Galaxy s4 bootloader - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

OK I have question for developing if possible or someone more qualified than myself it's about the bootloader on verizon s4 I know it's locked down but I wondering if there is a way to go back to a previous version and unlock the bootloader

OK so here is what I did I tried unlocking bootloader with ez unlock for the s3 by the way this was my s4 i545 I tried this on .OK so I installed gave superuser permissions it said wasn't sure if my bootloader was unlocked but had a button to unlock it so I pressed it and it did something not sure what then it said it was successful. OK I then backed out and all my apps still worked phone still working until I powered down to try and get into download mode then phone bricked and yes hard bricked I know I can probably use jtag service for phone but my question is. If somehow it did unlock my bootloader can we use this and flashfire to maybe flash an older firmware like say the one that has an unlock able bootloader maybe

If you are unable to get into dl mode, JTAG is required. Stop messing with the bootloader when you have no clue how it works

That's the stupidest thing i've seen on this board yet. But i haven't been here long. Samsung is a team full of selfish bastards for boobytrapping these things and trying to pawn them off as Look-see this here is android it's customizeable all you want, then they screw you into taking their lollipop crapware, and then they screw you into not being able to flash your way out of it.l And here you are saying crap like this. This place i thought was here for people to learn, but i've seen quite a few pricks here already in my short time. A lot of really smart helpful people. Two types that should be kicked off this place- idiots like you and people who talk too much like me.

Short answer: no, probably not.
Longer answer: if you want an unlocked bootloader, get a Nexus. I know that sucks, but I'm tired of messing with all this locked down.... stuff. I'll get my Nexus 6 in the mail tomorrow.
Long answer: sometimes, but it's a long, dangerous trip. (Not noob friendly at all-trust me, I've been there over and over)
If you remain undaunted, figure out what exactly which bootloader you have, and do some googling.

fortunately for everyone reading this, youre wrong. this brick is fixable with the boot.img file for the bootloader you were on when ya bricked it mounted to a sd card of equal size to the internal (if the phone came with a 16 but there was a 32 option, you can also use a 32). The hardware will look for the bootloader on the internal, and if it fails, it moved to internal sd, and if THAT fails, it looks finally on usb. There are many threads about this, and i personally fixed an sch-i535 in the EXACT same way.
also, not nice to chastise people when youre as wrong as they are...... so be nice......

now this guy is on the right path. If you have a locked bootloader, the only ways to unlock it is if the carrier decides that its ok for samsung to issue a tar.md5 that can do it, a dev figures out a way around the security or if you were to connect the motherboard to a JTAG to force a previous firmware onto it that already has an unlocked bootloader. So if yours is locked, youll need to wait for an unlock or be clever enough to dink around with the coding and get it done yourself. That last option is not likely, not that im doubting your knowledge, its just that its nearly impossible to do so.

this is fact "bro". Ive walked a few people thru this process and helped them revive their "hardbricked" phones. Is it guaranteed to work on every baseband? No, there arent any guarantees in any of this stuff. And there wasnt any mention as to what baseband he was on.....
I never said that its unlockable, i was suggesting how one could go about unbricking their phone as opposed to throwing in the ocean.

Chainfire's Auto-Root update has Note 3 support

For those of you looking to root your N3, @Chainfire has updated his one-click app for N3 variants. No official support for the Verizon variant yet, but it's something to keep an eye on. No word on the bootloader as it's not anyone's hands yet.

Indeed. This method will not work with a locked bootloader. We have to wait for an exploit in order to root.

Absolutely not true. It's completely possible to root a phone with a locked bootloader. It's also possible to install a custom recovery with a locked bootloader.
I'll be working with two of the top Verizon exploit devs from day one to get this device cracked. I won't be stupid enough to promise anything, but I will say this:
1) There was a day one OTA for the Sprint Note 3. No one knows what it did yet. DO NOT TAKE ANY OTA's. As soon as I get the device in my hands and tinker a bit, I'll post how to stop OTA's.
2) We will work tirelessly the first few days to get this done. There's a whole community out there waiting to tinker.

It sounds as if within days of release we are likely to haveca method for rooting. I would be grateful for unlocking but expect to use Safestrap

Read what I said again.... And you're wrong. You can't write to the recovery image on a locked bootloader phone. That means no custom recovery. What you CAN do.... is bootstrap a recovery. Different process, different results.
If you had read my post more closely, I said that we are going to have to wait on an exploit for root capabilities. Once we have root, I'm sure a bootstrap will follow. Hopefully, exploitative rooting won't trip knox. If it doesn't, then a bootstrap recovery also shouldn't. At that point, a custom ROM (especially if hashcode creates a safestrap) should bypass the software side of knox preventing tripping from that as well.

