Miravision color problems - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the 5.0.2 Hermes AOSP, and I have noticed that some colours sometimes(expecially black) are turned into gray by miravision. I have tried editing the buld.prop to disable it, but it doesn't work(the option disappears but it continues to turn black into gray). Is there anything that I can do to disable it?

I have tried every settings but it stills keep doing that

Actually I also noticed this on stock rom... In some videos black looks kinda grayish, I always thought it was a result of the LCD technology... back-lit and contrast ratios.
I

Hey I know its been 3,5 years since that but does anybody know how to fix this? I have the biggest problem with netflix, black background looks like gray and messenger, all colors looks strange.

Whites not as vibrant as before

Hey all so recently my galaxy s2 whites don't have the vibe/brightness they had before. Using the internet or gmail for example is where i am noticing the problem. Things I did before I started noticing this issue was clear ram/do a backup using cwm and let my friend use the phone. Any ideas what might cause this? and yes i have brightness set to 100%
Which ROM are you using? If you are on a stock ROM go to Display settings and there will be a Background Effect option, changing this may help you. Might sound stupid but check your brightness while you are in the Display settings. Also, I'm not sure on this but I think there is a specific brightness setting in the browser options make sure you have a look around there too.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am on the stock rom with brightness maxed/background effect on standard browser brightness is also 100%.
The white text/app icons in the homescreen/application drawer have the bright whites i want but when i actually go into an app they aren't as bright as before.
Hmm update when I have the internet browser open and click the search bar to type in an address the screen gets really bright as it was before but when i close the search window that brings up the keypad it goes back to the previous dim white/colors. pressing the menu button in an internet browser also has the same effect
I think I fixed it there was an option in display called auto adjust screen power that was checked. Does clearing the ram reset all settings back to factory settings or something?

Yellow tint on screen of new Neo V

Well I bought a new Neo v, its almost a month.
What I have noticed is the default color temperature is set slightly warmer. If you compare the phone to any other screen you will see white appears to have slight tint of yellow.
I am not the only one who has reported this, here is a link
http://communities-origin.sonyericsson.com/message/143398
Is there any way I can fix this? As a designer this is irritating.
Cheers.
You can try the disable auto brightness app [root], so you set the brightness higher. Black looks much better then. Maybe this works too, I haven't tried it.
I think it's a choice Sony made, to make the colours more natural, but less saturated.

Thanks,
Brightness had no effect but the app you attached really helped
Wondering if there is any permanent solution to this, app has an icon on top notification bar which is not very desirable

It was the first app I found, there will be at least 2 other apps that can do this. Also beware: Some of these screen filter apps have the effect that you can't click install when opening an apk file. Disable the app and it should work. Had a hard time with that
Is there a firmware solution to this problem?
Is it more of a screen defect or a firmware color temperature setting? If later then can I make changes to make it more natural. Yellow is kind of getting irritating now!
Those filters are no good for permanent solution.
i had your problem earlier when i bought my Neo,its like burn in my eyes...brightness already set to maximum but its not so maximum....not like what i want...so i change to custom rom,and there you go...brightness control just 1/2 of bar, enough for me and yellow, red, green colour not so burning...of coz its still there, its bravia engine and its acceptable...
sory for my english
Hmm well I compared my phone to another Neo V which was bought from India. Even at lower brightness White looks white but for me it looks little yellow.
As somebody mentioned its because my phone was manufactured for other region where they set the color temp little warmer. If there was a way to set to Neutral nothing like it
I upgraded to ICS thinking it will fix or reset it. But in vain.
In my opinion, it seems to be a hardware problem, I do not have to do with the software. Hopefully you fix ...

[Q] Display changing colors?

I bought another s4 earlier this week, and noticed a strange occurrence. Every so often, on different apps, the screen will go to more of a red tone. I found by adjusting the brightness, I can make it go to this red tone. Of course, when I try to screen shot the red, it shows up normal in the gallery. Its kinda like the blue drops out of the color wheel and red gets boosted. Is the display bad or is there some weird setting that got messed with?

