Hi Guys,
I've just flashed EE firmware on my BTU S6 Edge and the network modes now shown are 4G/3G/2G instead of LTE/WCDMA/GSM. I've got double speed package from EE and was previously getting 4G+ sign but not anymore. Please can someone help in this matter.
Thanks
Panesaam
download a speed test app from the Play store and check the actual connection speed. It seems some firmware variants will show LTE and some will show 4G.
I'm on a 925F unbranded on ATT and get the 4G symbol yet I have LTE speeds, as confirmed by a couple of speed test apps.
Hi Devis,
Thanks for reply. I've already checked it and I have lost 50mbs from my download speed on speed test. Normally I would get around 100 mbs download speed with 4G+ but now I getting approx half of it. I have flashed original BTU firmware back and my speeds went up and now shows LTE/WDCA/GSM as Network modes.
You know, here in the good old US of A we're lucky to break the 40 barrier and just yesterday I upgraded my internet at home to a 100mb connection. What I'm saying, with these phones, there is probbably nothing that you can do with 100 that you can't do with the 50. But, yea good find.
We'll that's true. More speed ain't gonna make difference. Instead data will be consumed a lot quicker for no reason. I try not to panic as long as it works. Thanks a ton and A very Happy New Year:good:

I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Do you mean HSDPA?
(downlink - tower to phone)
or
HSUPA
(uplink - phone to tower)?
Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

well as u see i am new at this. i read a lot from these forums since i love the htc product. but i don't know how to tether or anything like that. i just installed the radio i just displayed hoping to be able to get 3g speed. but it stays at edge at all times.

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

i looked into the hdw side of things ... it looked like it is compatible according to the specs. i did notice there r some firmware update on htc that was released this yr. i'll have to look into that.

i thought of that too. that this rom my not have the 3g icon, but from time to time it will show "G" and then back to "E". and as far as i know ... i shough have close to 300kbs or more for downspeed. and i right?
thanks everyone for all of ur input. i'll look into all of it and get back to u. thx again.
If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.
I've always had good luck with my radio [see signature]
Hi All,
I have the Speedtest.net app on my SGSII and have run some speed tests and am getting some results that I find weird.
Yesterday I tested my network speed from my home (small basement suite apartment if that matters) and the results were as follows...
Network HSPA Download -0kbps, Upload -0kbps, Ping -1ms at 8:12PM
Network HSPA Download 247kbps, Upload 15kbps, Ping 1172ms at 8:14PM
Network WiFi Download 11401kbps, Upload 505kbps, Ping 47ms at 8:26PM
Today
Network UMTS Download 2269kbps, Upload 664kbps, Ping 185ms at 10:07am
I know the WiFi ones will be different but can anyone tell me why my HSPA ones from yesterday are SO LOW and if my UMTS (3G) one from today is atleast in the normal range?
I am confused...
Thanks,
One test isn't enough. Maybe the network/cell tower was saturated or had a problem, preventing full speed in your HSPA test.
The 0/0/-1 are Speedtest's bug.

Thank You for the info. Can you explain to me... Is UMTS 3G and HSPA is 3G+? Is that correct?
Today at work I ran a couple more tests and my UMTS Results were fluctuating as well... (I diddnt have any tests that came back HSPA today so far) Anywhere between 863kbps download to 1390kbps download and 301kbps upload to 748kbps upload... Are these weird as well? How can I get a true test of my 3G and HSPA speeds?
they are just slower speeds, the network seems to be under heavy capacity in your area. the only way to get a better idea is to test in the middle of the night, at 1 am, when the network is nearly empty and wide open.

Thank You as well for your response. Can you tell me... IF my device was folr some reason running in 2G or "Edge" mode it would show that as the "Network Type" in the test like it says UMTS or HSPA? Is that correct?
Yes if your phone switches to edge you will see an E at the top of the screen and the setting menu will say edge. You were definitely on HSDPA though, just a slow network, cause edge is limited to 236 kbps. Your speeds were higher than that except for the one that goofed completely.
i noticed 2 days ago my i777 showed h for a sec then 3g and was gone i tryed to google for this and found no info
this morning i wake up power on my cell and sit it on the table next to me while online and notice again its showing 3g h then 3g holding the 3g i browse and it goes from h back to 3g i did a speed test to verify this and i get 4.1mb on 1st try
so is tmobile now rolling out for a new band cause i thought tmobile could not get anything bu e edge for our i777
if any one needs info let me know
however i have noticed that if i pick up the phone is almost always goes back to e edge seems like it must have a full bars of e edge before it snaps over to h then 3g so i really want to know whats going on and if so how to maybe keep the 3g and h cause it really seems sensative when i pick it up and hold it i get almost full e edge and the 3g h goes away
im using aokp
set rom controls to hspda andhuspa or whatever it is
sitting on 3g for about 15 mins now pretty excited ths would have been good a week ago while trying to download google drive and do some mapquesting that got me lost for 40 mins due to slow internet while driving
i was shocked so i took a video and a pic of the phone
i know this may be due just to the area i live in but still this is cool as far as i knew only the galaxy note could have its modem changed software to get on tmobile 3g i thought us i777 users were destined to get e forever i know tmobile was going to get a band back in oct last year and all this junk with att and then somthing about rogers getting it idk whats what i know tmobile is upgrading the whole reason they changed the modem in thier t989 and 3 weeks ago my net cut off totally for the day had major issues and tmobile was no help so i wonder if this is a indicator that before long we all will have 3g ? on i777 if so yet another reason to get my i777