Since you want to argue sematics and I'm just in that kind of mood, my post never stated that SafeStrap involved writing to the recovery partition; simply that it was possible to have a custom recovery run on a device with a locked bootloader.
Neither the ME7 root method nor SafeStrap triggers Knox on the S4 and I don't expect them to for the N3. Of course, all this will be unnecessary if we get the bootloader. We only have a few days to wait for the devices and then a few days more to know for sure.

You also never stated anything about a bootstrapped recovery. You posted about chainfire's root method, then argued (wrongly) against those that stated that method wasn't possible due to locked bootloader. Not one person in this thread said anything about not being able to root because of a locked bootloader, just that this particular method wasn't going to work. FFS admit that you were wrong and move on...

Silly rabbit. I did admit I was wrong and I my link was for the SafeStrap recovery for the S4. It's time YOU moved on. There's more important issues in life. I'm done with you.
Realistic chance?
I've got an unlocked Droid Bionic. I was chicken and waited till it was out of warranty though. I wanted root so I could do full backups, something I believe was not possibly without it. Like you, I'm waiting for my VzW N3 to come in. I"m not sure how to restore some of my apps, or actually some of the data saved with that. TBpro wont help unless there is root. I've purchase the Asurian extended protection, not to much fine print info on it.. people say manufacturer warranty is voided with root. what about standard extended warranties like Asurian?
Bottom line.. just a guess, and I'll not hold anyone to it. What the odds that the guru's here will unlock our Vzw N3 without tripping knox, or somehow else voiding warrranty.
I'm probably sticking with stock rom for now..but without root, not sure how to get all my app data back. Someone said EZ file could make an apk but didnt see how. Someone else suggested helium makes good app backups without root, but that doesnt work on Motorola..so it wont work for my Droid bionic

Does this work for the Verizon Note 3 ? Thanks guys.
Ok so a couple of things to note here.
First off it is about a 2% chance that you can just flash a custom recovery. There was a phone recently where the recovery partition had no verification check. With that being said it would be a big over sight. The next thing is that with Hashcode already working on a qualcomm kexec and SS I would be very supprised to see it not work, or there not be a strap method. As for root, if I'm not mistaken, and i could be, but Chainfire relies on you having an unlocked bootloader, as his image just has an init script in the recovery to boot, change ro.secure to false and then flashback the old recovery. With this being said THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH LOCKED DEVICES. If the bootloader allows for a unsigned kernel recovery to boot you can do it, or if it allows for stacksmashing you can do it, but those are two very iffy things. As for a root on this device, its more then likely going to have to come from a security tag that has been created in the linux kernel, that allows unverified code to run.
Second off I think there's something important to point out here, and I'm going to post it back to the days where there was no android. As of right now we have achieved a semi unlocked state (see loki and SS) however this is much like Musclenerd and geohotz grabbing the source code and finding injection points, the big difference was when geohotz found the holygrail, an architecture level exploit. What this translates into our world is much harder since the iPhone has one chip and we have... well Qualcomm, TI, and Samsung to name some. With this being said, and I know its easier said then done, but I think we are going to need a Qualcomm level exploit to really unlock all of these phones. We have seen in the recent couple of days that there are interrupts early on in the boot chain, see rumrunner, are not impossible. The reality is that our holy grail lies in one of two places, a leek, which in reality is more likely to happen since the other option is not always possible, or a base level exploit. The thing to keep in mind is that it too geohotz 2 years to discover the A4 hole, and he was just one man. While a community is much bigger, I urge everyone looking for exploits on new phones to realize that YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY A PHONE THAT YOU DON'T LIKE STOCK.
Hope you all are enjoying your GN3. They really are a great device with or without an unlock!!!

The reason for this is it seems there is a leek there that is allowing him to run a script that flashes over files to the FS. Look at:

This means that he most likely has some sort of System dump that is signed and has RO.secure disabled. If you look there's actually a full 2.2 GB image that you have to download and flash, meaning that it most likely has something that allows for root, and not actually an exploit.

[Q] LG G2 back to amazon?

