Display Colorless... - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I've been around for a long time the redmi note 2 but today I have the display compared to an iPhone 6 and I was amazed how too faint and colorless the display of redmi note 2 ..
Now to my question, there is an app/mod as I can calibrate perfectly?
In the settings where you can set the display hot/cool does not help
Thanks in advance (and sorry for my english)!

Try posting screenshots/pictures so we can see? Our screens are not the best, although I've not had a huge problem with color.

Is your screen yellowish than the iPhone?
not every screen is perfect white. some screens are yellowish and some are blueish.
but if it is too yellowish then you can replace the screen going to service center..

Redmi note 3 yellowish display

I have ordered 2 redmi note 3 32 gb gold one from mi last month and 2nd from amazon 10 days ago.
1st phone showing white disply its ok but 2nd phone showing slightly yellowish disply..
anybody facing same problem?should i replace the phone? or its commen? See the images..
Have you tried disabling automatic contrast (i.e. setting contrast to "standard") on both phones and comparing again? The only other think I can think of is maybe there is more than one manufacturer for the screens and this might be normal?
mine also yellowish

There's another thread on the miui forums pretty identical to this. As the others have said, it's due to the display provider, none of your units is faulty. Most of us have the colder looking display. You can send back the other unit if it's really an issue for you.
Recently I replaced my screen and the new one had a terrible yellowish tint compared to the older one. It was like the phone was on night mode all the time and the white colours where more like yellow than white. I tried to mess with colours in kernel adiutor and by reducing the green value things got a little better, not like the old screen but colours where bearable. Today I took the decision to move from miui to cm and when I booted to twrp colours seemed very normal but I thought that maybe it was in my imagination. But after flashing and booting in cm I see now that colours are perfectly normal like my old screen. So I'm starting to think that the yellowish tint has more to do about miui's settings than the different screen models. Maybe whoever has that yellow tint could try to switch to cm and if the problem does not exitst any more it is definitely a miui problem.

How is the screen uniformity so far?

How is the screen uniformity on your Note 8 (outside of Adaptive display) I avoided the S8/S8Plus due to the red tints that affected portions of the screen, Ive seen a total of 20 display units for the Note 8 and only 7 had good screens the rest had 'dirty' screens when the display mode was changed to Basic/Amoled Photo, its a combination if either partial red tints or yellowish tints on sections of the screens and the demo units were just installed.
I check the screen with Basic mode, brightness under 50%, fire up chrome and check in landscape, also i use the stock sms app in landscape and i check if its grey background is 100% even from left to right.
I am just curious if Samsung has upped the quality control or its still all about panel lottery ?
EDIT:
Im more interested on feedback that is using Amoled Photo or Basic, as Adaptive mode drowns the screen with a more blue.

My eyes are very sensitive to the red or yellow tints. In Samsung's case red.
My wife's and I note 8 doesn't seem too bad, some red tints around edges depending on veiwing angle but very acceptable.
Mines running basic model also

mine doesnt have those problems, and i always have it in basic mode

Adaptive mode here. Absolutely flawless, thankfully. My S8+ had tinted edges but that was fixed by the update they pushed out after adjusting the edges color. My Note8 is hands down the best screen I've ever seen.

When say edges is it on the curved edge or even on the flat part at the top ? as I've noticed most of the red tint is from the top part.
Im also very sensitive to this, other things I have accepted like the grey full screen uniformity on AMOLED is just terrible compared to LCD.
I was hoping that this issue would be fixed. I had an S3 with bad color uniformity issues. My Note 4 is darker along the left edge.
Can't stand the tinting issues that these seem to have. Also dislike brightness uniformity. A lot. I understand that each panel is different from the next, but what is it that causes these issues?
this is why
It's better than my previous note, which was a 4 but still the white isn't as white as some lcd panels out there. I didn't notice any uneven red tint on the N8 either for mine or the wife's. Tilting and viewing and looking out for it I see it a little around the curves of the screen, nothing that concerns me. But there is some red tint in there but not as bad as some note 4 or 3.
Good thing is , there is an adjustment that can be made in the display setting to reduce the red hue should you feel the need. I'm liking it as it is in Reading mode.
My ZTE Zmax whites look better.

