5 Productivity Apps You Should Check Out
Do you ever run into one of those really useful apps where you're like "I really wish I had known about this earlier" but now it's too late because you moved to New Zealand and you're not fitting in? Productivity apps are everywhere. When you go to the Play store you'll see all of the usual suspects like Word, Adobe Reader, Dropbox and some others that I'm sure you are familiar with. I have a few productivity apps that I use regularly and they aren't very popular. You wouldn't really find these apps unless you're specifically looking for that exact type of app on the Play store. So I will recommend that you check out these five apps that you've probably never had the chance to try before.
Chromer
This is a brilliant app that will always be one of the first things I download on any of my new Android devices. So here is the thing. When you're browsing twitter and you click on a link that takes you to an external site, twitter will use the System WebView browser. Since this is not Chrome you will not have your saved passwords, autofill info, default apps or any of the personalized features of Chrome. This will happen is most apps that use a browser to display external links. Chromer solves this issue by forcing apps to use Google Chrome instead of System WebView. This is a fantastic app and fixes a lot of frustration caused by in-app browsers.

Tiny Apps (multiwindow)
After becoming addicted to windowed apps from my Sony Xperia device, it's difficult to use other devices when I can't run my Small Apps. Tiny Apps is the next best thing, offering a wide range of basic apps that run in windows on top of your current tasks. Each window can be moved and resized to your liking. There is no limit to the amount of Tiny Apps that you can run at once, so you'll be able to truly multitask. An app like this will be most effective on a large high resolution screen.
Download
Coffitivity
Just a little ambient noise app to silence the demons in your head. You're all familiar with these types of apps by now and there are plenty to choose from. The reason I personally use this one is because it's the only one that I've used that will continue to play audio on top of my music from my media player. This allows me to quietly play music as I listen to the mumbling of strangers in a coffee shop, as I pretend that all of these people are my friends and really enjoy my company. Maybe they're saying nice things to me like complimenting my shoes or inviting me to dinner. It's a really nice feeling and tends to make me more productive.
Download
Sunrise Calendar
Calendars are garbage. They are literally the most complicated apps I've ever used. 99% of the time I attempt to figure one out but end up uninstalling it within a few minutes. The only calendar app that I've actually been able to use is Sunrise Calendar. This is an app put together by Microsoft and they tend to make really good software. The features of this calendar aren't what make it stand out but rather it's the ease of use. If you find yourself getting frustrated with calendar apps, give this one a try.
Download
Snowball - Smart Notifications
I like this app so much and cannot recommend it enough. Snowball turns your notifications into much more than just an alert. With this app you'll be able to respond to many different types of notifications without having to launch the actual app that they're coming from. Your notifications will also be sorted by importance and the most important notification will always be on top. If you get a lot of notifications then you're going to really enjoy this app.
Download
Productivity apps are in a category that is so extensive that you wont always find the best apps for you. So post some of your favorite productivity apps in the comments.
You know Sunrise calendar will eventually be killed, Microsoft is integrating it all into Outlook.

The app will be useless without the back end cloud services though. It's not most likely either, Microsoft have confirmed this is happening.
I would like to say thanks for Snowball. I like it very much.
Thank's very Good apps =D>

