Broken image icon within google.com on Chrome - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct forum to post in - but I've got this odd broken image icon within the google.com / google.ie main page. I only see it within Chrome browser but not Firefox - I'm running stock Android 5.0 on Samsung Note 3 (SM-N9005).
It's been like this for a while - hopefully the phone isn't infected or compromised in some way - see [http ://imgur.com/QiybtNq] - look in the top right of the search bar
(you'll need to remove the space from the imgur.com link - I've got < 10 posts on the site so external links aren't permitted)
Has anyone seen this before? Any pointers on what to try to dig deeper?
Thanks

Yup, 4.2. It was happening on the previous version (4.1?) as well....
I'm tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only the apps that I actually use - but that is a complete PIA

Yup, I'm using Android 5.0 & Chrome v4.2. Chrome is listed as up to date in the Google Play Store

Try re-installing Chrome. If that doesn't help, erase cache.

Quick update;
Neither re-installing Chrome nor clearing Chrome's cache worked (via "clear data" & "clear cache" in App Info).
Instead I installed the Chrome Beta app and this displays correctly, i.e. the brokem image icon is gone. I've set the Chrome app to disabled as I don't have the option to uninstall it.
Still none the wiser. Ho hum....

Not Able to Install Applications from Android Market

My Streak was working fine. It has 2.2.2 Froyo OS. Today itself I tried to install an application. The application showed Starting Installation. But the application install never happens. I am not able to install apps from the Android Market. For the same I did a factory reset and the hard reset. But nothing worked. Still facing the same issue. Please help.
Try going to settings/applications/manage applications/ scroll to and select market. Tap uninstall updates, and clear cache then give it a try.

Don't know what happened. But the problem disappeared today and I am able to download the apps now from market without any issues. Although all my game progresses are lost since I did a hard reset

Any way to get around carrier restrictions? both in the market and out? Example: during early netflix apk version releases posted here, I couldnt install from using the stock browser. But when I use dolphin, I was able to download/install.
Now, looking for a way to install carrier restricted apps in the android market.

Sometimes removing your SIM card and accessing the market over WiFi will allow you to see more apps in the Market.
Any app that you can DL the APK for can be loaded by checking the unknown sources box in the application settings.
Changing the fingerprint can make many more apps show up.
The stock browser may not download some file types and you have found the easiest solution - use a different browser.

[Q] Google Play auto download all apps (yep noob question)

DEVICE: Nook Color
OS: Currently Android CM7
App: Google Play
Subject: Easiest way to re-download apps
OK, searched Google, searched the forum, used the "Here are the similar threads we found:" and couldn't find a definitive answer.
I originally installed CM7, then tried CM9 and am now going back to CM7. In the meantime, I have installed A LOT of apps from Google play. No, I didn't do any backups using Titanium, but I will once I get the apps back.
Somewhere along the way I got the impression that Google Play automatically downloaded all the apps you already purchased on your "new" device. I did see the screen during initial setup that said something about doing what I thought was downloading the apps, but I read it as if you want to do this later, click cancel.
So, can I trigger a download of all those apps, or do I just need to pony up and click install in Google Play on the device for EVERY app and remember to use Titanium backup the next time I am planning on wiping my device?
Hmm...why not you try to clear data from the play store app via settings?it should prompt you again...

On the device, Go to Play, then settings? No obvious option for that from what I see.
I don't see anything under the device settings either.
go to settings->manage applications->play store->clear data,cache

Found it. OK, now should I get prompted somewhere to re-download? I didn't.
Worse case, I did find a decent spot on the Google Play website I can push the apps from on my PC. Still have to do it one at a time, but easier than through the Nook.
O.O ...then try to uninstall the google play update...it will redownload again...no guarantee that you will get what you want but won't do any harm either...

Well, thanks. I ended up reload my wife's...I upgraded her from a 1GB to a 32GB and got no real upgrade prompt from Google, so fortunately Titanium Backup worked. I guess I misread that prompt. I'm guessing it's just actual data, not apps.

OK, so I wiped mine last night and loaded CM9...and it started downloading the apps (after prompts). That ran like garbage, so I reloaded CM7 again this morning. Nothing...must be a feature of CM9 somewhere?
I am really confused.
It is an option on the Android OS, not particularly on CM7 or CM9.
I don't have the NC in front of me now so I can't confirm for sure but under Settings -> Privacy (or something alike), there is an option called "Automatic restore". If you get it checked, it will automatically re-download and reinstall all apps that saved/stored on your google account. You may uncheck it if you don't like.
.
Try doing exactly like votinh said. It works for me.

I'm wondering if it is only with ICS...or some post CM7 based build. I did find an article on it so at least I feel a little more sane. However the setting you are referring to is only for data. That makes me think there's something different between the CM7 & CM9 builds...perhaps Android itself added the option between the two.

