CM12.1 GPS problem - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Xperia Z Ultra, C6833, CM12.1 (2015 dec 30). Sympthoms: when i start any navigation app, everything is going good, it can see satellites, fix is fast enough, etc; but after few kilometers it loses fix and app cant see satellites, until i reboot the smartphone. A problem exists already 5-6 months (everything was okay in may-june 2015) and I patiently waited for solution from the developers, but there is still nothing. I tried a lot of ways to fix it, but nothing helps. Rom, gapps and recovery - everything was reinstalled a thousand times in a different ways. Unsuccessfully. I tried to edit gps.conf. Unsuccessfully. Everything is damn fantastic with GPS in a stock Sony rom.
Here is a logcat. Satellites were lost at 20:25

Perhaps go back to the ROM you were using when GPS did work. I am using cm 12.1 20151230 GPS works very well for me. Actually, the GPS on the big screen could be the best bit about the phone.

TWRP v2.8.5.0 i think I installed TWRP via rasher or such, I don't often connect to a computer.
Gapps was either slim mini gapps beta 5.1 or L minimal, I don't remember which or where I found them. I would have followed links from one of the ROM pages though.
TWRP was installed before cm when running slim lp I think. I flashed the cm zip from twrp. Twrp survived install.

same problem (cm 12.1 & RR too). I am trying to replace the file gps.conf of stock 5.1.1. It seems better.

I tried to edit gps.conf, but i got only faster connection and more satellites. I suppose, the main problem is in cm kernel - when i install stock sony firmware, everyting is great with gps, as i said... :crying:

slimkat 4.4.3 working (almost) after official 4.3 update

I was using slimkat 4.4.2 and restored the official samsung rom 4.3 to try a mhl cable. The result as you may know is that I couldn't install any custom rom that wasn't based on samsung's after that.
Searching here in the forums I found some people saying that it was because of a layout change on partitions, others because of knox, or the update in bootloader...
I installed the twrp-2.7.1.0 recovery and tried to install omni rom with pa_gapps, cm11 etc and I always get an error for gapps (couldn't find build.prop or something...). Tried Omega v58 (based on sam) and it worked, then I tried slimkat 4.4.3 weekly and slim_AIO_gapps (advanced wipe, everything but extsd, format data) and it installed everything fine.
It's almost perfect but now I have only a small problem... when I plug the headset the audio is really bad and sometimes I can't hear anything ... I tried another kernel with the same result. Tried slimkat 4.4.2 stable, same.
Does it make any sense to anyone here? any sugestions on how to fix? flash something somewhere maybe :x
and what is the real problem after the 4.3 official update? if slimkat is working maybe we can make other roms work too.
Thank you in advance
Do a full wipe, all your previous issues were due to files left over from other firmware.
On the headset, go back to stock firmware after a full wipe. If still the same then it is hardware.

I still can't install most roms even with full wipe (gapps error) after the 4.3 official update but I'm happy with slimkat. I think maybe it works because it just copies the gapps files to android without doing other checks, maybe editing the scripts we can "force" the install of other roms too. If anyone have any info, please tell me.

Oh, I think it was just a series of bad coincidences. Tried the stock firmware and the headset did not work. Seems like my headset broke the same day all that stuff happened, and I tried the one I use on PC but it didn't connect firmly on s3 so the sound was bad too... just tried a new phone headset and it's working fine.. thank you

GPS Issues after flashing Lollipop

This is not a thread about me asking for help, more so opening the door to help others and provide general guidance with GPS issues on Lollipop.
This past weekend, I flashed back to ZV4 from ZV6. I rooted through Stump Root, installed TWRP, took a backup, and flashed two different Lollipop ROMs. I tried CM first, but am now working with Illusion as the SMS button was broke. GPS would not work no matter the fix on any Google Play Apps, be it a gps.conf changer or an AGPS manager. So there is the back story of what exactly I did, and now I will outline what I did to get GPS working.
I took current backup of Illusion and restored from backup to my stock ZV4 ROM. Lo and behold, getting into the ROM -- I found that GPS was disabled. There was also a secondary "enhanced" GPS option in the ROM I enabled from the same screen in the Location settings menu. (if anyone is still on a stock ROM, can you check for the name of that option?). I also enabled that option. I used "GPS Test" from the Google Play Store and was able to get plenty of satellite fixes -- "3D Fix."
I then rebooted to recovery, restored to the Lollipop ROM -- and GPS worked just fine. This is fairly odd, and we used this method to get GPS to work back in the OG Samsung Epic 4G days. I am wondering if its something that the Stock Rom and firmware can do -- aka turn on GPS, that Lollipop can't actually initiate and toggle. I'm sure Lollipop can "turn it off", but I am not terribly sure of this at the moment.
Anyways, I hope this helps someone out.
OMG thank you! I almost gave up on L for now because no rom I tried would give me a GPS fix. The locating icon only even appeared in the status bar for a few seconds and went away. I restored my stock nand, enabled high accuracy (I usually leave it in battery save unless I'm actually using it), flashed back to L, and bam, instant lock.