Among these 5 apps, I have been using Snowball for last few days. Seems to me a good and useful app.
Snowball & Chromer looks promising. I'll give it a try.
It's so amazing and beautiful app man
What I chose was Chromer & Tiny app
You have wonderful threads Sir
Keep it up
Snowball s awsm.... Made it easy...
Thanks for directing me towards Chromer and Snowball. Both are great finds and do a great job.
I don't have any apps to add to the list, as I don't generally try out new apps, but I'll certainly update here if I find any which are worthy
Thank you for Chromer ! it's really useful !
thanks got chromer looks cool
Thanks for the list! The chromer link leads to making a new thread btw.
Chromer seems to be working wel with Jswarts CAF Chromium build.
I don't like snowball's new notification UI. I'd rather use it's heads-up notification UI and functionality with the default notification pull-down UI. I'm trying Sunrise and Chromer right now and they seem very nice to me. Thanks!
thanks
Thanks man, I have been using chromer for a while now
Gonna try out snowball
Also
There's a new app being released by the old es file explorer developer called fooView in XDA. It's still in alpha but it's a good productivity app.
Give it a try
is there anything for firefox same like chromer? coz i dont like chrome...
thanks snowball will try...thanks to gesture can use both system UI and snowball too.
Does sunrise calendar actually gives you the sunrise and sunset time?
I thought it was about this but it doesn't seem to be the case. Too bad, it would have been a great feature, knowing at first glance if it is day or night is not only great for planning outdoor activities but also gives you an intuitive sense of time.
Snowball looks good. going to test it

In an attempt at obfuscation I thought I'd start a thread in hopes of getting some collaboration for improving my favorite Android ROM-- CM6. Sure I could stick with AOSP for better universal support but who cares? CM6 offers what I consider the best experience and the available code far surpasses what we would need to reinvent on a stock base.
Lack of time and knowledge has me realizing it's best to try to bring the community together so we can work on adding features in a hopefully less 'throm' way. Seeing advancements devs can do like MIUI's lockscreen and interesting home screen improvements, features we enjoy from the CM6 nightlies, etc. is the motivation.
I'll post my work and ideas and I'm hoping people do the same.
List of ideas and projects I'd like to get going:
Notification bar scrollable settings
MIUI and the new Sense inspired idea but taken to a new level with custom activity support similar to Bettercut and ADW offer.

Universal Firefox-style Google search from long-pressing text
Long press text in a web page, email, text box and have a context menu to search the phrase on Google similar to Firefox. It's a Google OS, let's add it
Smooth screen rotation transitition
Intercept rotation and instead shift the screen rotation without redrawing to improve speed on low end devices and prevent onResume() potentially wiping current saved state in poorly coded apps
This is a think tank and I hope to spin it into a development thread. I'm open to ideas like a Home button in browser, etc. Let's make this easy, open source and available for integration in ROMs to make things better for everyone.

gibe sense widgets on cm6 pl0x?

The one thing I've always wanted fixed in Android (since 1.0) is Artist sorting in the music player. Currently the scanner incorrectly uses the Artist tags for combination albums and splits them all up (should use Album Artist; check how iTunes/WMP sorts this stuff); its terribly annoying and has needed to be fixed for ages.

My 2 Cents
Sense like copy /paste In browser
Getting that search drop down on xda to not dissapear when I try to type in eing
Getting the gmail app to auto call phone numbers when you touch it, sense does this
When searching In google, the suggestions come up, I would like to be able to scroll to one of the suggestions, and this auto fills the search box for you, like it does in a desktop browser
Cm has thought of almost everything I must say though!
Here's an idea i'd like to see. I dunno if it should be implemented in Android in general or CM.
If you pull down the notification bar, swiping left or right to get another page with some of your widgets... OR switch between open applications using that.

