I tried this last night with flashfire, had to flash twice, had to reboot after some google play installs and got the T-Mobile bootloop screen, had to flash back to Exodus rom from backup. I miss the touchwiz camera. I then flashed with TWRP and set it up, success! Flashed Hipasian kernel and lost camera....

Do i need to wipe data and cache prior to using Odin to install the full release?
I ask because my first attempt ended in a FAIL message. Secure check fail..
Currently on a rooted stock rom with some mods.

I always back up and do a complete wipe so you have something to go back to when coming from different developer roms. Just seems to make things smoother.

Worked fine for me. Only issue was I had to use Odin to flash the modem. After the first boot, the baseband was still oj4. DL the stock modem in the post and used odin to install. Works great.

Just flashig the .tar will not trip knox but any root method will.

I'm guessing the only way to not void Knox is to downgrade to 5.0, root. Then use ota's to maintain root?

will this trip knox
Yes it definitely trips Knox. After flashing with Odin CF root rom my base was changed but root was unsuccessful. I tried a few times and put the phone in download mode and there on the screen was*
Knox 0x1 4. Screw me. Are there any wayspecific to reset knox

Getting Root/TWRP after MJ4 firmware update

Ok guys, I'm making this thread for all the people that had to flash MI5 stock tar (thanks Josh) in order to have their phone accept the MJ4 firmware. Once the MJ4 firmware is on the phone you may ask how do I go about Rooting my phone and getting TWRP back. At least that is the question I asked myself.
Once I was on MJ4 I attempted to go into Odin and use CF Auto Root. This install did not go through. It froze on me and I was forced to abort. I attempted to flas MI3/MI5 in Odin but those would not go through either. I really thought my phone was bricked. Luckily someone advised I flash TWRP via Odin. Sure enough that got me to boot into my MI5 rom (with my newly installed MJ4 firmware.) However, after manually trying to get into recovery I was taken to stock recovery and not TWRP. This is where I stand right now and I really don't know where to proceed. At this point I'm just happy my phone isn't bricked.
Long story short: CF Auto Root did not work for me on MJ4 firmware. Some have said it worked. I'm not trying again. Please post your experiences concerning this topic so we can all decide which route back to Root is best for those with MJ4 firmware.
I downloaded TWRP ODIN files and ChainFires SU 1.65 flashable zip. The trick is to push TWRP via ODIN ensuring only "auto reboot" is selected. Once you hit start and get to the point where you hear your pc make the usb disconnect sound hold Vol+, Home and Power to boot into recovery. If you do this right TWRP will boot, if not you will have the stock recovery. Once in TWRP flash the SU zip and reboot then profit! Worked like a champ for me
Edit: If at first you don't succeed, try again. It works, just takes practice. And yes I flashed the MI5 tar via ODIN and updated to MJ4.
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
I followed your instructions. The only thing I didn't do was flash SU.zip. I simply restored my nandroid.
Thanks for the break down man!
I used restore stock Odin MI5. And then CF auto root. And goo manager to install twrp. Worked without any problems

That's because you restored your Ml5 nandroid. You should still have MJ4 firmware, and Software version though...which are the important bits with the MJ4 update. Unless of course you selected MODEM in the restore and rewrote the M15 version of that too.
If that just bugs you, you can edit your build.prop and change the value for ro.build.display.id to whatever you want!

You should be completely happy. What I'm trying to say...is what you're observing is entirely cosmetic. Your nandroid just restored your old build.prop from your stock Ml5, so it's just a text string you're looking at. You got the firmware update, which was the entire point of the exercise. If the cosmetic detail of that string value is making you less than entirely happy...change it to MJ4
After editing it...you will have to reboot for the changes to display though, most likely.

Any text editor technically. But the easiest by far IMO, is to download ROMToolbox (by JRummy) from the Playstore. Install it, and under the "Performance" section is "build.prop Editor". Tap that button...scroll to that bit that I mention previous. ro.build.display.id TAP it, and tap into the PROPERTY VALUE field and edit to your hearts content Tap OK, when your done, reboot. TADA! WINNING!!
BTW...the PRO version is on sale.. $2.99 Very useful app.

So restoring from a nandroid is the only way to root MJ4? I forgot to do a nandroid before doing the update. So I have nothing to restore from.

