Tips and tweaks for running with CM - Samsung Gear S

Thanks to @biktor_gj and his development skills, it all started here, below are the things I've managed to get working either partially or fully. Once a stable CM 13 is released, this post is likely to be updated.
Fully charge your watch first. Things below will take considerable time to configure to your liking; it's better to have enough battery to fully test the configuration.
1. Because CM 12 is a 5.1 build, you'll have to get Play Services from a Lollipop apk (I got mine from apkmirror), and install Gapps (mine is a modular nano; it will take 10-20 minutes). I suggest wiping Dalvik cache from TWRP after installing Gapps - my unit was very unresponsive until I wiped Dalvik and it rebuilt all 98 apps (your app count may vary).
2. Push notifications - get the Desktop Notifications app. Until Bluetooth is working properly, get Desktop Notifications (yes, it's only via WiFi tethering, it's cloud-based, which sucks, I hate it, but oh well). Configure and test it on another Android device first (provided you have one) or a computer, so that you can successfully get notifications to begin with and aren't wasting your time on the tiny 200-dpi Gear S screen. Keep in mind that because it's Wifi-tether, the battery life may suffer. Because I'm still testing various things on and off (primarily with Tasker), I haven't had a chance to test the battery from 100% in a fully-working state.

3. Tasker profiles on the watch; this section is likely to be updated every now and again, as I tweak more and more settings. You have to install Tasker on the watch.
3.1. Watch notifications -> Wake Device and Vibrate.
Get Secure Settings as well as Auto Notification from Play Store, go to Tasker and create a new profile. Profile details/conditions are "Notify" and "Display State Off". "Notify" comes from the Auto Notification module/plugin. Configure -> Action Type = "Created Only"; Persistency = "Non-Persistent", Apps = check "Desktop Notifications". Task would have Vibration and Wake Device (Secure Settings -> Actions -> Wake Device). Vibration duration is whatever you choose; mine is set to 200ms.
3.2. [not ideal but most reliable] Cover to Wake -> upon covering the device light sensor while the screen is off, it wakes the device and briefly lights it up for a couple of seconds so you see the time, etc.
Profile conditions are "Light Level 0 to 1" and "Display State Off". Task is - "Wake Device" from Secure Settings. Configure that as you wish.

I appreciate your advice! I personally like to install (no frills Cpu) and clock the device do 300-600mhz for extra battery savings. You said it right, we are lucky to have Biktor!!!

Don't we have to have a compatible kernel for that? If so, do you know we actually have it?

No frills Cpu works like a charm, I have been using it since day 1, I test it on every device I get honestly its the best interface with the most compatibility, depending on Your kernal it works on the note 5 lol

Not at all, I apply on boot, games don't play well when it's clocked that low on powersave but it lasts and the more updates the better it gets stability wise, I always thought no frills caused some of the issues. Enable SU in developer settings if you have not

1. For some reason, the shaking profile isn't working as well as I had hoped. I'm looking into either adjusting it further, or incorporating the accelerometer "face-up", proximity or pressure sensing profile, which I'm not entirely sure would work since there may be no sensors for that on Gear S.
Accelerometer isn't that great, either, see below - the watch is on its side, yet the accelerometer says that it's facing up.
2. Tasker light sensor isn't working for me either - with the condition of "Light sensor values 1 through 5 + Display State Off" followed by "Wake Device" task, nothing is happening when I cover the light sensor while the device is off. I'll have to do a bit more digging on how the light sensor is handled in Tasker.
3. Neither proximity nor orientation sensors are being detected by the Sensor Test app. My hopes for the pressure sensor quickly vanished when I discovered that it's not the screen pressure but atmospheric pressure.
4. The light sensor monitoring was off (genius) - got the light sensor to work. Set the profile to "Screen Off + Light Level 0 to 1" -> Wake Device. So far, this seems to be the most reliable waking option. EDIT: unless you're wearing long sleeves, of course. Just can't catch a break with this screen wake.

Are there any other apps that you'd recommend for this watch? I currently use calendar widget: month, and mighty text. I had to change the dpi to get mighty text to scale properly. Coincidentally, changing the dpi also allowed me to use the calculator widget.

I'll be waiting for the CM 13 update. If Bluetooth becomes a reliable tethering option (right now I'm paired to the phone but cannot browse internet) and sensors get a better implementation, I'll think of more things to do. So far the shake sensor presents a concern, as it works on the first try but stops on the third or fourth attempt (the shake movement of the wrist is literally identical).

I recommend either dynamic notifications, or acdisplay for a better lockscreen. You can configure them to turn on the screen for a few seconds when you get notification.
Set their background to pure black for battery savings.
Edit: they're nice but I have to say don't bother with the little ram we have. I feel kitkat rom would've been better to port to Gear S
Edit 2: Install this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.azasoft.free.swapper set it to 120mb. helps with ram.
Also this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chummy.jezebel.blacked.out and apply in themes app. helps with amoled power savings

Not available on "Next" to update the application .apk. This is due to the resolution of 200dpi. Therefore it is necessary to change the settings at 180dpi resolution. But it comes a full restart of the interface. After the installation is restarted again to return 200 dpi. Is it possible to update the application without changing the dpi? I have no established GAPPS for ideological reasons.

