Family member gave me their Thunderbolt, I now have the Incredible 2., which is 3G. I have an unlimited data plan for some time. If I drop my sim into the thunderbolt and activate is it going to wreck my plan and put me on the new tiered system?
No and the sim from the dinc2 is worthless in a thunderbolt. That's a gsm sim. I came to the thunderbolt from the dinc2 and I still have unlimited data

Maybe call vzw and ask just to be sure but I believe it only applies if you use an upgrade and buy the tbolt from them. Because anyone can buy a phone from anywhere ie(craigslist, ebay, etc) and put it on there lime as long as the ran is clean. But like I said check with them to be safe.

It shouldn't mess with your plan, but you will need a different sim that will allow you to get the 4G lte network.
Like he said above, the sim you currently have is useless.

Thanks guys! Where would I find that SIM?
Just walk into Verizon and they should just give you one. They shouldn't really ask any questions, but if they do, just tell them you picked it up used and just need a sim card for it.

It may cost you $25 to pick one up
And btw you should ROOT The tbolt

Sims are free for VZW customers. You have to get it from a corporate store or order it though because the licensed retailers will charge for it.

I know folks here are mostly enthusiastic about the One so please encourage me for strong reasons to stay...
I am from Verizon ... giving up their unlimited data plan
And from Galaxy Note 2 ... giving up the 3100 mAH battery...
What do you think, if you were me....
I am so torn but HTC One is just too beautiful to pass
I don't necessarily think the One is worth it, but AT&T gets almost every phone or can use the international version. I switched to AT&T from Verizon 2 years ago for that reason, and there has never been a phone on the market that I wanted but couldn't have Well worth it.

I wouldn't give up unlimited data IF they're not throttling data after 5gb. Which I'm told they're doing

Verizon is forcing everyone off unlimited data on next phone upgrade. So even if you stay on Verizon you will not have unlimited data for long unless you buy the phone off contract.

I would do it. Just pulled the trigger myself. and like it was said, you will be buying a full price phone, on verizon anyway since they are killing unlimited plans. And the One is oh so sexy! Time to put my note 1 on craigslist.

I have to second this. Verizon's network coverage was (and still is) great, but their limited selection of phones always drove me nuts! AT&T used to have a reputation for slower network speeds and poor service, but they're worth it now!

Any folks near New York area using ATT service? Do you have coverage when you have some road trip to Bear Mountain or some other hiking place?
My biggest fear was losing data connection when you need the driving direction the most.
Verizon saved me once in Ithaca back then near those wineries, but I am not sure if AT&T can pull off the same there....
Thanks for any comments here.
I am not so concerned about the unlimited thing because my wife will still be using Verizon's unlimited line in our family plan. Not like I lose such option forever.
I'm from Albany, drive down to Long Island a lot, take the Amtrak train occasionally. LTE is hard to come by, but Hspa is pretty consistent. No complaints at all. I jumped from big red in 2011 and haven't looked back. AT&T has been great to me.

I'm in the same boat - gave up VZW + Unlimited data, and I had a Galaxy Nexus. Just got my HTC One after a week wait (argh). What a great device!
AT&T 4G (at least download speeds) are so much slower than VZW's (from speedtests). The upload on AT&T 4G is slightly faster. Overall happy with the service here.
I'm onboard too I switched from Verizon and I'm pleased with the service! Yeah the lte isn't as fast but I barely use data... I was dropping calls left and right on Verizon and I haven't yet on att

Yeah but basically you are paying twice for the phone. Verizon does not lower the price of their plans which includes a new phone subsidy, then on top of that they take the full price of the phone and charge you monthly for that until you pay it off. And lastly a $24 financing charge. Verizon is the ultimate scam corporation.

Yes if its just hardware and you're willing to pay full price they don't care if you're not an AT&T customer. Only matters if you want the contract/subsidized price.
People buy full price phones as gifts for other people all the time and its up to the recipient to go walk in a store and activate a new account or switch their current account over to the new phone.

I'm currently with sprint/boost running a Samsung Galaxy S 3 but I had a chance to play with the At&t HTC one and I must say I'm impressed. Very very nice build quality but I can't get past the lack of removable battery and sdcard slot.
Here's my question, how many of you came from a Samsung device to the HTC one and are overall happy with there decision? 32gb is a lot of space but.....ya its not removable.
How hard is it to unlock the bootloader cause god knows at&t loves locking down there devices?

