Hi all,
i am trying to install TWRP recovery to my Sony Xperia Z2 but ADB only tells me after fastboot "waiting for device...". I am very sure that this is because i don't have a stock recovery installed. My Nexus 5 has stock recovery, i tried to find a stock recovery for Xperia Z2 but there seems to not be any stock recovery for it. Could somebody tell me how to install stock recovery so i can install TWRP?
Thanks,
Chris

There is no stock recovery. You either haven't installed the drivers or can't access them. Ensure the drivers are installed. If they are, try sudo or run as administrator.

Hey Guys,
i can't get my phone to boot into cwm.
BL is unlocked, Phone is rooted.
Installed CWM with Recoveryx - can't boot into recovery (via Boot Manager)
Installed CWM with X-Parts - can't boot into recovery (via X-Parts)
I can't boot via Volume Down button.
Whats wrong? It's driving me crazy.
Try using adb. Download the sdk or just adb and using command prompt go to the location where
adb is and use this command-
adb reboot recovery

Q. Is this the touch version of Clockworkmod Recovery?
A. No, this is the non-touch version of Clockworkmod Recovery once any bugs have been worked out and the non-touch has been properly tested I will look into compiling a touch version unless an official version of Clockworkmod for the Nexus 5 is released.

You have to boot into fastboot mode to install this custom recovery on your device. Do you have fastboot and ADB setup on your computer and the device drivers installer for the Nexus 5? If you don't have fastboot and ADB setup on your computer I would recommend taking a look at this simple fastboot and ADB installer . Once you have fastboot and adb setup, and the device drivers installed follow the following steps:
1. Download this file.
2. Move the downloaded recovery file into the directory where you have ADB and Fastboot setup on your computer.
3. Navigate into the directory where you have ADB and Fastboot setup on your computer and run the following commands from the command prompt on your computer:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery hammerhead-cwm-6.0.4.4-unofficial.img
After following this procedure you will then have Clockworkmod Recovery installed on your device. Let me know if you still have questions.
And make sure you
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
first!
I installed the recovery via fastboot.
When i try to boot into recovery i'm stuck at google screen.
I'm able to reboot the device.
Whats wrong?

Are you too able to access recovery all? But you can reboot the device and still get into the bootloader for fastboot mode correct?

I can get into the bootloader, and flash the recovery but if i restart into recovery it sits at the Google screen. I then have to press the power button and restart the whole phone, Ive also tried booting into recovery using quickboot but again it sits at the Google screen.

Interesting I'm curious to know if the TWRP build I posted does the same any hints from dmesg or last_kmsg would also be beneficial, is it possible for you use Android Debug Monitor (DDMS and Monitor in Android SDK tools folder if you have the sdk installed) and upload a log?
Okay so here is propably another noob question: On my HTC Sensation I had 4ext as recovery. What are the differences between this and 4ext or TWRP? Is there a thread somewhere I couldn't find!?
My z ultra has no recovery and it bootlooped.

Flash a stock ftf with flashtool and reroot install recovery I had to do it today. If you're on windows 8+ you have to disable driver signature enforcement.

Flashtool has the option or through adb you use command boot boot img instead of flash boot img. It boots it only one time then reverts back to original one on next reboot.
I try to install .img file in recovery, but after install this, my phone shutdown in software brick....

Don't use install img option on twrp it may not work always
Instead of that you can flash recovery using fastboot with "fastboot flash recovery (the name of recovery).img) command

I solved it, I first must install Repack boot with "fastboot flash boot ...img"
After install recovery with "Fastboot flash recovery ...img"
My error Because I should read this first...

Note that the Z2, like most other Sony devices does not have a proper bootable recovery. As such you have to install a kernel that includes a recovery with it. For a time I will try to continue to supply updated stock kernels repacked with TWRP in them. If you are running one of my kernels or have a custom ROM like OmniROM installed, you can install TWRP in the FOTAKernel partition to stay on the latest version of TWRP.

To install a stock kernel, boot the device into fastboot mode and then from your computer: fastboot flash boot path/to/filename.img

However is it true? With latest updates there was bootloader update which brings (or at least should as Sony said) /recovery partition (or more gives access to it, coz partitions was probably always there).
However how it exactly works? I always thought that onee flashed update with newest bootloader will leave new bootloader and this partition forever. But I got Z2 with .291, downgraded it to 4.4.2 for Root and TA backup and than tried to flash recovery to recovery partition, but got error: FAILED (data transfer failure (Unknown error)).
Does it mean that only on latest update(s) there is possibility to use this partition?
Never tried it on my ZU before. I just started form latest 5.1.1.
EDIT: OK, so what i assumed was right - on 6.0.1 I was able to flash the recovery to it's partition.
Now the problem is with booting into it. How? With Power + Vol- it still stright to boots to OS...
EDIT2: adb reboot recovery boots to different bootloader screen (Power+Vol- gives SONY screen and adb gives SONY + XPERIA screen.
However it still boots strght to Android...
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I have 23.5.A.1.291 + unlocked bootloader + TWRP 3.0.2-0 (official) flashed with fastboot flash recovery img.
I'm 100% sure that SONY screen (w/o XPERIA) is the right one as I have identical one on my ZU when booting into bootloader-recovery mode. But why here it don't boot TWRP, but OS?
HELPPPP
Pleaseeeee tell me how did you flash twrp 3.0? I have tried almost everything it now seems impossible for me... Pleaseee helpp me T_T ... Thankk youuu
Hi guys
Can't install any OS (tried via ADB commands and flashing custom roms via TWRP).
Whatever I try, it just boots to TWRP.
ADB commands do work because I managed to install TWRP 3.0 and 3.1 for the Moto Z Griffin
Bootloader is unlocked
This device was working fine on Stock Noughat (installed via ADB) and AOKP (installed via TWRP).
Problems began when the camera "failed to start" and in my frustration, I wiped everything via TWRP including system, so now I have no OS.
Not sure why I can't get anything to install.
reflash stock firmware
Any idea what method I should use?

Fastboot or RDSlite. Flashing rom only won't help.
Tried this but it didn't work... Just boots to TWRP again.
What am a doing wrong?

There's no stock recovery flash command on the list in the link. If you've got full firmware you need to execute this command as well:
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Thank you so much, that fixed this problem.