Hey,
I've bought a G2. After I rooted it, I noticed the "rooted"-status in the downloadmode. I've read about it. I now fear that I can not exchange the unit if something is broken. The warranty is void?
So i tought about to send it back to amazon (14 days time to send it back) and get another phone?! Do you think this is ja good idea or stupid?
Thx for help.
I've never rooted a phone before but I read that when you successfully unroot the LG G2, the 'rooted' status goes away.
From what I've read, G2's bootloader is unlocked, so you can root and unroot withou LG knowing it. But take a look to the thread "return to stock".

The problem is, that I can no longer unroot the device, when it should be broken. That is the real problem...
edit:
whit "another phone" i mean not a G2. i think i will buy the Sony Z1 or Htc One
I have reconsigned (returned?... send back... you know what i mean :silly: ) the device. I think I'll buy a Sony. So I have no problems with the root.

hope you don't mess the sony up! the g2 is a far better phone than the sony - if you root, you can unroot and the "rooted" returns to" unrooted" better luck next time
it sounds to me like you have messed your phone up and now you want to send it back and you expect a new one. if I was the person at the other end I would have voided your warranty and if you cant sort it im afraid you should not be flashing anything until you know what you are doing there are far too many people doing this and then returning their phones as "faulty" when basically they messed it up what happens when you do the same to the sony -will u just send that back as well- no wonder manufactures are making it more difficult for people to root in the first place please don't keep doing this as it just makes it worse for the rest of us,who flash stuff and know what they are doing--rant over, hope you take a little time to learn what you are doing in future.

no haha. i think you don't understand me (or i'm to dopy to write understandable english....). the device is not broken. i was thinking about, what could happen, if the device is broken and rooted. i know how to root or flash some rom. that is not my problem. the problem is, that LG has a rootchecker and Sony literally allows the root and flashing roms without unlocking the bootloader. this is why i want to send the G2 back and buy a new Z1.

To my understanding most of the newer devices have indicators buried in the settings to list rooted.
As long as the device powers on you can unroot the LG with the return to stock method and it will show unrooted. You just boot into download mode, and run the tools listed.
If it doesn't power on... then does it matter? It wouldn't be viewable under standard warranty anyways.
Enjoy the other phone if that's your choice, but you made a poor one IMHO.

I don't believe so.
I have the ATT version, and I nuked it with a bad flash and a brain fart that caused me to forget to backup first in TWRP.
I couldn't get anything on the device so I did the restore to stock using the flash tool, and when I was done I'm pretty sure it showed green until I rooted it again.

Ah mine showed rooted but I tried the back to stock for all variants and it didn't work (worked the first time not the second) so then I did the vzw only back to stock and that worked but still showed rooted in download mode.
After the unroot yesterday the "rooted" in the downloadmode was gone too

I used twrp 2.7.0.0-gardaltetmo.tar. The flashed a supers u update -v 1.94.zip, then I wanted to know how to unroot incase I needed to know and used SGH-t399-stock-MJA.ZIP

Don't use T-Mobiles firmware on your MetroPCS phone.
This is what you need to do.
And for the love of all that is good in this world, next time DO A BACKUP before flashing things. You installed TWRP, which gives you the ability to make a complete backup of your system exactly as it is at that point in time. If you had done a back-up before you screwed up your phone, it would have taken you but a few minutes to unscrew it.
I apologize for being harsh, but it seems to me like you really need to read and research a lot more. I always (well, usually...almost bricked my tablet the other day) read everything I can find about something potentially risky before doing it. Let this be a learning experience for you. Read as much as you can, understand what it is you are actually doing rather than just following some guide, and if you don't understand, just ask. I and most of us here would rather you asked a noobish question instead of going blindly ahead and screwing your phone up. Playing around with root and recovery and flashing without understanding it is like thinking you can perform open heart surgery with a meat cleaver because you've seen every episode of ER, Scrubs, and Grey's Anatomy.
thanks

Hm. I didn't think about that. I think you might need to get an SD card. Go on Amazon or eBay and pick one up. An 8GB one can be had for literally a few bucks, but a 64GB class 10 one for $35 is an awesome thing too.
Ok
Ok, and with the back up download how do I get the in twrp. Should I put it in a zip file or leave it how it is
ok im a retard

You can always use Samsung Kies 3 to flash your phone back to stock. You need your serial number though, and for some reason it is not printed on the back of the device(at least for me). A call to tech support should get that sorted anyway.
Alternatively, you can do this with Odin to a very similar effect. Search Google for something like "T399NUVUANK3 tar" to get the file you need, my personal backup is corrupt so I can't share.