There's an experimental lollipop version of app settings xposed module that lets you choose dpi of specific apps. I'll post a link when i can get to a computer. (At work). Then you can set dpi of package installer only

According to the link below, pushbullet allows you to sync notifications between two or more android devices, so this should have the desired feature of receiving notifications from the phone that the Gear S is paired with.

I think it's a paid feature and works through internet though. I actually installed SWAPPLink and it does notification through bluetooth connection (It crashes often, but notifications still work, just hit ok on the crash message and it'll keep working)
Also I got it from the Swapplink Google + community, where he posts beta versions. I don't know when last the play store version has been updated.

The rondo Icon pack is a free pack of very Clear and simple icons. It fits perfectly to the small Display of the gear s.

what is this tasker thingy?

Hi guys! I dont know if this thread is alive anymore. But I'm currently using the latest? android 5.1.1 on my gear s and its awesome! compared to regular tizen...
For notifications i'm using m2d sender / receiver. it works perfectly! pushes all notifications from my phone to my watch. in the new update you can set m2d receiver up to be used on a watch. works very well!=) check it out!
The only issue I have with running android on is the RAM. i only have amax of 100MB ram free! Anyone being able to free up more?

Hello,
how can i use on CM the Heart Rate Sensor and UV Sensor?

there is an app for bluetooth notifications between gear s cm and android phone?

List of useful apps - verified to work on the Note

I thought we could list useful apps we've installed, and a quick summary of why. While browsing the Market I see a lot of comments "doesn't work with X", so I figured since we are blazing a new trail with our Notes we can save each other some aggravation and list ones we've found that definitely work.
Missed Message Flasher by TomatoX. Calendar only gives you one notification of an upcoming appointment, this lets you get multiple notifications until you stop it. Works for missed calls, texts, calendar and many others. I found the test notification in the setup does NOT work, but it does work for a real appointment. Haven't tried it with texts, calls yet. Edit 2/21, so far it doesn't appear to work with texts, let me know if you find otherwise. May try other options tonight. Edit 3/5, I'm still not sure I'm getting repeated notifications for anything other than calendar items, still testing.
Opera Mobile by Opera. Can't stand that the built-in browser can't identify as a desktop browser, but Opera Mobile can.
GPS Status & Toolbox by EclipSim. Nice real-time verification of all of your GPS stats, accelerometer, level, compass. Nice bonus, shows battery stats too (temp, %).
HotSpot Toggle by Mehdy Bohlool. One-click activation of the wifi hotspot. A little annoying that it doesn't line up with the other icons on the home screens, but it works.
XiiaLive Lite by Visual Blasters. For streaming ASX/WMA. I have a lifetime Internet account with SiriusXM. The sound quality from XiiaLive is much better than the SiriusXM app - the bit rate from the Sirius app is awful. I'm using this with a free online service called MusicDock. Use their "Windows Mobile" site (mentioned at the bottom of their home page) along with this app and you are golden.
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Simple, but works to modify the audio output, including on Blutooth.
Added 2/22
Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. Same as Battery Percentage but is half the size (1/2 MB vs. 1 MB) and is easier to read IMO. No way to modify the stock indicator w/o rooting, so for now I'm using this instead.
CPU Spy by storm717. Very small. Lets you see how much time your CPU spends in each speed, including how much time it sleeps. If your battery is draining quickly this will let you see if it is ever sleeping.
Added 2/29
Word Feud by Berthussen IT. Scrabble-like game.
Added 3/05
AirDroid by SAND Studio. Way better than Keis Air - ability to transfer files, txt messaging, etc via wifi.
Music Volume EQ by K & K Design. Works well, autostarts, includes features other than just a basic EQ.
AndroSensor by Fiv Asim. Displays outputs and current draw from all of the sensors in the Note, including barometer.
Added 3/13
Screen Filter by haxor industry. Much more effective than using Dimmer (listed below). Allows you to dim just as much as you want, or as little as you want. So you can go really dark at let's say 20%, or if you just think the stock auto-brightness is a little too bright, you can permanently apply a 75% filter to dim it down just a little and still let the auto feature do its job. I'm currently trying that. Only problem is as you get to the really dark settings you get a noticable gray coloration to the whole screen - minor and an acceptable trade-off. You can set up multiple home screen shortcuts for multiple settings. Can work along with Dimmer but it is pointless, I just uninstalled Dimmer.
Added 3/23
Screen On by Konstantinos Polychronis. Keeps the screen on for selected apps, or when charging. For instance, Google Maps where you don't want the screen to turn off (and loose your position). This is a tentative recommendation - at first it was flaky (didn't keep the screen on) for some apps but seems to be better after rebooting. I'll report back after a while. After selecting your applications from the list don't forget to enable the application with the checkbox in the upper left corner.
Calendar Snooze by Bitfire-development. Adds lots of snooze options to calendar notifications, more initial notification options and more reminder notification options. I still use Missed Message Flasher for text and Google Talk, but I turned off reminders for calendar in MMF and use Calendar Snooze instead. Mostly because it allows you to set a pattern for vibrate instead of having just one long vibration. I notice it better when it pulses several times.
Added 4/9
Increasing Ring by sashomasho. Increases the volume of your ringer and/or clock alarm, so you can start off completely silent or nearly silent and increase the volume over time. Gives you a chance to grab your phone and answer or reject a call without it blaring at top volume on the first ring. Note that it increases the volume based on your current ring setting so make sure you turn your ring volume below full volume or it will appear that the app isn't working.
Can recommend but don't use anymore
Dimmer (Night Mode) by geekyouup. One-click ability to dim your display as far as it will go. The stock brightness slider will only take you to "30", this takes you to "10". A noticeable difference especially in a dark room. Screen Filter (listed above) works much better and is more versatile so I removed this app.
Can no longer recommend
Equalizer by Smart Android Apps. Would randomly stop modifying the audio stream even though the app was still listed in the task manager. Also had to re-start after every reboot. Found another equalizer (listed above) which doesn't have either problem. Also I think it sounds better.
SiriusXM Internet Radio by SiriusXM Radio Inc. Doesn't let you force a specific quality, and found an aftermarket solution (listed above) which sounds much better.
Battery Percentage & Temp by Global Developers Adds a battery percentage display as a permanent notification. Battery Indicator (above) is easier to read and the app is half the size of this one.
Please list your own useful apps...
Good list, although this probably belongs in the Galaxy Note Themes and Apps forums.
Some other adds:
Skitch - Evernote add-on that supports sketching. A lot like S Memo, but it has a bit deeper integration with Evernote if you're using that.
iAnnotate Lite - Download from the Samsung App Store to ensure Galaxy Note compatibility. Great tool for marking up PDFs.
Currents - Works great on the Note. The bigger screen really lets you take advantage of the magazine-like layout similar to what you see on a tablet.
I'll add Sketchbook (Mobile) to the list. Pro is still tablet only.
Also, Fruit Ninja and Spirit HD, both of which I've found are great with the S-Pen. The latter locked up and crashed last I played, though; not sure if this will be a recurring issue. EDIT 2/22 - Skip Spirit HD for now. The crashing is consistent, closing the app after two or three levels every time.

