wait a little and then you will see the CWM screen and then install the cm-11-20150714-M12-pop8lte.zip file which must be copied on the microSD TF card you inserted in the tablet. When the flashing is over, reboot and you're ready to go.
This ROM is pre-rooted. No need to root after.
Good luck.

Excuse me, what Android system recovery do you mean? The system recovery menu that the vodafone smart tab 4g has by default?
I didn't mention this recovery method in my writing. Other method I explained. The CWM recovery method as follows:
First download and decompress:
SmartTab4G_Recovery_KK_benjaminwan_EN.zip
switch on the smart tab 4g and connect it via USB to your PC. USB debugging should be turned ON!
and in command line in a terminal type:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot -i 0x1bbb oem unlock
fastboot -i 0x1bbb boot cwm.img
wait a little and then you will see the CWM screen and then install the cm-11-20150714-M12-pop8lte.zip file which must be copied on the microSD TF card you inserted in the tablet. When the flashing is over, reboot and you're ready to go.

And where is the right drivers? My Vodafone Smart Tab 4g P353X is bricked and the only connection that i have is for QDLoader 9008 with QPST. How to establish connection for ADB?
Now in device manager i can get Android Bootloader Interface after installing official POP 8S drivers, but i still can`t get the device to be listed in ADB... and to see the tablet in device manager i have to hold power+vol down. Power+vol up=recovery mode and vol up+vol down= qdloader 9008(download mode for Qualcomm).

How did your Vodafone Smart Tab 4G get bricked?
I would propose you to consider to connect it to a Linux PC (running Linux Mint for example) and install the latest ADB package on it and then connect your Vodafone Smart Tab 4G.
In Linux you don't need any drivers.

you're welcome.
my personal view is that, yes, they are better because they work much faster with less computing overhead for the tablet providing at the same time more features.
one however, need be extra careful when flashing those ROMs to the tablet in order not to cause damage and brick it.

Hello!
I have an issue with the process.
I have unziped the file SmartTab4G_Recovery_KK_benjaminwan_EN , on my desktop , and then I'm opening the cmd on my pc and then I'm typing the 2 commands :
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot boot cwm.img , but I'm getting a message :
C:\Users\djsbe>fastboot oem unlock
'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Can you please help me?
Also , what is the purpose of the SmartTab4G_Recovery_KK_benjaminwan_EN ? Do I have to execute a file in order to proceed?

Hello people
I think my HTC Hero is what you call softbricked.
When I hold Home + Power on to go to recovery mode I get this single line of text:
Build : RA-hero-v1.5.2
If I hold Home and press power on the text disappears leaving an all black screen. Pressing home + power on again brings the text back.
When I boot normally it just keeps saying "Hero"
I think I did a full wipe, installed VillainROM 6.0.0 and then did a OTA update to VillainROM 6.1.0. I did notice the latest rom being rather slow and hanging sometimes. Then three days ago it froze. I pulled the battery and when I put it back in I was left with what I've described above.
Can't access VillainROM's official website
Another frustrating thing is that w w w. villainrom .co .uk has seemed down to me this whole softbrick-period. But they've announced a new version and no one have commented on their site being down. Apparently I'm the only one who can't access it.
Vol. down + power on
I've never used this boot mode. But it's the only one which seems to work.
HBOOT says Sd checking and all the tests results in:
No image! or No image or wrong image!
FASTBOOT just gives a red box with the white text FASTBOOT in it.
What can i do?
I did a nandroid backup before installing VillainROM 6.0.0 but I can't access recovery mode.
I would like to install the official 1.5 RUU-rom but HTC Sync can't find my phone, neither can adb shell.
I can insert the SD card in my computer and put an update.zip file in the root. Is this a solution? I don't know how to make the phone boot the update.zip file or how this works.
Sorry for this long post. I've been searching the web ever since thursday without any luck. So now I'm just putting all I've experienced out.
I hope someone can help me. I would be very glad
Alright, if you can get to the fastboot screen, this is what you should do:
Plug your hero in fastboot mode into a computer with the latest android sdk installed.
DL the latest recovery for your device: I don't think I can post links yet so search the forum for Amon RA's recovery (1.6.2) and place it in the tools folder of the sdk.
Then:
Open a command prompt (or terminal for linux, idk for mac)
Go to the tools folder with cd
(./)fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
(./ is for linux ^^,) And that should normally work
From there your best bet is to use Nandroid to recover one of your backups.
Thank you for your response
But I got an error:
Code:
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools\fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
downloading 'boot.img' ... FAILED (remote: not allow)
finished. total time: 0.010s
The site I downloaded the recovery image from suggestion this installation:
via fastboot + adb -> In case you don't have a custom recovery, so when you get signature fail errors
Code:
adb shell reboot bootloader fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img adb shell mount /sdcard adb push recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img adb shell reboot
I've also tried this but it resulted in: error: device not found
I've noticed how my phone says "fastboot usb" when connected to my computer.

