Second screen burn-in - Verizon LG V10

Just curious, if I leave the 2nd screen on all the time, should I be worried about burn-in? Currently I have the second screen turned off to save battery but also want to prevent the possibility of burn-in. Not sure if LG has performed any type of pixel shifting etc to prevent burn-in. Is this a problem on an LG display?

I'm pretty sure it's not an issue for LCD screens.

[Q] Can the screen burn in?

My girlfriends' SII recently got her screen burned in,which got me thinking "can this happen to me?" Is it even a problem for us EVO users? I know the screen for the SII wasn't an LCD screen , and I believe the EVO's is. Any answers will be appreciated!
LCD do not burn in, which is what the EVO LTE has.
IPS LCD screens can have what is called image retention or image persistence, which looks like burn in, but it is temporary and goes away if you stop using your device for awhile or flash a bunch of colors quickly on the screen for awhile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_persistence
Amoled screens can have burn in, which is what your girlfriend has. This is why I cannot understand why people want onscreen buttons on phones like the galaxy nexus. I would guess a majority of Galaxy Nexus phones will have their navigation buttons permanently displayed(it is really faint usually) on their phones within a year and it can probably be seen during any full screen activity in which a gray or similar light colored background is shown.
I am not sure if the Super LCD2 used in the EVO LTE is an IPS screen or not(I think it is based on a quick google search and the fact that the colors and blacks look amazing) so I can't tell you for sure if it will have image retention issues, which again, are not permanent anyway.
Thanks! That's exactly what I thought, I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks for clarifying the difference between image retention and screen burn in. I'm fine with it as long as its not permanent.
If you find the image retention lasting a long time, you can run something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel&hl=en
It's meant to detect dead pixels, but by cycling through all the colors, it "erases" the image retention.
Ideally, you can find a video on youtube (there are plenty), just search for monitor calibration or hdtv calibration and then play that video for 5-20 min. (The video should just be rotating full screens of colors like the dead pixel finder)

Bright pixels or something else?

I have noticed several tiny bright spots on the screen of my device but I am not totally sure if they are bright pixels or some other type of screen issue...or if it is even an issue at all. Basically it can only be seen in low light conditions and when the brightness is relatively high. It seems as if it may be stuck pixels but they disappear and reappear depending on the angle that I view the screen. Is this typical behavior of a stuck pixel or could it be some type of issue with the layers above the actual LCD display? And whatever it may be is there a remedy for it?
Hi, you can try to install a custom rom if you're rooted if not the then try to return the phone... there are some ways to play around with the screen res but when it comes to pixel problems you should try returning your phone. I had the same issue with my HTC Amaze 4g long ago and I had to return it.
What is throwing me off is the fact that they can't be seen if you tilt the screen in a certain direction. If they were faulty pixels wouldn't they be visible from pretty much any angle? It's difficult to tell being that the pixels on this display are so tiny.

[Q] Bluish burn-in on my screen

Hello, I own a i9100 and I have some burn-ins at the top of the screen that replicate some buttons of a browser or something, and some burn-ins at the bottom as well. I have read that leaving overnight an app that's constantly switching colours, with full brightness, could help a bit on that. I also read that leaving a blank screen (white image) on the same conditions (overnight, full brightness) would help as well. My question is, how true these both things are? I don't want to end with a bigger problem than the one I currently have. The burn-ins are most viewable at Blue, Red, and Black screen colors.(like if I put a background with one of those colors on it)
Never had any of these on my S2,but from my experience with the galaxy s plus, these tricks won't work.None will to be honest. It's permanent. This shows how immature amoled technology is.Learn to live with it or replace the screen if that bothers you much.
what a sign you got there...
Lucky you. Mine is not THAT noticeable if you're using it normally, but as soon as you open something with a plain color on it, the burn in shows itself on all its glory. So right now you can't tell if leaving the white image all the night or the thing switching colors will damage my screen more?
mwehehe
Well, back then when I tried every method you described above on my i9001,I didn't noticed any improvement nor any further damage.Even after running those for 10h+.So I assume it's safe. Can't say the same for the S2 though, have no problems with it.

Second screen brightness

I've noticed today that my second screen seems to get stuck at a brighter setting when the main screen is off. If I wake up the phone and put it back to sleep it will drop to the low brightness and look normal. I am rooted and on the stock debloted rom. Has anyone else experienced this?
Also another slightly related question, but is the second screen an actual hardware second screen or is it software just using part of a large display? I only ask because when in TWRP it shows everything as one image and I cannot see any line differentiating that there are 2 screens.
There brightness is governed by the light sensor. You might have too much light shining onto it so it gets stuck at the higher setting. It's very sensitive so even moving it a few inches away from a nearby lamp might help.
The second screen is just part of a single LCD panel and it's the software that displays different stuff on it. That's why TWRP looks the way it looks on it.
Is there a way to manually adjust the 2nd screen brightness? At work my 2nd screen is so dim that i can barely even see my notifications, which is the point of the 2nd screen lol.

Any news for adjusting brightness of the second screen? I have bought the V10 on monday and have the same problem with seeing notifications at work...

AOD image retention

Hello,
Never had a phone with Always on feature so I would like to ask if is a normal behavior to see for a few seconds a clock image retention from AOD when the phone is unlocked.
I have LG V30 H930 EU unlocked model.
Been using a H932 with AOD since day one and have never seen any image retention issues from it's use.
It's not very visible, you have to look very closely and perhaps also have some specific colored wallpaper. It lasts only 2-3secs and then slowly disappears. AOD needs to be on a screen for at least 30-60mins I think.

But the AOD constantly moves.
As previously stated, the AOD on the V30 is not a static image, but a dynamic image, (it rotates to several locations on the screen at a certain interval). That should preclude it from issues involving image burn-in or retention.
Having said this, there is an app on the Play Store that Samsung owners use to combat burn-in on their OLED equipped phones. I don't remember what it's called, but you should be able to do a search by topic. The other thing I would recommend is avoiding having the AOD on it's bright setting. Its a bit too much, even in bright daylight, and it does increase the chance of image retention, IMO.
Bright setting is off, but the brightness of AOD at least on my end is dynamic and depends on the light sensor. This "bright setting" to my eyes do almost nothing.
Ok nevermind, probably I'm just nitpicking... I appears to be "visible" only on a pinkish part of the wallpaper. It's one of the default.
I have (what I consider) an annoying slow, fade to black when I turn off the screen. Perhaps your "retention" is the same, slow change of state for the screen?
Maybe we can call it this way. I'm coming from LG G4 IPS screen which is changing such things instantly obviously and I don't know what is "normal" for OLEDs. As i said, clock number from AOD after unlocking has its footprint for a moment on a wallpaper, slowly disappears.
The screen is otherwise pretty good if I cosider some horrible issues reported here or on reddit.
But still apart from this "retention" issue I found 2 more, but basically small issues described here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75657168&postcount=670
so don't know what to do.
I'm still within 14 days return/replace period, but I'm worried about worse screen since this is still a lottery.
Not sure what is your issue. Turning off the screen is doing fine. Just one quick "animation" and everything is off.