Likewise. I use Tweetcaster Pro, a lot better than all of the twitter app out there.
I use Mr. Number for blocking spam / private / blocked numbers. But for some reason the app thinks I'm not in the US, hence why I'm having issues with it at the moment but it's still working regardless.
Streamzoo / MyTubo - for picture editing. Not close to instagram but it does the trick.

Lol.....indeed.
Made a few updates to my list.
For anyone that uses a bluetooth headset and is tired of pocket dials, Proximity Service works well to keep the screen off while in the pocket. It takes a bit to get used to it with regard to how you work with the device, but it is less of of an issue with the Note than it was with my LG Optimus.

[MOD] HTC Car Mode Xposed! (Version 2.3) [Lollipop Compatible!]

The HTC Sense Car Mode app had some features removed or changed from the previous versions. Namely, statusbar pulldown has been blocked, along with switching apps and basically multitasking.
The reason for this is probably safety; to discourage drivers from tinkering too much with their phones while driving - and while I'm fully behind that I believe in giving people options - which is why I created this module!
So far it allows you to:
Bring back multitasking (status bar and 'recent apps' functionality).
Release the 'Home' button to let it go back to the default launcher.
Replace the default 3-Tap gesture action with anything you want!
Turn Wi-Fi and GPS on or off at startup and shutdown.
Bypass the exit confirmation dialog.
Automatically close apps opened from within the Car App on shutdown (requires root to be fully functional!)
And more features coming in all the time!
If you love the HTC Car app as much as I do, you'll enjoy this!

Information
Why disable a safety feature?
The HTC Car App introduced those blocking 'features' for an obvious reason: to discourage people from fumbling around with their phones while driving.
That's a good and important cause, but unfortunately it's not a very smart method of doing it - which is why this module was created. Consider the following scenario: You're in your default navigation app with the music player (which is controllable by the car app) running in the background. You want to skip the currently playing track. If everything's at stock, the new restrictions make it an annoyingly long process: You have to click the home button, enter the music control applet, skip the track as you normally would, then click the home button again, find the navigation app's icon and re-launch it. Without those restrictions all you do is pull down the statusbar, click the 'skip' button on the music player's active notification tile, and pull it back up.
HTC's restrictions - which are supposed to increase safety and attention while driving actually make it longer and more attention-consuming to perform such tasks.
This module allows you to overcome those restrictions, mostly, but I must still say - and I can not overstate this enough:
DRIVE SAFELY!
DON'T OPERATE YOUR DEVICE WHILE DRIVING !
Play music, navigate, make and take calls - but do so safely without fumbling around.
If anything doesn't work with less then three touches of the screen, or if it requires you to look at your device for more than a split-second glance - either forget about it or pull over! It's not worth it!
Works as advertised. Upgraded from Sense 5.5 just so I could enable this mod and get to my notifications. Thanks!
Very cool. I use the HTC car app quite a bit and always hated that I had to close it to access anything else. What other tweaks are possible? It would be nice to be able to switch the default music app to Google Music. Disabling wifi on launch would also be slick.

