My battery has lost its mind - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I'm not sure what is happening - my phone battery is all over the place.
It started about a week ago - I'd see my phone battery at let's say 51%. We go out - take perhaps 2-3 pics, and my battery is down to 2%. Mind you - I haven't used the phone until I took it out to take the pics. Data was turned on, but no GPS or Bluetooth, no phone calls, nothing. From 51% to 2% in a matter of about 3 minutes or so. Then it dies - I plug it into the charger and it shows 26%. It charges upto 28%, we get out of the car and I unplug and take the phone with me.
When we get back in the car, plug it back in and it shows 74%. Doesn't change from 74 for a good 15mins and then goes up to 76% by the time I get home about an hour later.
Restart the phone at the 76% and within the first 10minutes it's dropped to 38%.
This has been the pattern, give or take, the last week now. I have no idea what's going and why it's happening.
I have not installed any new apps in the last month, and the phone is not rooted (G925I).
I have also tried to let the phone charge to 100% once it's died and then within 3-4 hours, the battery is dead on minimal usage.
I am not using the charger that came with the phone - am on travel and have a smaller travel charger, but this has never been an issue with the same phone before.
Any and all help is very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

You should probably use the samsung warranty because that is not normal

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I used tap tap shortcut to launch camera and shot few pics, videos. And then after maybe an hour without using my phone (no data, no gps) i looked at my phone and it had 1% battery left then it shut off. When i got home i plugged charger and after 10 minutes battery was 65%.
As for my situation I guess it's related with camera. I didn't exit camera app, just locked my phone using power button while camera was open and this happened. It's the first time that i'm encountering this, so it's hard to tell. Btw i'm using xtrestolilte 2.4.

I got the same kind of issues. My battery is crazy, I let it with Wi-Fi only, no Sync, no download and it lose 7% in an hour.
Sometimes I may just be on twitter and it looses about 2% every 5 minutes which is CRAZY !
Also, last time it turned off because I had 0%. I tried rebooting and it was at 10% xD.
Samsung did a terrible job with the S6, I don't know what it is exactly but it's weird.

Battery stops charging

In the last week or so I've had an issue getting my phone to finish charging.....it charges to ~90%, then stops. If I hit the home button it finishes charging within 10 minutes. I've left my phone plugged in all night and woke up in the morning to find it charged to 90%, then in 2 minutes it says it's done.
I would normally just shrug it off and say well I guess it thought it wasn't done for some reason....however, I've noticed that if it doesn't say 100% when I unplug it, it's dead with about 3 hours of constant use, instead of my normal 5-6 hours of constant use.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I do really abuse my battery, given it's almost fully dead and charged 5 days a week....should I just buy a new one on ebay???
Rooted X10a flashed to global 2.1 well before these issues arose, and no new apps installed or changes made from the time my battery was acting fine until this problem arose.
The problem with X10 is when the battery is fully load the devices will cut the power- stop charging . So in the morning you got approximately that much.

Battery issues part 2

So the original battery in my phone.. well... sucked. When I pulled the phone off the charger it would jump down to 93% no matter how long it was on the charger etc. Any attempt to bump charge was thwarted in the fact that I cant charge the phone when its off (it automatically turns on and boots into CWM). Wiping the battery stats when the battery read 100% in the OS would still result in the above.
So I ordered that 1600mah battery from Seidio. Ran the charge out of it yesterday and charged it to full during the evening/night. Wake up this morning, pull the charger out of the phone, and BOOM 100% power. Not 93%...
So was it my old battery that was bad or was there something wrong with how the phone saw its power rating?
From what I've seen with the phone, it drops down to 90% or so before it starts charging again, but it won't ever have the display show a battery decrease while plugged in.