[Q] confused to no end, once i get this this going i am not messing with it

Breakdown:
Was rooted with twrp recover running jellywizmj9
Accidently installed ota 4.3 firmware and got stuck in a bootloop
I managed somehow to the other day to install the stock rom that was rooted but then attempted to unlock the bootloader so I could reinstall trwp and custom roms again. This is were things fell apart.
Prior to trying to unlock the bootloader I had the following on the phone (trying to recall exactly from memory) Android version 4.1.1 and baseband vraljb
Using odn3 v3.07
I have flashed the pit file successfully
I have flashed root66_vzw_stock_system.tar.md5 successfully
---- still locked on boot screen
VRALJB fails in sboot.in
And WAMC3 says its unsupported version
In my oden mode the screen says:
Product name: sch-i605
Custom binary downloads: no
Current binary: Samsung official
System status: custom
Know warranty void: 0
RP swrev: A2
I have tried removing the sim card and sd card resetting phone I think I tried it all.
Right now I will settle for a functioning phone. Rooted or unrooted, bootloader or not. I just want my phone functioning again.
ok here is a solution that i found on xda. since i downloaded 4.3 i screwed myself until someone comes up with an unlocker for bootloader. I had to install vzwemj9. the phone is now working and is rooted still.
With this being said with the phone being rooted is there any way outside of the bootloader to install custom roms?

Yep. You should be able to root 4.3 MJ9 with saferoot. Here's the link to saferoot-- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48392009. If you have data and apps leftover from before you restored, it sounds like everything might not have got wiped with the factory restore. Did you use Droidstyle's guide to restore? You might see if a factory reset from within the settings of the stock ROM would wipe everything.... and you could also try to do another Odin restore.

It sounds like you took the OTA update to the recent 4.3 VRUAND3 build, which doesn't work with saferoot. Others have had success using ODIN to revert back to 4.3 VRUEMJ9. You can use Droidstyle's guide to restore back to factory stock MJ9.... from there, you should be able to use saferoot on MJ9 to get root access.

Assuming the answer is no to the above question can someone try the following and see if it allows you to update to NG6, Keep your root access, and allow you to continue to use ss v3.75 after the update:
This "KeepRoot" method uses a modified version of the official NC5 to NG6 OTA Update.zip to upgrade while maintaining your User Data & Root Access!
**Prerequisite** This method requires that your NC5 system is 100% stock except for root and Safestrap. The update will fail if any system files have been modified or deleted, e.g. thru Xposed, etc. You must first restore the stock files or reflash back to stock NC5 and re-root. If you are not 100% stock please don't waste your time by attempting this method.
Here it is: I545_NC5_to_NG6_KeepRoot_OTA.zip
1. Place the I545_NC5_to_NG6_KeepRoot_OTA.zip in the root of your ext sdcard.
2. Use Towelroot-v3.apk to root your device.
3. Install Safestrap-I545-3.75-KitKat.apk
4. Boot into Safestrap recovery but Do Not Wipe!
5. Flash the I545_NC5_to_NG6_KeepRoot_OTA.zip in the "Stock Slot." Once flashing is complete press "Home" and reboot into "Download Mode".
6. Last, flash the I545_NG6_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
Once complete the phone will reboot then "optimize apps" before completely rebooting. Done!

[Q]All Roms failing during flashingon Note 3 - PROBLEM SOLVED!

Hey Guys
I'm a experienced flasher but I have ran into a issue with flashing roms on my Note 3. I had recently just been running stock rooted rom (basically I rooted my phone the day it came out with Sprint and never have update anything). So when I noticed that ny son's note 3 (note rooted) got an update recently, I decided to look for an updated base and broadband for my phone, which I thought I had found. So after so help with figuring out which update I needed to do, I figured NH7 was the latest. Finally got my phone updated or so it appeared.
So this week I've been trying desperately to update to MOAR S5 PORT (NE5 based I believe) I followed the instructions carefully and tried all 3 versions. All failed. So I restored my phone. Tonight I tried flashing flashing Pac-man rom. Same thing happened. Failed during install.
Can you guys take a look at my setup and tell me what may be wrong? Doing a clean install each time.

UPDATED 10/24/2014:
I had to reflash all the Note 3 stock tar's in order. Then root with Chainfire Auto Root. Then install Clockwork MOD Recovery. Now I can flash roms.

Wipe wipe Wipe and when it fails to flash then restart recovery And it will flash then ....
So wipe 3 times. Then when it fails. Reboot to recovery and flash again? Do I need to wipe again before flashing?

