I have a Kindle Fire HD 6 that appears to be bricked...
I did not do the attempted root, so I'm not sure what went into it, but I know it has been tinkered with.
It boots to the Fire System Recovery screen, giving the option to Reboot or Reset to Factory Defaults. Both options result in a reboot to the same screen.
The system recovery screen has a series of lines of code at the bottom such as:
E: failed to mount ...
E: Can't mount ...
E: Can't open ...
I have tried booting while holding the volume button down, power button, etc. with no luck.
any ideas? is it done for?
note: it is no longer in warranty, so that's not an option

we are in teh same boat.
looks like unique solution is something to do with factory cable, a special cable which shorts pin 4 and pin1 on usb connector, which makes the tablet boot into fastboot mode.
let me know if you find something really useful, I have been lookng for info for days now.

Hey guys,
It looks like I've finally screwed up my phone. It was bound to happen.
Here's what happened:
I was running an unchanged, rooted rom. I installed RyanA's lagfix, which worked, but didn't make a huge difference.
So I unapplied it, and then applied the voodoo lagfix. This worked great until I tried to install a backup. I forgot to disable voodoo, and now I'm stuck.
Problems:
The phone boots up, I can use it and everything, but I have 0.00 application space. I cannot install anything!
I cannot enter USB mode in any way. I installed the drivers, uninstalled them, re-installed... nothing. I am running Windows 7, but I tried it on an XP machine, still nothing.
If I go into Clockwork to try to factory reset, or install my backup stock rom, I get this error:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Error mounting /data/!
Skipping format...
Copying files...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
E: Can't mount DATA:
E: Failure at line 372:
copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
Installation aborted.
Lastly, I can't enter download mode at all. I may have a hardware locked Vibrant, because I've never been able to get into it. This is a problem, because I can't flash Odin to fix this whole mess.
I now come to you people who have been super helpful in the past! What can I do aside from cry?
You are getting that error becuase you still have a ext4 partition in place. If you can still acess your sd card, then download "disable-lagfix" zip,or create a file by that name in the "voodoo" folder (reboot), or flash zip through clockwork. Then run your nandroid backup. I always keep that zip on my sdcard for this very situation.
If you can boot up, and get into the Android OS, you can almost assuredly fix it.
What have you tried to get into Download mode? Try to follow these instructions exactly.
1- Install Samsung Kies. (This will install the drivers needed for your phone onto your computer).
2- Power down your phone.
3- Remove the battery.
4- Plug a usb cable into your phone.
5- Plug the usb cable into your computer.
6- While holding your phone with one hand, press and hold the Volume Up AND Volume Down button AND the power button.
7- While holding down all three buttons, put your battery into the phone.
8- As soon as you put the battery back in you will see a small icon in the center of the screen, as soon as it goes away, (it will be a solid black screen) release ONLY the power button. Continue to hold the Volume keys. Timing is important here, you must release the button as soon as you see a black screen after the initial animation.
This should get you into Download mode where you can flash with Odin and fix it right up.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the speedy response guys. I'll give it a shot now and see what happens!

I ended up making this very same mistake a few days ago. This might be silly, but have you tried disabling Voodoo yet? When this happened to me, I was able to put the "disable lagfix" file in the Voodoo folder and it fixed it. It copied the ext4 back to rfs and I was then able to restore a backup and my /data was recognized once again with no errors.

