I bought on of the fancy desktop docks for my samsung vibrant... after reading the simple instructions on how it works yada yada... it simply says that the audio output on the dock will not work until they release a 2.2 rom... so what im wondering is why i cant for the life of me see any settings to switch it on in my jk6 rom or have they just not gotten around to implementing audio through the usb yet? and does anyone know if there is a mod to get it to work?
Nobodys had an issue like this yet?
I just received the official car and desk docks today (ordered from Samsung mobile accessories page).
I'm running FROYO.UVJK2 (Kernel 2.6.32.9).
When I put the phone in the car dock, a "Car Mode Activated" icon (looks like a steering wheel) shows up in the task bar. The 3.5mm audio jack on the back of the dock does not output audio (Bluetooth Audio works fine). Also, the "Car Home" app does not launch like I would have hoped (I downloaded this from the Market as it was not installed with this build).
The desk dock does even less than that. When I put the phone in the desk dock, there is no indication that its docked at all. The charging port does work, but like the car dock, the 3.5mm jack does nothing (apparently).
There was a small red sticker on the back of the car dock that said that the 3.5 mm "headphone jack" would only work with Android 2.2 and later.
I'm hoping to have the same experience I had with my Nexus 1 in the Google Car/Desk docks (automatically go into car/desk mode and audio ports become active).
I'll keep digging around and see if I can figure out whats going on .
Edits:
I should also add that I'm currently running LauncherPro with this build
Also, Perhaps this thread would get more interest if it was in the Accessories section?
Updated to jl5 and then to nero³ issues still exsist... why sell a product that doesnt work properly because of the lack of software support from your company.... and how does it know its a car dock as opposed to a normal charger?
With the car dock, the phone is definitely detecting the dock when it's connected. The "Car Mode" icon (Steering Wheel) appears on the notification bar. However, the Samsung "Car Home" app does not automatically launch.
The Desk Dock appears to be nothing more than a charging cradle. With the build I'm using now, the phone doesn't change modes in any discernable way, and when the phone is docked, and the dock is connected to the computer, it doesn't detect the device (although it does charge). I have to take the phone out of the cradle and connect the cable directly to get get a connection (Odin/Kies, etc...).
As far as getting the phone to go into 'Car Home' or "Desk Home", I found an app called "Locale" in the marketplace that shows a lot of promise for being able to have the phone change state based on various conditions (location, connections, orientation, app state,etc....). I have it working successfully using the car dock to have it launch Car Home (or whatever app you want). Unfortuantely, I'm not having the same luck with "Desk Home".
Locale is really amazing, but it is pricey ($9.99 US), and a lot of the functionality depends on user provided plugins (there are plenty.. some free, some about $1 US).
Back to the hardware. I'm happy with it generally, but frustrated that the audio jacks don't work. I can work around this in the car, as I can sync to my car stereo with bluetooth, but I would prefer to use the 3.5mm jack for many reasons.
I was going to try the Nero v.3 ROM today (still may) to see if that worked, but someone posted here that it wasn't working.
I'm wondering if this the dock support is something that has to be built into the ROM? Or is it part of the core? I'm guessing the latter.
It will be my luck that this will start working right about the time I order my Optimus X2 when it comes out
I'm using the dock with an international i9000 with firmware XXJPY and the standard media player does actually put out sound through the dock. My problem is I use spotify for my music which doesn't happen to do the same thing. Would there be anyway to force it to play through the usb audio out?
I use the dock with an unbranded, unlocked international GT-I9000. Could not get the Home Desk app to work, it would always crash with or without the dock (ver 1.0.1 available from mediafire.com - can't post the link since I'm a "new user" ). Then somebody passed on to me directly rev 1.0 of that app (can't find it anywhere on the net) and it all started to work. First I was on froyo 2.2 (XXJPA) and now I'm on froyo 2.2.1 (XXJPY) meaning:
- Home Desk app automatically kicks in when the phone is inserted into the dock
- Music does pass on to the dock audio jack but first must un-select the "Internal Speaker" option in the Home Desk app
- Works with the stock GT-I9000 player which is accessed via the Home Desk app Music icon (that icon appears to be hard wired to the stock player)
- Works with a third party player (I use PowerAMP) which can not be accessed via the Home Desk app Music icon - but there is a limitation
The limitation I see is that since the 3rd party player can not be invoked or accessed via the Home Desk app Music icon, one must exit the Home Desk app to get to the music controls (like volume since the hard buttons are covered by the dock!!!) - and during that time the sound cuts off from the external audio jack . The sound returns once the Home Desk app is invoked again (with the Android Home button). But when the Home Desk app Music icon is used to get to the stock player the sound does not cut off. Sounds like the Home Desk app has the sound integration via USB and so when it is not active the music cuts off. Unfortunately I know of no option that would redirect that icon to an alternate player. Maybe somebody can figure that out?
BTW – UI of the Home Desk app that I use (rev 1.0) looks different than UIs posted by others . See the attachments.