The site isn't down, but some people can't get to it due to their DNS setup.
Use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to get it, or go to http://villainrom.grense.no/villainrom.co.uk to get in.

Yes, I have tried booting without SD card and without simcard aswell. My simcard is now in a good old Nokia 3310
I have updated the radio earlier
A while ago I updated the radio to this version: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Is that an android 2.1-radio? And is that what's causing "not allow" when running fastboot flash?
What recovery image would I then be allowed to flash? An official one?
Or is it my bootloader (that's SPL, right?) that needs to be flashed to a version that allows the fastboot flashing?
I haven't been able to find a guide on flashing SPL on HTC Hero.
Is this the way to go?
Still need help or is this now sorted?....
It's now working
My phone is now working. I did the following:
1. Connected my phone to a computer with HTC Sync and drivers installed.
2. Started the bootloader on my phone (vol. down + power on, hold until bootloader starts).
3. Pressed back to start fastboot. It said fastboot usb because it was connected to my computer.
4. I tried to install an official 1.5 RUU rom. The phone responded and began the process. It cleared/deleted some caches/files or something. But then my computer and my phone said that the ROM installation had failed and that I should find the right rom.
5. Somehow this cleaned up the phone so I now could boot in recovery mode as I used to (I didn't try a normal boot, so can't say if that worked). I did a full wipe and flashed a custom rom (not VillainROM 6.0.0 ).
Even though VillainROM has made me sad I will now go for VillainROM 10.
Wish me luck
And thanks for your responses.

2. Boot into fastboot mode by holding volume down and the power button untill you see 'Fastboot' on screen.
3. When you see fastboot, press volume up.
4. Open a command prompt and CD to the directory you placed your moto-fastboot package, I would enter:
Code:
CD C:\motofastboot
5. Now enter:
Code:
moto-fastboot flash system ORFR234-system.img
6. Once complete, enter:
Code:
moto-fastboot flash webtop webtop.img
7. And finally enter either:
Code:
moto-fastboot flash boot ORFR234-tegrapart-d00100.boot.img
OR
Code:
moto-fastboot flash boot ORFR234-tegrapart-1100100.boot.img
Depending on your Tegrapart number.
8. Turn off your phone, boot it back up and you should now be rocking Orange 2.3.4 GingerBread.
briliant guide mate! could you add some kernels and roms thats working with UK's atrix
Cheers
Thanks, this is exactly what I needed in terms of clear, complete information all in one thread.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to the Atrix and there's so much info all over the place my head is already spinning! I'm on UK T-mobile, I assume the unlocking and rooting part is still the same, but should I still flash the Orange file or would this mess up my phone? All I really want to do is root/unlock so I can flash a custom rom.
Many thanks.