You are an absolute genius! I just got in on the first try following those instructions!
It looks like everything is on the way to working again, thanks so much!!
And thanks everyone else for the help!
I didn't personally come up with that procedure, I found it in other threads here on XDA after a couple hours of searching since I soft bricked my phone yesterday. Glad I could relay the info and help you out.
Ok, I know this has been posted before, but I can't find my specific problem and I've tried just about everything here and other web sites with no luck.
facts;
1. cannot load CWM any more (stuck at "booting recovery kernel image")
2. cannot load anything into internal memory. I can see a drive show up on my computer but it tells me to insert a disk.
3. APX usb driver works, ran nvflash (different versions) successfully but tablet does not reboot by it self afterwards. it hangs where it reads "Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server"
4. tried recovery through external sd card with no luck.
PLEASE HELP!!!! REALLY LIKE ANDROID AND DON'T WANT TO TRY IPAD.
Look in my signature. Code red.
thx goodintentions, but i just tried code red, double red, tripple red and detox. Everything seems to execute fine during nvflash. My computer starts running the bat file and my tablet displays "Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server"
computer finishes bat and reads to press enter, i press enter and window closes, but my tablet never leaves the black screen with the same message "Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server".
Even when i do DETOX my screen displays the red "magic value mismatch" message like it says in your steps, then i nvflash again and i'm back to square one. with 3 birds and no CWM. Any other suggestions?
Format MISC partition

According to rajeevvp, sometimes formating the MISC partition can fix the tablet not booting into recovery/CWM. I have had other users try this and it has worked for them. Save the attachment with a .bat extension, drop in your nvflash folder & execute it. Power down the gtab after running it and then try restarting in recovery mode.

Did you make sure to wipe data right after nvflash? Did you use the right nvflash file (the one with cwm pre-installed)?

Formatting the "misc" partition is useful only for some specific cases, and this doesn't seem to be one of those. Here, the problem seems to be that he's not able to boot into recovery mode which suggests a CWM problem, possibly due to a bootloader/kernel mismatch.
You should wipe the misc partition if:
1. Every reboot goes into recovery mode.
2. You get a message everytime from the bootloader saying:
Detect a recovery command
Erasing MSC

If your stock recovery to CWM recovery process was botched or aborted, then you should wipe the cache partition also.

Did you use the correct version of CWM for your bootloader? Try loading the latest CWM-4.0.1.5. Use the nvflash command as indicated in the thread with a "--go" tacked on at the end.
2. cannot load anything into internal memory. I can see a drive show up on my computer but it tells me to insert a disk.

Did you go to "mounts and storage", then select "mount USB storage"? If you did, and the drive still appears unformatted, then you'll have to repartition the internal SD card. (There are other ways of fixing this problem without losing (too much) data, but it's fairly advanced involving some command line work in CWM.)
3. APX usb driver works, ran nvflash (different versions) successfully but tablet does not reboot by it self afterwards. it hangs where it reads "Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server"

For nvflash to reboot the gtablet, the command line you use has to have a "--go" at the end. If you don't, then the bootloader will wait for additional commands. This is the normal behaviour. Did your command (actually, the final one if there were a sequence of nvflash command lines) have a "--go" at the end?
thanks everybody for your input.
rajeevvp , i downloaded CWM-4.0.1.5 but don't quite understand the instructions for execution. (sorry still a newbee).
also, if "mounts and storage" is in a menu of the actual tablet then i can't access it.
NOW THE NEW. in desperation I took it appart and unplugged the battery and tried discharging the caps. still nothing. THEN in even further desperation i shorted a couple of the battery wires wile tablet was ON trying to load the kernel and my tablet went into CWM... this was reproduceable and it loaded CWM every time BUT even thou i could get into CWM I could not actually execute anything from it because it would not detect me touching the HOME button to execute. sooo still stuck.

This makes me wonder now if you followed goodintentions's code red/.../detox steps correctly: If you've correctly completed any of the code ... procedures listed on the viewsonic g-tablet for dummies site before, then you should not have any trouble with the nvflash instructions for installing CWM-4.0.1.5. Put the tablet into APX mode (Power and Vol [-] key) and then just run the command as listed on your desktop PC.

It is a CWM (Power and Vol [+] key) menu item.