the fix is here for the desk/car dock!!
So I have been waiting for this moment for months sense I purchased my Samsung desk dock and car dock...
For all that are wondering go to the market and seach for samsung car home and / or samsung desk home.
When you do you will see that there are now two apps that will appear for each app that will look the same.
tap on them and read the discription. one of the apps will say that it is Froyo compatible to fix audio.
download them, when you click on the app to open it> select the samsung car home not the google car home that so many of us Nero/Bionix users love ;(
when that opens you will see that there is now a icon on the top right part of the screen that has a picture of a speaker. Tap the icon and it will switch to the docks 3.5mm out put!
P.S. if you listen to other music players aside from the music saved on the phone ie. (pandora) start the car home app or desk home app and hit the home button go to apps and open the app you want to listen to. Wish they had allowed us to add apps to the apps home screen but this work around will do the trick until someone incorparates it into google car home..
If this helped you please hit the thanks button! and enjoy!
@lovemysgs - I don't see anything for Samsung Home/Car Desk in the market . Is it because my GT-I900 is unbranded?

What ROM are you using? I know that sometimes when I have flashed other ROMS the Dev has not or forgets to update market.
I am using Bionix V and it showed up there today.

Hm, I'm new to Android so be gentle. I did not do anything to the phone other than flash it to 2.2.1 via Kies. In About Phone it says:
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband: I9000XXJPY
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build: FROYO.XXJPY

The dock has a 3.5 jack on the back. Sound is piped to it via phone's USB but only if the Home Desk app is running with the "Internal Speaker" option deselected (must have froyo as well). I don't think however that this works for phone functions, I think that it only works for music.
Just got my official one today, sitting at my desk trying it out. After a little saying "please" (and removing the Google Car Home that I loved), I got it to work, and gmail notifications are coming through the 3.5 mm on the dock.
I went into the market and downloaded the "Car Home Samsung Vibrant 2" (I could not see it in my phone market, so I went to the web market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.samsung.tmo.carhome1&feature=search_result )
This app has the speaker button on it, along with a brightness button, and an exit button.
When I turned off the internal speaker, the notifications seemed to work on mine (Bionix-v 1.3.1 with OverStock)
Hope that helps!
It's not elegant, but I just cut away that corner of the dock to make room for the audio plug, and that worked great for me. Instructions here:

Hello, i've done a quick search on the forum here for what i'm looking for but all the posts are old and everyone seemed completely clueless at the time so maybe someone will have an answer now.
I have an LG Ally which is running Android 2.22 if I recall correctly. I currently have a setup so that I plug my phone into my stereo through AUX so I can use my phone to play music, and as a GPS when needed. I use the Music system that's built into android phone, but when i'm driving it's very hard to change the songs and still drive. I know they make bluetooth headphone that allow you to pause, skip, etc so there must be a bluetooth remote control that I can pair to my phone so I don't have to take my eyes off the road in order to change a song.
To make this clear, I am NOT looking for an app, nor am I trying to turn my phone into a remote control. I can't stress this enough, because a lot of posts I read while looking into this a lot of people where getting confused and thinking the person wanted to use their phone as a remote and this is not the case.
I would greatly appreciate some help finding something that would work, since i've not seemed to be able to find anything.
Sony Liveview
Check out the Sony Liveview to use as a bluetooth remote for you android based phones.
I would post a link but since i am a new member it will not let me so just google Sony liveview
Sony Smartwatch
Looks like the Sony Liveview is the older version so may want to look at the newer Sony SmartWatch
Maybe a Bluetooth game controller? Probably still need a helper app.
Not yet
I'm looking for the same exact thing, looks like it is such a small market that there are no products to suit the need.
There is a remote called Satechi BT Media remote that is compatible with iPhones.
If it works like like a Apple Bluetooth Keyboard, media functions should work with Galaxy Note, but I don't know about LG. Every company use different Bluetooth stack.