No, it won't. In fact, even Orange FR and Orange UK are as different as AT&T and T-Mobile UK. Also, ALL AT&T ROMS WORK! All you need to do is to flash faux123's kernel over the top of the ROM, just to get back your RAM. Even if you don't flash the kernel, you will not brick, just have the limited RAM issue.
Finally, most of us should be on the N_01.95.00R radio. What speeds and battery life do you get out of this on Orange UK?
It seems I have been capped to 1.9mbps

Thanks for replying...I think I understand what you're saying.
However, I'm on T-mobile UK not Orange. I only ever use wifi for data so not sure about speed, but battery life seems to be just over a day although I've only had the phone a few days so far. Just trying to make sense of it all .
I wish there was one definitive thread on what you need to do to get the phone to a point where you can flash a custom rom. Don't get me wrong, I'm not lazy and don't mind reading up and researching, I'm just really confused at the moment about whether I need to follow the pudding thread and flash sbf files (it says to put Pudding on the phone, whatever that is) or use Gingerbreak or SuperOneClick, and how to get cwm recovery on the phone.
....more reading up is in order I guess, until it all sinks in
Anyone know why it's stuck on the boot screen with this? I even SBF'd back to stock Orange 2.2.2 before hand. I also fastboot -w it. Is there nothing you can just flash for this?
this is what i get when trying to flash???

ok then, the link supplied for moto-fastboot is incorrect - found in the instruction link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092 - the guide also needs to add to press the up arrow to transfer the images. moto-fastboot.exe is not included in the original link.
I assume the initial link is for linux.
Nope that's what I used on windows 7 x64 mate, and I didnt have to press up to transfer the images either :S
I had no problem with the moto-fastboot, but it does just get stuck on the loading screen with unlocked.
When I run Gingerbreak, nothing happens?
EDIT: Fixed.

another quick question. Will the data on my internal storage be somewhat erased by following these steps???
edit: found out... yes it does, yes it does. haha. lost all my application data! oh well.
Hi,
followed all the steps on unlocking the bootloader and all went well, expect now it appears stuck on rsd saying executed 100%, but 'please manually reboot power up this phone'. Oddly though the phone is already on, what should I do?
Hi ive rooted and unlocked the bootloader and was following the guide to a T...
on the part of flashing 2.3.4 ORANGE i downloaded all the relevant files and placed them the motofastboot folder. it says to then turn the phone off and boot into fast mode which i have done. and then pressed volume up and now states tarting Fastboot protocol support
I then connect the phone to the computer and started step 5. and it says its not recognised as an internal or external command....etc etc! what am i doing wrong? i tried to put cd before the command prompt and it just says system can not find the path??? but i have everything in the correct place? help plssss
Have you put renamed the motofastbootx86 or x64 to just motobootfastboot and then your commands will work. Hope that helps
Am desperate to get Gingerbread installed on my Atrix I have followed all the above steps carefully (atleast I think I have) but when I get to the stage of flashing at the cmd prompt I get:
The program can't start because adbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
What am I doing wrong ??? Thanks in advance

Roberts56 I had that problem at 1st and founf that the motofastboot file is corrupt, I did a search and downloaded it from elsewhere and it all worked fine.
Well it did untill I got my error message above ;-(
Here is the working version with the dll files that I was missing, hope this helps.
Sorted me out in the end and I have to say it has given my Atrix a new lease of life.
Am well impressed

Hold vol down as it goes through the next loop, and it will put you in bootloader. From there, you can go to fastboot mode and flash custom recovery. Then adb sideload, adb push a ROM, or load a ROM to the removable SD if you have a card reader you can connect to your computer. Then boot custom recovery and flash the ROM.

Try the universal drivers from the link below.

The PC can see the phone, otherwise you wouldn't get the Model ID error message you indicated in the first post.
So no response if you type the following in command prompt?: fastboot devices
Fastboot and/or adb connectivity issues are rather common.
Another trick you can try, is to uninstall all HTC software (Sync and drivers) from your PC. Then connect the phone. DO NOT accept any prompts to automatically install drivers or Sync. Go to Device Manager, find the device, and pick the option to manually select the drivers, and pick the generic Android MTP device drivers.
Also try different USB ports. IN particular, if the ports are USB 3.0, that is known to cause issues (you may be able to disable the 3.0 drivers).
And if your PC is Win8.1, that is also known to be problematic.

