Medication reminder app not working, help please - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I gave my parent a Honor 7, and I installed a medication reminder app in the phone to help to remind my parent when to take his medication.
I first installed an app called "Medisafe Meds & Pill Reminder" from Google Play. After setup everything and test it on the spot by creating a dummy medication and set the time about 5 minutes later. I then locked the phone and watch. The app reminder does appears and everything seems normal so I let my parent start to use it on daily basic.
However just after a few days, the app fails to give any kind of reminder again. I tried uninstall and re-install. During on-the-spot testing it works fine but in real usage it just does not give any reminder at all.
So I have given up and tried another app called "My PillBox(Meds&Pill Reminder)" from Google Play. I did the same setup and testing like the previous one. Unfortunately the same issue occurs for this app as well, in real usage it fails to give any sort of reminder.
Out of my curiosity I try to install the "My PillBox(Meds&Pill Reminder)" in my own Sony Xperia Z3 and it working perfectly fine in my phone. I do a few trials and errors with the Honor 7 to determine what actually went wrong. I find out that, if I was to clear the app from the background, then the app will never give any reminder. If I was to keep it in the background, it will work fine.
That is quite annoying because in my Xperia Z3 this tedious procedure is not needed. The app works in my Xperia Z3 regardless of whether I let the app running in the background or not.
I then install "Autostart and StaY!" in the Honor 7, so that upon boot up the medication reminder app will automatically launch. However since my parent has the habit of clearing the background app, so as soon as he did this action the medication reminder app fails to give reminder again.
I need help on how to make this medication app work normally in my parent's Honor 7. Work normally as in the case of my Xperia Z3, where it works regardless of it is in the background or not.
Can someone offer any idea on what can I do to solve this issue? I am not sure whether this is an app bug or the Honor 7 OS bug.
And can other Honor 7 user try this medication app on your own phone and see whether it works normally in your Honor 7?
Remark: My Honor 7 is not rooted. I do not intend to neither because my parent is not a gadget geek.

Maybe you should add the application to the list of protected apps? You can find this feature in settings.

Hi there.
Yes I already make sure I did that. But it does not help. My battery management is set to Performance also, so everything should be running at full mode.

My cousin encountered the same problem with What'sApp. The problem was that he had the habit of killing all background apps manually every once in a while. Even if the app is protected, killing it manually leads to nog receive any notification. After some tests, I noticed that Whatsapp was the only app with this behaviour. Killing Facebook for example didn't change anything and notifications appeard anyway.
I don't think that this is your problem bu I discovered that this is due to bad coding from the developpers. Just try another medication app should do the trick.

Thanks for sharing the info.
I am currently facing another greater problem, my honor 7 suddenly can't be charged while it is turned on. I am going to open another thread regarding that to ask for help.
As for this medication reminder app thing, after I sort out that charging problem I think I will give it another try on other medication reminder app. Hopefully I will bump into one that works with Honor 7.

There are some applications, that demands your phone to be rooted. But i think here a normal reinstall to the application can work. If not, just reset the phone. If you don't want to, look for an alternate application.

This is very serious, you need a proper Mobile App
Friend, this is very serious you need a good pill reminder app for your parent.
I suggest you approach a Mobile App Development Company with a very strong portfolio for your requirement. Space-O Technologies is one such company you should look out for. Do fill their contact form for a free consultation.
I wish you all the best.

looking for app install/uninstall/update history tracker

I'm looking for something that will record the history of apps I've installed and uninstalled. The AppBrain timeline used to do this, but that seems to have disappeared.
I don't want something that tracks my app usage (like Aptrax or Frequency) such that it is always running somehow, I just want it to note when something was installed or uninstalled (and, for bonus points, updated).
There are two other apps in the Play store that seem to offer this. App Usage tracks installs/uninstalls, but also tracks usage. App Install Tracker seems to do what I want... but the reviews aren't so good.
So I'm looking for a recommendation.
Hey buddy, did you finally manage to find an app that does this efficiently? I am on the exact same lookout :-S

I've been using App Install Tracker that I linked above. It seems to record all the installs and uninstalls, but catches some updates (about 1 out of 10). I installed it on a new tablet and forgot to raise the silly default of 100 history entries to the max (2000), so I ended up losing history. It works well enough, but I'd switch to something better if I found it.

Man - it's such a basic need to track install/uninstall history. Especially when I have to troubleshoot a bug and I don't remember what apps I need to reinstall after uninstalling a whole bunch. I guess I am stuck with your solution as much as I would have preferred something more robust.
Any news on your side bro? I haven't yet found a decent app for this yet.