So i know this thread is a little old and i realize this doesnt directly help the OP, but could an IR remote, plugged into a USB host like a moto dock or one of those cables that enables the host command through the mini usb port possibly work? I suppose youd still need some sort of software to control the function...
I was thinking about this the other day when i had my phone attached hdmi to the tv, watching netflix. Once the episode was over, id have to get up and pick something else. A remote or a bt mouse might be a decent solution, but a mouse isnt very sexy as youd have to move around and click, as opposed to just using a directional pad or an arrow key.

I was looking for exactly the same thing, for the same purpose.
I wasn't aware of the bluetooth HID protocol until now and hence I was thinking about a different solution:
I thought about using a bluetooth headset for media control as these often include all the media control buttons.
However I only wanted to use the media buttons of the bluetooth headset while I was playing music through the headphone jack in my car.
Therefore I was seeking for a solution to connect the bluetooth headset in a way that its buttons can be used for media control but no music would be streamed to the headset or could be muted.
I think it's possible but some android hacking might be involved.
But that's a thing of the past with this new Satechi Bluetooth Remote, the amazon sales description states that Android devices are supported as long as they support Bluetooth HID. The customer review section also includes a guy who succesfully paired the Satechi with his Galaxy III.
The Satechi was introduced a couple of months ago so maybe other manufacturers will introduce similar and cheaper devices.
If your Android OS supports Bluetooth HID you can also use some Bluetooth HID devices which are advertised to work with iOS only (ie Apple Bluetooth Keyboard).

So this is a pretty old thread but Motorola has a product called the RZ100 which should fit the bill nicely. I use it for my GS3 (I travel quite a bit, so gs3 + HDMI out adapter + this remote = bliss) and it works without issues. The only thing I would like is an app that allows remapping the buttons on it (Ahem Android developpers...)