So to summarize, it's relatively uniform but I can still see a pink red crush/hue is present when white is being displayed. Using AMOLED adaptive reduces the red pink hue but looks like trash elsewhere.
So,yes it's still pink. Not much has changed since my Note 3 or 4 days. Then again those were pink or red in parts of the screen. Least the N8 is uniform pink.

I would also like to know the technical reason on whats causing it other than "manufacturing variance" and up until now samsung has not addressed such issues and some customers even struggle to have the devices exchanged.

I had a really good screen with my Note 3 and it was the reason why I skipped 4 and 5 due to the lottery.

Same here, but with my Note 4 one lower area was pink. T Mobile exchanged it and it was fine after the first replacement. The N8 is uniformly pink. LOL

No, I dont have the resolve to go through that exchanging bull**** anymore, too old for that. Ill either live with it, or send it back .
Last iphone I had owned was the the 3gs and 4s, yellow tint bull**** on those also.
I've had so many iDevices and Macs and never have I seen a screen that I'd even consider good, especially in the area of uniformity. Always darker on one side or the other. Always a bit more yellow here, than there. I've exchanged so many iDevices over the years because of screen issues. Every iPhone release is loaded with crap screens. At least according to all of the threads on various internet forums and groups. That is one of the reasons why I've never tried an iPhone.
FedEx lost my Note 8 and I might just say screw it and stick with the Note 4. My wife's Note 8 has the best screen that I've ever seen on any device with a screen. The brightness is completely uniform. I'd say that it does favor red a bit, but I'd hardly call it pink. Very nice screen.

Indeed, mines not pink like some of the S8 images posted. but there is some hue all over it especially as I normally run "basic" screen mode. Turned the red bar down a little and or use adaptive and makes it ice blue, I can live with it.
Another observation I noticed, if the screen is in Basic mode and I turn on Blue light filter setting, but turn down the bar for the filter to min, the slight pink hue on Basic mode goes away.
Can you adjust the colors independently in all modes or just adaptive display?
Just curious, isn't "warm" supposed be somewhat yellow color in tone ? It seems like when you make the screen warmer it goes pinker.

Seems just in adaptive mode.

I have a professionally calibrated workstation display at my office. Whites look like paper and I adjust everything to mimic it.
I was able to get really close by adjusting in adaptive mode.
Problem is with our devices we take them everywhere and the environment changes dramatically, bright, dark, pitch dark, etc.
This plays tricks on our eyes big time! So what may look perfectly fine in one scenario may take on a very blue or very reddish hue in another.
You will drive yourself absolutely crazy trying to adjust all the time!
Like an EQ on a stereo, you adjust contour for flat response and leave it alone! (but most people constantly tweak it!)
Find a reference point and you will be good.
My panel is very consistent.
You want to see a bad display look at the Surface Pro! They may have decent color when calibrated but when the lights go out HOLY BACKLIGHT BLEED!
I am so done with LCD and just want AMOLED on everything NOW!

While what you're saying is generally accurate, that's not what people who have the red tint or purple tint are complaining about. I've seen many amoled screens from Samsung flagships that I consider defective due to extreme hues that can't be "adjusted" to normal. In addition, only adaptive mode can be adjusted, so when the screen is bad, you cannot use any other screen mode without the tint ruining the quality of the display.

Mate 10 Pro screen problem

Hello,
I have my Mate 10 Pro since one week and two days ago I used it at night and spotted that a little portion of the screen (at the right border of the screen) is much darker on gray color than the rest of the screen.
You can see it in the attached photos of my screen. It most visible in the Google Clock app where all the background is dark gray... It's not as visible as this when I use it in a more enlightened environment.
I think that the screen of my phone have an issue.
As it's a OLED display with no led back light there shouldn't be this kind of issues (it's like a clouding on the LED screens).

I'm thinking about exchanging mine too. I also see uneven Grey's and whites
I think it is just that the app is showing not a flat background, but a background with gradient. It is more beautiful when app backgrounds are with gradient, than just flat. So with lowest lightning the contrast of different levels of intensity on the background are more easy to see.
It's not a software gradient, it's a screen flaw. It's called Mura effect. Affects mot OLED screens. Google Mura effect oled for more info. I was so sad when I first noticed it on my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (changed it twice with no luck), and then on my Galaxy S5.
Now I'm going for IPS screens which imo still suffer from less flaws than OLED.