Ugh... I own a t399n and I'm doing some real development on it. . I've made a stock odex and deodexed rooted zip files for the t399n and haven't posted them yet. . If you're in a bad way still hit me up and I'll have you up and running in no time. Fun things coming for metro users. Who says you have to pay for a high end device to have a high end device? He he he....
Do you have a backup I bicked my samsung galaxy light metropcs then I unbricked it by restoring a backup for the samsung galaxy light that I found online. Search fresh backup for samsung galaxy light sgh t399n.

I just love getting an email alert at 4am because someone quoted me to post absolutely nothing of substance.
It's relevant because IT WAS A YEAR AGO! I don't remember why I was so cranky that day. I did apologize to him for it. Did you notice that I also still did my best to help him? Do you have a solution to his problem? Does he even still have this phone, given that it was a year ago? If you want to fixate on my posts, fixate on the hundreds of times I've been thanked for helping others, especially going above and beyond helping people find the perfect device for them. I'm not here to be grumpy, I'm here to help people, and get help when needed. Why are you here? To pester me? Look, I respect my elders, and you're clearly older, but at the same time don't presume to talk down to me. Try reflecting on yourself and your motive in making a useless post, bumping a thread dead for several months (a severe breach of netiquette), purely to insult another member.
Come to think of it, my email alert wasn't because I was quoted (I have that feature turned off). I got the alert because I'm still subscribed to this thread, having done so in case there were new posts that might enable me to help the OP. I suppose I should unsubscribe, giving the fact that nobody has posted anything of use or substance in 7 months or so.

[Q] rent a center locked galaxy s5

i bought S5 for tmobile from ebay and after 7 month i got blocked by Rent a Center
front screen is locked and says locked by Rent a center
can not use it or bypass anymore..
out of ebay and paypal guarantee ....seller is not helping either..
anyone has similar problem or work around
i did hard reset and still after setting up wifi and all info...front screen comes with rent a screen lock
Sounds like someone sold it before paying it off. Not alot you can do really except maybe get ahold of rent a center and explain what happened.

They can Block the IMEI. Any Phone disturber can do it. They just have to go through the right channels. I am not saying they will but they could if they wanted to.

Tried doing everything legally but got screwed at all place.... ebay...paypal....ebay seller....rent a center......

Same thing just happened today with my S5. Can anyone get me info on how to unlock. Rent a Center is no help and quite rude about it. They shouldn't be selling phones that you have no way of knowing they come from them.
This literally just happened to me today in the afternoon, phone locked up after 4 months of great use. I'm not sure how to "flash it to cyanogenmod 12" and I'm worried about bricking the phone. Can anyone spell it out in a little more detail how to do this?

PLEASE READ ALL THE STEPS FIRST and ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE NOT CLEAR.
Download Odin3_v3.09
Download TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice.
Download Cyanogenmod 12 for G900T : https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=klte -> Put this on your external microSD card. You can use internal storage as well.
Download GApps for Cyanogenmod 12 http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps#Downloads -> Put this on your external microSD card. You can use internal storage as well.
Run Odin and flash TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice to your phone. This will set KNOX security flag to 1, meaning no more warranty for the phone if you send it to Samsung to repair something else. Follow this http://www.droidviews.com/install-twrp-recovery-samsung-galaxy-s5/ or watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuAT7GwSAic
Boot into custom recovery ( with phone off, press and hold Volume Up and Home keys while turning on the phone ) and Wipe -> Advanced wipe -> Wipe System, Dalvik, Cache and Data. This will erase everything on the phone. No need to do ROM back up as we have Stock ROM available for this model to go back if needed. Your choice.
Flash/Install Cyanogenmod 12 zip file and then GApps zip file
Reboot
Let your phone sit for 10 minutes.
Cyanogenmod 12 is the only way to use the phone without the "Rent-A-Center" screen at this point. I tried multiple Stock ROM from 4.4.2 to 5.0 But phone still showed the lock screen after initial setup.
Same thing happened to a client today. RAC Just started this?
First I woukd lie to express just how outraged I am at this new policy. As if worrying and checking ESN's to ensure a phone is not active or stolen or if there is an iCloud account on an iPhone now we have to worry about them being "rented"? And there is no DB for this, you would have to call every Rent to Own shop in the ares to verify it's safe to buy.
But enough ranting, I too have heard that flashing Cyanogenmod works to remove this lock. I mean the losers who rent a phone and then sell it are scum. You check the ESN and it's clean, 6 months later you get RAC ads and pin locks? No way...
So, the method you've outlined has no steps for rooting or unlocking the bootloader. Does this work simply because it's being flashed via Odin as opposed to the usual way of rooting and reflashing.
I called RAC and of course they are not sillng to help. My business didn't even have a shop when I purchased that S5, and now months later the customer I sold it to comes back to me with this. I understand why in a way but what does she expect me to do? I've never heard of or seen this RAC bs until now.
This phone jas already been factory unlocked which can be done only by netting contractual obligations. Besides, how is it fair to flag the device? How could anyone possibly have known it was a "rental". Who the heck rents phones? Seems like abwhite trashy thing to do. The selling of said item makes it that even more so. Leaving the innocent people to deal with the hassle.
Someone please tell me there is a way around this, this is THE mobile development site. Not "A" site...THE site. This device has unwanted bloatware on it basically. So let's remove it. Again, how does one flash a custom recovery and Rom with no root access or an unlocked bootloader?
Thanks in advance!