1. I had the SGS3 on AT&T and have been using my HTC One since May and I am still sitting on 12GB of free space.
2. Battery has been fine, I had to get my original one replaced through warranty because it kept locking up and the it wasn't properly aligned but the new one actually gives me a much better battery life. I went from 2 hr's screen @ 18 hr's used to almost 3 hr's screen at 20's used. Again I have work e-mail and security software installed on my phone which drains the battery a good amount.
3. Depending on what bootloader version you get with the new device you can either use Revone/Moonshine to unlock the bootloader or if you get a device with the newer bootloader you can still use HTCDEV to unlock it the official way through the manufacturer.

Well I decided not to go the route of at&t due to severely restricted data usage and way overpriced data plans. $90 for 6GB of data is pure greediness on at&ts part. I get truely unlimited data for $30 a month on sprint so it just makes no sense to move providers

I collect almost every flagship device from the top OEMs and the HTC One is a huge upgrade from the S3. I've held a S3 today and it felt so horrible in my hands because I'm so used to holding this metal housing on my phone. And the difference in speed is crazy
If you plan on switching to AT&T you have the choice of a 32GB version or 64GB version. Plus cloud storage if you use Dropbox or Drive
And I think we have a AIO(All In One) toolkit now to make it even easier to unlock your bootloader

Pretty sure straight talk uses AT&T towers.
And in my opinion customer service is the biggest downfall of mvnos like straight talk. Go ahead and look up some reviews there are a ton of horror stories, people getting there service or data throttled or even cut off at arbitrary times, and not being able to get it straightened out. Eff that.

You can't expect good consumer service from prepaid providers. Just look at Metro PCS.. No disrespect but when I call consumer service I want someone who I can understand answering my questions
And Straight Talk uses AT&T and T-Mobile towers. You choose which carrier you want when buying the sim. They also support AT&T LTE now.

Not so bad if you do the unlimited data bait & switch. Not all of us have the convenience of reliable coverage from multiple carriers in our areas regardless of what coverage maps show.

Some of us don't care as we are already WITH these carriers. If we are going to use them anyway, why not take advantage of a free phone?? (I am with ATT not verizon but same ol' same ol')
I am sick of peoples insistance that contract free is so great. If you live outside the USA, MAYBE, inside the USA that is not even close to true unless you A.) enjoy crap service B.) barely move C.) Never use your phone.
I would take AT&T or Verizon over any prepaid crap service and featureless "plan" any day of the week, hands down. I have tried many difference prepaid services and they are all the same, terrible spotty service, slow speeds, and hack call quality. Again this does not apply outside the USA, but here, prepaid is AWFUL.
I have no interest in swapping carriers, therefor I chose to use my upgrades and get free/discounted phones since I am going to continue to use AT&T anyway. My plan price does not go down if I do not, there is no advantage to me for not upgrading other than allowing to me to switch carriers.

Some of us don't care about being locked into a contract. Where I live Verizon's coverage is so much better than everyone else's that I'll gladly pay more for it. Also, Verizon is offering former unlimited customers 6 GB of data for the 2 GB price with no additional strings attached. So the little to no data usage part doesn't apply either.
Did the exact same thing. BF $49 and cyber monday free. I took my receipt to best buy and they credited back my card. It was simple and fast.
Ordered mine for $0. Added as a new line. I already have a S3 on unlimited. Planning to break the contract immediately after activation and pay $350 ETF. Pay 1 day prorated monthly charge. Profit :good:. Sell my S3 for $180-$200 on ebay. U cant get such a good phone for $350 and still retain unlimited.
Have chat transcripts with VZW reps..who said doing such a thing will only result in a $350 ETF!!

You can get the deal if you use the loophole. I just did it twice, once for my line and just this week for my wife's line.
We both had upgrades due on our unlimited lines. We have 5 lines total on a national family plan, 2 are feature phones & 3 are smartphones. I transferred our upgrades to the feature phone lines, got the g2's at the promo price, and activated the new phones on the former feature phone lines. Immediately reactivated the feature phones on their respective lines by dialing *228 which deactivated the new phones and automatically cancelled the mandatory data plans required by the upgraded devices. Now that both new phones are free from their original lines, I popped in our SIM cards which reactivated the new phones on our unlimited lines.
So, new phones for promo pricing and unlimited data retained=win/win.
