So as many of you noticed, our 360 2nd gen lags like crazy and is not fluid when always on screen is on.
what i've noticed is that it did this a lot when my note 4 was on 5.0.1...but then i downgraded to 4.4.4 kitkat, and it stopped. for like a full week of always on screen, my 360 never lagged when it was on. it was always just as fluid with that nice 60fps animation style.
then i put 5.0.1 back, and bam, lag city. now i just got the 5.1.1 update for it, so i'll see if it lags, but yeah, it's very interesting that the android version was what was causing lag for me anyway.
anyone else's thoughts?
Mine lags regardless.
I am quite disappointed with my moto 360 because of the lag. I chose the 360 over the Gear S2 because of Android wear figuring that there would be more apps and watch faces available for android wear. But now im starting to wish I had gone with the Gear. Next to other smart watches my Moto looks very jerky. Ive seen 1st generation smart watches with a lot less lag. Really hope Moto can fix this soon or I'm gonna sell it and get a Gear
so, mine isn't lagging on always on screen on 5.1.1. it did for like an hour. then after doing theatre mode a few times, it stopped. now it's as smooth as always with always on screen. weird.

dude, I felt the same way last year. last January android wear didn't seem too refined so i went with the gear 2. it was great, but tizen wasn't that smooth either. it worked well though. then I flashed wear to it and liked it a lot so i got the 360. I don't use the gear as much anymore.

Reports like this make me still stay away from the M360 even though I really like how it looks and the basic idea of it.
Seems like Smartwatches are still in kindergarden. Either looking like horrible shoeboxes or are lagging like crazy.
Thought I'd really like the idea of developing a kernel for it and see if it could be improved or not.

there has to be, because it's a problem where it's a power saving mode that's kicked in 100% of the time with always on screen, but turning theatre mode on and off will fix it. for example, i can go forever without lagging with always on screen, but it seems if i disconnect from phone, like i walk away, then come back, and i get a notification, that might send it into that lag mode. then i have to turn theater mode on then off for it to be fine again. it's really weird. certain things trigger it.
Im finding that even doing the theatre mode toggle isn't fixing it now. Gonna have to try a factory reset, really not happy with my m360 2015

It has made a little difference. Tried a factory reset last night and it was still lagging afterwards. I'll see how it goes with moto body disabled. Thanks.

I totally agree with Chap on Reddit. After unistalling MotoBody from the pone and disabling Motobody on watch as well, then rebooting. Watch's behavior is completely different. Now is faster tan before, zero lags and everything work fine.
Thanks Chap
I'm gonna try to disable it and enable google fit.. just sucks you need fit on watch and phone to get heart rate working.. whereas you don't need body on phone for it to work.

wait, how do we completely disable it on watch?

lol nope doesn't work at all. once it goes into ambient mode and comes back, the lag returns. I deactivated body and used fit and within 5 minutes it lagged out like crazy again! oh well, back to moto body.

I don't think that it's a memory leak. It should be a bug in the power saving routine in the kernel, because it totally makes sense to lower the refresh rate on ambient mode. It looks like it sometimes doesn't ramp up the refresh rate again when the screen goes on. We just can hope that it's fixed with the marshmallow ota or we are doomed as Moto (Lenovo) doesn't care.

Changelog from Motorola for incoming update:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/110088/p/2815,9542
Of particular interest under 'Performance Improvements':
"Fix for the 30 fps display issue that occurred when the watch exited the always-on screen mode"
Great find. :good: So they cared and have just not responded with the correct answer: "It will be fixed with an upcoming update". They should work at their communication with their customers
holy crap awesome find! this is great. I'm so glad they finally fixed the bug!

I've had the device a little less than a week and while I love the buid of the device the lags, screen sensitivity issues and freezes are driving me crazy. Are others experiencing the issues? Thus one is definitely going back.
Occasional freeze when trying to unlock the screen. No lag issues though.
Sent from my SGP512 using Tapatalk
The occasional "freeze" when trying to unlock the screen is not a freeze, it's the touchscreen not responding to touches.
Just had it off for a little bit more than a week (holidays and illness) and just hooked it up to a charger and turned it on. Wow, it was unusable. Took me like 20 times to enter my pattern and then the touchscreen was not responding what so ever. This is insane. After 10mins i managed to get to the ota screen to check if there is an update, sadly i'm already on the latest, is there a way to "fix" the touchscreen respond?
Did you already do a factory reset?
If that doesn't help, return it.
I must be lucky, since I don't those touch problems which so many in here seems to experience. That is, except during the very first time I set it up. It was really bad, but never showed since. My guess was/is that some storage/update/cloud initialization had been going on in the background.

