Zte warp elite n9518 root NOT COMPLETE - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been all over the forum and cannot find any ACTUAL information on rooting the ZTE Warp Elite N9518 for boost. The one thread that says "COMPLETE" directs only to the root any phone area. None of those methods say they are compatible with this phone... please help. Been reading for days... last thing I want to do is brick my phone.... I was directed here by XDA assist

I concur, I can not afford to brick this beautiful phone. I saw a twitter post claiming that some guys root app can do it for our phones if they're 5.0.2 Android like oohokay they come with 5.1 mister click bait scammer... Tho getting into recovery and activating developers settings is easy enough on the warp elite.

Has anyone with knowledge of how to root phone made any progress with this particular model? Or do we have any skilled members willing to give it a shot? I'd love to get this rooted to clean it of all the bloatware

Run kingoroot, then uninstall the kingoroot superuser apk then you will have temp root until you reboot. I have made a little progress over at the Android forums. I have got boot and recovery images using Flashify.apk and got the /system though I think it is not a flashable image. I can't get nandroid online backups to work though. I'm still a boob at this.

I would be willing to put $10 towards paying the developer who can come up with a root for the warp elite 9518.
I know its pocket change but I'm hoping I can start a list of people who are willing to pledge some money, 5$-10$, I would keep a forum post with the user names of the people willing to donate, and the total amount available for payment upon a successful root. Offline I will keep that same list but include their first name and amount they would be able to pitch in. All money will stay in the donators possesion, until an agreement is made regarding dev payment
Hopefully a capable dev sees this as something they could do if they were compensated for their time. I just need to run this by the admin here to see if this is something I can do that wouldn't violate any rules.

I have successfully rooted the N9518. i used the kingo root for windows. I did a hard reset of the phone and after the reset went into settings where it said pc connections i the enabled the debugging and had the connection setting on the one that said install drivers. It says that setting is used when first connected to a computer or when the drivers were unavailable. I ran the kingo root, connected the device, waited for it to show the model then clicked the root. Somewhere between five to ten minutes later it said root succeeded. I verified the root using two different root checkers and i have pictures of the verified root. I will do another post with the pictures as soon as i figure out how to post them on here.

Hello I need to correct the post I made. The root access that I had for the N9518 was just a temporary root access. still figuring out how to make it permanent.

I just ordered the phone it will be here Saturday, if I can get temp root I think I have a pretty good idea how to make it permanent, I was the first and only one to find permanent root on the LG Stylo 2 and my method is pretty universal.

Im not a dev either just a dude who loves messing with android. As soon as I get it Saturday I'll start messing with it and if my technique works I'll post a guide. Also all I can say is never update until you get root most of the time security patches are patches for root vulnerabilities and we want those root vulnerabilities, so if you havent updated good, if you have well try not to update any more if it pops up.

the method does not work

So the method that you recommended did not work for me the only way I had gotten the temp root was the kingo root over usb connection it gave me a temporary root then I tried to follow the guide that you sent me the link to when I did that and rebooted the system the root was removed. So I went and removed the kingo root and went and installed the king root tried to root it that way it failed twice and then on the third attempt to root it soft bricked my phone and I had to factory reset my phone. So no root yet, maybe you will have better luck. I shall continue to look for a way to make the root permanent, and will post anything I find. There has to be a way, there just has to. Good luck

I know what might of went wrong I just did my technique on my 3rd completely different device today, ran to a little problem and fixed it I'm going to wait until I get my phone Saturday so I can physically do it then I'll re write a tutorial on how I did it if I succeed I'm very confident it will work

i just got the phone, been messing around with it didnt realize it was so locked down I only have been able to get temp root once then lost it from a mandatory reboot, gonna keep at it hopefully soon anyone will find root.

Tried KingRoot, made it to 27% on 2nd try but had to factory reset twice.

[Q] Searched many places for root for kyocera torque but no results

Searched google with lots of different keywords and can't find anything that will successfully root this phone. It's running 4.0.4 IMM76I ics with software version 1.006SP, hardware 010B. The kernel version, if it helps, is:

I've tried superoneclick, multiroot (title is root many.... on xda mainly for sony but some kyocera), and xfactor exploit. I know most of them aren't for this specific phone. In the root many and xfactor, it does manage to call up the restore screen but the phone closes the restore a few seconds after opening it and the exploit fails every time. I've been checking every day for new news for this phone but haven't found anything yet. I assume it is because it isn't a popular phone as to why there is not a guide. I assume that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back doors for the other kyocera phones on this model. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome.

the old instructions to use motochopper to get root isn't necessary anymore.

