're on (10B, 11C, 12B, etc. etc. etc.) and how that affects things (some methods work on some builds but not on others - for example if you're already on 5.1.1 you've unfortunately upgraded to the point where Verizon largely blocked downgrading. There has been one confirmed working method utilizing a .tot file and a specific .dll file that still works, however. You'll find that all by reading around in the various sections previously mentioned).
Then once you're done reading, read it all again....and then again after that Some solid time spent reading to make sure you understand everything will prevent you from turning you nice phone into an expensive paper weight and is more than worth it if you really want to get into the world of custom rom'ing. It's a lot of fun, but you need to understand what you're doing - at least at a high level. Once again, I'm not wanting to be rude, I just don't want to see you put yourself into a situation that far too many people before you have done

Will there ever be custom Rom for this device

It's been a while since bootloader unlock was successfully achieved on this device. Now that there is a full working twrp support, I want to know if there is any hope of getting some custom build? I read some people have already tried to install GSI roms and the performance is superior to stock. Please help to start some development for this device. I'm ready to donate to encourage who ever starts.