This has been a long standing fix, but again confirmed working for me. Brand new VS985 (Verizon LGG3 Warranty Replacement). Had booted the phone to register the new sim card and immediately rooted, Bumped, wipe and flashed Illusion 5.0. Tried maps the next day, GPS apps, etc, NOTHING would work..
Backed up that install in TWRP, loaded up Jasmine 4.0, booted in, turned on GPS, downloaded a GPS app, got a lock, immediately loaded TWRP, wiped 3x, restored my Illusion backup, booted it up, loaded my GPS app, and within 5 seconds it found GPS and locked in.
I can't claim to know why the stock rom would make any diff on turning on GPS, locking in, etc when a rom that does similar stuff and what googles phones are primarily based off of don't work.
This worked though and I'm happy!

I also still have the issue, and can no longer get a GPS lock on 4.4.2 ROMs after having flashed lollipop
I spent hours looking for a solution on this that would not imply flashing another ROM.
What fixed it for me was updating the gps.conf file with a proper NTP server more suitable for your zone.
The easiest way to do this is using FasterGPS app. You need root, of course. But works very well.
Didn't work for me.

I tried this method but it did not work for me. I'm hoping to figure this out without re-installing stock firmware.
Yes gps is not working on lollipop roms. I flashed 2 different lollipop roms, and neither gps is working. I restore my previous kitkat version copied the gps.conf file to my sd card, reflashed the lollipop rom and then I replaced the gps.conf file with the one from kitkat. It works. I updated the rom and the gps won't work again. I replaced it again with the gps.conf from kitkat, gps works fine again.

Flash your stock firmware using .tot not kdz file, but you need another lg flash tool that uses .tot and dll files, just search on google,or use files from this site lgg3root i just did that after trying several stock/custom firmware/gpsconfig files

terribly sorry about the brain fart. whole problem arose because i didnt flash the correct gapps . got the gapps from xda and now its working well. but i am getting a pop up saying that google play services have not been installed on your computer etc...
will this problem go away if i just install the google play services apk?
edit : after flashing the proper gapps, an update from the play store solved everything. Now running smoothly.
since i updated to cm12,go power master has not been able to turn data off when the screen turns off. this was working flawlessly in kitkat. even the go power master widget is not working. thought there might be a problem with root,so flashed supersu 2.40 from recovery. but still it isnt working. any idea what the problem might be?

Has the app been updated to support LP? At times in the past, access for 3rd party apps to stuff like data connection, which requires root, sometimes changes functionality with version upgrades. Don't know if that's the case in this circumstance, but it's something to look into.
Performance drop
Flashed this rom with fulll wipe. Works well, but sometimes performance *drops* happens. It becomes VERY slow, like CPU speed drops down to 128mhz. I had the same problem on cm 11.
Who knows how to fix it?
Looking great and functions great but I am getting terrible battery life due to "miscellaneous" or "Cellular Standby" according to battery stats.
E970
1/15/2015 nightly (problem persists from previous nightly)
Same problem on stock and Solid_GEEB Kernel
PA 5.0 GAPPS
Lucky to get 12 hours of battery under normal use. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Nick

Video call issue
Video call isn't working in both skype and viber. Skype app is crashing as soon as I turn video on. Viber just doesn't turn on the video transmission. Can please somebody report about this issue to CyanogenMod team. I use video calling really often, so this is kind of issue keeps me away from using official CM12 builds. CM11 builds had this issue too and it hasn't got fixed till now.

Settings - About phone - CyanogenMod updates indicates no new updates found despite new updates posted at http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=e970. I switched from unofficial CM12 to official CM12 several updates ago. I'm using the gapps posted here https://s.basketbuild.com/gapps. Is there a setting I need to revise to begin seeing the CM updates on my phone. It's no big deal since I can go to the CM device list and download directly.

Sorry for late answer. I was too busy to post logcats earlier. I hope issues will get fixed.
I installed CM12.0 (1/27 build) but any 5.0 gapps I try fails to flash on the official TWRP 2.8.3.0 for the e970. I've tried bpear, PA, and one other. I can get the ROM to boot, then it gives FC's for every Google App, and the apps are all named by their com. ... name, and say "app not installed" when clicked. I have loaded the zip files over wifi, through adb push, via usb, and through straight download to the device. I've also run them from the external SD and the internal storage.
Is there a different recovery I should be using with this? Will a Nexus 4 recovery work on the e970?