Alright, so I did this mock-up to explain:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is my idea of a pretty neat launcher. Let me explain.
It's a giant launcher where everything is made up of "panels" which is essentially what a widget would be normally, except instead of small icons and widgets making up a grid, you would rather make up this entire tower of "panels" you can scroll through like so:
Once you reach the bottom (like so), you have the option of adding or entering edit mode in which you can change the placement of panels, configure panels, or add more. Also notice the stationary panels at the top and bottom. I figure the top would could be configurable to look however you like or replaced with another replacement panel made for staying at the top at all times. (i.e. you can't replace it with a Last.FM panel, you would have to go about finding a panel that is absolutely meant to be at the top.)
I figure this could also be a pretty accessible thing for everyone in terms of making new panels. Someone would release the base panel code, and then people can configure it to do some pretty neat things, I figure.
I dunno, this just seemed kind of cool in my opinion. I can think of all sorts of panels and stuff like that too - a Favorites/Folder panel, gallery panel, music panel... etc.
Also, I threw this mock-up together pretty fast. I figure the Facebook and Twitter panels would have more to it, heh.
So whatcha think?
EDIT: On a side note, what I was imagining isn't really widget status where you can interact with it so much - you click on it or the link or whatever corresponds with whatever (i.e. you click on a tweet) and it brings you to where you need in order to comment on it or like it through FB and what not.
Hey man, first off, u may want to request this moved to the Apps section. I see the dev side of it but ppl around here get very picky about what should go where. Second, cool idea, im not much one for these kinds of home screens but some ppl like them and the more kinds out there the better.
You may want to check out slide screen from larva labs. sounds very similar.
I believe this is what WP7 is trying to achieve but failing short of it....
Your concept is wonderful (not exactly original because of WP7), but I still like it. To do this you will need some mad skillz with Java and change up the framework and re-organize the notifications/alerts/alarm aspects of the it.
Also the facebook/twitter integration will need to know how to communicate with each respective API.
yeah, this is going in themes & apps.
In the other thread I mentioned that uh, I'm not a developer for anything, let alone Android. I just threw this mock-up out there just as an idea.

The only problem I see is that a lot of widgets would need to be reinvented to fit the new panel system. I don't want to do what the W7 Launcher did and just place the widget in the middle of a box 'cause that... That doesn't look good.
Here's some ideas for panels I pulled out of my brain:

Unless maybe there was a way to remove the background of the widget or force fonts onto widgets, but then again I know nothing regarding the difficulty of this so... Yeah.
But then again, there could be like master panels that have the ability to be set to whatever music program you want from there.
That would minimize the amount of panels that needs to be made. A friends panel = Twitter, Facebook, etc. A music panel (Like Phantom Music Widget) = a lot of music apps. And then maybe a widget panel where if you configure it you can have it attempt to remove the background of the widget so it looks somewhat right on the panel. I dunno.
I dunno man but you have everyone dying to have this made haha

Most android applications are so ugly and poorly made I cant even use them. I have spent all day looking for a simple note taking app. Evernote is too complicated, I'm looking for just a simple notes app. There arent any.

Slide Notes look very polished: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mbile.notes
For Tasks, a really good app is "Tasks": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.teamtasks.tasks.paid
Both are well polished and elegant looking, while tasks is written with the modern ICS UI guidelines. Though Slide Notes isn't yet using the Holo design principle, it is still elegant and has good typography in my opinion. It doesn't have the sticky note widget though... You oughta search hard, but I admit I too had a hard time getting a good note taking app until I found Slide Notes.

One of the few reasons why I like manufacturer skins is the apps that they bundle sometimes that are actually good and augument stock android. HTC notes is actually quite good and so is the tasks. Then sound recorder and FM (FM not available on this phone though) which stock android ignores somehow.
And on the side note, my old Droid x2 had a email client on gingerbread that was a god send. The stock gingerbread email client was god awful without any search function. The one moto packed was about as good as the one included in ICS.
There are a few gems in this phone too and a lot of turds. But it is sometimes worthwhile and sense is pretty smooth...

Does anyone else using the tasks app have duplicating tasks? When I create a task attached to my Google account and not a local one it syncs fine. If I edit the task, it duplicates. If I create a task on the web based Google account, it syncs to my tasks app one day earlier. I see other people on the evo posted about this but no one has mentioned it here. Has anyone else come across this bug? Only started using this app while on viper 2 also.