Very cool. I use the HTC car app quite a bit and always hated that I had to close it to access anything else. What other tweaks are possible? It would be nice to be able to switch the default music app to Google Music. Disabling wifi on launch would also be slick.

Currently I'm mostly battling with basic things like making the 'recent apps' button work and making the settings toggleable without restarting. Once I get the basics working, I'll start seeing what else I can tinker with. Switching the default music app is not going to be easy because it's deeply integrated within the app, but I'll see what I can do.
As for the wifi, that shouldn't be too difficult.
Glad to hear it's working on other devices as well.
Please add support for all apps in car mode! Currently you can add only a few apps .. For example you can't add Torque
Looks like the 1.1 version changes caused it to stop working with the M7 :crying:
ETA: Looks like it functions properly if "take over home button" is disabled. With that unchecked you can access the pulldown menu as well as reach the desktop or recent apps using the home button.

It might be something else, I noticed that the settings won't take until you run the settings interface at least once.
Please try to re-enable the setting and see if anything changes.
Thanks for the report!

I am pretty sure that I ran settings app prior to trying it out, not completely sure though. I just toggled the home screen option and get the same results. It only works if it is not selected.

Hmm. I'm not getting that on the M8, but I'll look into it.
Unfortunately I don't have an M7 to test on.
Could you for the sake of testing go to the settings interface - uncheck both boxes, then recheck both boxes, then restart your device and see if it works then?
Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I think I know what's causing it:
The mods don't take if the car app is running in the background because it hooks into methods as they load.
There's a command to kill it if it's running in the background and settings have been changed, but it might not have taken - or rather, it also won't be run if settings are at their default state, so if you install the mod, then run the car app, then load the module interface and change nothing - it still won't be set.
Next version will handle this more properly, I hope (currently writing it).

Torque paid. Maybe free is different, but from what I can tell, HTC Car doesn't blacklist any apps from being added to one of the screens.
I agree, there doesn't seem to be a limit on which apps you can add and which you can't.
Your issue must be related to the app itself. Since I'm unfamiliar with Torque, I really can't tell.
Are there any other apps, as far as you can tell, that you can't add?

If I do that when I run the HTC car app the home button will open recent apps if double tapped but otherwise it just returns to car mode when home is pressed. If I disable it pressing home takes me to the desktop and double tapping it takes me to recent apps. I am running NuSenseSIX based off the m8-base fwiw. If you have any tweaks you would like tested let me know, I can provide logcats and such.
Dialer not working
Thank you for this awesome mod. I'm not sure if it's the ROM I'm running, but I can't seem to launch the dialer using this module. All other buttons work normally, as well as the added functions of this module.
I'm running the Venom ROM on the M8.
Does anyone else have this problem?

[Guide][WIP] G3 — Tweaks for better battery life

OK so I'm sure some of you know how to do this but others may not.
I'm trying to see what can be done to improve battery life until hopefully we get a custom recovery and custom kernels.
If any of you guys have any other tips on what you've done to improve your G3's battery usage or just anything at all that you think would benefit others please share...
** These are all assuming that your phone is rooted
I've installed SELinux Mode Changer
Spoiler
found here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux
I then set it Permissive and to run at Boot.

Kernel Tweaker
*Or whatever app you prefer for Kernel Tweaking*

* Some great info on the Governors and their parameters can be found here:
https://android.googlesource.com/ke...5674e696/Documentation/cpu-freq/governors.txt
My OnDemand Governor Settings :
I've set max frequency to 1958400
Optimal_Max_Freq to 1497600
Powersave_bias to 50
Explanation of PowerSave_Bias
" powersave_bias: this parameter takes a value between 0 to 1000. It defines the percentage (times 10) value of the target frequency that will be shaved off of the target. For example, when set to 100 -- 10%, when ondemand governor would have targeted 1000 MHz, it will target 1000 MHz - (10% of 1000 MHz) = 900 MHz instead. This is set to 0 (disabled) by default."
Sampling_rate to 60000
*I'll add more changes here after I test them out for a few days.