Thank you so much.
I'm using my Sensation with a Harman Kardon Go+Play and therefore had the same problem as OP.
I read your post and realized that I already own a Logilink BT0019 for other purposes.
I paired it and voilá, the music plays via the Harman Kardon, but the BT0019 media buttons still work.
Only Play/Pause and Next/Previous Song though because the sound level Buttons only change the Headsets volume which means that I do now need two remotes (the BT0019 +the provided Harman Kardon Remote for volume control.) but okay, cool.
I got the BT0019 for 22€, so it's a decently low priced solution too, even if I would not need the Headset for other purposes.
I know it's not bluetooth but the Mele F10 air mouse can do the trick via USB OTG.
I'm looking for a similar solution to control the media playing on an Android tablet for my daughter while on road trips. We have a Nexus 10 currently and will probably be getting a Nexus 7/Kindle Fire HD/Nook HD+ soley for her uses. Are there any android apps that might also achieve this using bluetooth? If I could control the media on the tablet using my Galaxy Nexus phone, that would be even better.
I succesfully managed to get what the OP asked for with an old TomTom bluetooth remote like this one (www ebay com/itm/331084156246) thanks to the informations provided by Norvan Gorgi at norvangorgi blogspot it/2011/10/using-tomtom-bluetooth-remote-with.html (insert dots as required ), and it worked brilliantly with both my SGS3 and my first gen Galaxy Note.
Basically, the remote is recognized as an external keyboard, so all you need is to remap its keys (the tomtom remote has 10 buttons) according to your needs, as per the instruction provided by Norvan in his blog.
Thing is, this stopped working when I installed CyanogenMod 10.2 on both my mobiles, appearently because android 4.3 now does not recognizes the remote as a keyboard anymore, but rather as an 'input device', ie with a nice 'joystick' icon next to it (and my own keyboard definition files won't work anymore).
Anyway, once paired with a 4.3 device the four directional keys and the central 'ok' one will sitll work, so it might still prove useful for someone, even if it does not have proper 'direct' media functions as it would have when set up as a keyboard.
Satechi Remote Control
I recently purchased the Satechi remote control because even though it says its specifically made for iOS, people in the reviews said it works on android and also because it works on 3rd party applications like spotify.
I have two Samsung devices, my phone which is Samsung Galaxy Note II and a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2 which is just used to download my spotify playlist for the car. since the Galaxy Player 4.2 only has 512mb of ram its really annoying when i want to change song, very slow and I realised I pay a lot of attention to the device while driving and that isnt good!
so I bought the remote thinking it would help. now the problem is it doesnt connect to android devices because it requires bluetooth HID, according to a few posts found on this website and a few others, I downloaded bluetooth keyboard easy connect and on my phone it worked fine. however on my galaxy player it didnt work. it just keeps TRYING to connect, the device is running 2.3.6.
my question is, is there any other application i can use or anything I can do to use this remote on my mp3 player?
I realize this thread is very old but I found this thread searching for the exact same thing. I have not ordered this yet, but the Amazon reviews seem to suggest this item is exactly what I have been looking for!
Amazon link
Any current suggestions?
Do remotes just work as a HID keyboard or keyboard-mouse combo?
Hi everyone!
I've searched this a thousand times and can't seem to find anything current. I'm looking for a head unit that simply allows steering wheel controls and Bluetooth multipoint. I don't care how it looks, because I plan on installing my Nexus 9 into the dash and keeping my Nexus 6 in it's mount.
Ideally, I'd like the tablet to be the master connection, until sound comes out from my phone, then the phone takes over (be it music, a phone call, etc.) I'd also like to be able use my steering wheel controls... So!
Anyone have any leads for me? Many thanks in advance!
Hello! First sorry for my poor language.
Polish android forums can tell me only stupid ideas, these people can't use brains.
I want to open discussion about mounting smartphone with Android to car. Important things: considered connect charger(i have car electric items and idea how to connect and hide wiring), make car recorder(AutoGuard app), make audio source(bluetooth connected for car radio - without wiring), sometimes use Torque app(i have OBD 2 mini ELM adapter).
I have some old phone - Samsung SM-G350. Car is passat b5, but its not important.
My samsung is rooted, have cyanogenmod 11 on android 4.4.4. I'm searching ideas for reaction in my telephone when i turn on my engine. For example - if i turn engine on, car charger is working and callphone battery is loading. I want to in this moment run AutoGuard and start recording, or screen is displaying always and is unlocked.
Have some ideas? Maybe change android files? Some scripts? Help me, i need to good advices.
You need the Android Auto for that, old cars don't usually have it.
To have something mounted, your best option is to get an Android Auto receiver, but you'll have to do the research with your car info and stuff like that. You could also just get a simple phone mount for pretty cheap on an online store like Amazon.
With Tasker, possibly, you might be able to use that root capability to its potential by setting up some automation stuff that opens apps once the phone detects power input (once it is plugged in).
Android Auto is a good option, but I don't think that it runs on Android 4.4.4. You'll have to get something newer.
(I also just realized that this is a really old thread that people are responding to now. )
So i bought this device off ebay to go in my car to use with the stereo screen to keep my son entertained on days out etc playing games on it and to use as a satnav, this was a replacement for the two which have failed in the past so thought this one would be decent, however when i plug it into the hdmi input on my car stereo the screen is all garbled and will not display properly, i don't know if this is because the device says it is capable of 4k or something else, i've plugged it into my tv at home and tried to reduce the resolution via the android stick settings menu to see if this helps but tbh i don't know if it's the right settings i am trying or not, if anyone could possibly help out with this i would greatly appreciate it as now that my son knows its possible he won't be quiet about it lol.
Also if i can get it sorted i would like to be able to change the launcher from the stock mediabox one to nova launcher but every time i try it just crashes, same with all other launchers
Thanks in advance for any help or insight.