From the frying pan into the fire now, I would say.
What was previously a fixable problem may now have become unfixable. The first order of business is to get the soft-keys working again. Check for loose and unattached cables. When the keys start working again, try installing just CWM after putting the gTab into APX mode. If you have a 1.1 bootloader:
Code:
C:\> [B].\nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --download 9 recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-smb_a1002_bl1.1.img --go[/B]
Get the bootloader.bin file from one of the zip files on goodintentions's web site. You can use any version of the bootloader.bin file as long as it is for the gTablet, but, for the "--go" parameter to reboot the tablet, the bootloader and the kernel installed should match (ie. 1.1 bootloader should have a 1.1 kernel). The bootloader.bin is just executed and not written permanently anywhere.
If CWM doesn't stick, then see this post.
thanks, i"ll be dedicating a couple of hours to this, wish me luck.
Hi everyone,
I've been doing a ton of research on this topic but I cannot find anything that relates exactly to what I'm seeing. I'm trying to root my T-Mobile LG G-Slate (v909) and I have successfully used fastboot to reboot into CWM Recovery. But when I try to apply a .zip file from the internal sdcard storage, I get this message in Recovery: "E:can't mount /sdcard/". If I go to Mounts and Storage and try to mount sdcard that way, I get "Error mounting /sdcard".
I have also tried booting into APX mode, holding down both volume buttons while pressing power, and while it seems that it goes into APX mode (nothing shown on tablet screen but also cannot power on or reboot without pushing the reset button, leading me to believe it has gone into APX mode), the laptop I'm using (Linux Mint) is not recognizing it - lsusb does not show the device as being attached.
Anybody have any ideas on how I may be able to solve this, or troubleshooting tips, etc?
Thanks very much!
-Scott P.
I just bought a used HTC EVO 3d. It was at a cheap price, but purported to be working. It's not, and I'd like to see if I can do anything with it, as I'm not likely to get my $$ back.
Here are the symptoms:
When turning the device on, the white HTC screen comes up for about 3-5sec then the screen goes black and does nothing else. I have to remove and replace the battery to do ANYTHING else with it, including charge it.
I have tried to unlock the bootloader via htcdev. I successfully sent it the bin and the unlock prompt appeared on the screen. I selected yes, and pressed the Power button. The phone froze at that screen. I had to remove and replace the battery to get back into the bootloader where I saw it was still ***locked***
When attempting to use the PG86IMG (2.89), it reads it from the microsd, checks it, and returns back to the bootloader screen.
Attempting a Factory Reset from the bootloader freezes the bootloader. battery remove/replace required to do anything further
Choosing Recovery from bootloader shows HTC white screen, then green down arrow with circular arrows around it. Holding Vol Up plus Power, and I can see the following errors:
e: Can't read Misc
(I/O Error)
e: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
e: set_bootloader_message_block: emmc_read_data fail!
e: can't mount /data/data/recovery/log
e: cant open /data/data/recovery/log
e:set_bootloader_message_block:emmc_read_data fail:
I choose Reboot from Recovery and it repeats the above e: messages and turns off. A battery remove/replace is required to do anything further
Is this repairable? Thanks for any assistance.
So my tablet's model is Bluewave 8 HD + (Rockchip 33GT or something like that) and I decided to update my system through wireless update. So I downloaded it, and clicked update now. By that time I had 35% of battery left.
However, it says that it was an error. I think there were "Installation aborted" and "Error 7" and that stuff. It was on fastboot/recovery mode.
Now, I obviously couldn't select other options apart from reboot system now since my tablet doesn't have volume buttons. The buttons are on the screen. So my option is to reboot and go to the same process again— system update (Android is loading something like an object or stuff), error, and reboot.
I watched a video where clicking the reset button with the power button will move the selection down, so that it won't be reboot system now but it doesn't work for me. Whenever I do that (and as well as holding power and reset button {it is the little hole on the back where I need to poke it inside with a bent paperclip}, it just turns the screen off like a hard reset.
I can't also connect to a computer. Although my computer detects it as an "Android Phone and the Android Boot blah blah", software's doesn't detect the device.
I can't remove battery either because the back is inseparable.
Any fix? I really need to get it running well ASAP.
Thanks!
Ps: My tablet is Rooted.

Hey how did you enter recovery mode can you please tell me and are there custom recoveries available?
PS: you can scroll through the recovery mode by pressing the little button in the tiniest hole in your tablet so use a paper clip or something.