System Monitor
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.systemmonitor
To monitor my changes and verify they've been made.
** SELinux Mode Changer is needed because the phone will simply reboot after making some of these changes and whatever you've changed will go back to default.
Alternatively you can also use System Tuner found here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw
System Tuner is free where as System Monitor is not. Plus System Tuner combines the functions of both System Monitor and TricksterMod.
App Ops
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schurich.android.tools.appopsstarter
This app is actually just a shortcut to the Hidden Permission Manager.
You can manage which Permissions you want each app to have. For Example one that I often " switch off" is the " keep awake " permission.
For example I have Google Play Services Keep Awake set to OFF.
App Ops is a powerful tool which can lead to things not working properly if you don't know what you're doing. Google Play Services is fine for me to have setup this way however it may not be for you.
It's a very good tool to limit your User Apps Permissions at the very least.
Greenify
Spoiler
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
Greenify hibernates your apps when they are not in use. You can use it with Xposed or without, however the features you gain through using it with Xposed makes it an even better tool. One of those features is being able to hibernate system apps. There are also options for keeping your hibernated apps notifications present.
Better Battery Stats
Spoiler
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
This app allows us a fairly in depth look into what's draining our batteries the most. It also allows us to chase down Wakelocks and then we can either disable them entirely or at least use Greenify to Hibernate those apps if possible.
Lux Auto Brightness
Spoiler
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1944921
This app controls your screen brightness much better than stock does in my opinion. It also allows you to create profiles and overall just gives you more control over your screen. Obviously the screen is the biggest offender of battery drain so this app is a must have.
Deep Sleep Battery Saver
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.batrsaver
DS Battery Saver will constantly put the phone into Deep Sleep Mode while the screen is off. Without a custom kernel yet for this phone I've been playing with this app again after not using it for quite some time.
The Pro version allows you to create a custom profile with time frames for Deep Sleep during the Weekdays and Weekends. Everything can be controlled from Mobile Data to Sync.
Juice Defender
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.latedroid.juicedefender
Juice Defender is similar to Deep Sleep Battery Saver. You can conorol things like WiFi and Data when your screen is off and your phone is sleeping. There are quite a few options to choose from!
So if your not having the best of luck with DS Battery Saver or just want to try something different, give this a shot.
Titanium Backup
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Titanium Backup is an extremely useful app to have! Among the various things this app can do for you the one that'll most help your battery is to Freeze or Uninstall apps on your phone called Bloat. For example anything having to do with Verizon I've either frozen or completely removed.
The less silly apps you have running and on your phone the better battery and performance you'll have.
** Ongoing List of Apps that can be frozen via Titanium can be found here

WakeLock Detector
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
This WakeLock Detector is very easy to use. Plus it has the option from within it to Greenify apps and it can link you to the Web with more information about the various WakeLocks your phone has.
Boot Manager
Spoiler
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45290496
This app requires Xposed. It's very simple and easy to use. Just highlight the apps you don't want to start every time your phone boots up.
If you have around 200 Apps like some people do... This could be very useful and not having all those apps loaded up in memory should save you some juice!
WiFi HotSpot On/Off Manager
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avg.wifiassist
This handy app manages your WiFi connections based on your cell tower location. It automatically will turn your WiFi on and off for. Saving you more juice. Thanks to @oo3 for this one!

Knock On Toggle via AnyCut
Spoiler
I've created a Shortcut to enable and disable the Knock On feature. One of the various WakeLocks on this phone is the Knock On service used to either wake the phone up or to lock it. This is a fairly easy thing to do and I've only just started playing with it, but figured I'd share!
Grab AnyCut here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spring.bird.anycut
Then simply find Knock On and it will create a shortcut to the Knock On settings for you so you can Toggle it on and off as you please.
Auto Run Manager / ROM Toolbox
Spoiler
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autorun
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro
We can use either App to Disable an Apps Receivers then Freeze it altogether. My screen shots here show how I did this to LIA Informant.
We can do this when simply freezing something using Titanium Backup doesn't actually stop an app from running and keeping a WakeLock. LIA Informant wasn't Hibernating even after freezing it and using Greenify. After using this method, it's no longer present.

* I'm back to using SetCPU again as I've just had the best luck with it.
Some people cannot use OnDemand Governor, due to their phones freezing and rebooting. I'm not sure what to say on that subject other than try SELinux Mode Changer and use the latest SuperSu. That's my setup and I don't have any freezes or reboots.
Of course we don't have all the control we'd like to have on these stock kernels, and it appears depending on how users have everything set up that results will obviously vary so keep that in mind.

Good post. Lux is amazing and seems to improve the contrast. That might be all in my head tho.
System tuner is also a good tool for changing the CPU Governor and I/O Scheduler. You can also use it to disable GTALK and Checkin services for Google Services Framework and Google Play Services. I'm getting insane battery life after rooting and applying these tweaks.