Audio calls problem
Hi,
I recently updated my OS from LG's Official 4.1.2 to CM12. Everything seems to be working fine but for making/receiving calls. I am not able to hear or speak over the microphone and speaker outlet unless or until I use a headphones in which case both work properly. Can anyone please help?
Details on my upgrade:
I had backed up my data and downloaded the CM12 zip files with Gapps and SuperUser into my SD card. Once they were ready, I restarted my mobile in Recovery mode and wiped the user data and installed CM12.zip followed by Gapps followed by SuperUser. Then rebooted my mobile and check everything for the working condition. It was working perfectly except for the fact that when I receive phone calls or when I make a phone call once I attend the call, I would not be able to speak to the person or hear the person in normal mode nor in speaker mode. The only way it works is if I use my headphones.
I had installed CM12 01/26/2015 version. And have tried later versions until 01/30 but I do not find that to be fixing. It would be of great help if anyone could help me.
Thanks,
Arun

No mobile data with CM12.1 Stable( 19.11.2015) from Lolli. - Do I need bootstack?

I am new to this forum, but I read so many hours and thanks to this great forum I was able to flash cm12.1 on my LG G2 mini(D620r).
This is really a great rom, everything works very good. except one detail: mobile data, I have the "!" next to the symbol.
I used cm12.1 for some time on my Samsung S2(I9100, CM12.1 with Dorimanx Kernel and Stweaks to change settings) and I missed it so much when I got the g2 mini with stock rom.
For the LG I really had to read a lot(english is not my native language) to understand everything. The CM12.1 for S2 was much easier.
I did it this way:
LG G2 mini(D620r) Stock ROM Android 5.0.2 (should not have done the update from KK)
1.root
2. unlock bootloader(patched)
3. Custom Recovery TWRP v2.8.7
4. wipe everything except internal+sdcard
5. flash cm12.1 stable + gapps pico ... cm12.1 works perfect.
except mobile data, I did notice this very late, cause I used the g2m only with wifi.
I tested different APN settings, but I could not get a mobile data connection. (it tells me that it is connected sometimes, but it does not work)
I put my SIM card in a lg g2 with stock 5.0.2, works perfect. same with my old samsung s2 cm12.1
"CM12.1 does not need any bootstack in the latest version" is written in the CM12.1 Thread, first posting.
Could it be that something went wrong and I have to install the KK Bootstack because I am still on L?
is it possible to do this now and than SIM works again as it should??what else could I try?
I tried some other versions: 28-12, 30-12 and 01-01-2016. with all the same problem.
I read in a german forum about a guy with same problem(but other smartphone), he installed cm12.1 at least 10times, also different releases ...finally for him a different baseband worked. But I know not much about this...
Thank you, I am sure someone in this great forum knows about this problem

Hi. Your problem is very specific. I have D620r too, and no problem with mobile data. But I use KK bootstack. You can try flash Carbon rom which is based on CM 12.1 or try this version and find out, if problem is there too. Be sure, you format system, data, cache for clean installation. If problem is still there, you should try KK bootstack(recommend as last option). Maybe somenone else will help you, I really don't face this problem.
Good luck!
Thank you, I already tried bootstack v1.5 KK 5min ago. I still have this problem.
When I put my sim card in the s2, I get some sms from fyve(vodafone) and apn is set up and so on..nothing like this with the g2m
I will try to get some other sim cards an look if there is the same problem.
and will get carbon rom...but it is be not so much different??
does anyone knows somehing about this baseband thing?
EDIT
Carbon Rom does not work. ;(
I will go back to cm12, this should work
I flashed CM12 and now I have mobile data connection again. seems to be a problem just with cm12.1!
But if anyone knows what could have been the problem please tell me, i have a full backup and would prefer to use cm12.1
thank you
Omg, something went terrible wrong.
I installed a ROM(DroidMaster Lollipop-lite) and thought I also would need the Bootstack for L.
So I restored the backup(Druidmaster) and the bootstack...no I lost the IMEI, WIFI MAC adress ...there is nothing left^^
The system boots normally. I have done a backup(TWRP) of the system, should still be there.
I will try this.
please tell me if there ist any hope to restore this g2mini???

as i know you dont need flash right bootstack on newest cm12, you can flash it on kk or l - no difference.
take it easy, flash stock fresh http://lg-phone-firmware.com/firmware-LG+G2+Mini-Tutti-57.html by lg flash tool (you can find easy some tutorial), for example v20a or v10.. (first is lollipop second is kk) and make every step again.
Droid master you can restore only when you was on L and will be no problem. If you need CM12 just install fresh kdz file of kk, root it, unlock bootloader, install twrp then cm12 and will be ok.
I restored my backup of cm12.1 because I was worried about the missing IMIE and baseband. After the Backup I had my IMIE ... again, everything works except mobile data.
I don't know what exactly is the problem: mobile data works with every ROM except cm12.1 (no matter which version I take.). I would like to report this problem in the cm12.1 thread but I don't have permission(not enough postings) maybe someone could help me. because of all ROMs I like cm12.1 most.
I will install cm12 and look how this works and if there are any bugs. If I don't like it I will go back to stock with the flash tool 2014 and kdz(already done this once)
thank you

In CM 12.1 go to settings >> mobile networks >> Acces point names (APN) and if you don't see there nothing, you have to configure it. In google find apn settings of your mobile network provider, some guide or tutorial and configure it or just remember apn settings from work rom. Good luck.