So I finally got around to replacing my old EVO with something a little more durable, but the sprint bloatware is killing me. Would someone with the proper skill sets please figure out how to root the Torque? I know at the very least I would be extremely grateful.

I to have tried other rooting methods (poot, z4root) because they work on other kyocera phones with no luck. But I don't believe that kyocera/sprint buttoned up the back door. Where there is a will there is a way. I'm w willing to try any other methods that anyone would be willing to share . The other commits say this is not a popular device I disagree with that it will sell in good numbers. We just need to find someone willing to root it and build us some roms. Thats why my hat is off to all the people who put forth an effort on the HTC EVO, HTC Hero, Samsung Epic, S2 and S3. If you or anyone have any ideas who we need to talk to, a root method, or anything let me know I will try anything to get rid of bloat and root this device. If I knew how to write a script to do it myself it would be done but I'm no where near the talent level of the ones who do. I'm just a flasher

I've tried to I'm blue in the face!!! I tried to reach out to others who have helped me in rooting and in roms with no luck whatsoever because of devices like the HTC ONE and the new S4 around the corner they must have their hands full. I've also tried the two methods that you did as well as SRS One Click. I just wish I know how to do this and I would do it myself. Please someone out there HELP US!!!!!!:cyclops: Teach me!!
My buddy had gotten this phone and I wanted to help him get rid of the bloat ware. I have tried everything but the one click root program. I wanted to try like I first did on the original evo 4g. Someone, I'm assuming a dev had put in how to basically on adb put the phone into a suspend type mode and were able to root the phone then. I looked all over for the code, but couldn't find it. I'll willing to try anything too. I'm not a dev, but I'm not a noob. I do know a little with the android coding, so anything I can do to help...
A lot of rambling too

I actually just saw this phone in the store the other day and am considering purchasing it.
Don't actually need Direct Connect, tho.... so I'm wondering how easy it would be to use or even make a custom rom with 4.2, and perhaps the EcoBoost and Maximizer (sp?) battery saving apps that come stock with the Sprint firmware.
I'm guessing that if the phone has been rooted, the Roms will come??
i tried the motochop on the torque, and it said successful and everything, changed the acces to auto allow, and it still isnt working. Superuser is there, but wont work. did you do anything special or anything else?

The next question is which release version are you guys using when attempting root with motochopper? It is now at 1.007SP. I attempted a few different methods while on 1.006SP without success. Personally, I only would like root for general reasons (Titanium Backup to efficiently backup/restore/transfer apps between wipes and possibly tethering) along with reprogramming/disabling the DC button (though 1.007SP has alleviated this a bit by cancelling its ability to wake the device while disabled in the system settings; 1.006SP still allowed DC button device wake even while disabled). If this were my primary phone, I would probably commit more time to it, but maybe I will after a little more feedback from yall currently working on it.

I would hold up on purchasing if you think what has been posted thus far is automatically going to lead to custom ROMs to the extent of what you are saying...at all. First off, this phone is currently running 4.0.4 ICS and not even 4.1 JB (so jumping to 4.2 on a phone without wide usership and development would require you to step in, crack your knuckles and figure some stuff out). And, second, there would, likely, have to be some serious porting & dev efforts to fathom anything you just said after seeing a single report of unstable root access. To put things in perspective, this 2-page thread is just about the only public forum activity pertaining the the Torque's root...pretty dismal.
So root for this phone actually is working on the stock rom, and allows bloatware removal & root roms?
I could care less about custom roms, kernels, whatnot. I'm still running an Evo 4G, and would love to be able to pick up this phone for the DC, so that I don't have to carry two cell phones everywhere (My Evo, and the work-issued Direct Connect phone).
I don't care about the latest & greatest (as evidenced by my "ancient" Evo), so this phone would be an upgrade over what I have... assuming that root is available so that I can remove bloatware, add Titanium Backup, Quick Boot, SetCPU, Wireless Tether, and Roam Control.
On my Evo, I run the stock rooted ROM, with the bloatware stripped out & the above Root apps... that's the only reason I need root.