Fastboot and adb connectivity issues are almost always a problem on the PC's side (ports, Win version, drivers, USB 3.0). Warranty replacement isn't going to help you.
I've given you a few suggestions on addressing the connectivity issues. You haven't indicated whether you have tried them yet, or not.
i tried your sugestions phone is showing up as HTC andriod device and running adb devices doesn't show anything. Not sure what else I can try , I am trying this on a windows 7 PC as windows 8 gave me so many issues .
@sguy156
So your running adb commands from c:\user .
I think your not navigating to adb properly.
I go to where adb and fastboot lives and Shift+right-click so I can open the cmd there
Thats what i did ran it from the location where adb and fastboot are installed same issues .
I hate to ask but do you have usb debugging on wile trying to use adb ?
Please keep an open mind as I'm trying to help ?

I'm not trying to be rude but now that you have fastboot figured out I suggest you put the phone down in another room and start reading on what procedures to take next.
You learn the hard way by not looking in the "General section" where all the information is posted.
Yes you need the bootloader unlocked to push a custom recovery.
Thanks for your help , I found the other steps on other section . Hit post too quickly ..... Learning experience ..

i need some help here please!
i was trying to unlock my bootloader (using this guide) and it went all fine till step 17 (command "fastboot oem unlock-go"), it said i got no permission for unlocking. and now i'm stuck here. the only thing that works is fastboot mode. from there i can switch to adb using the reboot-to-edl-patch, but then i'm stuck again. device-manager shows device as usual (ports COM & LPT) and the red light is blinking, but command "adb devices" replies an empty list. tried "adb kill-server", replugging phone, rebooting computer, still the same.
so what can i do now?
thanks for helping!
Hi. You can install a fastboot rom in edl-mode with mi flash. I recomend a developer rom for this action. Then you can try the unofficial unlock from the start, but i recomend the official unlock.

Make sure that you have the correct drivers installed on a 64bit machine, with driver signature off. And you cant get adb device list from there, so thats normal. Try to install the 7.1.8 fastboot rom that should work.
Well even m in a same situation.... as u said ur mobile is giving u red led blinks.. ..

There is no problem with miui 8. You just have to follow the steps from this post: [Tips and Tutorials] Redmi Note 3 [ SnapDragon ] - Unlock the BEAST in Seconds!!! . Just google it, because i cant post links here... Make a efs partition backup before you proceed! With a bad flash you can lose your IMEI like lots on the forum did... I would say to unlock your phone with the official unlock. Good luck!

is there any other rom i could try to flash? not to unlock the bootloader afterwards, but to just unbrick my phone?
I would recomend to install a global developer rom for now. And unlock your bootloader with the official method.
---------- Post added at 07:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:09 PM ----------
Just install a developer ROM like you did before. Then you can decide what to do next. I would recommend to unlock your bootloader officially if you want custom ROMs on your phone.
good news: i finally managed to unbrick it!
flashing the fastboot 7.1.8 rom, and then flashing the original emmc_appsboot.mbn file via fastboot:
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot flash abootbak emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot reboot
during reboot holding volume-up + power and starting mi pc suite
..and suddenly it's unbricked!
so happy right now!
Glad to hear that.

Fastboot mode is blue!
To enter fastboot mode press Volume up and plug in usb cable while the device is safely powered down (wait about 20 seconds after power it down).
If you are on new Windows version, you need to disable signature enforcement by pressing shift and restart tab which on top left windows icon and power icon continuously when pc restarted.
You'll see numbered features and press the disable signature enforcement and wait for pc to open.
After that, open flashtool which could download from xda and press install drivers from drivers tab on flashtool.
Choose the fastboot, flashtool and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact drivers and press install. Then your pc could know your sony.