Push Notifications not working when app is closed

I have added Whatsapp and Hike to the protected app list, but still when the app is closed it stops getting push notifications.
Is this really an bug? If yes, Do we have a workaround for this?
IN Honor 7, it was working fine.. But 5X is having some problem it seems.

its strange i dnt have any.
I'm having the problem of late notifications... If i recieve a notif on fb, the notif will appear on panel about 9 min later

The problem seems to be with the device correctly registering with Google's push notification servers. I tested the device and it failed a simple push notification test sequence, which my Moto E passes every time.
This is very disappointing, because both my wife and I purchased the 5X and it isn't working properly for either of us.
I think I'm going to flash CyanogenMod and see if it's better.
Update: replaced stock ROM with CM13, so far so good!
Hi everybody,
I also am having problems not getting push notifications on my Honor 5X from my Arlo (home security camera) app. When the camera senses motion, it sends a notification and records a video. My phone does not receive a push notification, however, when I open the Arlo app I am able to see the video that was recorded.
The funny thing is, I can get immediate push notifications from my Arlo camera on my Motorola Moto X (1st generation) phone.
I have given my Arlo app every notification permission that there is.
I have spent weeks exchanging emails with Arlo tech support, and they have had me try every possible solution in the book, but nothing has worked. It's very discouraging.
UPDATE: I just installed an app called Push Notifications Fixer, and when I walked in front of my Arlo camera, I got an immediate notification! Amazing!
Does Push Notifications Fixer works for anyone in EMUI ?
Guys!
I found a quick solution for anyone who is missing notifications when the app is closed by taskmanager or force close.
It's something I just tested multiple times and this solution seems to be the only working one.
I missed a lot of notifications for WhatsApp and Facebook since i closed them on the task manager screen.
The app and the service are being closed both when you do that.
However i found out that when making in a widget keeps the push service keeps working, even after closing the app manually.
I use nova launcher so i created widgets and resized them to the smallest possible.
You can now close these apps without any problems and keeping your notifications alive.
Let me know if it also works for you guys.
Should work with any app that can create widgets as well.

Had the same issue (not getting notifications from the Arlo app), tried the Push Notification Fixer app, but that didn't solve the problem. Found this page explaining the issue and how to resolve it and that worked beautifully. All good now. Wanted to share to help out others. Good luck!

Is there spyware on my device?

For the longest time, possibly since buying the phone, I felt my phone has ghost vibrations. Eventually I decided to install a notification logger. I then realized that for some reason Download Manager is downloading an image, and it's always the same image. I don't know where it's downloading it from, but I copied the image filename and pasted it into my Google photos and turns out it's a photo of my ID.
Now I'm really scared that there may be spyware on my device.. Is there a way to find out who is calling Download Manager or from where the file is being downloaded?
Have you try to fully reset your phone?
Sh!t, I would factory default in a heartbeat and carefully look at the apps I reinstall, especially those with "access to photos" permissions. This is serious.
That being said, it's an Android phone by Huawei, so yes, you are spied on both by Google and Huawei
I think US politics against Huawei and general fear mongering is getting out of control. If people are that paranoid about big-brother then stop using tech, coincidentally the only proven and factual case of spying and massive over-reach has been the US government, not China.

Google, Huawei, Samsung, wat ever brand, know you better than ur parent, especially Google, it know where u work, where u eat, where u sleep, what road u took ... you name it.
These make me think of movie "Terminator", may be one day Google is Skynet
.
I got ghost vibrations as well it starten when 8 downloaded an GIF
Where do you think Huawei got a copy of your ID from? Do you think your phone went into your wallet while you were asleep and stole it? And after stealing your ID why would Huawei want to download it onto your phone?
The spyware you suggest sounds both increadibly sophisticated and amazingly stupid.
If you actually are seeing anything remotely similar to what you describe it is likely activity by a third party app you installed and that you gave a copy of your ID to.
Huawei Wallet is the only Huawei App I know of that might store a copy of your ID but you would actually need to provide a copy of it first.
I don't think is spyware either. In my case I have OneDrive syncing some files (mostly personal stuff), so what I see in a notification logger is exactly as you describe: Download Manager downloading randomly downloading some files to your device.
There are 'phantom notifications' happening on a regular basis. They disappear before your very eyes. I think they are all Huawei subsystem actions that somehow trigger a notification but not fully... What the OP is claiming is pretty insane, though. Can you clarify? At some point in time, you had to have used your phone to take a picture of your ID - right? I mean, the camera didn't do that by itself. Was it a banking app? Was it trying to buy bitcoins? Was it applying for your porn permit in the U.K.? Was it your dissasociative schizoid fragmented personality betraying you again? Are you the anomaly? Do you live at the CERN facility? Did Dolly wear braces in Moonraker in the timeline where your picture ID was taken?
Okay, I've made some progress with trying to figure out the culprit. It's somehow related to Google Photos. I never downloaded any photos except that one (the photo was taken on a different device and I used the download option to keep it on my device for a banking app).
I uninstalled the banking app and disabled GPhotos (can't uninstall it), the issue persisted. I was worried because it was my ID and I assigned malicious intent to some unknown third party. I've re-enabled GPhotos.
Now, I've downloaded two more photos, this time just food pics. And now I get three times the ghost notifications. One for the ID, and two for the food.
Good news - it's likely not malicious intent.
Bad news - it's somehow related to Google Photos and/or Huawei. It's a bug that still occurred after I disabled both the download manager (it enabled itself) and Google Photos (it didn't enable itself, and even with clean data the issue occurred).