Well I wasn't sure myself either until I tried it. I was able to make changes and they would all apply and look good however my phone would just reboot and the changes I made would be back to default.
So I tried the SELinux mode Changer and set it to Permissive and that didn't happen anymore.
Basically it changes the Kernel security from what I've gathered.
There's obviously more to it than that just I'm not a Linux pro really

Let me know what you think. There are other Xposed Modules such as MinMinLock that can limit app start ups. However that module requires you type a password every time you launch an app under its control, which I find annoying myself.
I'm also trying to see if Boot Manager truly stops the apps from being started. There are reports of it not doing so. From my end it appears to be working

Exclusive to XDA: Alpha Release of Gear Notification Extender(Updated: 3/23/2015)

As the title calls out this is an ALPHA release of my new app: Gear Notification Extender
FULL DISCLOSURE: THIS VERSION WILL EXPIRE 7 DAYS FROM INSTALL. THERE IS A PAID APP IN THE PLAY STORE . IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THAT PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD.
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS ALPHA CODE. IT HAS BUGS, IT MAY MISS NOTIFICATION, IT MAY REPLY TO THE WRONG PERSON.
I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA OR HARM TO YOUR PHONE OR GEAR DUE TO THE DOWNLOADING OR USE OF THIS APPLICATION!!
IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE HELPING TO WORK OUT THESE BUGS PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD.
Ok now that you know the risks, lets get to the good part:
What is this?
This app will allow Google Hangouts, GMAIL( and in theory many more) to interact with your Gear S in a more advanced fashion. To be specific you will now be able to reply to Hangouts and GMail messages from your Gear S.
This app integrates with the normal notification model of the Gear S, so these notifications will be in the same place your current notifications are and you will interact with them in a very similar fashion. This is not an attempt to turn our Gear S into a Android Wear Interface.
Things to keep in mind that will likely never change:
1) Notifications Reply capability is lost when my app gets forcefully stopped or you reboot your phone. You can either have old notifications dismissed from the gear each time the service starts or you can leave them there, but reply will not work on old notifications.
2) As stated above this is NOT a Hangout client, you cannot initiate conversations from this app.
How to Install:
1) Install the APK on your phone
2) Open the app on your phone
3) Enable Notifications for this app(First option on the app screen)
4) Set preferences.
5) Enable Gear Notification Extender in the Gear Manager Notifications window
6) Disable Notification for any apps in gear manager that you want going through Gear Notification Extender(Though you can leave both enabled, you'll get your notification twice).
7) Some Apps(Hangouts 2.5) need android wear application installed before they add the proper actions to the notification. I suggest installing it from google play.
8) Enjoy
Please See the attached screen shots if you are having issues installing.

Features:
Sound/Vibrate control
Special Options for Hangouts and GMAIL
Ability to select which application you get notifications for.
Ability to have Gear Extender look for notifications with actions that the stock app will ignore and handle these notifications even without selecting the app specificially.
Links in messages turned into actions in notification that you can send to Opera
All Actions that are available for a Notification in Android are turned into actions on the Gear. Main action(Usually Reply) gets Icon, all the rest are in the option menu.
All notification with Reply also get the hangouts Preselected text template replies(User defined coming soon).
All Notification have "Open On Phone Action"
Images in Hangouts will come through
Dismiss/Mark as read capabilities.
Avatars can be displayed as backgrounds for Notifications, Also works for music apps that put album art in the notification window DO NOT USE
Handling of Ongoing Notifications like Music Notifications. Will update existing notification in Gear Extender rather than generating new items, to avoid clutter.
Debugger option to allow for testing.
User defined text templates(Your additions are added to the top of the list pulled from Hangouts)
Ability to pull actions out of advanced notification(Google Music, Amazon Music...) "Dig Deep"
Option to have text templates or keyboard reply as default
Workaround for certain languages(Turkish) due to Samsung Bug
Fixed issue with reading notification on watch causes phone and watch notification to disappear(When you had both Dismiss options on). Should now leave the notification on the watch even though the notification on the phone is dismissed.
Better support for other IM applications
Quick fix for some new bugs introduced with text templates
Fixed issue with GMAIL labels not pulling the email bofy
Per-app settings
Smart Relay Support
Known bugs/Limitations:
1) All notifications handled in Gear Notification Extender go in one bucket in the Gear S Notification section. I am working on trying to break them out by source, and maybe even by sender, but no promises.
2) Currently when you read a dismiss a notification on you phone, your options are to leave it on the gear or remove it from the gear, unfortunately I have no been able to simply mark them as "read".
3) Some Languages on some phones seem to be incompatible and cause the the notifications on the watch to be blank.(Workaround now included)
4) I'm sure lots more.
Demo Expiration 7 Days from install.
Version 1.6.1 4/11/2015
- Add Sub Text Option
- Add Remove duplicates option
- Add support for Cloud Magic Email
- FIx issue with crashing when replying to dead notifications
Version 1.6.0 3/23/2015
- Fix for Smart Relay
- Fix for Calendar
- Add ability to specify default action index in per-app settings for "Dig Deep" actions. Primarily for Music players to specify which action button you want as the default.
- Added Notification Actions in "Dig Deep" parsing. Allows for actions that show in the notification panel to work with Gear S.
Version 1.4.9 2/13/2015
- Fix for GMail on Lollipop
Version 1.4.7 1/27/2015
- Per App Settings: Long press on the application in the application list to bring up settings for that app. You can use this for Hangouts/Gmail if you uncheck Hangouts on the main screen.
- Support for ENotify Email Client
- Experimental: Number of Vibration and Sounds
- New app specific setting to turn off notifications without actions(should help eliminate duplicate and garbage notifications)
- Bug fixes.
- New Demo Mode(good for 7 Days from Install)
Version 1.4 1/14/2015
-Can now reply to notifications as long as they were not dismissed individually on the phone. if they are grouped and you dismiss the group, reply should still work
-Instead of constantly updating the event on the watch removing the actions instead if you attempt to reply to a dead notification a new message will be sent to the watch letting you know. For now all actions will cause this. I will fix this to allow links and other action added by my app to still work shortly.
-Grouped messages will now be broken out and details displayed, which was the main reason for dismissing from phone to force ungrouping
- No replies should get lost without an error and more importantly should never go to the wrong recipient.
- The occasional lockup on some emails should be resolved
- Better whatsapp support
- Pausing notifications when not connected preference. If this preference is selected then when you reconnect your watch it will not get all the notifications it missed when it was disconnected.
- Cleaned up the Dismiss on Watch setting to dismiss all notifications for that notiification group(sender).
- Removed Dismiss on Phone settings as this only leads to dead notifications. I will look at better ways to do this in the future.
Version 1.3 1/9/2015
Bug Fix to remove reply action on dismissed notifications
- Most apps had an issue replying to dismissed notifications. I will be looking to provide better implementation for this in the future, but it's better to remove the action than to have them not work right.
- You will only be able to reply to last notification for a given application and only until the notification is dismissed on the phone.
- Sorry for any inconvenience, but it wasn't reliable the way it was anyway.
Version 1.2 1/1/2015
Significantly improved memory management. App should now have a lower memory footprint, and should have more stable memory usage. Should no longer get out of memory that would stop notifications from sending.
New feature to mute recurring ongoing notifications, such as video/phone calls that run timers. Updates still go, but no sound or vibrate.
New feature to dismiss notifications from phone as they are sent to watch. This will stop most notification groupings, which is what stops us from being able to reply.
Better Icon coloration.
I also switched back to having the title icon on the watch have the icon from the last notification rather than the generic Gear Extender Icon.
What's Coming?
1) Obviously Bug fixes
2) Better formatting with images.
3) Better GMAIL formatting.
4) You tell me what you want.