Right but I can watch the meter go all the way to 100%... pull the plug and it goes down to 93% within seconds.
funny thing phone did the same thing...took it off the charger this morn and it dropped down to 95
I'm at 99% after about 2.5hrs of mostly idle usage. I've been just rebooting the phone with it on the charger in the morning, give it about 15-20 minutes and usually it'll stick at 100

All you are doing is semi-bumb charging it, which is fine if you really must have that extra 1hour of battery, but be warned, doing it constantly will damage your battery over time. that is the reason the phone has built in charging/decharge in the first place.
The reality is if your phone is sitting idle, that 5% wont matter at all once your phone attunes to your battery, and if your using the phone so heavily that your going dead long before the day is done (after attunement) then the 5% still wont matter !
i was having the same issues - 90% right after unplugging. had to charge the phone 3 times in ONE day and i never even touched the phone the whole day except to check the battery percentage.
brought it into verizon, they gave me a new battery and now it lasts me the entire day. when i pull the plug out now, it drops steadily like a normal battery should. i tried bump charging before i brought it in and it didn't help at all
The same thing has been happening to my dads Thunderbolt.
He charged it overnight, took it to work and was losing about 1% per minute without touching the phone. The only time it was touched was about 1 timer per hour to take down the battery percentage for his log.
He took it to the verizon store and they told him he should not expect anything longer than 4 hours of battery life without touching the phone..what kind of BS is that?

I'm having the exact opposite problem with the batteries--just ordered two of the 1600 Seidios that delivered yesterday and even after running pretty much down, fully charging overnite with the T-bolt powered down, drops to 95% immediately. Conversely, the OEM battery would stay at 100% for hours if the phone was idle (screen off / receiving any emails and SMS). Go figger.
There is a post in the Android Central forums on the 1600 battery compared to stock. After testing, they found that the two perform almost identically. Basically, it isn't worth replacing unless you go with the big HTC extended battery. Although having a spare isn't a bad idea. If only that battery door wasn't so tough to pry off when you need to change it...
nexus s had the same problem its nothing big though

Most of us probably won't have the phones long enough to see any possible damage. Starting off at a full 100% is a lot better than immediately dropping to 95 or so after pulling it off charger. It's kind of like the gas gauge in my truck. Stays full a while but once it moves off of full you can watch it drop. lol

XE7 - Terrible battery with Mobiel Data, not bad on Wifi

Upgraded to KE7 yesterday using Odin.
Before going to bed around midnight, I had the phone connected to charger for a couple of hours, so the battery was fully charged at a hundred %.
Before turning in, I disconnected the charger, and disabled Wifi (generally battery life is worse on mobile data then Wifi, in my experience atleast). Around 8 am I woke and found the phone had switced itself off, completely drained. The phone that was fully charged, should've been on idle most of the time. I have 2 exchange account configured for Push, 1 F/book account, Whatsapp, Tango, NO live widgets. I think these are the main users of data/background processes. The phone had died in 8 hours, possibly less as I'm not sure exactly when it had switched off.
Put it back on charge again, left it charging for a few hours, around noon time, it was back up to a 100%, so, disconnected charger, now. 8 hours, 21 minutes later, the battery is sitting with 44% left, so, I would get circa 15 hours of usage on Wifi.
Under Wifi, 60% of the battery usage comes form Android OS...
Has anyone else noticed the same, iis there any fix for this... has Samsung fixed anything worthwhile in the jump from KE2 to KE7??
Riz
Hadn't quite figured what was causing pretty good battery in some circumstances and very poor in others. This would explain it and would be consistent with the stuff I was doing when I noticed the quickest drain.
Can't offer definitive proof, but certainly a very plausible working hypothesis. Solution anyone??

I think you should test it a few more times before concluding that it's due to mobile data vs wifi...?
I have just logged on to this forum to complain about the same issue! After KE7 battery has gone worse than before!!!!

Boogweed,
Normally yes.. but I've always noted worse battery performance on gprs/3g than WiFi, which is why I tested the phone mobile data at night.
Its a recurring problem.