I've had various phones which disliked certain USB chargers - if I was charging with those chargers, the screen was unusable.

Thanks, no i did not root it yet, have it quiet new and though i waste watching the free movie offered by sony first before i root it.
Also i figured i'll wait till there is a clean rom out, without the sony stuff. But probably gonna root it over the weekend, to freeze some apps etc. :good:
I'm probably going to return it and wait until the bugs have been fixed or until CyanogenMod picks it up. Super disappointed that Sony just can't seem to get their act together.

I have been struggling with the same decision. I really like the device, but the screen freezes are pissing me off, especially in comparison to my N10, with no screen freezes. After contacting Sony, I used the PC Software Companion to wipe the tablet clean and reset everything, but the tablet performs only marginally better, and I don't even use the Stamina Mode. I really want to wait for Sony to send out a software update to make this device zoom.

Try swiping left and right if your device freezes. With my Z2 (third defect LTE one in a row), this quite often solves the problem for a while.
Switching off the screen for a second, then back on also helps in many situations.

Honestly, what bothers me more than anything is the fact that they couldn't get it working flawless on day 1 considering they took 6 months to release it stateside. Coupled with the fact that this is the wifi version and has zero carrier specific apps that could slow it down, this just leaves me confused and as you said, pissed. CyanogenMod needs to pick this up.
Last night I decided that I was going to send my Z2 back to Sony and request a refund. Any screen freezes on a new device that is as expensive as this was getting to me. This morning I decide to play a few rounds of Dead Trigger 2 on my Nexus 10. I never had a problem with gameplay on the N10, that is until today after being accustomed to my Z10. They're not even close in performance or color saturation. Now, as fare as the speakers are concerned, the N10 is better, hands down.
I guess I can live with the screen issues which really are not that bad. I will be keeping my Z2, at least until the LG G Pad 10.1 is available. Hopefully the freeze issues are fixed soon.

It does require installing the companion app on a computer to do the update, if you haven't received anything OTA.
Do we have any solutions for the verizon g3 for the lag? I just switched from nova back to stock and theres considerable lag. I've waited 1-1.5 seconds for the app drawer to show apps. Also I mean the phone In General isn't the quickest. I know other carriers you can access the hidden menu to turn off thermal throttling but to my understanding we don't have that option.
I wonder what is apparently wrong with some people's G3s.
I am stock Dalvik, unrooted, with all the bloatware installed. I just hit the app drawer button on my home screen for the first time after a restart, while reading this, and the drawer opened fully populated almost instantly, way less than a second.

I know man. I like it with xposed and stuff but I'm waiting for unlock. I've seen worlds of difference from just going to a really well optimized stock Rom. Just did it on my note 10.1. So laggy now it's butter and the battery lasts 2x as long
I am gonna see what the new moto x looks like after its announced thursday. I'm still within my return policy.
I like the phone but many of the factors I bought it for aren't really there...other than the camera being awesome.
I do agree that getting unlock is key. Roms can dramatically change the way a phone is. That's partly why the moto x runs so well, its pretty much stock android.

No lag here on my G3 and I'm coming from a Moto X. I will say though that the X performs everything just as fast the G3, if not slightly faster. But it really is negligible. I think the main reason behind the lag is simply the software. So I think it will only improve. But I think the speed of the phone is just fine. Runs great.
As the G3 heats up internally, and some of them really do that pretty quickly it seems, it's thermal protection coding cuts heavily into it's performance.
Perhaps this is at least partly the cause of the differences people are seeing ?

Are you using a quick circle case by chance? I noticed serious lag while using the circle case. I thought it was xposed, mod themes, etc. I uninstalled, went to stock and have the same issues. I noticed it the most when opening the flap and had the setting to unlock the phone when opening the lid. I shut off quick circle app and it all went away just like that. Massively disappointing and am not sure if it is my case or the app. Can't imagine it would be the case, but will have to find buy a new case to troubleshoot more. Im using an Lg G3 qi/nfc quick circle case.
All the quick circle case is, really, is a small magnet that lines up with one on the mid-right-outside of the front of the phone. You can trigger the sensor in the phone with a little kitchen magnet and the quick circle will activate with no case on the G3 at all.
So, its not the case causing the problem.