Actually, nevermind, this answered all of my questions. Have not tried it yet, but I'm confident... I'll let you all know of it works. Cheers!

Sucks for people like me who buy a phone only to find out six months later it was stolen from rent a center. Then get treated the way I am getting treated by them. I can not believe that there is nothing on the phones that lets you know it is from them. Thought I was just buying an unlocked phone. If anyone in Illinois could help me get this unlocked with cyanogenmod I would appreciate it.
Please help

Root for the Verizon V10 possible(Not ROM installation, just root)?

Hi guys,
Just wondering if I can get root without unlocking the bootloader. Seems that I;m hearing that this isn't possible, which makes no sense. I know Verizon is Verizon when it comes to locking things down(They were even blocking free games on dumbphones back in the day so that you would have to buy them, even when the manufacturer included them for free), but it seems that gaining root access is completely different than flashing a new ROM. Am I correct here?
Also, would towelroot work for this phone? I know it's a nice simple solution, but I believe their claim is for phones manufactured before Jun '14.
Lastly, would a solution like Safestrap work here? It's what I used on my last phone (S3), when Verizon locked THAT down.
I know it is a battle fighting Verizon on this, and I know it takes time, I was just wondering if I am reading this right, or if I could root, but run the standard ROM, just with the extra access... Really, the phone is working so well that I just want better control for things like deleting/disabling/freezing stock apps and such.
Thanks for any help!! Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, seemed appropriate.
I am a user of H961N and it is also cannot be rooted.
I think root injection may be the answer.

This is the related thread in G4 forum. I have tried this method. However, I have encountered a problem shown below during the process:
Code:
D:\V10\LG_Root>Send_Command.exe \\.\COM8
Author : blog.lvu.kr
SPECIAL COMMAND : ENTER, LEAVE
#dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p51 of=/data/media/0/system.img
FAIL
#ls
FAIL
#
It keeps returning "FAIL" to me no matter what command i enter. I have asked about this in the thread in G4 forum but no one answer me, sad
I think that you may try it and it may work, as the above problem may not due to the phone but my computer.
Where did you get you system.img file? if you are using the one from the g4 it will not work. The file needs to be rooted for your device and then injected.

I'm curious, the 'Fail' just means that it fails to work, right? Phone works fine after that and all? No bricking or need to restore? If so, that's a safe risk. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good luck with this but I have a feeling that unless someone has an exploit laying around, you'll need an unlocked bootloader.

you need an unlocked bootloader
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-lg-v10/
and adb & fastboot tool, not root
To install a custom recovery
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-v10-h901/
That's how I usually would do it, the way it's described in the articles, since I still have to get my v10 from Far East can't test it.
And don't worry, I don't feel like you are bashing.
Life's too short to take anything too personal.

I think if LG release a genuine ROM file, we could replace recovery parition with rooted one and flash it to our phone, that the only way open but LG hasn't released any ROM file yet.

Sorry, wasn't sure, as I was asking about development.... Sometimes this is like a scene form the movie Big Trouble... At the airport, "Arrivals or Departures"? "Well, we're arriving at the airport, but then we're going to be departing.".