This is an Android Wear Watch Face and Wearable App with the ability to scroll custom text along the top of the wearable and add images from phone to background of watch face. Using the mobile version of the app you can quickly change the color of the background and text of both the watch face and wearable app within seconds. You can also add your own images as your watch wallpaper. New functionality will be added in the future to change other elements of the display. Change colors with ease. Match your outfit or mood!
WAIT! That's not all. Use mobile app or wearable to select custom news feeds to scroll a top the device. Keep up with weather, tweets, current events, sports with a quick glance. Speak updates to news feed via the wearable version of the app. This app will soon integrate with other applications in development.
* VOICE COMMANDS ON WEARABLE INCLUDE -
* SAY - 'SHOW TWEETS WITH HASHTAG ...' - TO GET LATEST TWEETS WITH REQUESTED HASHTAG
* SAY - 'NEWS ON ...' - TO GET LATEST NEWS FOR REQUESTED SUBJECT
* SAY - 'GET IMAGE OF ...' - TO GET RANDOM GOOGLE IMAGE OF SEARCH LOADED TO WATCHFACE
* SAY - 'SHARE SCREEN ...' - TO SEND SCREENSHOT OF WATCHFACE TO PHONE TO SHARE
* SAY - 'TWITTER MESSAGE ...' - TO SEND TWEET
Awesome app. Love it. I been slowly learning how to write apps and this is almost exactly what I wanted to try to do. Can you add the option to customize the dim screen? Make the lettering brighter?
I know a lot of people don't like hearing requests on here. This isn't a request. Just an idea for you to use if you want...
Sent from my LG-LS995 using XDA Free mobile app
Absolutely, request don't bother me. I've been working on making the phone ui bit better, but I'll see what I can do about the dim.
I would appreciate ahh help in getting the word out. Feedback on the playstore would help too. I'm glad you like the app. I hope you like the updates coming soon.
New update available now. Better ui. More features to come. Stay tuned
I seen this been tempted but I am worried about battery life. (Do not mind paying for it)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=deezel.com.newswatch&hl=en
The battery life is bad enough now, if this is always getting feeds? It may knock a lot of time off the already bad battery life.
Twitter, not a fan.
News get notifications from Appy Geek.
Weather Google is always pushing the weather cards.
How about more customization options on the text other that colour?
Funny thing, I working on an update to address most of those things. I don't think the news our Twitter feeds are good the watch face, but rather the app portion for quick access to news from the watch. The face dims so fast that the full headline never finishes scrolling anyway. I'll be rolling out an update within the next week that takes this in consideration, the new version has the ability to change the size of font. Thanks fit the feedback... keep it coming.
Another idea is to show whether or not the phone has service on the watchface. When I'm at work I don't get the best service and tend to lose it from time to time. I leave my phone on the break table quite a bit. It'd be nice to be able to look at the watch to see if service is back or not.
Sent from my LG-LS995 using XDA Free mobile app
I just bought this because I think it has potential. After tweaking some stuff I lost my microphone icon on the watch. I don't know how to get it back. Cleared data and cache. Also I have signed into twitter but I can't get the twitter tab. Any suggestions?
Edit:
OK I am goofy, didn't notice you can start the app from the app drawer and the watch face from the watch face selector. But mic only shows when starting actual app.
The Mic feature is only available from starting tha app through the drawer. Basically it's 2 apps. 1 watchface and then an app. I'll be adding more functionality soon. Watchface apps don't allow you to override control of the tap the screen feature. Basically watchface it's limited as there are no options for button press. Thanks, feedback on the store would be awesome. Let me know if you have any thoughts about future versions.
After you launch the app is you swipe left a menu should appear to give you some voice commands options.

ok got it I had wear launcher set up for that swipe.
But after watch goes to sleep. It exited and goes back to the watch face.
You launch the app from watch. If you have mini launcher, which I recommend, just Swype right to open mini launcher, then find 1 watch and click it to launch it. From watch app, click mic and give voice command. You know you're in the watch app if you seed the Mic symbol. You can say things like... 'get image of'... and give your search and the app should loss the background image based on your search. The list of voice commands can be found from the watch app. The phone app is strictly for watchface customization. The watch app allows watchface customization from watch and some additional features like... get news or show tweets... etc
Also from watch app... Say share screen and your watchface will be sent to your phone to share online... tweet your screen lets see what it looks like.... anyway... have fun. If you need any help feel free to pm me or respond to thread. Share with friends please and thank you.
Well.. As I said yesterday, I did buy this app. I am going to keep up to date with it I guess. Hoping for further development though. I dont think it is complete enough to use as my daily driver but might soon.

