Restore App+Data - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
What is the best way to restore apps+ data on new ROM?
Titanium backup just does backup for app and not data.
Helium does not do backup for some importatnt apps which needs account
nandroid manager fails for all those apps which actually has data.

titanium backs up app data fine for me. i use it all the time to restore data on many apps.
i only use productivity apps and tools, maybe 20 different ones without issue. i dont play games, so i cant speak to how well it preserves that data.

titanium backup doesnt have optiom to load app data.
it just loads apk.
when i say data it is like app which uses login accounts... games im not much worried about.. but end up setting credentials in all the apps again and again...

i assume by login account, you mean similar to twitter, etc. i have a few of those, occasionally it doesnt do it the first time, but i restore again and it works. i forget all what i have, but twitter, xda, mediafire, polaris office, and more work fine for me usually.

hmm... interesting... will have titanium backup as well... lets see if that helps...
does it also load hotmail or any other email accounts that you would have configured?
anyone else has any such recommendation?
if i manually copy android data folder and then paste internal folders will it help?

i dont use any other mail but gmail, but i used to, and it worked fine. accounts are restored by a separate backup called "accounts".
its only a backup of whatever accounts show in your settings/accounts menu. i had hotmail and live accounts, and they both restored fine from there.

Never use titanium to restore system data. This can lead to huge issues including unstable device performance.

[Q] Application for Syncing SMSes with GMail.

I'd like to know if there are any efficient and dependable apps for Syncing (Both Backup And Restore) SMSes with GMail.
I tried SMS Backup+; it does backup all the SMSes to GMail pretty well, but when it comes to restoring it - does not restore all the SMSes.
I tried many other apps as well... All of 'em seem to have a problem with restoring the SMSes.
So, I'd like y'all to suggest some good apps that serves my purpose.
Thank You.
Try ' backup to gmail' works perfectly..

Call me an idiot...but I thought Google sync was obsolete with android, considering most of the devices are powered by Google! ....am I wrong....be nice !!
I will reiterate - Titanium Backup works great for restoring, in my case programs with data like Timeriffic.

You are wrong. Google sync is an android feature. It's one of the benefits to logging in with your gmail account when you setup a new ROM.

I've never been able to get Titanium Backup to backup and restore contacts...
You could just export your contacts to your SD card then import them back after you flash a new ROM. While in people, hit menu then export.

apps keep restoring

hey guys i just did a factory reset and all the apps restored themselves. ones that i didnt even have installed. is there a way to disable that. I unchecked the "back up my settings" in privacy settings but they still restored.
The apps are most likely stored from your market account.

Go to menu>settings>privacy and uncheck automatic restore (and your settings if you like, which will be your wifi points, wallpaper, etc.)

If you reset the phone and skip the first configuration and you do it after it won't restore apps, that restoring apps is been a feature since 2.2 froyo
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

Change ROM's without losing everything?

Sorry to bother everyone, but I've been searching the forums for a while now, and I've used some of the really good ROM's that have been designed, however I recently decided to go back to a Stock ROM.
Yet again, like many people I'm sure, I have become bored of the stock ROM and fancy a change.
I've decided to go for the ICS ROM but reached a dilemma.
I don't want to lose everything such as contacts, messages, etc.
I use titanium backup pro, but even that doesn't save them.
I was wondering if there was a way to do this?
Thanks in advance and sorry for babbling on!

Rom as ICS has not yet been released
KIES backups contacts etc .
jje
Okay that confirms I am confused between ROM and Kernal..I think.
& Oh yeah! I didn't even think of using Kies to backup my contacts!
Thanks!

Rom - custom software build for your phone.
Kernel - base software backbone for your phone.
And in terms of flashing a ROM with data still intact, its possible, but it depends on wether or not the ROM wipes your data. Most likely, it will. Now a kernel is easier. As long as it works with the corresponding ROM, you shouldn't have any trouble.

You can do anything with Titanium Backing up to root. Previously with Odin rooting firmware flash
Move contacts to sim card and also remove it when wiping
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Also, try these two from the market:
- SMS Backup & Restore
- Call Logs Backup & Restore
Worked great for me.

I store all my contacts on my google account, so everytime I switch roms/handsets, they just sync down.
With sms, you can either backup using an sms backup app, or mybackup pro does it. Neither require root.
Or...what I do is have backup to gmail installed, which auto backs up all my sms and mms to relevant sms and mms folders on my gmail account. That way I have them always, I do also use mybackup pro just so they are also in my messages app.
1. Sync contacts to Skype/Googlemail(google-backup)
2. Sync Messages to Titanium backup/pro
3. Anything Else won't get lost as you can sync things back. like Email and Calendars.
If you keep Notes, copy and paste things to Google Docs, to get them backed up.
Your Apps will get wiped but will install back with your Gmail.
Rest is the application Data, that will be Wiped.. After all you want a new start...
Just backup your apps with Titanium backup and restore after the flash
My contacts are synchronized with gmail and on simcard
Calender is synched with gmail
Thanks a lot guys. This has really helped. I think I'll back my contacts up to G-mail as that's my main concern. Messages being backed up would be helpful, but not necessary.

Google Talk refuses to login

I'm not sure what the issue is, but I'm running the Rejuvenated ROM. Fresh install. Restored all apps from Titanium Backup (all backups were from previous Rejuvenated setup - same version and everything). Whenever I open up Talk, it shows all accounts signed out. And when I click on an account, it takes me to the buddy list, but only shows my email address and doesn't sign in. No errors. All other apps work that are tied to my gmail account - the market, email, etc.
I even tried doing a restore from Titanium to a clean install, while skipping everything that has to do with accounts. Still nothing.
Any ideas on how to get this working properly?

I apparently can't post in the development forum, but you mentioned that you were having issues with google talk and gmail. I have had the same issue when flashing roms and then using titanium backup to restore my stuff. What fixed it for me is deleting the google account off the phone and deleting the data out of the google services framework app. Let me know if that works for you.

Had this issue in the past. I stay away from backing up the google apps since during install they ask for permissions.
Agreed, never backup gapps because that will come with issues if its own.
Try going in to recovery and fixing permissions, see if that helps.