I've tried that before, but I unchecked the box and checked it again to no avail.
Settings > Privacy > Automatic Restore was checked by default. I unchecked then checked again and no apps came down and I was never prompted.
FWIW
Android version 2.3.7
Kernal version 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #171)
Mode version CyanogenMod-7-1116-2011-NIGHTLY-encore

Not sure if this is what you are talking about, but if you go to the bottom of Google Play, and click My Orders and Devices, then on the next page, select the My Devices Tab, I think you can delete it there.
I might try that...maybe

I am having the same issue - did resetting the devices work?
if u dont have too many apps then go on play store find that apps and under stays to check option Auto Update
I FIGURED IT OUT ! =) ... well to some extent ..
In CM 10 i just went to the ROM Manager and choose "Fix Permissions" And after a reboot it started downloading my apps again =)
Now i have used "Fix permissions" in CM RECOVERY mode a hundred times before. But that did not help my apps to auto-download on a new device.
So just to be clear. this is the APP "ROM Manager" NOT the "volup+home+power" CM Recovery "Fix Permissions"

That doesn't re-install the apps after a fresh reload.

Google Maps Issue

Hello guys,
I am experiencing this when I use Google Maps. Scrolling in and out shows these blue artifacts. A picture is attached. It is somehow not possible to use GMaps.
The Device is a Nexus 4, stock ROM (Android 4.4.2), rooted with XPosed (Gravity Box and XPosed GEL settings enabled). GMaps is version 7.7.0.
Any help or a hint to the right direction is appreceated. I have tried to clear cache and App Settings and I also removed the app's updates and reinstalled. Nothing helped. I could not find any help on google.
Thanks!

Maps has been updated a couple of times past 7.7. Might see if the update helps anything. Do you have the same issue when using Maps via your browser of choice?

Its in every map version, even the newest 8.1.
While going maps website with browser it's working.
OK if anytime someone gets in this topic to find an answer to this issue in the future, i found the solution.
the problem was the DPI.
when changing from stock DPI not every DPI is good to work with maps, for example i had 439 dpi and i changed it to 440 dpi now everything works.
all you need to do is uninstalling the maps app, change dpi, reboot phone, and then install maps again and check if this dpi is comfortable.
good luck

cannot update Gmail app (error -504)

Since a month or so, I have problems with updating and installing certain apps.
- Gmail app cannot be updated neither automatically nor manually. I tried clearing app cache, store cache, but no success. I receive error code 504 after at least 10 minutes waiting.
- I had the same problem with Google Keep, then I unistalled it, now I cannot even reinstall it.
- something could be wrong with Google play services too, because sometimes its icon simply disappears, or when I click on it, it says 'This app is not installed'
- I have however no problem with my other apps.
I did a factory reset already twice with full data deletion, but the above problems still persist, as if I did nothing.
Can anybody help me?
Thank you.

Maybe I partially solved by installing google app store 12.3.30. But it's almost impossible to reboot
how you installed it i try to install the latest normally but it fails
so if you have a source APK and how to do it it will help a lot

Before, You have to check "unknown sources" in the Privacy menu.

I tried everything! I installed the previous ROMs ! installed the OpenGApps ! manually installed the Google play store (max work 12.3.30), Gmail (max work 8.10.21), Google App (max work 8.55.8.21). Only Google Play services may instaled on latest version 14.7.99 but still canot upgrate Gmail, Google App, Google Play store, YouTube after this.
Everyone who have RN2 have the same problem ! On all version of MIUI ROM ! I try MIUI 7, 9.2 xiaomi.eu and even GLOBAL 9.6.3.0 !!! FULL WIPE
Everything is useless. Any issue ?
I think our Android 5 became incompatible with new Google apps and then we have to move to lineageOS with Nougat . ..

No way ! Google still work fine on 4.0, 5.0 and up !
Today my RN2 offered to update the 'Google' app. I got the same 504 error.
Now I cannot update/install:
Google
Gmail
Keep
Youtube
...what's next??
Same goes to me. Can't update Gmail, Youtube, Google Maps, Google Search error 504. OS Lollipop and still stuck Google Play Store Version 12.3.3.0. Seems like bad news to those who used Android L. :crying:
Any solution guys?

Question Latest CN ROM 13.5.380 ST (Disabled Google Play)

I have a CN ROM, but after the latest update (13.5.380) it disabled google play store, so I tried clearing cache and storage even removing my google account and see if it works, now as a last resort I factory reset it and voila! all google play apps are gone, can't even install google play, so my question is there anyway to flash it back to its original ROM version? (if there's any link as to where to download it that would be really helpful) thanks in advance.
I am experiencing the same. O don't know what else to do. Can't get into any google accounts. Please help