Do you have Settings > Display > Screen mode > Adapt Display checked? I believe stock is Standard. There's also Settings > Display > Auto adjust screen tone. Try playing with those and see if this effect you're seeing goes away.
Yeah, I tried playing with those first thing, but didn't seem to help. I could still force the red tone by adjusting brightness

Purchased new or used? If new, I might consider returning for a replacement.
Used, from cl. It only does it if I move the brightness, or set it to automatic. I dont know if its hardware or software related, so ive tried running the me7 deodexed rom (still on mdk) and the same issue is there.

LED notifier

Just bought (and about to return) the HTC One M8 because the LED notifier/blinker is a shocker. It is very small, only has Red, Green and Blue (!!) and no apps like LED notifier can manipulate it.
My old S3 was great and had a lovely big LED blinker but am considering the Z2 as I fancy a change. Can someone please reassure me that the LED is big, has all the colours and will work with an LED app?
Thanks.
Or maybe an S5...
I'm not sure but I think the Z2's LED can only display green and red, I hope I'm wrong

I have orange and blue also but have not figured out a way to assign a specific color to a specific type of notifications (like blue for SMS, Orange for email...).

You should be able to change it with an app. Try out Light Manager? Some of the changes require root, but not all.
I've tested out mine via the test menu. It's able to output R,G,B there. It would make sense that it is possible for the phone to mix those colours to display other colours (like the orange and purple that some system events use) but I've been unable to get it to show using LightFlow.
I see a lot more colors than R,G,B on my z1 and zl (purple from yahoo mail, white from gmail for example). So there is no reason z2 notifier will output only those three colors
Could someone be so kind as to test it with LED Manager or Light Flow? It's really simple. Select the app, the colour and then test it. Appreciate any that could this. About to buy but need all the colours!

There's blue for sure. Seen in many videos. There's no yellow?
But yes, its quite large. Another thing I love about the Z2. Its the second largest in current flagships after Oppo Find 7.

There are LEDs for each of the 3 primary colours (red, green and blue) and those are mixed in different intensities to show other colours. :cyclops:

Really appreciate you doing this. I'm afraid that rules the Z2 out for me then which is a shame as I fancied a change. S5 it is then.
Using WhatsApp, the LED was able to display the notifications in different colours. So far I have used yellow, green, cyan and purple.

CYAN <3 Sorry, but I just had to do this.
The Z2 indeed can display other colours etc like Pink/Yellow/Orange/Lime etc etc..
Tested using Lightflow.
Only down is, you can't use it together with the "Extended Standby" feature with STAMINA mode as that will disable any fiddling with the LED notification.
Yup.. I'm using LightFlow. Works well.. I got blue for SMSes, red for miss calls, green for whatsapp and purple for viber.
The LED is nice and big enough for viewing... however it sits below the level of the front glass, right where the top speaker slit is. If your phone faces you parallelly, you'll be seeing the LED well enough. If you have your phone lying on your desk in front of you and when you are looking at the face of the phone at an angle, you might just miss it.
Cheers.
i thought the sony default light will overwrites the lightflow?
Hmm.. perhaps since LightFlow is turned ON under accessibility settings, it works?
i just tick every box in the settings... it seems to work.
I will be using the SCR10 style case when I get the phone - looking at the front flap of the case and the phone, I am guessing the LED notification should be visible with the case closed?

Notification LED or always on display?

I'm coming from a v20 with the second screen that showed me the icons of mail/snapchat etc so I didn't have to unlock the phone. Does the v60 have a notification LED or always on part that does the same thing?
The v60 does not have a notification light but it does have an always on display which shows the icons of the notifications like the v20 did. There's also a setting called brief notifications that shows you what the notification says from the always on screen display.

Is that always on display on the single screen only? Or do I need both screens plugged in for that?