Yeah, I guess my point did not come across that well, but I was trying to infer that it was the software. Just not sure if it was the Quickcircle App (which causes lag when 1st opening the lid and registering the home screen) or magnet misalignment.
I bought two Nexus 10 when they were first released and I've scrapped one because the battery failed and a huge screen area went yellow and I was getting multiple annoying random reboots every day.

That's interesting....I have a few mates who have the Nexus 10 and none of them have had those problems. They have had theirs since they were released...Maybe you dropped them once?
You just might be an isolated incident. Another mate if mine has the N7 but the only issue is the charger port issue that many other people have.
I have a N4 and the only issue I have is that the camera stops working at times and to fix that I just restart the phone.

No misuse at all and another annoying bug is the way it deletes part of the pin number after a reboot so you have to re-do the pin number.

I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with both N10s. I would surely have the same frustrations were I you.
We have two N10s, his and hers, for about a year and half. They are used for several hours every day, because we are retired and have lots of time to be online or reading books. My wife's N10 runs Purity ROM and is rock solid for her word games and eBay, facebook, shopping, email and all the other stuff. Mine is rock solid for banking, bill pay, surfing and videos. It usually runs CM11, but could be temporarily running something else while playing around with ROMs. We charge our tablets every day, and try never to get below 50% before plugging in.
I do plan to buy at least one N9 when released, not out of need, but, instead, out of curiosity for an Android 3x4 screen format. Fun times ahead for us Nexus fans.

Don't forget nexus 10 is a two years old tablet but it was a gem in its own time. After 2 years we still don't have any tablets with a higher screen resolution than nexus 10. Which makes it perfect for media consumption. I think only galaxy tab s has a better screen nowadays.
It has had its own shortcommings but most of them are by rectified by software updates, like memory leaks or random reboots.
I have purity ROM on my nexus 10 and I have zero reboots or problems. Everything works like a charm after 2 years of heavy usage. The only thing that I envy now is a super amoled screen on my tablet.

I agree, the Nexus Tablet line was literally one of the biggest POS. I owned a Nexus 7 tablet for about six months and never dropped it or anything. The problem started out with ghosting/ghost input touches then later on progressed to half the touch screen not working at all... Although I initially loved it literally became one the biggest let downs ever...
On top of this, I had also read many articles on XDA and elsewhere of people with the same problem trying to send their tablet's in to ASUS for the warranty and they basically just sent the tablets back to them as is with a software upgrade, which didn't help at all since it was a hardware problem.

Mine had worked flawlessly since the week it was released.
I got mine when they released the tablet and I've never had one problem with it.
I got mine first month of release and it was great for about a year. It's still good now but my siblings abused it so now the battery drains quick (used to last all day and some of the next now I'm lucky if it reaches the end of the day) and speakers are chipping paint.
Other than that there no issues though and those are pretty much our fault. The battery problem could be from not using official charger or just charging all night

I bought my shortly after release and have not experienced any problems with it. I have almost exclusively been using the Franco kernel with AOKP. I use it every day in place of my laptop. I can watch movies, youtube, internet, social media, etc. all day on a single charge.
I bought mine around feb/mar 2013.
It's a piece of crap.
Yellow/brownish tint on the screen that is getting bigger as we speak, battery shutdown at 30% (workarounds exist!), overheating, slow response, slow R/W speeds, etc. I have to do a factory reset pretty much every month.
On top of that: Gergle being a b*tch about it because they've deactivated my account (inactivity). Really funny guys.
I don't know what to do.
I guess I'll throw it away, as soon as I have something new. I'll never buy anything touched by Samsung again. No phone, tablet, TV, you name it. The only thing they're good as is NAND.

The problem is: I force the system NOT to shutdown. The battery stays at 0%, but the device keeps running.
This is dangerous. When the CPU ramps up and the voltage is too low it'll cause instability, which you can see by the backlight flickering, the speakers making weird noises, all that bad stuff.
I am not sure how this affects the battery (or the device) physically, since Li-Ion is not very happy when it's "too" discharged. But it'll wear out the battery even faster, I fear. (This is unfunded. I have not enough knowledge about electronics that advanced. But I've read it somewhere. :silly
But, that out of the way: There's an xposed module. I DO NOT recommend using it. It's called DisableCriticalBatteryShutdown, by the user zst123.
You WILL run into fc's of the systemui when plugging the device back in. But the process should restart by itself.
There's a thread on XDA. AGAIN, I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS MODULE.
I got my Nexus 10 shortly after they were released, and though I love it because it's screen is gorgeous and it has front-facing speakers, it is really buggy, and has been since day one.
It freezes and restarts on me probably daily, and always has since it was brand new. In the early days it always happened while using Chrome, and at the time I remember reading that it was a Chrome-specific issue, so I just switched to Firefox in hopes of a better experience.
It was better, for the most part, but eventually it started freezing at other times as well. I still like the tablet, but it definitely has never been a great performer.
I got my Nexus 10 at release, after 1.5 months of Google not shipping it, losing it, telling me that it was coming, etc... Worst customer experience I ever had. I was on the phone with them daily.
When I finally got it it worked fine for a little while but as I put more and more on it and actually tried to use it to stream video, I would get random reboots, freezing, etc...
I've tried relentlessly to talk my wife into letting me unlock it and put a custom ROM on it hoping it would fix things but she would never let me. Now that it's almost two years old, and I barely use it do to all the reboots, etc..., she might finally let me unlock it.
I was really looking forward to getting this tablet when they announced it but with all the problems, for me it pretty much became a $500 paperweight. I use my GS4 so much more than I every used this tablet, even when I'm home.