Official App Now available on Google Play(1.4.9 posting soon, but you guys get to test first if you want), Galaxy Store coming soon:

Thanks. ...
Thank you for your work, looking forward to updates. I have been using Notify Gear, but seems hit or miss. Hoping this works out. Would prefer to stick to the stock notifications on the Gear just with the ability to reply.
Looking forward to checking it out when I get a GS.

What phone do you have and what version of android are you running? You probably don't have KitKat? I'll look but I think 4.4 is the minimum os version this can support.
Sounds promising, will be interested to see how this develops. Thanks for your efforts so far.

Thank you... So i flash Android 4.4 to my Galaxy S3 and now I install it :good:
Not sure what happened, but when I woke up this morning after installing last night my watch stayed hot and would not function properly at all. Ended up having to restore the watch

Very strange. I can't imagine how it could be related to the app. The app has no watch component, except the stock notifications. The only way I could see that is if the the phone was continually sending notifications.
I've been running on my phone for days.
Out of curiosity do you have "Other" Selected?
Was your phone hot? or irregularly drained?
Wake me up when this is out of Alpha beta and on primetime
Yes exactly, it was extremely hot and battery drained very fast

Ahh the phone did, well at least thats in the realm of possibilty. I havent had this issue. What phone do you have? Can you post a screenshot of your settings screen in the app.
Sorry meant watch is doing on that...
I know everyone has diff experiences, but mine hasn't acted wired in any way. It seems to be working as advertised at present. Just looking forward to it being developed more. I have had apps, not quite sure which one it is yet, that seems to lag and stop my watch from working, I want to say it is one of the news apps. but I ended up having to reset the watch, and uninstalling and re-installing Samsung Gear to get things working again and not restore anything heh.
can work with gear2 .....thanks

No this will not work with the Gear 2. I have a version I am working on for the gear 2, but it is not as far along as this one.
Sorry.

Since Nothing actually installs on the watch for this to work the on;y way this app could affect your watch is if it was just continually sending notifications to the watch, which you would notice.
I'll keep an eye out for possibilities, but I'm thinking some other app is the culprit.