Hi guys it was 1.0006. SP that I rooted at first I had the same problems with superuser at first. So I wiped my phone and used motochop again. Still I had no su ability. So I tried super one click to see if I could get it to fix the root and it said I had root access. Then I went back into superuser and granted permission to then updated the permission and busybox. It worked for me until I had 1.007 SP pushed to my phone and superuser stopped working I'm trying to find a fix and I will. My phone still shows root access I just think we need a superuser that work right.

I have one on each, but I will try on my 1.006SP one first and see what I get. I have to hold off on my updated 1.007SP one because I have to take it in for some hardware issues (no camera focus and one of the faux screws fell out on the front). About to check it out with motochopper on 1.006 (but I think I have already). I will report back.
Update:
So, on 1.006SP, after motochopper, I have shell root using ADB on my PC but no apps recognize root access on the device itself. I am tempted to just allow 1.007SP to install and try from there. It is going to get to a point where everyone has the OTA installed anyway...if that becomes the case, it will be pointless to have root attained on an older version (unless a downgrade option becomes available).
Update 2:
Same deal with 1.007SP.

[Q] ZTE Midnight root?

So I have the ZTE Midnight (Z768G) and I am getting the classic "low on space" message and I know what rooting is as I rooted my Nook Tablet 4GB but I can't seem to find a root that will work for my phone so that I can set my default storage to the SD card and I was wondering if someone could help me. Or if there's alternatives to rooting it that would also be nice. I installed an app that can erase cache but it's not doing much for me right now. I can't even update my apps. Any help would be nice!!

It worked but now I can't move the apps over to the SD card like I wanted to. I tried doing the /System app mover method of turning system apps to normal apps and uninstalling but it's still giving me that message.

What drivers did you use to get Kingo Android Root to work? Nothing seems to be working for me...
ZTE Midnight!!!! No luck
I am having no luck with root.... tried all
How?

went to kingoapp.com and downloaded and ran the app against my ZTE Midnight from Net10 - I now have root access. I did not buy the phone to make calls - the $20 price tag for an Android test platform was too goo to pass up.

How did you get kingoroot to run? I get stuck at "Installing Drivers" forever. I've tried installing my own drivers, both the included ones from the phone's internal memory as well as the latest ones from ZTE, and the ZTE ones that kingoroot points me to in the troubleshooting section. I'm running Win8 and I've also tried disabling Signed Driver Verification. What is the magic spell to get this thing to run? I agree $20 is *****in if I can just get the thing rooted so I can install more than 1 app and *cough* turn on tethering

Seriously, I left it sitting all night to see if it would ever start to download. The help section says that it's stalling on Driver Verification and to disablle it, but it makes no difference. I have trouble believing that's the problem since it won't even download the driver, how can it even try to "verify" it. Besides that fact that I have the latest driver from the manufacturer and have tried the one from the link in their help pages to the ZTE driver. Is there no command line option to skip the driver installation and just see if it will run? I know i can access it by adb. OR does anyone know of a method to root this thing manually? I'm not skeered to use terminal and dox boxes, but I'd rather not do it blind. THis phone is nearly useless to me without root especialy since i just figured out why I get no signal... It's a damn T-Mobile based device. It's doesn't say this ANYWHERE on the box or documentation. I should have researched it first as I usually do, but I got too excited by the idea of a droid for $20. I thought, at least if it doesn't work, it will be a toy for my 5 year old... But even he will want to install more than 1 teeny app LOL
With a custom 4.2 or later rom and good signal this thing would be.... OK... not great, but not too bad either. It isn't all that slow as I was afraid. Kit Kat might be great on it
Will a root method from any other ZTE devices work for the Midnight? I read that it might possible be the same as the ZTE Concord from t-mobile, but I tried a root method for it using a jcase update.zip, but it did not work. I'm at a loss. I've never had this much trouble getting one rooted. Apparently this device just wasn't popular enough

I tried the root method for the T-Mobile branded version of the phone... I have the NET10 GSM version.. Nothing seems to be working either. Not even Gingerbreak... This is a freaking NET10 phone... And Kit Kat would be nice on this phone! 800 mhz processor and 512MB RAM so it should work well.
I just bought this phone too. It comes with CM 2.3.7 installed on it. I"m wanting a KitKat ROM. I'm hoping my by Wambo_Bomb will compile a version of his BlakAndroid for the ZTE Midnight. I've asked him to do so. He said he needs the modules an Kernel info to do it. If he does come through for me, I will share with everyone.
ROOTED!!!
I just wanted to come back and let you guys know: After A few days and much frustration, I tried Kingoapp.com again and it worked flawlessly on the first try, so now I'm rooted and able to run root apps on my rooted stock rom. Now does anyone know of a way to get a custom recovery on this phone? And if there are any cutom roms available yet? If your friend does compile a rom, I'd be happy to help with testing.