Any time you wipe the system partition, you MUST restart TWRP recovery before flashing the rom of your choice,.. or it'll fail every time.
Ok. I will try that noq

Let us know how it goes. Happy flashing.
So I wiped everything. Tried to install and it failed. So i go to reboot to recovery and it ask me about superuser. But it doesnt install because their is no OS. REBOOT to recovery and it fails again
Do I need to format data?
Actually I dont even see a option in TWRP to format data
I wonder if I should try a dirty flash?
I would odin flash a full stock nh7. To get you all the way to nh7. I see you are still at nab on one. I had problems when they weren't all the same. I could be wrong.... I'm a noob. lol
Then, root with chanfires autoroot. Install your recovery. Then, flash your rom of choice.
NOTE: I said nh7.... but, if the rom you want to use isn't, then odin to nab or whatever the rom you want to run is. I don't know about downgrading, could make a brick.... lol
Research everything I said before you do anything! Or wait for someone to correct what's wrong with what I said! I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone!
one of your issues is you updated wrong! unless you were on nc5 you shouldnt jump right to nh7. you have to update in order to insure no issues. so if oyu were nqb or ever mi3 you need to go in order mi3>nab>nc5>nh7
Chainfires auto root.....http://download.chainfire.eu/362/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p.zip
Here is Supersu download.....so when you check to see if you have root.....it will all be good.......http://download.chainfire.eu/578/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.14.zip
Odin v3.07.......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
now you can try to go back to stock and flash whichever you are going to flash........or you can do a reflash of whatever you want....I have notice a losss of root also too.
also make sure to look into all those fixes for security patches xda has for our phone......download and scan with bluebox security and search for any open links that have a fix here on xda........
this happened to me the other weekend and it took an afternoon to dig all resources to figure out why and what i needed to do........I started rooting with a samsung moment......
I am back to stock.....no complaints.....but only did to get home before i go back to a rom.......hope we have helped....
Thanks guys. I will try all of these

Yes you have to do that.. Also I believe you have to be in twrp 2.8 for kitkat I was having problems too until I installed the new Twrp!

I dont see a new TWRP. All I see is version 2,8
I installed all the updates back to back. I have TWRP installed and I'm on NH7 now. But I cant get root. Chainfire Auto took me back to stock recovery and I'm not rooted. So I flashed TWRP via Odin and flashed ChainFire Superuser v.2.14 and I'm still not rooted. All thought it say it worked. So WHen I reboot, what do I need to do then? I have SU installed
Ok guys. After flashing all the Roms in order via ODIN. I finally have NH7 working and rooted.
I just tried wiping system, data, dalvik and cache. Then I immediately rebooted to recovery and tried to flash MOAR V1. and Pac-man rom. Both failed.
One thing Im noticing in recovery is that the system is not mounted in when wiping. So I tried wiping with and without system being mounted and got the same result. One thing Im not sure about with flashing for the note is if the Data should be formatted before installing? However I dont see that option in TWRP.
This is the only phone Ive had this much trouble with when it came to flashing.
Any ideas?

[Q] Root note 3 with Lollipop (OC5)

Does anybody know how to root the note 3 sprint with lollipop using the the base band OC5, please help with a step by step guide.
thanks
Update: I made my way to root I combine two methods to do it, thanks to all of you.
Use the latest method by chainfire for kitkat. That's how I did it.
If you dont care about knox, I would just odin latest twrp and flash supersu zip. Super easy.

Could you elaborate on this latest method of rooting by chainfire?
Use CF Autoroot from chainfire. You can find it here. I used this method and it worked perfectly.
I heard Chainfire method isn't approved by XDA, can a veteran confirm?

I doubt that. Been using cf auto root for a long time.

What two methods did you combine?
I'm on OC5 and I was thinking of using towelroot. If that doesn't work, I would then try Odin flashing to NH7, then towelroot. I don't want to trip Knox since I have Sprint's insurance. If those methods don't work, then I would consider Chainfire.
If I trip knox, can't I just flash back to stock to reset the counter?
The easiest way to gain root is to flash a recovery, twrp or philz. Then flash a superuser zip file. Then clear cache/dalvik (should really be called runtime cache now)
I'm having an issue regaining root on stock 5.0 (previously rooted). I rooted with CF via Odin but found Supersu conflicted with one of my other apps. I used the labeled option in Supersu to uninstall/clean up to switch to another super user app. I tried ChainsDD's app first but was unable to get the binary to update (even with the update fixer so or odin flashable). I then tried Clockworkmod's app and experienced a similar issue but lost root all together. Since then I've tried: Reflashing cf auto (causes phone to freeze on sprint logo at boot)
Flashing Supersu update.zip 2.46 and beta 2.49 made for 5.x firmwares (same issue as cf)
So far the only way I've been able to get the phone to boot after attempting to root is by odin flashing the OC5 update again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Instead of using cf, just
odin the oc5
boot
power off
pull battery
odin twrp
boot
power off
Boot to recovery
Flash supersu
Wipe cache/dalvic
Reboot
Profit!

I'm currently using the latest twrp. I believe it's 2.8.6.1. I tried flashing the Supersu zip and clearing both caches. Same result.

Sounds like you did a lot of other stuff first though. I'd start from scratch.