Wow Los has finally arrived for the Jewel but my Jewel is no longer with me
I can't seems to use external sdcard as internal there's simply no option to do it while formatting. Other then this it's pretty snappy thanks again.

Thanks for testing! Try the new Nougat build—I wasn't able to move apps onto the SD card (that is a LineageOS bug), but I was able to format it as internal storage.
I couldn't install the latest build 14.1 well just keeps bootlooping at the HTC screen.
Wipe
Install latest build
Install Gapps 7.1 (tried without installing this also) still no go ?

There appears to be an error in the build. I will upload a new build within a day.
Edit: New build has been uploaded! Please report if it works.
Never thought my Jewel would ever see Nougat (let alone Lollipop or Marshmallow). Just flashed and all is working well so far. Awesome work!
God tier work here, I'm blown away. I misplaced my Moto G 3rd gen somewhere in my apartment, so I've given up and dusted off my Evo. I was set to just use the Viper 4.1.1 that was on there, but some apps weren't installing so I came on ol' XDA. This is much more than I expected, thank you.
With that said, any tips on getting this to activate on Sprint / Ting? It was working fine on the old rom, but not kicking in here.
I know this isn't totally related to this ROM, but maybe it can be. I'm having issue with this (and most other ROMs I try) where the per button works physically, but only the buttons light up. I have to press the power button several times to get the screen to wake. This isn't consistent though. Seems worse if the screen has been off for a while. Does anyone know of a fix, and if so, can it be incorporated into this ROM? I know there have other threads about this but it seems like they have been dropped.

I believe that the service must be activated on a stock ROM before flashing a custom ROM. Then, the correct APN has to be set according to the carrier under Settings > More > Cellular networks > Access Point Names.

I am not sure of a fix, and I have not encountered this issue, but have you tried enabling Wake device using the Camera button under Settings > Buttons?

I've tried that in the past. Forgot about it this time around. Tried it again and it seems to be about the same as the actual power button for getting the screen to come on correctly.

My wife is temporarily using my old Jewel because she dropped & broke her crappy samsung phone. can someone please tell me how this rom is working?

The ROM is working fine for the most part. The battery is not great, but that may be due to the battery's age. Additionally, there is a bug with BoringSSL that sometimes prevents the Play Store or Gmail from working temporarily.
sounds good. yeah, I'm sure it's age. thanks man. take care-
Trouble with WiFi
Did a Full factory reset, installed rom, gapps, and supersu from TWRP, factory wipe again from TWRP; now the OS is installed and running but after connecting to my home network, says no internet access although the netork is up and running normally, all other devices connected. Any thoughts or suggestions. I have a backup of my previous state, so I can revert, but would like to keep this on 7.1 for consistency between this and my primary device. The primary use for this device is media streaming.

I believe that the WiFi issue have been fixed in the latest build (20170522).
Thank you for this rom!
I had been using cyanogenmod 5.0 and dirtyunicorns 5.1 both were solid roms. Unfortunately the latest apps seem to run a bit slow on them. I thought it was the device but after installing this rom everything is snappy! It manages 1gig of ram better than any other rom and that 1.5ghz dualcore still runs strong. Snapchat is way more responsive on this rom, instagram and fb run without problems. GPS, 4g, sms, wifi, camera, sd storage, everything works! I've only noticed a few bugs. The wifi activity arrows don't show when something is downloading/uploading but wifi itself does work. Also, even tho I have working active cell service, it tries to activate itself again everytime I reboot and fails but calls-sms-data continue to work lol. The biggest bug is that auto-rotation stops working after 30-60 minutes and it stays stuck on portrait mode. Nothing but a full reboot will get it working again, a quick softboot won't fix it. I've tried changing the rotation settings and also added some lines to the build.prop but no solution thus far. I love this rom so much, if it's not fixed I might try some auto rotation apps. One last thing, it would be cool if the # in the status bar would go away after I close whatever app has root. The previous rom I had did that. Thank you so much to all the developers for bringing life to this phone!

Thanks for trying out the ROM! The WiFi activity arrows are intentionally disable on LineageOS. I do not currently have an active cell service on this device, so I am unable to fix the activation bug for now. Could you flash the patch below in recovery and test if autorotation is working properly? It should also enable the option to hide the Superuser icon under "Status bar" > "System icons".