Try Kingoapp again. The server issue appears to be fixed. I did try from a fresh clean install of Win8, but I had tried that before and it stalled at installing drivers, so maybe had nothing to do with it. I simply connected the phone, installed drivers from internal memory (appeared as "CD-ROM in Win8), enabled development mode, then ran Kingoapp and it worked flawlessly. Good luck. The more people we get rooted, the better the custom ROMS will become I hope
GOT ROOT!!! cool thanks. now what... no roms yet?
sorry to steal the thread but does anyone know how to unlock sim for tmobile.
I was able to root the zte midnight using kingo root. So now Im looking for cwm and a custom rom for this phone. Does anyone know if any are out for this phone?

Please help to obtain Root for ZTE N9515 (Boost ZTE Warp Sync)

I apologize if this is in the wrong section or been answered before, I looked and found nothing. I didn't want to spend the money for an expensive phone from the popular brands but wanted something decent. I came across the warp sync 2GB Ram, Quad Core ,5" HD Screen, 8mp camera and Sprints new Enchanced LTE speeds I get over 45 Megs anytime of the day all under $180. I love the phone but I just can't find a root guide for it.
It seems to never been rooted, the bootloader comes unlocked but has a secure boot image. From what I seen online that seems to be the reason why it can't be rooted. Is there a way work around? or a way to make a insecure img? I have tried every auto root from device/pc method. Source Kernel can be found here http://opensource.ztedevice.com/

Already tried both methods listed on the site resulting in each one failing, I've also found more people with this phone having the same issue also claiming to have tried all methods. Is there a way to make the boot image unsecure? I found one website stating that since the bootloader comes unlocked that a method to try would be to install a custom recovery then flash the SU to root. But I can't find a custom recovery for this phone anywhere, is it possible to use a customer recovery from a different phone on this one? sorry if that's a stupid question.

Is there any news on zte warp sync root
I just bought this phone today... I really like it... I'll be keeping my ears open
I sent a msg to ZTE about the boot loader... This is their response.
“ As of right now, we can not provide an unlocked bootloader. This may be something available in the future depending on the carrier's request for the design changes for the phones.
Thanks!” [emoji36]

A copy and paste I wrote on android forums....someone here might take a look.
I am looking at some stuff now. I can't download the files at the moment due to slow internet. But we can get into Download Mode by holding down both volume buttons and turning the phone on. I am wondering if we can use something like this. https://sites.google.com/site/zteopenfirmware/download-mode you can flash various files in download mode. Or something like this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163493 (Method 5 : ZTE Firmware Flasher) , I think low level access through download mode or FTM is the key. If or when we can get a recovery on this phone, from what I read it will replace FTM
The NanDL for firefox does connect to our phone and a guy named SuperR modified the boot.img.
It look like some work is being done on the ZTE Zmax that has the same problem as ours. Hopefully it will work.
This is my third ZTE smartphone ...the other two was a pleasure and a good learning experience to root. I am not tech savvy enough to root any phone without instructions. So I join the rank with the other that wait.[emoji17]
so you guys still haven't figured it out?
Zte zmax achieved root, might try kingroot to get tmp root, from there you will be on your own, bit it might work

Download the Rootgenius, search from google and install in your pc and connect your phone,be sure that usb debugging is on when you are connecting your phone to pc.One thing is that you have working internet connection on your pc because this root software download some usb driver file of few mb.You root your mobile in less than three minutes.

