Hello
I'm having some problems flashing the .73 firmware (spain+portugal) to my device.. Doesn't advance when flashing the partition file..
31/040/2012 16:40:54 - INFO - Flashing partition-image.sin
31/040/2012 16:40:54 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CODE="0076";ERR_DYNAMIC="failed to set ta config";
Advices and suggestions are most definitely welcome
You need unlocked bootloader.
so, can't flash a generic firmware without unlocking the bootloader? I wasn't to keen on doing it so soon.. no other way then I guess excluding the official PCC and SEUS, since it wasn't made available any update on both of them in Portugal and my device is unbraded..
You can do it with flashtool, but you also need loader.sin file inside firmware folder.
Search in developer forum, DoomLord published fantastic post all about you need !!!!!
yes, I'm using flashtool.. and i'm getting that error..
you are using my ftf and you get that error? it works fine to me with bootlaoder locked and unlocked.
yeap, keep getting that error.. always when flashing the partition file.. dunno whats wrong, anything special I should have done?

Why not try another FTF?
I saw someone saying rebooting the PC helped. Try that as well.

Search mate...read the stickies.
You dont have to relock the bootloader...just download flashtool...ftf file of stock .62 firmware...install adb drivers and flash the ftf you downloaded via flashtool...everything is available in the development section.

He meant on this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690 but you already found it as you already posted in it.
Just find .ftf and flash it with falshtool, both are even in dev sections.
I already told you in another thread, read sticky threads, get to know with tools and after that go ahead with messing with your phone.
It's amazing how people don't know about flahstool, it's practically around every corner here..

I kinda doubt that, as link is broken. It can be easily fixed, but as it is it doesn't work.
And please don't shout, you do it in most of your posts

You can make your own ftf. Repair firmware with update service, then we'll help you with thw next steps.

hm.. but update service will give him .62 not .42, right? or are you thinking on making prerooted image? hm now i got idea
@ prazadx: are you willing to do clean flash with pc companion or sony update service, then we'll instruct you how to make .62 .ftf, but it will be around 150MB after you zip it, wich you would need to upload..
then if your phone is sim-lock free your fastboot should be open, and it should accept prerooted .img.
even if your bootloader is locked i think it only matter for kernels.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong
its here mate
Just flash this with flashtool (extract using winzip or eqivalent first to get the ftf), root using flashtool, update OTR, install cmw and you are fine.

I'm gonna perform this flashing with flashtool. all i need is to downgrade my current firmware to .42, so that i can root my device. also this is a sim lock free device with a locked bootloader.
is there any other way to root without downgrading??
also, thanks mate..
There are another way to root but you need to unlock your bootloader, sorry I cant put links, but if you search right here in this Forum "unlock bootloader" you would see the options to do that.
Definitly this way is the only you have without unlockink bl. Thats all the peoplo say because I cant flash .42 on mine....flashtool stop always before 100% I will format pc...i dont know what other thing can be.
Any suggestion??

i meant fastboot mode ^^
(1) Use PC Companion and do a repair.
(2) Download the relevant firmware file and use Flashtool to flash.
I will try this right now and I will report if it worked or not ^^

You need to provide a lot more information.
If you follow the OP I gave you in the earlier post, it works. Why are you using Fastboot??? You should be using Flashmode in Flashtool.
You need to ensure you have the correct PC drivers.
Again, assuming you have read and followed the suggested linked method, provide more info about your phone state.
And which method did not work? Us your bootloader unlocked?

Unlocking is an intentional act. If you have not done it before, then it's still locked.

oh okay. Is this really relevant? Because.. I dont know but I think, that the warranty void is damaged by doing so
It's relevant because if your bootloader is unlocked, then you need to use Sony Flash Tool to flash stock firmware.
So which method failed for you? And which step failed and what's the error? You need to give us more info so that we can help you.
Hey guys im back after smashing my beloved xperia z (which i had mastered the ins and outs of) and reluctantly replacing it with a HTC ONE m7 which was the most terrible phone i have ever used in my life.... i have plonked a good bit of cash on a z2 and I AM LOVING IT
I had updated to the latest version of KK but i am hearing mixed reports that a root is not available for this version.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be fabulous.
Thank you in advance

Hello
I see you are totally green on this.
Well, im kinda green too, but I have had a lot of help from @xda and now I can manage to do some stuff with my telephone.
The first thing you have to do is BACKUP!!! This is always important.
Well, then lets get to it.
The XPERIA Z2 has a locked bootloader. This means that it cannot flash any roms, custom or other without being unlocked. When you unlock the bootloader, you delete all files on the phone, (don’t ask me how, it just does) and also deletes a partition called TA. The TA-partition contains DRM-keys, to explain that, @Envious_Data might help.
Anyway, when you have root, you can backup the TA, BEFORE you flash any custom ROM, or the ROM with ROOT. That way you will always be able to go back to scratch. Without ROOT on 4.4.4 you need to downgrade to 4.4.3, ROOT and backup the TA-partition before you even start thinking about unlocking bootloader.
(search the XDA, Google (use XDA in the end for XDA results) XDA-TV and you will find tons and tons of stuff. Once you understand some, it will come fast to you.)
I have gathered some threads here for you to read, and I hope this will work for you too.
Start off by reading this
When done, notify me.
All the best

To root the Z2 and get dual recovery on 4.4.2 follow these steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/help/how-to-root-firmware-314-t2821619
Then you need to follow the instructions in this thread, it's much easier than what it seems