lol thanks alot tmobile the i777 modem and antenna are not weak are they
aokp
siyah kernal
nothing modded from stock or changed tho not using dualboot either

can u suggest a better more battery draining modem to try i do not care of batt life if it will be good enough to stop losing the 3g h when i pick it up off the table or direct me to the post with the locator i cant find it again was a link to g maps with search for areas and comments on best modems for areas
OR DO YOU THINK MAYBE IT IS WHAT IT IS I NEED TO WAIT FOR BETTER SERVICE BEFORE THINKING I CAN MAKE IT BETTER ON MY SIDE MAYBE ITS JUST TMOBILES SIDE AND THEY SOMHOW NEED TO REFINE THIER CATCHING OR WHATEVER YOU WOULD CALL IT
Usually cell carriers don't light up a new service on every tower in an area simultaneously while they're still rolling it out. That's reserved for the big public unveiling. Eventually the gaps will fill in. It's also possible your local geography is making 1900mhz reception worse than 850/900, but again, it's more likely it's not on every tower around you yet.

That's what HSPA is (idles in UMTS, aka 3G).
As stated, coverage is spotty because it's just being rolled out. It will become stronger over time. I suppose you could find a way to lock it to Edge if you want (easily accomplished on AOSP roms).
As for modems, it'll drain less if locked to Edge since your HSPA signal strength isn't good. You'll have to look at the map in the modem thread for suggestions. It's mostly different for everyone.
I've Samsung S3 GT i9300 SHV E210 L and when I check my APN settings it does have LTE option under Bearer but currently my Telecom provider doesn't support 4g. However they do provide 3G with a great speed. I hv used it on other mobiles and it works great . It's just this phone gets only G when selected GSM/WCDMA automode. When I manually select WCDMA only it gets 3G but very slow speed and it drops out very frequently. The maximum speed which I have received is around 1 mbps only.*Please provide me with a resolution how I can I get good bandwith/speed. ?

Change modem,is the only thing you can do...control in samfirmware site what's your last stock firmware supported by your device,in you country with your provider. There you can see the base band, use that for looking for the right modem and try to flash it. The wrong modem can drain your battery or could kill your network
S3 Network issue! Slow internet!
And this phone is a Korean S3 with 2GB RAM and 32 GB ROM and it always warns me about data usage in abroad. I use this phone in India.
It gives me error like registration failed contact customer care. And ya my battery drains very quickly. If you can please give step by step process to fix this issue it will be great.. Much appreciated.
thanks.
Give me time start from samfirmware!

I'm sorry but we have 2 problems:
first,your device can't be a GT.I9300 because has 2GB ram...
second, on samfirmware KOREA doesn't exist,so i can't quickly know what base band is used in your country :/
Haven't you the stock rom??
Hi. I just got the Z2 last week and I need some help with my LTE set up.
1. I am using my nano Sim from my HTC One M8.
2. I downloaded the att file for internet settings
3. Network Mode - LTE (Preferred)
3. The icon reads LTE
Looks like everything is working, but when I run a speed test I get terrible results. Like 0.5 mbps bad.
I have tested in various locations, but always get bad results.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

LTE isn't all it's cracked up to be .. I got an LTE sim to try recently in a large city. It turned out that H+ was actually faster , LTE was 1-2Mb, H+ was 7-8Mb , however in a less populated area I got LTE upto 20Mb. It's still down to the network in the end.
Thanks for the reply defsix. I tested on h+ also. Same results at 0.5 Mbps.
I know it comes down to coverage, but LTE is good in my area. I tested my wife's iPhone and got about 5 mbps at the same time I got 0.5.
That's why I'm not sure if I don't have something set up right.
So if I am getting the LTE icon is it just bad luck?

I'm assuming you have the correct settings on your phone ? Network settings etc.
Did you call AT&T to register the IMEI of the phone to provision it?
I've heard from several folks on att that you have to call them to set it up.
Drop by an AT&T store to see if you can get a new SIM card. Yours maybe outdated such that the newer one which could have newer information to support other towers.
I'm actually to change my SIM card up because one area I usually go to is a bit weak and they did look at my SIM card info and told me mine was an older one and try getting a new one.
If you did all the updates on the phone it shouldn't even show LTE but 4G instead. From my understanding one of the updates broke the LTE symbol so it doesnt show anymore. Mine never says it and I live in an LTE Att area.