New to everything tried to root HTC ONE M8 AT&T to no avail need a sage.

hey guys this is my first post so if a break any rules please let me know, decided to try rooting my phone but it seems either they patched it or im doing something wrong. i have tried everything from rooting conected to the computer (one click roots, root genie and one that made me think i was doing it well until it told me i had to pay) to computerless root apps Kingroot framaroot etc king root just stops and says root failed and frama says phone is not vulnerable. i really wish to learn how towork my phone and do cools stuff so if anyone would like to take me under their wing i will be forever grateful.
Most of those one click roots don't work on this device. Kingroot is the only one that has any reports of working on the M8, and reports are mixed.
In short, the way to root this phone is unlock the bootloader by HTCDev.com, install custom recovery TWRP, then flash SuperSU to obtain root.
Good detailed guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799796
Although its pretty outdated, so some updates and comments:
- If you have HTC Sync installed on your computer (and you probably do since you connected your phone to your computer), you already have HTC drivers installed, so no need to do that.
- Use a newer version TWRP (recommend 3.0.0.0): https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
- Use a newer version SuperSU (2.65 is latest stable version): https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip

Just finished fighting same battle. Mine was a little more difficult as my phone screen was blacked out and I was working blind. However, I finally made it work using adb and fastboot from command prompt. If you follow the directions exactly, it works and is not all that hard. Hang in there. If you have specific questions, let me know and I will be happy to see if I can help.

i am aware of allow oem unlock, this does not however help me in the process of unlocking and installing custom recovery.
TWRP doesn't appear to be available for the 4060A Ideal yet, if anyone notices they made one in the future please post in this thread.
Did you try the very latest version of KingRoot from Nov 23, 2016: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=21707
Please post if you did and if it worked.
EDIT: Yes. KingRoot5 does work but DO NOT USE King-O-Root. King-O-Root will permanently BRICK this phone. But KingRoot5 works.
EDIT2: See this post
I rooted this phone yesterday with the latest KingRoot. I I installed my backup from an LG K7 which I had fully rooted by using an older version of Super su me. Unfortunately I lost that phone. I found this phone on closeout at Kmart and Im trying to get something going on it. It's strange that busybox will install with the new version of KingRoot still installed. Everytime I run super su me (I have tried several different versions) it either crashes or just doesn't do anything. I'm working on it now. Any of you funny guys been able to remove KingRoot and keep root.
Screenshot from this phone. I once rooted an elevate and it came back as a pixi.
The reason why your post is important is people don't want to run KingRoot and find out the hard way it doesn't work, so thanks for posting that.
Yes, removing KingRoot and keeping root would be the golden grail, I'll post here as soon as I come across anyone who's done that. I can't find anyone yet with TWRP or FlashFire-equivalent, let alone root with KingRoot removed...
I read on another thread for this device that they successfully did it with the PC version of KingRoot. I'm leary about putting it on my laptop. I'm hard on phone's and have been messing with them for about a year now so far I haven't bricked a device. I've unlocked a couple of bootloader's. Seems I have the best luck with metro/lg. But I like a challenge and couldn't pass up this phone for the price. First time I got an at&t phone to achieve any kind of root.
I rooted this phone using kingroot then used this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989 to switch out kingroot for SuperSU. But you should read the comments in the thread as well for helpful hints, I used link2sd to fully remove kingroot after the script finished.
Bottom line is root and supersu can be achieved fairly easily.
I will give it a try. Ty

Did it work for you? I don't see Alcatel mentioned in that thread. I'm curious.
He says it worked for him using link2sd. The original method without link2sd used in the linked thread does not work on Alcatel Ideal 4060a, I tried it.
But his method of using link2sd may work - he says it does.
But how do you exactly do that method? What lines of code do you use, what exactly is the process with link2sd?
That's what we are after, how do you use link2sd with Alcatel Ideal 4060a. I hope he comes back and posts. Otherwise one of us will hopefully figure it out eventually on here...

In the post I linked theres a person who (on the first page) added a code to the script for link2sd.
However, im a bit to lazy to do the research into editing the script, so I think I just ran the script then used link2sd to remove kingroot, then reboot.
Though I had to do this while enduring a constant popup requiring me to press ok over and over.
To be honest though Im a bit fuzzy on the full process because I to had trouble getting the script to work. I might have run the script then rebooted then tried removing kingroot.
I will do this then post full instructions.
I actually know exactly what you are talking about.
But what exactly did you do inside link2sd, can you just post that?

Right, I have attempted to use Kingo root and I was able to remove att crap but I can't grant any other su permissions as I don't get that pop-up box with allow root permissions. I'm not sure how Kingo works but I'm pretty sure there should be some way to grant permissions.