The AOD is on the primary phone and configurable via Settings. It works more or less the same with or without the dual-screen attachment.
If you're using the dual-screen accessory, the second screen comes built into a case that folds open to display both screens side-by-side.
If you have the case closed, you can't see either screen.
But the outside of this case has something very similar to that old LG "second screen" that showed notifications.
It's black/white only, is like "two rows" high, and is fairly low resolution, but it gets the job done when the thing is folded closed.
IIRC, it shows the time/date and icons for any notifications that have come in, at which point you'd open up the case to actually access your notifications and deal with them.
Just wanted to add that I found a setting for the phone's AOD that causes a blow glow to pulse all the way around the extreme edges of the display for a few seconds after a notification comes in.
You can turn on which apps' notifications will cause this pulse, and there's an All Apps global on/off switch as well.
It's not quite an LED notification, but it's a nice little addition.
Edit - It's under Lock Screen Notifications -> Brief Notifications -> Sidelight

THAT'S where it was... I turned it on a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't remember where I found this setting. It was only lighting up for text messages for me (didn't turn it on for all apps, or any other individual apps), so I was looking for it on my wife's phone in case she wanted me to turn it on for her, but couldn't find it in the messaging settings. Thanks!

Edit - Video timestamp to show it in action. Watch the whole video if you want to see the steps to enable the Sidelight feature. I skipped that part in my link.

The guy talks about it in the video you linked. Then under the comments about the video, someone references the app, but it's a little vague which one he means.

Yes, in that video that is rather pretty. The orange is just ick. I'm t-mobile, but I'm also wondering, is your phone blue or white? Can anyone on Tmo chime in with colors? Roommate has the blue Tmo, so I can look into his.

AT&T and "Classy Blue," though I'd say there's nothing classy about AT&T.
Mine was the yellowish color when I just had it enabled for Messaging. After enabling it for GMail, Facebook, and Facebook Messenger, I've noticed it blue for those. It's still the yellowish color for Messaging, though.

Based on install counts, overall reviews, and last updated dates, I've narrowed it down to two apps:
Always On Edge - Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
True Edge | Edge Lighting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newgen.edgelighting
I guess I'll give both a whirl and report back with my impressions.
I like LG's version well enough, but more customization options is always OK in my book.

Quoting myself.
I tried both, and even paid the one-time IAPs to unlock all options for both apps.
Frankly, I don't like either. Unlike LG's built-in Sidelight, I couldn't get either of these two edge lighting apps to play nice with either the stock AOD (which I prefer to their clunky versions), my lockscreen live wallpaper, or both. On top of that, even after taking pictures of LG's blue Sidelight colors and using a color picker to determine their hex values and inputting them into those two replacement apps, I couldn't quite duplicate the neat glow LG's got going on. No amount of futzing about netted me results nearly as pretty as LG's Sidelight. And I tried every possible feature, slider, and toggle in both apps.
That, in combination with having to settle for jankier AODs that don't work with my preferred live wallpapers completely turned me off from both apps, and I wound up uninstalling them and sticking with LG's non-customizeable Sidelight feature. Oh well. Cost me a few buck and around 1.5 hours of tinkering, and it just wound up being a waste of time and money.
If I had to recommend one, I'd say that Always on Edge - Edge Lighting is the preferred app. It appears to have more customizations and options available than True Edge | Edge Lighting. That does mean that you'd need to tinker with the app more to get the results you want, but it does afford you a larger variety of customizations. FWIW, both let you mess around with notch presets and then further tweak height, width, and radius curves in order to get the edge lighting to properly wrap around the LG V60's cut-out. You can also simply ignore the notch options and have the wrap-around edge lighting "cut off" where the notch starts and resume where it ends, if you don't feel like messing with it that much. It can be a bit finicky. Again, I found that Always On Edge handles variable notch sizes better than True Edge.
Thanks for the detailed testing.
