[Q] Where/How are hidden files stored in android

I used to have one of the original galaxys...I used this file hide app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beka.tools.hidefiles&hl=en) for some picture storage. I've since broken the phone, so I cant get on through that. I have the sdcard, and although the app says it stores in the /HFILE folder of SD card, when I go to it, there is no files in it to be seen. I have the "show hidden files" on windows checked. Is there a way to retrieve this, or show these hidden files. I also have a nandroid back up of this phone during the time, but using the nandroid browser I didn't see anything that resembled what I could use, other than the oriiginal app's APK. Any advice?

[Q] Where are home screen shortcuts stored?

Hi. I'm running rooted KitKat on Sam Galaxy Note GT-N7000. Can anybody tell me where the home screen shortcuts are stored?
Reason I'm asking is that whenever I update ES File Explorer, my file shortcuts get renamed to "ES Note Editor" etc., and I have to manually recreate them in order to get the filenames back. I reckon I could probably write a little script to do that if I knew where they were stored.
An answer at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543882 says they are in /data/data/com.android.launcher/databases , but /data/data/com.android.launcher does not exist on my machine.
Thanks a lot.

[Q] How to Hide Folder Or Files in Android Without any Software Or App

In this thread you will read about simple and easiest way using which you can hide any folder or file in Android phone without using any software or app. So why don’t you check the steps below:
Guide to Hide Folder/Files in Android Without Software
1. First of all Open file manager of your device. I’m using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for this tutorial. (but procedure is same in all the device)
2. In File Manager, Tap on Device Storage or SD Memory Card to head over to the next step.
3. Now in My Files you need to Create New Folder with any name. But make sure to add . before the name of the folder. For Example, If you name the folder “lavish” add . and it will look like “.lavish”
4. Once folder is created you need to copy and paste all the private content in this folder an check your gallery whether its showing your photos/videos or not. Once you confirm it to be visible follow the next step
5. In option you will see Setting option, just tap on it.
6. When you click on Settings, another window will open. In this window you will notice two option Show Hidden Files and Show Hidden Extension. You need to uncheck show hidden files option which is checked by default.
Note: If you want to hide file uncheck show hidden files, and if you want to hide particular extension uncheck show hidden extension
7. Now after doing above step you will notice that the folder you created is not visible in the Windows. Now this means you have successfully hidden your private content. To confirm this, again head over to gallery and I’m sure that you will notice all the photos and videos which was visible to till 3 steps are not visible any more.
8. Whenever you want to access these files. You just need to check Show Hidden Files or Show Hidden Extension and all Folders and File become visible to you.
Note: In case, if you’re seeing the hidden files in gallery after following the above method. You just need to move the folder to another location and move it back to same location.

So this is how you can hide folder of files in Android phone without using any software of application. Try this trick and let me know whether this was helpful or not. You can also share what other method you’re using to hide your folders and files.
Good idea.trying now.
Why do all that. Just stick a empty file with the . nomedia file extention in what ever folder you don't want picked up in gallery or other folders.

Media Folders Creation

Hello,
I have a Asus ROG Phone 3 and have a few questions.
Anytime I reboot my phone and go to check my internal storage, Android is automatically creating the following folders ASUS, Movies, Music, TwinApps, and Subtitles folder.
I assume this is just the default Behavior but does anyone know of a way to disable that or just to keep those folders deleted forever?
My phone is rooted, and I'm tech savvy as hell but I can't figure it out.
Anyone have a clue if the service/app that is remaking these folders is Android itself or somerhing from Asus?
I also recently switched to Android 12 and I noticed something strange, anytime I try to edit or access /sdcard/Android/OBB folder I can't edit anything in it, I can't copy or paste anything into that folder if I can even view it.
Mind you this is with root and using a file manager I've been using for years that I know works. Did something change in the background of A12?
Lastly does anyone know if there is a way to change the default save location for screenshots and/or DCIM camera folder?
Thanks

1) most of the folders are created by android Media scanner but at least one is Asus specific. in theory any app can create own folders, if allowed in permissions.
2) you need file explorer that is updated to support scoped storage so it can view media files from other apps, for example SD Maid.
3) in camera app itself one can switch storage location to MicroSD card. not sure about screenshots, though.

Question Refreshing the hidden folder in Mi Gallery

I opened the hidden folder in Mi Gallery to see one of my videos. I opened a video, and it said "file format corrupted or not supported". I then removed it from hidden folder into one of my folders. But then it did not show in that folder and it is not showing in the hidden folder either. I checked File Manager (MIUI/Gallery/cloud/secretAlbum/) to find the video there and it is saved as an .Isav file, which means it is in the hidden folder. However, I cannot find it in the gallery or view it anyhow. I tried using adb shell to disable and enable gallery but it did not work. The video is very important and I need it somehow. My device is unrooted and I do not want to root it.