Battery % updating sporadically

Hi guys,
I just got this phone but it's having a weird problem. The battery % seems to drop off in big jumps instead of gradually.
For instance, I also have an Xperia Play, if I run the LED as a flashlight, I can see over a few minutes the battery % goes down gradually.
This new phone, Samsung Galaxy Q, if I run the flashlight, nothing changes in a few minutes. But if I check back after locking the phone a few minutes later, it shows a battery drain.
Another example, before I went to bed, I had it charged to 100%. When I woke up 7 hours later, I checked and it was still at 100%. I checked after I got dressed a few minutes later, and it just dropped to 90%. During my trip to work about half way while playing music, half way to work, it was down to about 86%, kept checking, and no changes. When I got to work at my desk, the battery hit 77%.
My battery graph when I goto battery use is basically this, straight line....DROP, straight line...DROP, etc.
Has ANYONE ever had this problem?
I have seen this happening when the battery gets older.. is this a new device with a new battery?? If it is a new device, your battery might be damaged. you should better get it replaced.

Suddenly bad battery life...?

In the past, my Gear S has given me amazing battery life. I was getting (with light-to-average use) around 1.5-2 days per charge, on really light use I got 2.5-3 days!
Now I struggle to get 1 long day...
Here was my Gear's Day:
got up at 9:15, took it off the charger
at 9:30 my SGN4's alarm went off so the Gear notified me and alarmed, I shut it off after a few seconds.
Morning: checked the time a few times (probably 5, max 10)
Lunch: set the alarm on my gear, alarm went off, I turned it off after probably 5-10 seconds
Afternoon: checked the time another 5-10 times.
Tonight: couple skype notifications (8 total) and 1 eBay notification
2am: 20% battery
17 hours of light useage to almost completely drain the battery.
Previously I would use my gear to remote-control the music on my phone or my PC, surf the net on it some, use the flashlight (screen to max brightness for upto a couple minutes) and make long calls (upto 2 hours) and still ahve a good 40% or more at night, sometimes as much as 80% (as I said it lasted roughly 1.5-3 days)
Anyone have any ideas what's going on? This has been happening for a couple days now. Suggestions? (and yes, I have done a soft-reset)

Yeah, that sounds pretty bad. I had that problem once and a reset fixed it. If you already tried that then you might want to try a complete reset along with odin flashing the stock firmware.

Just curious, reading between the lines it looks like you leave it on charge all night. My experience with leaving things charging all night is not good, I know people can argue all day about the tech capabilities of modern day charging , but, no system is 100% perfect 100% of the time, and if anything is going to go a wry, it seems to bring it to a head and some times rather quickly, by all night charge or different/higher capacity chargers, and this watch doesn't take long to charge.
The software upgrade one time on my gs1, caused it to backwards drain immediately after full charge was reached, if it was still left on charge.
With your watch , you could try, draining it fully at the evening leaving it for an half hour, then charging it only till its full, with its own charger then pull it strait out. A couple of full drains/100% charge and disconnect cycles with its own charger might do it.
Forgive me if I've misread your words so nothing here would apply.
Ps I've been tempted to use my tab s rapid charge but the power of the watches unit is quite low so I'm stocking with its own power rating. Good luck
Wich watchface ?
Example : WatchStyler -> 5% by hour
Original Samsung Analog face with eco mode -> 2% by hour (and sometime 1.6%)
Keep an app in background, ex SportStopwatch -> 8% by hour....
Well, it works now. I'm still not sure what caused it though (especially since I'm careful to use the "close all apps" at night and whenever I think of it) However, I do have several somewhat-intensive programs loaded that could have been triggered like Zensou (sp?) Youtube player (though no video was loaded that I'm sure of) as well as Opera Mini. I also have Gear Remote (controls PC though a mated app on my phone) . Any could have triggered since they're all on my homescreen (using the Launcher Face in 8-button mode)
I've been charging using a cheep $10 eBay charger (bought two and one broke within a week so I opened it up and from the looks of it, it literally just turns traces direct from Power +/- and Data +/- on the USB to the Watch, absolutely nothing else in there. I've only used the charger that came with my gear (or my PC's data connection while loading up media)
Charging was overnight and sometimes longer, I'll try charging it less time next time I notice trouble again just in case (though so far not seen a difference in my experiences, usually both methods drop from 100% to ~97 percent in ~2 hours)
One other thing I noticed was I started getting a "SIM not Provisioned" error (apparently my H2O service expired and they didn't remind me) but my thoughts are that it would have no effect on the battery life since I'm in bluetooth mode 99% of the time
Thanks everyone!
