How can I remove the app or at least keep it from starting and sitting in my notification bar?
really don't want to go through installing adb... rooting... clockworkmod .... just want to get rid of the app.
Kinda tired of extra crap being pushed into the updates wish that dell would just push a basic update and let us install the apps that we want.

There is no way to remove it other than by rooting.
However there are apps in the market to select apps that start up at login.
( Please ask Q in the 351 ROM thread)
You need to root your device first.
If you don't want to root but just want to get rid of the oovoo app off the bar until the next time you boot the phone go to the applications menu in the settings, find oovoo, delete everything and force stop it. It won't restart until the next boot.
Note that this is annoying, and rooting IS the best method for getting rid of it, so I guess I have to root my phone now.
Yes... wow I deleted tonnes of crap from the latest build. Including Stage. Nice and lean now
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I broke down and rooted the streak (351) and deleted ooVoo and have been working my way through some of the other apps I don't find a use for.
I followed instructions posted here, the simplest method seems to be
download superuser.zip and copy to the SD card
download fastboot.exe
download StreakMod recovery image
start the steak in fastboot mode, connect via USB to the pc
use fastboot.exe to flash the StreakMod recovery image to the streak.
restart the streak in the enhanced recovery mode and apply superuser.zip
install Super Manager from the market, enable root mode, and use it to remount the system folder as RW and delete /system/app/ooVoo
this is way more trouble than it should be.

On Friday, 4/22/2011, Dell sent an over-the-air update to the Dell Streak 5, with Android 2.2.2. Included in this update was an ooVoo Android client (version 1.0.8.314).
Unfortunately, this version was not the latest that ooVoo delivered to Dell. The latest version fixes several known bugs and user experience issues:
• ooVoo auto starts when the device powers on
• Reoccurring notifications
• Application running in the background after user exit
• Requiring forced close to stop app from running
ooVoo was first alerted to this issue several hours ago. Thank you for your additional details! We are working on an upgrade process to immediately fix this issue and provide you with the updated ooVoo client. You will find this version to be an excellent video chat experience. We are planning to automatically send this upgrade out to you, and also to the Android market, by end-of-day tomorrow.
Our goal, and the hallmark of our service, has been the quality of our video experience across Mac, PC, Android, iPhone and tablets. We take any event like this that impacts our user experience very seriously and we have our teams mobilized to provide a quick resolution.
We regret any inconvenience the update caused. If you are in need of additional support, please contact our support group at [email protected], or reply here to me.
Thank you,
Matthew de Ganon

@bala2usa:
The instructions on how to get rid of Oovoo are all over the forum. They require you to root your phone and delete a file. Search for the solution, rather than faking righteous indignation.

Hello.
I have XXJL2 December soft and my Movinand Android got Market Bug (i can't download apps). When I installed my port, Android Recovery was getting this messages:
http://i51.tinypic.com/2wnzk87.jpg
http://i55.tinypic.com/swv091.jpg
Maybe this bugs causes my Android Market bug?
Please reply what You guys think.
Cheers.
It always looked/looks like this, this is not the cause for Android Market bug. You have too less internal space, that's the problem.
I can't even download 1 app (~1mb) from market, so i dont think my problem is internal memory. Any other ideas?
Try to reinstall it?
First remove android with the recovery mode, then install it again?
How to open recovery mode?
BTW it's my second Android on this phone and nothing changes (both movinand).

You don't need to remove it before re-install.
The remove code is also in the mkext2images.sh file.
(First it removes data & cache files if android already exists, and recreates new ones)
I'm totaly pissed. I've update Android Market from 2.1.2 to 2.2.7 and problem is the same...
Did you try to delete google services framwork's datas in the settings / app menu ?
I had the same problem before doing that.

Jesus. If you're a newbie don't even dare to edit this script.
Rulistaff meant that the script will erase previous version, and then install the new one.
BTW. This file can be easily edited even by notepad, but please, don't mess with it as long as you're not absolutelly sure what you're doing.
Excellently, I wanna repair my Android Market and get solution for this problem (many others people have this issue).

Agreed. This seems too less storage space
You may try the filesystem that "mylove90" posted in the tutorial thread:

Um, kinda need to know what app is causing this problem... but i'm assuming it's a pirated app as the symptoms you mention are side effects of free apps hacked to get around from buying the ad free versions
It is due to invalid certificates in the apk you installed, if you are going to install an apk from an unknown source, it may pay to do a nandroid backup before you attempt the install, that will save you hours of reflashing/factory reset and then downloading and installing all your market apps, etc etc etc....

Hi everyone I'm having some issues when updating my phone to a new version of android, the phone I have is the Huawei Ascend P2 this morning there was an update available to install to I downloaded it and proceeded to install but during the installation process I got an error and the update was aborted, I tried this several time with the same result I get assert failed: apply_patch_check I know there have been threads about this before and I tried following some of the steps but it never resolved the issue. I have rooted my phone and deleted the browser from my phone using root app delete as it was slow and useless. I saw a guide on there that that required me to download the apk for the app causing the issue and to place it back into the system/app directory I did that but the issue still remains. I also saw another guide that said I have to edit something I tried to follow it but as I'm not so android savvy I didn't understand it and was unable to try it for myself. Any help would be much appreciated from you guys, I know some of you may be annoyed at me by posting a thread about an issue that has been solved before and for that I appologise I have tried some of the suggestions made but still unable to resolve this, any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
The error I get is assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Browser.apk
I have the same problem, an update was released for my phone but it fails the check because of the build.prob. you could try to backup your phone and the do a factory reset on the phone
Factory reset is not going to make the Browser app work.
When you moved it into the /system/app folder, do you remember if you changed the permissions? Since it is a system app, it needs to have different permissions than a regular app from the Play Store. It'd be simple to test - Does the app show up in the app drawer? Can you open it? If not, you either have the wrong version of the Browser.apk or you have not set the permissions to: RW-R-R.
For the build.prop issue - Are you rooted? Have you made any changes to it or installed any apps that would adjust it? This could be for anything from changing the wifi scan interval to memory management apps. If so, then you can grab an unchanged one and copy it to your phone, set permissions, and reboot. Have to make sure it is the right one, or it won't boot at all and you'd need to restore the entire phone. If you have CWM or TWRP then definitely nandroid before attempting anything like that. If you don't understand any of this, then best to get some help and do not attempt yourself.
I havê changed it yes.thats WY i need an unchanged one to compare it.and i AM Also rooted.

How did you change it? Most tools that edit the build.prop also create a backup. You might search for it with a root explorer. Typically, it'd be labeled like:
build.prop.bak
If that's the case, then rename the modded version and remove the .bak off the original, make sure the permissions are set still and reboot. Other than that, you'll just have to hope someone responds to your request in the P2 thread.
Cant i do a full phone repair? My old Sony had that feature from the PC. It completely erased everything and flash a stock ROM

I think the only way that they released to the public for updates is the update.app way. I'm sure they have a tool @ a service center. Dunno why they wouldn't put it out. But this is why you don't make changes to the system without backing it up. I take it you don't remember what you changed in the build.prop, just to undo it?
I have a rooted mediapad X1, deleted the installer and I can't install any app now. Please help!
Sounds like you may have to do a system reset. Don't do it yet as I hope more people will chime in with a better solution. Usually a system reset is a last ditch effort.