[WATCHFACE] Pictures Watchface

Hi guys,
Please let me introduce you my first Watchface (dev still in progress).
Available for free on Google Play, follow this link :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.yochi376.pictureswatchface
It's an highly customizable watchface, with many colors settings, etc. and the possibility to set your own image as background.
Slide-show of selection of pictures is also available
The three circles indicates the seconds, minutes and hours, and are animated when ambient mode is exited.
It's possible to configure the behavior in ambiant mode (no ambiant screen, ambiant screen with anti-alias, or ambiant screen "full eco" without anti-alias)
Press 3 times the watchface to launch your favorite application, as a really useful shortcut !
Please leave me your impress/comments here or on Google Play
Thanks !

Hi Joten ;
Thanks for your positive feedback. I'll implement the possibility to display the battery percents (wear + mobile) in a future release
Nice watch face
Currently i', using watch face plan for my moto 360 2nd. gen. because i can start a wear app by clicking a "button" on watch face. In my case i assigned shazam... If i hear a good song -> turn clock -> click -> shazam listening
Maybe you can assign 1..3 buttons on the lower edge for starting apps?
Hi MrWGT,
Thanks for your feedback
It could be a very nice idea, I will add this feature in my next tasks for the future release !

Your request has been implemented in the new release (1.05). Press 3 times the screen to start your favorite application
Here's the full changelog :
v1.5 :
- New feature : 3-taps on watchface to launch your favorite app !
- Now traduced in Spanish
- Configure the behavior in ambiant mode (eco)
- New configuration screen design
- Better global performance
3tap works great
But configuration from phone does not work well... If I select e.g. a different font I've to click multiple times that font to view it on clock.
Also changing background picture works only sometimes and only when I click on "clock circle" multiple times after selecting picture.
I've selected a black glow for clock with maximum intensity but it would be better for readability on brighter pictures to have a larger one (with white clock color)
Like drop shadow, drop shadow size, drop shadow hardness and transparency when working with text in photoshop
My preferences are white text for clock and date, normal picture background. If the picture contains bright colors the white text is hard to read. So a drop shadow behind clock/date would be great to increase contrast.
Hi MrWGT
Thanks for your feedback about the last release.
Does the settings from mobile app work well before the last update ? (i.e. under v1.04)
I'll try to correct these behaviors, but it seams to work correctly on my GS6 edge + moto 360 2
Thanks !

Installed new apk but no pictures are shown on my moto 360 2nd gen. Only once i saw a picture on the "on watch setup" but i disappeared 1s later. Don't know why...
Edit: Uninstalled apk and installed again... Now none of the settings made on the phone were pushed to the watch. Setting on phone shows totaly different settings - watch face on watch stays "standard"
PS: You can send me a test apk if you want...
Edit: managed to transfer pictures from phone to watch.
1) open watch settings - select picture.
2) select new picture on phone and click ok
3) watch shows downloading.
4) leave select picture menu in watch
5) enter select picture menu on watch
Transferred picture is shown and is selectable.
But only this steps transfers pictures from phone to watch.
Question: how to delete pictures?

No way for the moment, but the "pictures history" only keep the last 5 pictures you've set.
When you try to upload a sixth picture, it will overwrite the first one
MrWGT, the v01.08 has been released. Might fix your issues, can you please try again ? Thanks in advance !
v01.08 also give you the possibility to set the cap of circles to round or square

Did not work... But... Found the reason!
I'm using "switch display off" and do not use the ambient mode. If display is off none of the settings are applied. If display is on or ambient mode is enabled all works ok.
So you must switch on the display before starting the transfer of the settings.
Feature request: set timeout for "switch display off"

Hell ... I never use the setting "switch display off", I prefer ambient mode instead... I'll pay you a beer, many thanks !
I'll try to wake up the wear while setting the watchface.

Unfortunatly I think I can't do that. We don't have access to this timeout. Might I could acquire the wakelock during a specific time then release it, but that's not "rules complient" with Android Wear development politics :/ I'll check that.

I've seen some watch face which offer a timeout setting.
Example: Flip Clock offers a "custom screen-off time in seconds" under useful settings and tweaks

Okay nice, I'll check that I think it's more a workaround than a clean dev, but I can add a "tweak" page in the settings
Found 2 issues:
1) I use "display off" so I've do turn my wrist to turn on clock. There's a (huge) delay from backlight on until clock is drawn. Sometimes the delay is so long that the clock is only visible for 1-2s. Sometimes the bw ambient clock is shown before the normal clock.
2) if I use ambient mode and choose "eco mode disable" the circle for seconds stops moving but it's still shown. Annoying...
Maybe you could consider the following requests
A) option to disable second circle.
B) option to disable all circles. One option for normal display and one for ambient mode.
I would prefer ambient mode with just clock and date. And normal mode with circles for hour and minutes.
Hi MrWGT,
The first issue seems occurs when you set a picture with the highest available resolution. It does not occurs on my Moto 360 (but seems a bit slower too...). Try to decrease the picture quality in the settings, and re-set your picture.
For the second issue, yeah, I've see ... bad ! I'm trying to solve this issue as soon as possible.
It could be a nice idea to enable/disable the circles. I'll add the option in the next release.
Coming soon too, the possibility to customize the watchface in ambient mode