Coal686's Gear Fit 2 Watch Face Thread
While perusing the watch faces in the Samsung store, I realized that all the ones I wanted were paid. I couldn't find a free face that included a link to the weather app and a link to music controls. So, following the XDA way, I decided to make my own and to share them for free with you all. Since it is easiest to install them from the Samsung store, I've created an account there and so that's where you can find them (once they get listed). Search there by the name of the watch face that you are looking for.
I'd love some feedback. Also, I do take requests, but I may not act on them. As most people here, I have real life commitments that take up a majority of my time.
This is my first attempt:

Where did learn to make the faces. I've been looking for a short tutorial since I can program some and do graphic design.

Thanks, I look forward to you being able to try it. Certification is a little slower process than I thought it would be. It's in the certification process as "Under Device Test" so I'm guessing someone manually installs it on their Gear Fit 2 and makes sure it doesn't blow up the device or something.
As for how I learned, start by downloading the Gear Watch Designer program. I used Samsung's tutorial on how to use the program to get started. Then a lot of trial and error and reading up on their forum. Unfortunately, not a lot of information was found here or on the web for that matter (maybe too many people trying to keep things secret so they can charge money). If I find time, I'll try writing a tutorial or something.
I look forward to seeing some of your stuff!

Great job!
Wonderful to see people getting into dev mode.
Well, it took Samsung a week and a half to notice that THEIR asset has a XII in place of IV. My watchface got rejected for that one reason. So, I fixed their asset and reuploaded. As soon as it goes live, I'll let you all know.
Yeah! Watch face approved. Search in the Samsung Gear app under AnalogBlack.
Remember, if you have a request, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.
i am looking a watchface with barometer and altimeter, the only one in the store put too many elements on the screen and is very difficult to press an item without interference

I've not done one with those before, so I'll see what I can do. If you have an idea of how you want it to look, give me a sketch. Otherwise, I'll just make one up as I think it looks best.
recent installed your watchface. Well done Coal686
Very functional for me.
thanks for this job.
PD: If you dont mind, can you make the same watchface with digital time?
Thanks a lot
i'd like a digital watch with info for steps, Kcal, heart, weather and off course altimeter/barometer (with manual calibration option or if it is possible calibrated from GPS in auto mode )
if remain a little space also a battery indicator (it would be nice a simple row at the bottom)
i don't like very much material better a supertech way

Yours was easiest so I started with it. Wasn't sure if you wanted 12 hr or 24 hr time so I did one of each. Both are approved in the Samsung Store. Look for DigitalBlack24h or DigitalBlack12h. I'll post screenshots tomorrow.

Cool story bro.
Sent from a Glade Plugin.
another idea
the fit has a gps so it would be nice to be able to read some info about position on a watchface
is it possible?

I like all of your ideas, but I am limited by what the Gear Watch Designer program can do and by my own knowledge of how to use it. I especially like the idea of somehow incorporating GPS since I know the device does track that when you run. I'm wondering if some of the watch faces in the store use the Samsung SDK instead of the GWD program and that gives them more advanced functionality.
On a side note, I wanted to let you know that I'm sorry I haven't had time to work on your ideas. I'm in the process of upgrading parts in my laptop and desktop, so I haven't been able to work on watch faces recently.
Don't tell my boss, but I had been doing them here at work when he was out of office. :highfive: However, after I fix up my home gear, I'll be able to work on them at home and hopefully will be more productive on them.
no problem i also want to try GWD but my time after work is really very very low
and my knowledge of GWD also lower
i have seen an interesting sofware from neonto (it seems powerfull) but is only MAC
i'll wait for better days