I have 2 Nex10's. Both bought at launch. One is stable as a rock (thank god it's the wife's or else) but mine is a bit of a dud. Instabilities and crashes since day one.
Not a day goes by that I don't have to do the 3 finger salute to restart because it has frozen solid.
Tried factory resetting, flashed factory images whenever a new one was around and tried different kernels. No change whatsoever.
I believe Samsung's soc is the culprit here, which was also the issue with the chrome chrashes in the early days (GPU drivers that fixed the issue where delayed by Samsung, which was silly as it's a stock Mali GPU).
Never mind the USB connectivity issues that only Samsung devices do. I had no problem connecting any of my other tablets and phones (Nexus 7, 4, 5, Xperia Z, various HTCs, even Nokia Lumias) to my PC. The Nex10? No dice. I had to manually remove any and all USB drivers, do 3 rain dances and pray to the lord of shadows before I got it to work.
Hey everyone,
How is the vibration strength for notifications on the new Moto 360?
I've got an Huawei Watch and I love it, but the vibration strength is pretty weak IMO. A lot of times, I hear the vibration rather than feel it.
If it's stronger on the new Moto360, I may switch.
Thanks!

Hello there,
I got mine yesterday, I am loving so far. The vibration was one of my worries, and I am glad to say it is ok, not great but ok. I have not tried the Huawei but I have heard the exact same comments over and over that you could actually hear it but not feel the vibration. I can assure you that this is not the case with the new Moto 360. I have tried deferent notifications, and I clearly felt them with a subtle noise, I have tried it in my pocket as well and felt them too!
it would have been nice if you can control the intensity, but may be for the next update.
Thanks.

Thanks for the answer - I had been wondering about this too. Can you also comment on the mic sensitivity - how close do you have to hold it to your mouth for it to pick you up? Does it consistently pick you up correctly? I'm trying to decide between the Moto 360 42mm and the Huawei and have heard that the Huawei mic is a bit hit and miss. For example, Lisa from MobileTechReview had difficulty getting it to pick her up in her review - see it here: https://youtu.be/H_ISBzY96M0?t=5m43s
EDIT: Also curious how long charging from empty or almost empty to 100% takes on the wireless charger.

From my initial test yesterday, it is indeed a hit or miss. I had to repeat couple of times to get it right. It was always confusing breath with Breeze or What's up with Whatsapp where I was trying to send a whatsapp message with voice command. But honestly that was within my expectation, especially with 'tricky' words or commands.
I will do another test tonight and see, I will also check wither I have to hold it closely to my mouth, it was natural to get it closer every time I used it!

Will test that too. The watch had around 70% when I opened it. it took a while to fully charge but it was going through the initial setup.

It took almost 2 hours to charge from dead to 100%! way much more than expected. The good news is that it charged almost 50% in the 1st half hour. Anyway, i will be charging it overnight from now on, so its no biggy.
i currently have both watches and the moto vibrator is stronger. and i keep my watches relatively tight so they dont slide around and the huawei is definitely weaker. i can see how people who keep it loose may not feel it.

Thanks - is there any way to turn off the display, or the entire watch, while charging? Just thinking this might speed up the process, and reduce heat build-up. I seem to remember reading that there is a setting in the developer options in Android Wear for this.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm still on the fence on this one because I really like the Huawei. I'm going to go to Best Buy and check out the Moto in person.