Anybody experience data problem when switching back from wifi mode?
Hello
I have the exact same issue and it's really bugging me...
I went and showed it to the Service Center and they accepted to exchange it for a new one. I'm waiting for the replacement in a couple of days...
I'm glad I wasn't the only one experiencing it!
Send it back and get a new one from Amazon. I saw this problem with the camera in white or clears walls. It seems "banding".
I acquired a second hand Mate 10 Pro 3 weeks ago (first owner bought it on the 24th of November), it already had burn-in zones: navigation dock button, Google Search, bottom system buttons bar and many other ones from various apps' icons... These zones are mostly noticeable on clear or white screen/pages (eg: about:blank URL in Chrome browser). At reception, I immediately selected a black theme and activated Battery's dark mode. Now I can see my own apps setup marking the screen... After only 3 weeks...
Am I the only one ?
I'm contacting Huawei customer service.

Ghosting question BOE screen

Now I have returned my LG screen and got a BOE screen on my Mate 20 pro. I just want to preface this thread that I love my phone. I chose to get a replacement instead of refund. I like the BOE screen overall. I don't have any issues with brightness or uniformity, no defects or dead pixels. But I did notice some ghosting. Or Lag of the pixel from black to grey.
I also noticed that the BOE screen has some GHOSTING. If you have a BLACK background and scroll up/down with grey windows. The grey will momentarily be purple lagged until the pixels catch up. NOT trying to spark some defect whitch hunt, just an observation. And one I've only noticed it once in real world use.
Just found with a quick search, one that shows the purple lag.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/34t923/is_your_screen_defective_test_for_yourself_by/
Just scroll.
Tested on my wife's Note 9 and there is just a hairline lag of purple that resolves quicker. almost imperceivable. Instead of half the grey square that is slower to catch up.
I guess my question is does everyone have it? Didn't try on my LG screen phone. Anyone here have one willing to scroll and let is know if it also has the lagging pixels? Or any other phones readily available to test and report back?
Mine has it. Mines a boe screen. It was the same with my other LG screens too. I noticed this a while back on the android central app in dark mode at night while scrolling through the threads on there, the phone was on low brightness due to me reading at night in a dark room. Quite annoying.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
LG screen was worse for this than the BOE one From my experience.
I think this is normal oled behavior but it is more visible on some screens than others
I had the same before with my mate 10 pro
But now not visible with my iphone x
And also i think that the oled screens are slower with very low brightness and there refreshe speeds up with brightness

I noticed this too on my BOE screen. Could not verify on my previous LG screen which had been returned.
Can anyone with GOOD LG screens confirm whether this occurs with LG screens too and to what extent? Many thanks.
I have an LG display and have experienced no ghosting when scrolling in low light. Briefly had one with BOE display that I returned--there was noticable ghosting on that phone in low light but autobrightness was also poor--that display was probably defective.

I think you're correct about the brightness correlation. Thanks for pointing that out!

OLED light bleed on pitch-black screen?

Hi I just bought a new Mate 20 pro last week (with BOE display for the record). I noticed that in very low light situations, mostly at night (so with low screen brightness and very dark environnement), my screen does not seem to display true black. Basically I can tell if the screen is powered on or not when a true black image is being displayed. It's almost like the backlight of a LCD display. I tried to replicate the issue in the day but to no avail, guess it was not dark enough.
Also, when I turn the screen at 100% brightness, the issue seems to disappear, the black is fully black and I can't tell if the screen is on or not.
I thought OLED panels were supposed to have infinite contrast and display perfect black. I had OLED panel phones in the past (Galaxy S4, S7, Mate 10 Pro) and I did not notice this.
Now I saw on GSMArena (gsmarena.com/huawei_mate_20_pro-review-1845p3.php), that the Mate 20 Pro is subject to 'minor light bleed'.
Is it what I'm experiencing? Is it normal?
By the way the light bleed is quite discreet, so when I tried to take a picture of it with a P20 Pro, nothing can be seen in the dark.
I also get the exact same thing on my Google Pixel XL. At minimum brightness, there is a very faint reddish bleed coming from the edges of the screen. Perhaps it's a quality control issue?
I've got the same problem with my mate 20 pro. What have you done?