I too am certain my mate 20 Pro is spying on me, it randomly says call ended even when iv not been in a call. I don't have any control of weather 'hey google' is active when the screen is dark, the option is greyed out in the off position but my phone regularly lights up from dark into Google assistant when nobody in the room said ’hey google’ or anything like it. I also cannot delete or retrain my voice pattern. Both options that should normally be buttons are no longer clickable links.

Then there's Google assistant listening to what we do, which they probably analysis just like Alexa

App won't respond

Hi, everyone!
I'm using a Huawei P30 and recently got a sprinkler controller as a present. Later I found articles and reviews that said this device is compatible with Alexa, Apple HomeKit, iOS, Android, etc. So I downloaded this Rachio app. For some reason, this app and some others stopped responding. I tried to restart my phone and reinstall these apps, but it doesn't help. Maybe someone had the same or similar problem and already found a solution?
Thanks in advance!

Nora it's possible to get this app running correctly if you had root...
([emoji88]Omni Rom[emoji88])
@NoraHensl
Main reason for an ANR ( read: Application Not Responding ) is device's low RAM and/or GHz.
FYI:
An ANR will occur if you are running a process on the UI thread which takes a long time, usually around 5 seconds. During this time the GUI (Graphical User Interface) will lock up which will result in anything the user presses will not be actioned. After the 5 seconds approx has occurred, if the thread still hasn't recovered then an ANR dialogue box is shown informing the user that the application is not responding and will give the user the choice to either wait, in the hope that the app will eventually recover, or to force close the app.
The easiest way to fix an app that keeps crashing on your Android smartphone is to simply force stop it and open it again. To do this, go to Settings -> Apps and select the app that keeps crashing. Tap on the app's name and then tap on 'Force stop'. Now try opening the app again and see if it works well.

Is an app killer what I need?

There are at least two apps (that I've noticed) which seem to act strange when I run them again after running them once. The strangeness vanishes if I go into recent apps, swipe the app away, then run it from scratch. I get annoyed at having to do this frequently. Would one of the many background app killers out there achieve the same effect automatically without me having to swipe the app away? Any recommendation for a killer I can restrict to just certain apps? Is there any setting on the s21 to say "never cache this app in memory"?

No offense but it sounds like the issue is with the apps and using an app killer to autokill the app is nothing more than band aid. The app killer would be yet another service that will run in the background using up your resources. I think you would be better off contacting the developer and see if they will allow you to submit logcats so they can fix the issue(s). This would help you and potentially help others as well. I would also see if there any alternative apps that can do the same thing.

The most irritating one is the Chase mobile app. Attempting to contact the "developer" gets me chase customer service who wants to help me reinstall the app. Pleas to forward my mail to the actual developer are met with total incomprehension .
Okay. We might try going deeper here. Did the problem always exist or did it start randomly? If each one was working fine at one point it could be an update from the developer broke Apps. Did it start after an update to the app or the phone Rom?
Did you customize and/or disable the os or rom baked services/apps?
How long have you had the phone? Did you upgrade from android 11 to 12 and do a factory reset? Just some questions to see if there might be other root causes.
Everything is stock with all system updates from samsung applied. I'm pretty sure it started after an app update. The chase app insists "You are not connected to a network", but since I was just on chrome looking at web pages, that seems unlikely. It acts more like the app doesn't clean up everything correctly on exit, then if android keeps it around in memory, it has trash in uninitialized variables when starting back up again. I've gotten pretty good about swiping it away from recent apps, so even if they fix the bug someday, I'll probably keep doing it from reflex .
Have you looked at recent comments for the app on the play store? Are there similar complaints that started around a certain time? That would be a definitive indicator if it was an update issue.
I commented about it and since then 15 people have found my review helpful, so maybe that means they have the same problem.

Yeah...that is unfortunate. It looks like you may have to wait on the company and developer to fix it.