Check out the thread next door: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-360-2015/general/360-t3220206
I'm in the same position as you, but I don't have anywhere local to go and see these watches. I had actually settled on the Huawei and made my decision, but with reading over the past few days, watching video reviews and asking some questions on forums I've now swung in completely the opposite direction and am back to buying a Moto 360 42mm again!
I decided to stick with the Huawei. I just like the look of it better especially the ambient screen. My issue was small and really hasn't proven to be a big deal. Thanks again everyone for your feedback!

I was curious about the vibration strength as well.. I think my V20 has a weaker vibration motor so I seem to miss a lot of SMS messages and calls... my hope was if I get a watch, i'll be able to easily feel the vibration on my wrist... I read a few people saying the vibration was weak.. but seems to be on here most say its decent. Thanks!
Hi there,
I've had my Zenwatch 2 (WI501Q) for a couple of weeks now and everything was fine, but a couple of days ago my phone (Nexus 5, latest stock android) bricked, so I had to factory reset. I had to also factory reset the watch to get it to pair with my phone again. After doing this, the watch now has an annoying quirk, in that when it goes to ambient/always on mode, there is a weird screen/colour pop after about a second. It will first drop to ambient and then the whole screen will pulse/blink (sometimes there will be a horizontal line across the whole screen too) and then it will settle back to ambient mode, however the ambient it finally settles on has slightly less definition (jaggier lines) and any colours are slightly less vibrant than the ambient it goes to before the pop.
I've also just noticed that when it wakes it goes in reverse, there is less of a noticable pop, but the colours get better and there is slightly more definition for 1/2-1 second before it fully wakes up.
The more jagged lines/less vibrant colour aren't a problem really, it's more the 'pop', just thought i'd give as much detail as possible. Phone is on 5.1.1, wear is 1.3.0.2442001. I have tried an additional factory reset on the watch, but the problem persists.
Any one have a similar issue?
Thanks.
I'm not noticing that on my watch. You might want to factory reset your watch and see if the problem persists.
Yes, I am having the same problem -- very annoying. It started from when I first set it up, I have already factory reset it once but it didn't help. Unfortunately, where I live customer service is poor and I'm afraid that the store where I bought it will just say that is the way it is meant to work and refuse to replace it.
Annoying that it's happening to others (but i guess good to know it's not just me). I'll have a go at Asus support and see what they say.

Please let us know what they say. I'm not looking forward to sending mine in for servicing as it could take well over a month to get any results.
Could it be related to the watch face you're using? I've not seen this with the couple of watch faces I've tried.
I stumbled across this thread yesterday and thought nothing of it. Then last night I installed Apollo Launcher and noticed this happening on my Zenwatch 2. To my knowledge, this was not happening before that and now that I have seen it, it cannot be unseen and its bothering me. I tried uninstalling Apollo Launcher and restarting the watch but neither solved the issue. It also persists through different watch faces. I have tried the ASUS built in faces and faces from Watchmaker.

It bothered me so much that in the end I returned the watch and got a LG Urbane instead (even though it cost more) -- I'm glad I did though as the screen is perfect so far and the watch is great in general.

I don't know if it bothers me that much. I specifically bought this watch because it is my first smart watch and I liked the features for the entry level price point. I did a full wipe through recovery last night and that didn't fix it. For now I've just started using a watch face that its less noticeable on. My current face only shows the hour and minute hands in ambient so it just dims and switches to displaying just the hands and then a split second later, brightens slightly and switches to the low rez ambient mode. I haven't noticed the horizontal line as much, but it does still happen occasionally.
I logged it with ASUS and this was their reply:
Thank you for contacting Asus technical support, my name in Ana and I’m happy to assist you regarding the issues you have with our device.
Concerning your problem because you already tried the factory reset and the situation did not change I’m afraid it might be a hardware issue.
Asus as the manufacturer doesn’t offer repair for accessories due to our company’s policy but because you recently purchased it I kindly recommend you return it to the retailer to get a refund /replacement (depending on their return policy).
Best regards

That feels like a bit of a cop out.
I sent another reply saying that it has been happening to other people and pointed them to this thread.
I have the opposite problem.
When it goes into ambient mode it first dims down too much, then quickly pops back to the normal ambient mode.
So kind of actual answer:
Dear user,
This is normal situation for ZenWatch 1 LCA43 version. It use to protect panel from burn out. And we will improve this on next system firmware update.(Not ZenWatch Manager update.)
Thank you for your feedback.

Although, I've only just noticed that they are referring to the ZenWatch 1...
I'll reply again to make sure they know it's happing with the ZenWatch 2.
Great, I didn't even notice it before and now I do. However, it definitely doesn't bug me. I still like the watch.
